Downloaded Yelp just to write this review. :) I've lived in this building for almost 2 years now in 2 separate units so this review is long overdue. Besides the weird, sometimes nasty smells that can come from the bathrooms in this building, depending on what unit you live in, the leasing office staff seem mostly focused on sales and not concerns or suggestions of the actual tenants. Also they can be sometimes rude, gaslighting, and straight up not accommodating. Not sure if it's because I'm one of the younger tenants, because I'm African American, or both. Today I wanted to access the yoga studio and was dealt with in a pretty rude way by multiple staff members. Somehow I feel like if I were older and whiter they would've been more courteous. When I questioned why on earth would they need my drivers license just so i could get into the yoga studio, staff was irritated, I noticed by his confrontational speech which left me highly annoyed to say the least. I tried to reason and ask if they could simply just unlock the door and not have to take my ID & they were not having it. & the cherry on top is that the yoga studio was just unlocked the previous day when i was using it. In addition, the property manager of this building had also previously falsely accused my guests of smelling like marijuana when entering & exiting the building. I responded to her email and said that i had no idea that smell checks were being performed in the lobby upon entry. read more

We had used this apartment with SpotHero for a girls night, and had encountered a stop to our night: my car wouldn't start. The night-time attendant on duty (unfortunately I don't know his name) graciously offered to help us start our car without a single sigh of frustration. He served us with humility and grace and quite honestly saved our night. Without his help, we would've been stranded in a parking lot waiting for a random tow-truck in the late night. If this says anything about the management at this location, it shows that customers are the first priority and management will stop at nothing to deliver the best service, care, and safety to their patrons. I am very impressed with the care and commitment granted to us, and will never forget the kindness and compassion bestowed upon us. read more

Very disappointed with this building. Always doing some type of construction or need to shut off water. I work from home and dont need the loud noise when I'm on client calls. Will be looking for something else next year. read more

Waterton bought the building (Waterton Residential Illinois, LLC), but hasn't made things any better. In fact, it's worse. Elevators constantly broken, filthy lobby, garbage piled up, ripped wallpaper, broken based board. I heard from my neighbor that Waterton is putting in a new grill area and fixing up the pool.. Who cares? Fix the lobby! Also, fix the constantly broken washers, dryers, and elevators. Please, stop with the cheap cosmetic fixes just to lure in unsuspecting renters. Fix the filthy and currently broken conditions for people who live here now. How expensive can it be to buy some functional lobby furniture before you decorate the pool area? Questionable decision-making skills, Watertown. You're acting like Crescent Heights management. Poor decision-making continues: Elevators are often out of service. Last week, I couldn't even get off my floor because all elevators were down for repair - no warning given. None at all! I missed an appointment because I couldn't get out at 5:15 pm on a Friday. The doorman station counter was chipped, so Waterton thought it would be a smart idea to replace it in the freezing weather (winter 2019 temps of -2 for days) with all doors sealed tight! Due to no ventilation, noxious fumes from the glue lingered in the lobby and the building for weeks - serious health hazard. The designer that Crescent Heights hired (mysteriously, no one knows this NYC woman's name) cut spaces in the walls that are pointless. Waterton filled one gap with a metal chair the "designer" placed in the lobby. Wow, imagine sitting your vertebrae and spine on a metal chair for any length of time. Please, Waterton, make the lobby right first. Hold off on other so called "improvements". Readers, find out who manages and/or owns any building before you rent. Good luck! read more

Absolutely amazing place to stay at. Moved to Chicago for work purposes and after an exhaustive tour of multiple buildings, I am so glad I chose to live here. JACKIE M has been by far the BEST leasing agent I have ever worked with. She is fantastic, caring and throughout the process went over and beyond to ensure a smooth move-in. Highly highly recommend working with her! Waited over a month after move-in prior to posting this to really experience living here. The building has great amenities, the gym is better than most buildings and feels like a real gym. They host free events monthly for the residents which is a great way to actually meet people in the building. The building is currently doing some renovations, but the work is done during the day so when I come home, it is quiet and peaceful. The door staff is really nice and welcoming and the place truly feels like a home. The neighborhood is really nice and safe. Tons of things in walking distance, including a Mariano's, restaurants and parks for pets and children. read more

