In April of 2020, I adopted a little black cat. After about a week at home I noticed blood in his urine. I immediately took him to the vet and from there it was a whirlwind of different Vets, Specialists, Urinalysis, Urine Cultures, Bloodwork, Ultrasound imaging of bladder and kidneys, antibiotics, cat water fountains, Feliway pheromones, and finally surgery. A year, and thousands of dollars later, my cat was still presenting with bloody urine and I didn't know what else to do. I live in Point Loma, which is about 45 minutes away from North County Cat Hospital, but I took a chance and called to see if they were able to see my cat. Brandy was patient and kind while I desperately rattled off everything that my cat had been through and she was able to squeeze us in for a same-day appt. It's COVID times, so I was not able to go inside with my cat, or meet Dr. Daly in-person, but he kept me updated and spoke for a lengthy amount of time on the phone with me about options. He recommended an oral medication that I had never heard of, which I admit I was skeptical of since surgery, antibiotics, prednisone, and everything else other vets had suggested hadn't worked, but I had nothing to lose so I went ahead and ordered it for my cat. After an entire year of bloody urine, I am thrilled to report that my cat's urine has not shown even a drop of blood since starting the medication. I can't even begin to explain the amount of gratitude and relief I feel towards Dr. Daly and his kind staff!! I recommend Dr. Daly to every single person I know that has a cat and I wish I would have gone to North County Cat Hospital from the start. Me and my Cat could not be more thankful! read more

This says "No Co. Cat HOSPITAL" I walked in my home to find my 19 yr old cats face/cheek considerably swollen, & holding himself I knew, in a lot of pain. I scooped him up & my hubby & I drove straight to this place a few miles from our home, but never been here. We walked into a dead empty waiting room, some gal on her phone behind the desk, said "we don't take walk-ins!!! What??? Are you kidding me?? It says HOSPITAL. So even tho the place was dead, & my cat is in urgent need of care, NOPE!! Go make an appt which would've been for a different day. This is not something that could wait. Used to be just an amazing practice. Dr Daley is amazing and the staff is as well. Understandably Dr Daley has reduced his schedule and brought in a new vet for exams. Dr Amy I found to not listen to my concerns and experience dealing with an on going chronic issue with my cat. When I disagreed to repeating costly tests I was met with a condescending attitude. When explaining to her why she stated to me "well I dont know we are just spitballing here"-not with my cats health, our time and my money. Dr. Daley is so great and has helped so much over the years. A great person and a great vet. Unfortunately that is not continuing with this new vet. Just wanted to share my experience with North County Cat Hospital. Brought in our cat Spot for a horrible rash/infection she got on her head from scratching which led to also a small hematoma in her ear. Brought her in an immediately received amazing care(steroids, antibiotics, + ear infection medicine) and next day results were a miracle, with a couple days more being completely cleared of the rash plus hematoma. First vet we've been to where we did not feel taken advantage of spending wise and felt genuinely that they cared about spot! Would recommend this place again and again and will be returning for normal care + anything cause they are truly amazing. read more

I will keep this short and simple. Not here to bash but I am here to enlighten you with my experience. I brought my cat zeus here as a new patient because he was eating fine but was losing weight. The staff was nice and identified a lump on his thyroid that could be causing the weight loss. They ran some tests and set me up with medicine to correct it. They also recommended that we get his teeth cleaned and that he would need mandatory 4 teeth removed and most likely more once they have a better look. The quote for that was $1899.29 plus however many extra teeth they decide to pull. I don't particularly like open ended bills and because of the amount of teeth they said needed to go, I decided to get a second opinion. I took Zeus to Banfield Pet Hospital and talked to Dr. Rydell to confirm what north county cat hospital had said. Turns out the diagnosis for the thyroid was correct and the diagnosis for the teeth was incorrect. Zeus only needed a normal teeth cleaning and one tooth pulled instead of potentially 6. Regardless of the procedure costing much less, my cat got to keep most of his teeth and is doing great. I do not recommend North County Cat Hospital. read more

