I have been riding at North Gate for almost four years now. I previously rode at some other barns in the area, but North Gate has been by far the best. I started there as a relative beginner in the lesson program, and their knowledgable and kind instructors were able to improve my riding monumentally. With the experience I had gained, I was able to join the IEA team. Their team is well organized and helpful, and provided an excellent introduction to showing in my first year. Their lesson prices are reasonable and have been manageable for my family. The next year, I moved up to jumping crossrails in IEA. The sportsmanship and community that their IEA team provides is remarkable. IEA has helped me improve my riding so much, and has made me really feel like part of a team. In addition, their IEA team had been successful to the zone and national level. I know we have been to the New England Zone final competition for IEA at least four years in a row, the last of which I was able to participate in. The lesson program and IEA team are excellent, but the training and show program is even better. I was able to lease an on-barn horse for six months and receive superb instruction from the head trainer, Stacy Falco. I then moved on to boarding a horse. The barn staff does a beautiful job. His stall is always clean and well bedded; he is always turned out correctly, and they will care for him as best as possible when I am not able to. The staff is knowledgable and able to care for any issues my horse may have very well. The training is excellent, and I have been able to show in equitation and been introduced to the jumpers. Stacy brings us to local one day shows, and A and AA-rated shows like HITS-on-Hudson, The Vermont Summer Festival, and Fieldstone. Stacy has amazing connections and has been able to find wonderful horses for everyone.
Besides my own experience, I have been able to see how well everyone else does. Stacy has brought the show riders to showing at much higher levels than they did previously, and our horses have all become more fit and able since she arrived. My own horse used to have barely any hind muscle, but now he has a good, strong haunch. The beginners at the barn benefit from kind horses, and helpful, caring instructors. All the school horses are a lot of fun to ride. They have a variety, from green and a little stubborn or wild horses to extremely well behaved and happy ponies, to a small selection of on-barn lease options. The only negative thing I can say about North Gate is that the board prices are a little bit high, but it is also true that you get what you pay for-- North Gate is an excellent facility with excellent staff. Lesson and IEA prices are very reasonable. read more