DAC recommended this apartment because of it's view, amenities, location, and in no small part, Jackie the leasing manager, who treated me incredibly well throughout the process. There are many great things about living at NHT (which I have done now for over 10 years) but easily the best is the doormen. Funny, engaging, polite, friendly, incredibly helpful...far too many positives to list in a Yelp review. For example, several years ago my wife had back surgery and when I was out of town, Mike consistently went out of his way to help her lift items from her car and bring them up to our unit. These are the types of things that a resident never forgets. Mike, Jose, David, James, Leo...every single one of them (and the maintenance crew too!) couldn't be more gracious and pleasant. They're a huge reason why we have lived at NHT for as long as we have. Beyond this, there are wonderful amenities in the building including a nearby grocery store, a pool, gym and dry cleaner in the building as well as frequent tenant events throughout the year. The views of the lake and city are terrific and the neighborhood around the building has really blossomed over the last decade. Lastly, the management team consistently works to make residents feel special. Sherry always has an open door policy and is highly engaged with all the residents. The only downsides that I can mention is the lack of washer/dryers in many of the units. However, this limitation does tend to come with living in a space challenged, high rise apartment in a big city. There is also the challenge of a harsh wind that comes off the nearby lake which makes the Chicago winter feel even colder. However, it's an easy trade-off when you consider that the building is very close the lakefront. The close proximity to the DuSable Harbor makes for easy access to run and bike and we often can see the Navy Pier fireworks from the window of our unit! I understand that some tenants don't enjoy the new, more modern look of the lobby (I'm not one of them...overall I think it's an improvement) but if that is the worst thing about living there, I think we're all doing pretty well? :) As with anywhere one lives, there are upsides and downsides. It comes down to whether a residence is a good fit for your life and what's important to you. For my family, we really enjoy what we have an NHT and recommend it to anyone who is looking for an upscale high rise in a great neighborhood near the Loop. read more

**UPDATE** Our washer broke, and they replaced it with a new one in less than a week! This place knows how customer service should be done.

I'm leaving two separate reviews here - one for the door staff and one for management. Just a disclaimer, we lived in this building for a little over two years so saw how it was pre-Waterton and post-Waterton. Outside of the door staff, who have all consistently been awesome, most of this is post-Waterton. Door staff - these guys are amazing! They're always friendly and courteous. They really make an effort to get to know the residents and are incredibly helpful. I would give this group 6 stars if I could. Retaining all of this staff was the best decision I've seen management make with the Waterton transition. Management/leasing office - here's where the two star review kicks in....prior to signing our lease a couple of years ago, we ask if there is going to be any major construction occurring. We are told no. Lo and behold, they start a multi-month lobby renovation project a few months after we move in. This project includes the installation of white flooring and weird, very uncomfortable lobby furniture. Guess how well white flooring works in Chicago where there is some form of precipitation outside 70% of the time. I feel really bad for the maintenance and cleaning staff (who also deserve 6 stars with the door staff) because they seem to have to spend an inordinate amount of time scrubbing that white floor. Around the same time that the construction in the lobby begins, an elevator goes down on the high rise side, which is a big deal when you live on the 45th floor and now need to budget 8 minutes into your morning just to get down to the lobby to head to work. I wish I could say it was quickly fixed or an isolated incident....I think in the two years we lived there, there was an elevator down 90% of the time. The freight elevator is actually now currently inoperative (and will be for at least another month or two), which makes the move-in/move-out process super exciting. Additional construction update, if you're into super loud jackhammering outside of your window for 2-3 months (and counting) outside of the expected timeline, then this building is for you! They have been and continue to be going through building exterior fixes that seems to exclusively involve loud power equipment. I understand that making the requisite fixes to the building is necessary, but if you work from home or value your hearing/sanity from 8:00 AM-5:00 PM Monday-Friday then this building is not for you. Final thoughts, some of the decision making in the management office requires some questioning....ex: they waited until June to renovate the sundeck (requiring that the sundeck be closed for most of the month) without adjusting the portion of the rent that would equate to amenities fees accordingly. They legitimately waited until there were holes in the tread of the treadmills to start replacing them. There's both new interior and exterior construction starting every day so the noise will be there for at least the next few months, if not longer. Every time estimate given by management around elevators being down, jackhammering occurring outside your window, amenities being closed, will be exceeded by at least weeks, likely months. All of this to say, don't live here currently. Wait a few years for the construction inundation to cease (management will tell you months - DO NOT BELIEVE THEM). One quick edit - there used to be a different page with many more reviews. Looks like management or corporate had that one taken down......I think you can probably infer the why there. read more