We have come to this cat hospital at least three times now and every experience was excellent. The vet and technicians know cats and love cats. Today we got to come in face-to-face with masks on and I got to meet Dr. Cody, who was Kind and very down to earth about pricing and things to do to help my cat stop peeing around the house. I very much recommend this business as I have tried other veterinarians around the Oceanside area and did not like them as much. Thanks to Dr. Daly my cat is five years younger! Three other vets told me not to worry about my cat's broken tooth. They said that it looked fine and we could deal with it if it caused a problem. Dr. Daly told me that the tooth should get a root canal or be extracted and he was right! He extracted the tooth and now my precious baby is purring and playing like she hasn't done in years. This Doctor is doing things right. I just moved here from the east coast and one of my cats was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism before we moved. Due to the stress and difficulty of a cross country move I decided to get her rechecked and medicated as soon as we got here. With her having a previous issue finding the RIGHT vet was the utmost importance to me. I looked on yelp.com and checked websites for a cat only facility. I decided on North County because of the reviews and I am glad I chose them!! I called and was able to make an appointment same day. The receptionist was extremely professional and even asked me for my cat's previous vet's number so they could have her records before I arrived. ( I was going to give it, but they beat me to the punch!) I arrived a few minutes early. The office is in a outdoor strip mall type area, but the cat office seemed nice and easy to see. I walked in and settled in knowing there would be new patient forms to fill out. The sitting area is nice and quiet. A new (looking) paint job with a silhouette kitty over one door frame. Calm colors and clean looking. The receptionist was as nice and professional in person as on the phone. She knew my cats name based on the appointment time and was prompt and thorough with the entrance questions and the forms. When that was complete she took us to the exam room. The exam room is just the door to the right when you walk in, simple and small. All the instruments and thermometer were laid out and clean in appearance, and the computer was there with information on the screensaver about things regarding cats and cat health. (who knew lilies are poisonous for cats? Me now!) All the records seem to be electronic, which I appreciate when seeing my own doctor, so I appreciated it from them as well. Less chance they will miss something for a follow up or future exam. The Doctor was great, his bedside manners were great, obviously a cat lover. He was very gentle but also as firm as he needed to be. Pixie's physical exam was thorough. He took the time to feel her stomach and throat. He checked her teeth with a pick, looked in her eyes and ears - even stretched out her front legs and checked her paws and claws. We discussed her hyperthyroidism for a while, he was making sure I had the correct information. He went through our options slowly and answered any and all questions. We went over all the tests he could run etc, but since she had had her blood work done so recently and it was definitive proof of her disorder he said he did not require another blood test or urine analysis until after she had been on medication for a few weeks. With that the conclusion is- He didn't overcharge me or order anything that wasn't needed. (hardly can say that about vets, I was impressed.) It wasn't a lack of care but consideration for my wallet and unneeded stress on my kitty. In the end the checkout was painless and everyone was very helpful and friendly. I will be returning!!!! North County Cat Hospital is one of the most compassionate places I have ever taken my fur babies to receive care. Their staff is professional, but also incredibly empathetic when it comes to the humans that are dealing with serious injury, illness, or the imminent loss of a beloved furry