Stop #1: Island in the Sky Visitor Center Started the day with incredible views overlooking the famous Shafer Trail, with its dramatic switchbacks winding down the canyon walls. It's an amazing introduction to the park's vast landscape. Stop #2: Aztec Butte A short hike led us to ancient Puebloan granaries tucked into the sandstone cliffs. Standing where people lived and stored food hundreds of years ago adds a whole new layer to the scenery. Stop #3: Upheaval Dome One of Canyonlands' biggest mysteries! Scientists still debate whether this enormous crater-like formation was created by a meteorite impact or the collapse of an underground salt dome. Whatever its origin, it's a fascinating place to explore. Canyonlands is massive, rugged, and absolutely unforgettable. Every overlook makes you feel tiny in the best possible way.

I…read morehave a personal rule: I only count a national park as "visited" if I actually spend time there, hike or walk through it, and truly experience it. On this trip, we visited 14 national parks, and Canyonlands National Park was another fascinating stop in our Utah adventure. Canyonlands is a park of enormous scale. It is hard to truly understand the size of this landscape until you are standing at the viewpoints looking out over endless canyons, mesas, and cliffs carved by the Colorado and Green Rivers over millions of years. The views are dramatic and humbling. Located close to Moab, Canyonlands has a very different atmosphere from some of the quieter parks we visited. Moab itself is like an outdoor playground, especially for people who love off-road adventures, mountain biking, dirt bikes, four-wheel drives, and exploring the backcountry. That energy definitely carries into the park. Of all the parks we visited on this trip, Canyonlands was probably the busiest and, personally, not one of my favorites. That does not mean it was not beautiful. It absolutely was. It just has a different feeling. Much of Canyonlands is experienced from above, looking down into the incredible maze of canyons below. Getting into the deeper parts of the canyon system requires more time, preparation, and often specialized equipment, especially if you want to explore beyond the main viewpoints. Since we only had two days, we focused on hiking and exploring the more accessible areas. I enjoyed several beautiful trails, including the hike to Mesa Arch, one of the park's most iconic viewpoints. Seeing the arch framing the vast canyon landscape beyond it was spectacular. We also explored other overlooks and trails where the views seemed to go on forever. One challenge for us was accessibility. My husband has mobility limitations, and Canyonlands does not offer as many easy, accessible trails or paved perimeter paths compared with some other national parks. Many of the experiences are geared more toward people who want longer hikes, rugged trails, or backcountry adventures. That said, Canyonlands is still an impressive place. The sheer size, the geology, and the views are unforgettable. Standing above those massive canyons gives you a sense of the incredible forces that shaped this land over millions of years. For visitors who love hiking, off-road exploration, backpacking, or seeing landscapes from dramatic viewpoints, Canyonlands is definitely worth visiting. For us, it was not the emotional favorite of the trip, but it was still an important piece of the incredible diversity we experienced across America's national parks.

Essentially, Sand Dune Arch was our last stop in the National Park before the sun went down. I can't imagine hiking through this section in the dark, so plan your visit according to the sunlight available. The parking lot is small and we were lucky to find a spot. From the parking lot, it's an easy, short walk in the sand. Please note, there's a narrow passage way to get to the Arch so you'll want appropriate shoes. The ankle high hiking boots worked great for me. My friends said that sand got into their regular tennis shoes. Once you reach the Sand Dune Arch, please be respectful of the time and others around you. Naturally, we all want selfies without photo bombs. I had never heard of Canyonlands and we saw parts that we would never have seen. It was awe-inspiring and so very beautiful. I felt very safe and he taught us a lot about the area but also gave us time just to soak it all in. My favorite part of our trip so far was this ride. We rafted in the afternoon with Evans and Sam. They both worked very hard navigating the rafts, setting up and breaking down the lunch, and loading and unloading rafts. The water is low so it is not a fast moving river but the winds were really strong and pushing against us. Evans kept a great attitude and engaged with everyone and maybe that is just the norm. I was exhausted watching him! We saw a bald eagle fly over and land very close to us and that was a great highlight! Overall, a great day!

Mesa Arch is one of the most photographed arches in Utah. It is located in Canyonlands National…read morePark. The hike to the arch is only a half mile from Island in the Sky Road and is relatively easy to hike. The parking lot has about 35 spots and fills up quick. Especially at sunrise and during peak seasons. Mesa Arch is Canyonlands National Park's most famous attraction and is seen on most of their promo material. Mesa Arch is a 27-foot-long natural arch that sits at the edge of a mesa top. You get stunning views of the canyons below and of the La Sal Mountains in the background. The best time to come here is at sunset because the bottom of the arch glows red. Unfortunately, I couldn't get here until midday. But it is still an amazing arch to see in person at any time of the day because of its size and the amazing views behind it. After our short hike, we sat on the ledge next to the arch for some time and enjoyed the cool breeze and the view.

Double Arch in Arches National Park is quite a sight to see. It is only less than half a mile walk…read morefrom the parking lot and an easy trail to walk on. Double Arch is located within the Windows area of Arches National Park. It is the tallest and second-longest arch in the park. They call it Double Arch because two arches share the same stone as a foundation for both of their outer legs. It was formed by downward water erosion from atop the sandstone instead of side-to-side water erosion. I have been to this arch on a couple of occasions. The parking lot fills up quickly because this is such a popular area in Arches National Park. I usually try to spend some time seeing both Double Arch and the Windows arches when I am visiting this area. North Window, Turret Arch and the Garden of Eden areas are just as impressive to check out. Even though you can see this incredible rock formation from the road, definitely take the time to walk up to it. There are some spots to climb on and take pictures if you feel like it.

I contacted the company to reschedule, but instead of showing any understanding, they charged me a rescheduling fee that essentially made me pay double for the same tour. I understand that businesses have cancellation policies, but charging a customer extra in a situation like this feels unreasonable and unfair. A company's customer service is tested when something goes wrong. In my case, there was no flexibility, no empathy, and no attempt to find a fair solution. I would not book again and recommend that others ask very clearly about rescheduling fees and emergency exceptions before paying. Boat riders very cool, thanks guys, no qestions about.

The scenery was breathtaking, but what truly made the experience unforgettable was our guide Shaun. Shaun was absolutely outstanding. He was incredibly knowledgeable, not only about the river, but also the history, geology, wildlife, and the entire surrounding area. Every question we asked was met with an interesting answer, and his passion for what he does really shines through. Beyond that, Shaun was kind, funny, smart, and made everyone feel comfortable and welcome from the moment we launched. He struck the perfect balance between keeping us safe, sharing fascinating information, and making sure we were having an amazing time. By the end of the trip, it felt like we had spent the day with a friend. We can't wait to come back to Moab and do it again! When we do, we will absolutely be requesting Shaun as our guide. If you're considering a rafting trip, don't hesitate - you'll make incredible memories, and if you're lucky enough to get Shaun, you're in for an unforgettable adventure!

I was super nervous about the rapids but it was honestly not bad at all. We even got in the water and floated thru the rapids at "swimmers rapids" and took some splashes in the face but it was still a ton of fun! It was warm out so getting splashed and in the water was refreshing! The smaller 6 person boats were the perfect size that you still got some bumps as you went thru the rapids vs the really huge boats some other companies had and it kept it to our family of 5.