The door staff at North Harbor Tower are incredible. Jose, the supervisor, is very caring and accommodating. It's such a pleasure to come home to a smiling face and someone willing to assist you in anyway. He is an amazing person. David is another amazing door staff that greets you with a smile and no matter what you need he is willing to help. He is so personable and kind. Mike is so helpful to my senior mom.. he has such a sweet spirit and also very helpful and welcoming when we come home. I am so thankful for such a wonderful person to see every day. Jose, we call him Young Jose, very kind young man that is so different to see in a young person. He is such a great help to us he even helped bring in packages.. James, was one of the first doorman we met when we moved in almost a year ago. It is so amazing to me that he takes pride in learning everyone's name. I just moved into a studio a few days ago. The leasing staff (particularly Brian) was responsive and helpful prior to move-in. Jackie gave me a tour of the building/apartment and was very friendly. The actual move-in day was a little shakier than I had hoped for, but it was a Saturday so several other residents were moving in at the same time. We had a UHAUL van and could not find the loading dock, so Jose (door staff) went above and beyond by hopping into the van and directing us to the right location. While on the topic of the door staff, James has also exceeded my expectations. He takes care of anything you need and then some. Brian made up for the complicated move-in by giving me a bottle of wine and a wine glass. One recommendation I would have for the leasing staff is to better explain how the elevators work when you reserve one at move-in. Also, figure out a way to more effectively direct people to the loading dock. The lobby appears to have been nicely renovated and the building amenities are great. The sauna, however, has not worked since I moved in. There is a beautiful indoor pool but sadly no hot tub. One of the best features, trivial as it may seem, is the complimentary coffee set out in the lobby every day (and it tastes good). There are other small touches that make the building feel sophisticated and upscale, such as the lobby music and décor. The property managers and staff seem to understand that residents in this building are paying a premium to live in a community in which the details matter, no matter how small. I put in a maintenance request to adjust some of the shelving in my closet, but I have not heard anything about it in a couple days. Not sure how long the typical wait time is. Hopefully this will be resolved without issue. Although there is room for improvement, I am giving this building a 5-star rating since the staff embraces every issue with a solution-oriented mindset. I've lived in North Harbor Tower for 5 yrs with my family after moving to Chicago from out of state. From what I can tell it's the friendliest high rise around. The doorman are kind and funny and my neighbors love to smile and say hello. The neighborhood is awesome for families and it's close to everything. My favorite feature is the grocery store connected underground to the building. So handy especially in the winter. read more

The only reason we gave the building 5 stars is because of its magnificent door and maintenance staff. Mike, James, both Jose's, Dave, and Leo are the most amazing individuals the building has to offer. Having said that, this building is not really the best place to live. Elevators constantly, and constantly in the most literal sense, break down (on the low rise side, either an elevator breaks down every night or its switched off for some reason). When compared to nearby buildings, north harbor tower is generally speaking overpriced for what it has to offer. That is some apartments have very old finishes, those who actually have new finishes are badly built (one of my neighbors had the newest finishes, and wooden sections of the floor did not match the dimensions of the apartment so there were visible wholes and cracks on the flooring); I cannot even count how many times my refrigerator flooded leaking water to the kitchen and instead of buying a new one, they simply came over every two months or so to fix it. The building also imposes a standard RCN package to all tenants in the hope that they would receive "bulk" price, however RCN constantly offers better deals to individual customers than what tenants have (easily verifiable by visiting RCN's website). Before deciding to move in please compare to nearby buildings, literally exact or lower prices for same size units, newer buildings, amenities, and most have in unit washer and dryer, because when I was deciding whether to move out or not, I pointed all these things to management in an email and after four years of living at this building, not even an acknowledgment from management. read more