friend. It has taken me months to post this review, because it's still hard to talk about, but I thought I needed to let people know why this has and always will be the place I take my fur babies to get their treatment. They don't treat their patients like your pet...they treat them like they're your family - with courtesy and dignity. During Spring Break, my son's best friend and companion/therapy kitty began to show some alarming signs. He had been on soft food for months, and though he was still eating and drinking, he was walking with a hobble and seemed to do nothing but sleep, wander to another area, and sleep more. He was struggling to use the litter box consistently, and seemed to be getting confused - shaky...he was deteriorating, and we knew he needed to be seen. I had planned to make an appointment for later in the week, but we woke one morning to find that his legs were completely giving out on him and he had become unable to walk more than a few steps. He had spent the night sleeping in bed with my son (which he hadn't done in months), and we were immediately worried that something bad was happening to him. I called North County Cat Hospital, and they told us to bring him in immediately. By the time we got him there, the doctor (a very kind, but practical vet), told us that we could try expensive and time consuming treatments, but that he had personally never seen a cat in that condition and age (our sweet little friend was 16 years old, we rescued him when he was a kitten from an abusive home) come back from the state he was in. He informed us that he had less than a 5% chance of surviving (and how long afterward couldn't be guaranteed either), even if we opted to try and keep him alive, and additionally, let us know that he was struggling to stay alive...and he was in pain. My son made the call to euthanize his friend. I couldn't do it, and it wouldn't have been my place to, either way. Instead, I knelt next to him and thanked him for being such a sweet friend and loyal companion, and told him how grateful I was that he came into our lives. Then I moved back and let my son talk to him. He put his face against his, like they always did, and he stared into his eyes. My son is autistic, and doesn't often make eye contact... certainly not like that. He whispered to him for a few minutes, then stayed there with his forehead placed against his friend's and eyes never leaving his, while the doctor administered the medications. He didn't remove himself until after the doctor declared that his heart and brain had stopped all activity. The staff let us take some time to compose ourselves before leaving the room, and were supportive throughout the process of making the payment and choosing the method for his remains to be cared for. They were patient and answered all of our questions. The staff seemed almost as sad as we were to lose our friend. He had been their patient for a number of years. We had him cremated (there was an option to have him cremated by himself and the ashes placed in a tiny cedar box with a name tag). They also took an imprint of his foot in clay, and had us come back in a few days to pick him up. It was one of the hardest things I've ever watched my son have to go through, and since he was an adult, I thought he handled it with maturity. He didn't want his friend to suffer after having given so much love to us all for so long. He cared more about his friend than his own pain. That's a good friend... A few weeks later, we received a bereavement card in the mail from North County Cat Hospital. They didn't have to send a card, but they did, and it was signed by the entire staff, including the veterinarian. That personal touch was the final act of compassion that they showed our family in the wake of losing our beloved friend...and the thoughtfulness of the entire staff shows just how much they care about their patients and the humans who love them. North County Cat Hospital is the only place I will ever bring my fur babies to receive care. They've shown they understand the difference between "just a pet" and "part of the family." read more

