As you see from my review of True Value in North Hollywood, I prefer to visit hardware stores over giant home improvement stores because you get personal service... ...that hasn't applied for me at North Hollywood Hardware in my multiple visits. It has 1 of everything so you're covered there. You're paying more, of course, but that's to be expected. My two issues are the complete lack of customer service (outside of someone reluctantly cashing me out and using as few words as possible) and store navigation. It's a small space and as I said they have everything, but no aisles are labeled. You'll be doing some wandering, believe me. On this most recent trip, they were blasting the entire album of Alice Cooper's "Welcome to my Nightmare" so that is a plus. Their heart is in the right place...the problem is, for the consumer, we feel like we're shopping in your house to buy stuff - not exactly ideal. read more

There are Home Depots and there are Lowes. There is OSH and there are many big time coporate stores to choose from then you are in the need of a hardware store. Then there are the mom and pops, that ask you if they can help the minute you walk in and actually mean it. They don't just point and go back to passing the time of their shift, they actually help. And I can't tell you how much that is appreciated in today's world! As a now pretty handy DIY girl, I will be the first to admit that I wasn't always this way, but thanks to alot of their tips, I now pretty much rock at home improvement projects! Nice, friendly and once again they manage to deliver that small town kindness in the midst of a big giant city and I can't support these places enough. And yeah, you can go to one of those wherehouse types of home improvement stores and save a few dimes, but I guarantee you won't get asked how that tile caulking project went a few months back either. read more

Super friendly and always helpful staff!!! When it comes to customer service, this is the exact opposite experience you get from Home Depot (where you walk around for 20 minutes just looking for a person and then when you find one they may not even be knowledgeable enough to help you.) The decor is darling with little rubber rats wearing sunglasses and I have heard this store fittingly dubbed by some of the locals "the rock n roll hardware store." Also, even though it's a small store, they seem to have a great selection and always have what I need. How do they do that!? Prices are on occasion slightly higher than their larger corporate competitors but I have to say that's understandable since they are a "Ma and Pa" and they don't move as much product. Bottom line, you are better off supporting this store. Your experience will be far richer than if you give your hard earned money to a greedy chain. I had been putting off the simplest home repair issue for 2 months. Yup. Replacing a toilet flapper. Everyone was tired of reaching into the tank to flush the toilet. I FINALLY just picked North Hollywood Hardware off of Yelp and shot over there. They were closing in 10 mins and I told them my problem. They showed me that without the actually flapper with me I had way too many options! They told me that they would hold the store for me to race home, grab the flapper and come back. Which they did. The staff here is great they are extremely nice but the prices are extremely high I got 2 peices of copper and solder total was almost 40 bucks home depot would have been less than 25 but I needed the parts for a job so I paid I needed more parts later on the next day to finish my project and i asked for 20 feet of copper when I saw the total it was 140 dollars !!!! For only 20 feet of copper ! That is outrageous I had to make a drive to home Depot to get it and spent 50 bucks huge price difference I would recommend to go elsewhere for parts this place is expensive read more

I know I'm reviewing a hardware store but this place plays the best music around. Every time I stop in I hear, Pink Flioyd, Pearl Jam, Beastie Boys, Zappa, Led Zep, etc... The staff is great and they even told me a story about how Paul McCartney stopped in a few years ago to buy an ax. This place is very convenient and has everything. They have parts that cater to the older 30s houses that are in the neighborhood. Old time hardware store that requires the support of the local community to continue being there. Successfully running this type of operation year after year is tough. They have to charge more than the big box stores. The real estate costs more and they pay more for their inventory. You get knowledgable advice and direction, quick personal service and parts that other stores just do not have plus they are just down the street. I wish I had the same experience as all the 4 and 5 star reviews. This is my neighborhood hardware store too, and I've been there a dozen times but I have not received friendly and helpful services. I've wandered the aisles looking for what I needed with no one asking if they could help me find something . Two days ago I went to get white paint and the older white haired guy behind the counter never acknowledge me, even when I has to pass between him and the other customer with whom he was having an animated conversation about how much they hated their bosses! And they were openly mocking someone's foreign accent ! Unbelievably inappropriate and rude behavior in a business establishment! Today I purchased my paint at the friendly, clean and organized OSH store. Convenient, reliable local hardware store. When you don't have the time and are not searching for a specialty item this store is ideal. While it doesn't have the inventory of a Home Depot or Lowes it also is less crowded and more personal. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. When I needed an odd-sized light bulb of an odd wattage, they were there. When I needed myriad other home improvement-related things, North Hollywood Hardware was there! The epitome of mom-and-pop, the people who work here are helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. All you have to do is tell them what your project is, and even if you can barely cough out the correct descriptive words, they will know exactly what you are talking about and exactly where it is located in the store! It's almost magical! Forget all the big chains with overwhelming aisles and often-clueless teenage customer service. Even though the place is about a third of the size of those other places, they have never not had something I needed. This is my go to hardware store. I've been coming here for years. If you don't want the overcrowded, understaffed conditions of the larger hardware stores, then this is the place. Friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful staff. 99% of the time they have what I need. Yes, you may pay a little more for the items but I choose to support smaller mom and pop shops and businesses.' It's nearly impossible for these small shops to compete with the larger corporate businesses that are taking over in our country. If like me, you want these kinds of shops to remain, then pay a bit more to keep them as an option. I find it fascinating how people complain about prices and then turn around and complain about being screwed over by corporations. A little common sense goes a long way. read more

Great selection, no "superstore" lines and helpful sales people. Thats what its all about. I can always find what I need here and, honestly, if I can't, I am sure I have no idea what I am talking about and the fine sales people will help me figure it out. Sure the prices are higher than Home Depot or OSH but think of how your life expectancy will increase from not dealing with the hassle of those places [not to mention the toxic fumes]. When you add in the insane price of gas and the likelihood you will have major body damage from the parking lot at the Home Depot in Hollywood, how can you really go wrong. When I purchased the first time had an okay time, but had a bad experience trying to return said item after it didn't work out. When I was voicing my frustration with the guy 'helping' me, all he said to me was "I don't know what to tell you lady..." not helpful at all.