She does well for a bit then goes through another cycle of low energy, lack of appitite, and constipation. Dr. Dally and his staff have been so informative and incredialy compassinate. As we all know, its difficult to watch our beloved pets struggle. Mystic is now on a regimen of pottasium, Meralax, and an anther cycle of antibiotics. Since I dont drive due to a visin impairment, they have sent Mystic's meds through the mail. I cant begin to express my gratitude to there AMAZING patient loving individuals! I first brought my cat to VCA in Oceanside and they wanted me to spend over $1,000 right away and take my cat into surgery (extreme). I opted for a 2nd opinion after putting him on antibiotics and pain meds. I called around various vets and finally spoke to Brandy at NC Cat Hospital. She was helpful. She listened. She wasn't rude nor did she rush me off the phone. I decided to take my baby there and the Dr. and staff were awesome. They were least concerned on getting $$ or upping the cost. My kitty did NOT need to be sedated or put under. They took the ingrown nail out and I'm sitting here with my cat who is feeling SO much better. Bottom line, I don't trust many vets and now I won't go anywhere else!! read more

I had taken my cat to NCCH several times since I moved to Oceanside. Everyone on staff, and the doctors always took very good care of my cat. When I returned from a trip on a Friday, I come to find out that Dooey minimally ate, moved his bowels once and urinated twice in a week. Typically when I return from a trip, Dooey will start eating again. By Sunday he still was not eating (not even the appetite enhancer was working) so I knew something was wrong. I didn't want to wait till Monday so I brought him to an emergency hospital (VEG in Encinitas) to see what was wrong. They ran various tests and couldn't find anything. Dr. Cain at VEG was excellent in explaining everything and made a few suggestions. One of them being an ultrasound in the abdomen to see if there was an obstruction. By this time NCCH was open, and Dr. Coty was very kind in reviewing all of the lab work and agreed the recommended treatment was correct. Nothing was found other than a very slight possibility of cancer. Given that Dooey was almost 18 years old and I had him all his life having rescued him, my thought was to at least make him comfortable and feed him through a tube to give him nourishment, since he lost weight. Upon inserting the tube, Dr. Cain saw fluid around Dooey's lungs, which indicated cancer. At that point I decided to do the humane thing and put him down so he wouldn't suffer anymore. Having put two other furry animals down and even though it was heartbreaking, I knew it was the right thing to do. He lived a very long happy life. I loved him dearly and we were each other's support companion. This review is for both establishments. I would like to thank everyone involved as they showed compassion, care, love and empathy. I totally appreciated everything. everyone did at both places. I received Sweet Dooey's paw print in clay and ink print from VEG and a sympathy card from North County Cat Hospital. I absolutely love Dr. Daly and his staff. I've been taking my cats to him for nearly 5 years and have had a hard time finding care that compares to his. He is always kind, understanding, patient and knowledgeable. Even though I unfortunately live too far away to take my cat to him now, he is still willing to talk to me for a couple minutes about health issues when they come up. We have had many vets over the years, some great and others not so much. Recently, the practice of veterinary medicine seems to have become less and less caring. The North County Cat Hospital came to us late in the life of our last kitty. We feel so fortunate to have had their kindness and expertise at such a difficult time. We had forgotten what it was like to have a veterinarian and staff who were genuinely involved vs. a consortium moving animals quickly through the process. The people of North County Cat Hospital have cats, love cats and have lost cats. Our kitty was old with many problems. They helped us deal with all that entails; readily available, very communicative and so kind and caring. It was a difficult time but made much easier through their efforts. I had a nice little review planned to tell everyone how great Dr. Daly is and what North County Cat Hospital has done for my little babies but then I saw the most recent review by Stephanie S and I am LIVID! I actually remember seeing that cat! I know because Dr. Daly doesn't usually groom cats. When one of my cats needed a lion's cut, he recommended a groomer. It was about three weeks ago when I saw the poor little cat and it is stuck in my head.I remember thinking that someone should call the police and have the person who is supposed to love and care for this cat arrested for animal abuse. The poor cat was one big clump of hair. Seriously, it was bad. Like what you would see on Animal Planet. If you have ever seen a mat on a long haired cat, think of that covering the whole body. A cat trapped in a shell of fur. It was awful. That kind of thing doesn't happen over night and Stephanie S should be ashamed. She should be ashamed for neglecting her cat and she should be ashamed for blaming Dr. Daly and North County Cat Hospital for her cat's death. That people like this are allowed to have cats is unthinkable and I can only pray that she doesn't have any other pets.I am seriously thinking of calling the police to investigate. read more

Until I met my girlfriend's cats, I was always a dog person. I never knew how cool cats are and I never ever thought to go into a cat only vet hospital. I didn't think that they would be my kind of people. I found out, though that they are also very cool. Dr. Daley is surprising. When I came to pick up the cat, I mentioned to him the mysterious disease that my mom's dog has and he told me what the disease was. How does a cat vet know more about a dog that lives 150 miles away than the dog's vet knows? I told Dr. Daley the signs and he instantly diagnosed the disease. Done. He told me to have my mom take the dog to a specialist and they confirmed everything that he said. My mom had gone to three vets who had no clue what was going on and then my girlfriend's cat's vet diagnoses the dog within seconds without ever seeing him! read more

No one likes getting sick (hypochondriacs aside) because it's a pain in the butt to have to take medication, getting back to feeling normal and --of course-- visit the doctors office. Often, we're able to sack up and avoid the visit altogether. We're fortunate that way. Our animals, on the other hand, aren't. Thankfully, North County Cat Hospital is around to take the sting out of the never-fun veterinary visit. We've been utilizing Dr. Daly's services for nearly four years now and aside from the high cost of getting the animals better--completely out of the doc's control mind you--we haven't a negative thing to say. His staff is stellar and treats all of our four-legged kids with care and respect. Daly himself is a supremely thoughtful person, taking into consideration all aspects of pet ownership (reality, emotions, household economic situations) and a genuinely friendly individual to boot. As this is a transitional area of San Diego county for our armed forces members, I highly recommend this little hospital nestled between a dry cleaner and a sports bar. You won't regret it. I've been a cat person my whole life, and I've had more than 20+ cats in my life time. I've treated every single one of them as my child. I've come across many, many vets, some are better than others, and in my experience, cat specialty vets are better than general vets. But I haven't come across a doctor as involved, dedicated, knowledgeable, patient, and just caring overall. Dr. Daly makes me feel like my cats are in such good hands. Desperately seeking a same day appt for our cat this morning as she had mucus coming out her nose & discharge out her eyes due to a possible URI. After sitting in the bathroom w/her while it steamed up to help clear her congestion, I started googling various vets. None were available - including out vet who is out until 18th & possible appt w/colleague next week - I decided to give NCCH a call. Because it was before they opened, while waiting, I decided to fill out forms online just in case they could see her today or even just this week. Very thorough questions and detailed explanation as to why they ask so many questions. Matter-of-fact, they cover pretty much everything with explanation on their website. It's a bit overwhelming but I appreciated the thoroughness of every detail as I am detailed the same way. Once opened I called, the person that answered was very nice. I explained her symptoms and she was able to get me in today an hour and a half later. Got to the Hospital, followed their covid guidelines of calling in first, super easy. Receptionist, again really pleasant, explained she was passing me to the doctor's tech/assistant to get more info. She was super sweet, very thorough in her questions, listened and didn't rush me, and then met me at the door for the kitty handoff. Waited for about 20m when Dr. Cody called. She was super sweet, had the breakdown of our Kitties history - stray to domesticated - which shows the tech/assistant took excellent notes & listened - Dr. Cody explains her findings, was very detailed, took time to listen to my questions or my rambling I'm sure, asked me multiple times if I had any questions for her and never rushed me. She didn't upsell me on unnecessary additional work, on the contrary, she kept it to a minimal. Even told me she needed her glands emptied, something her normal vet hadn't mentioned. I requested she microchip our girl, which she did, and we would follow up in a week or so once done w/meds & would get her vaccinations. I felt very comfortable w/Dr.Cody & the staff and their professionalism as well as their sweet personalities. The receptionist even took a few minutes to chat w me outside the door about our girl and how good she was and how sweet she is. I was sure the bill was going to be high being it's a cat only hospital, urgent appt, full exam w/antibiotics, gland expressing and microchip but I was shocked to find that it was not. It wasn't even $200. My last vet appt was $30 less and half the work done. I am absolutely pleased and will continue with NCCH for all our girls medical needs. We are very picky about the Vet's we choose for our animals - 2 GSD's - as we have walked away from a few & now drive to PB for our dogs, so for me to leave here as pleased as I am says a lot. We now have two Savannah kittens, a breed not all vets know very much about, so it's even more important to go to a vet that specializes in cats. I had an experience at North County Cat Hospital in some ways similar to Pat S. (another reviewer). One of my cats, Homer, would always run around after visiting the litter box. My old vets laughed it off with me, thinking it was odd but not a problem. After Dr. Daly examined Homer, he asked me if Homer ever ran around after visiting the litter box. I was in shock. I hadn't said anything about it and he hadn't asked me if my other cat, Houser, ever ran around like that. Long story short, Homer was running around because he had a medical condition - I won't go into details - and Dr. Daly discovered it. I think that several other vets had missed it, even after I had asked at least two of them about the running around. We treated the "issue" and Homer has been vastly better ever since. He's been more active and playful and the only time he runs around any more is when he's playing with Houser. read more

We have a vet office a mere 5 minutes from our home. But we are willing to drive the extra 20 minutes as the cats wail in protest throughout the drive. Why do we do this? We like that this office does not push product for added profit. We like that Dr. Daley is very patient, relaxed, honest and professional. We like that Dr. Daley has a competent, kind, and compassionate support staff. We like seeing the assistants willing to come to our aid in getting the cats out of the car and into the exam room. The office is sparkling clean. The atmosphere is so calm (no dogs). We left the office feeling that our kitty kids got a thorough annual exam. I brought my 15yr old cat "Bernie" to the NC Cat Hospital and since she was a new patient I agreed to have the Dr. give a full exam when she only needed a simple shot for her skin allergy. After the blood work and unnecessary urine work up and $550 and some change later I was told Bernie was in stage one kidney failure and needed to have two teeth extracted. I expect some health issues to arise since she's 15 but after taking her back to my old vet lets just say, the teeth needed to be pulled and she's no where near kidney failure. After the cat hospital visit she was barely eating, wouldn't even eat wet food! The estimate I received for the teeth to be extracted was thru the roof, OVER $800!!! After speakng with my old vet I made the 50 minute car ride I had the teeth taken care of and she's a happy camper. I will say that the staff at the cat hospital was very helpful and pleasant. Their prices leave a lot to be desired, so if you do choose them to care for your cat, bring a boat load of $$$$$ you're going to need it! read more

I came here with my geriatric cat for a pill to help him stop scratching his ringworm. $400 later, my cat was so distressed by the doctor's 'examination' that he had to be sedated. I received no treatment for the ringworm, and instead was charged for an extremely expensive blood test and urinology assessment. Both tests came back perfectly okay. I was really pissed when I paid that bill. I came there for one reason, and got overcharged for some tests I was pressured into doing. I felt like the doctor was suggesting if I didnt get the tests, that I wasn't a caring owner. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone that isn't a trust fund baby or a millionaire. The only positive thing I can say is that he didn't berate me for using the raw feeding method on my cats. read more

We are new to this vet practice and so far are very happy. The Dr. took lots of time examining both of our cats and discussing treatment options and nutrition advice. One of our cats required extensive teeth removal (6) and the surgery went perfectly. The vet tech anesthesiologist explained exactly how every step of the procedure would go. We could not believe how quickly she was back to her happy, playful self! This is not a discount provider by any means, but we appreciate such high quality, individualized care from a small office. My only complaint would be the limited office hours that are very tough for us 9 to 5ers. read more

I am a former grade school teacher and it occurs to me that Dr. Daly would have made a wonderful teacher. He is a patient, kind, caring and gentle man. He is very good at explaining things and has taught me a lot about cats, even though I have had animals my entire life. His staff is always friendly and helpful. I feel very fortunate to have this lovely veterinary clinic nearby to take care of my cats' medical needs. read more

When they initially opened, I was happy, geographically close. I quickly determined their charges were way above my ability to pay, and I continued to drive to my favorite Vet, Dorota Pearson in San Marcos. Recently I had occasion to go to the Cat Hospital with two cats. The care was OK, but if all suggestions followed far too expensive. I had to give one cat anti-biotics and was using a "Pill Pocket." I knew the cost at a feed store, but was told I could buy them at the Cat Hospital. While there I found the cost twice that of the feed store. That much IMHO reflects something I will not support. I will again drive to San Marcos, where the pet and pet owner have value. Teresa Masters. read more

I can't believe I haven't written this update yet. Not long after my last review, I was put in a position to be able to rescue a "death row" cat. Snow was going to be put to sleep in a shelter because his person had become homeless and because Snow was diabetic. He had about 8 hours left before he was pulled to come home to our family. Long story short, I became Snow's caretaker with a lot of help from a non-profit that looks out for diabetic cats, and I was in need of learning how to be the caretaker to a diabetic cat. Here again, Dr. Daly and staff just rocked it. My husband and I learned what we needed to do, and everyone at NCCH has been amazing at the follow up we regularly receive. (I do need to give kudos here to Snow, who is the most chill cat ever to go to a vet - and they can back me up - his routine during exams is to stroll over to the weigh in basket, climb in, and fall asleep.) We've had nothing but excellent care for Snow since he joined our family in 2012 - including some extensive dental surgery that has seen his quality of life vastly improve. Snow is now 17, and he's off insulin (though his BG is tested regularly). Part of the reason for this is the extensive information I have received from NCCH about the dietary needs of diabetic cats. read more

A good vet but the cost of seeing him is more like visiting a cat-only boutique in Beverly Hills than a strip mall on the outskirts of Oceanside. Bring a suitcase of cash and plenty of plastic. read more
