WARNING: Nepotism, nepotism, nepotism. Almost everyone is related to the Dr. and are from one particular Asian country. It's a "We hire our cousins" type of place. They even tell you if they're a cousin or an aunt, so they must not know it's not really allowed anymore in this part of the world. The patient care suffers because of this. Nepotism became unethical many years ago, but not at this organization. Also, they don't follow HIPAA regulations at all. A number of times, when I was checking in here, the Office Worker (an Aunt I believe) was also watching her school age children after school. Her kids were looking at my health info on a computer screen right over her shoulder. I could tell they were reading everything. It didn't seem right. I received Mohs surgery at North Pacific Dermatology in Bellevue, WA to remove basal cell carcinoma a couple of years ago. The surgery was top notch, but the the care from his cousins and aunts after the surgery was very bad. I returned weekly for 5 weeks to have another membrane and bandage put on. Of the 6 bandages they put on, 3 fell off within one day. It was very scary. One fell off within the hour. Do not go to this place as you will not receive good care because they hire their own family members and are not held accountable as they would be at most medical places. read more

This place is an absolute joke! About three months ago or so (today is 11/19/2024), my elderly mother was diagnosed with Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) on her neck. Virginia Mason told us they were booked out for several months, approaching a year, to get the cancer removed by a Mohs micrographic surgeon. They recommended North Pacific Dermatology at their Renton office. I called and made an appointment for the surgery for the day before Thanksgiving so I could travel in from Minneapolis and be with mom for the surgery. Today, there was a pre-op appointment which they said they required and was scheduled BY THEIR SCHEDULER. I did not know such a thing was needed. Afterward, these jokers called me and told me that THEY got the appointment mixed up in their system, as they thought it was for mole removal, not Mohs micrographic surgery, even though I was very clear on why I was making the appointment AND they had received the referral from Virginia Mason that clearly stated the referral was for Mohs! They verified that they received the referral for the Mohs micrographic surgery from Virginia Mason. The physician who called me said she didn't read the records, and her assistants did not either, until this morning WHEN MY MOTHER WAS THERE! Apparently, they mis-scheduled this and the only place they do the Mohs procedure is in Bellevue and there is no availability there for months! AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE. They are incompetent, their English skills are sub-par and they still expect me to pay for the appointment from today where they screwed up and wasted our time, and my money as I purchased an airline ticket and hotel to be there for this surgery! This place is a mess. Do not trust anything they tell you. FIND ANYWHERE ELSE! A back alley with a switchblade will be more reliable than this. They offered NOTHING to compensate for this and they did not offer to make a hole in their Bellevue schedule. They are callous, uncaring, rude, greedy and incompetent. And they have put mom's life at risk by delaying her surgery for many more months! These people are evil at best! (Does it sound like I am angry?) I will never let mom go back there! I haven't ever posted a review via Yelp (at least that I can remember), but my surgery/ experience went so well; that I had to do so! I had the mohs surgery with Dr. Kageyama at North Pacific Dermatology and my journey through it from the beginning to end was great! The doctor/ surgeon and team were not only caring and kind during this sensitive time, but the surgery itself went phenomenal. I was very stressed out about the procedure (first time I had ever had any kind of surgery) and Dr. Kageyama assured me everything would be great! He did a phenomenal job/ took out what was needed and my recovery went very well. I am happy to share that you can barely see anything (after recovering from just a few months now). If I could give Zero stars and write a review zero stars would be my review! NP Dermatology in Renton has the worst fronted staff I have ever experienced. Extremely unprofessional & rude. As far as the dr's I have no comment as I have not gotten past the rude staff. I don't know why physicians don't check their staff with "secret patients" There are plenty of dermatologist out there that are probably fabulous but they haven't checked their staff's ability to represent them in positive manner. It was terrible. Will never go back. They were in a hurry, did not take time, have never been to a dermatologist who has done that.

The office team was very helpful on our first visit for my husband's basil cell that needed to be removed. We had gone in for his initial consult and they took his insurance information. Dr. Kageyama saw him before a procedure so we wouldn't have to wait. The office staff told us the surgery was covered.... We just received a statement from their 2nd-party billing department for $873. That does not include the two other charges for almost an additional $500 that will be added to it. The billing department will review the charges, but it looks standard in their opinion. We called the office to ask about it. They told us, "Well it is covered...but there might be a deductible." We were never told that was a possibility with this procedure or that there may be a balance. Every doctor's office we've ever been to lists out costs and what insurance covers and what you will own (give or take). The dentist does that, my cryo-ablation doctor does that. We were only expecting a copay. When we further asked for assistance, we were told we needed to deal with the billing department, they can't help. Last time I checked, the doctor still has the last say and considering their mistake in how our surgery, insurance, and communication was handled, you would think they would help reduce the bill. Had we known about these charges we would have gone to our insurance to try to find a clinic where more of the charges were covered. Bad communication, no help after. read more

Similar to other posters, my experience with their billing department is abysmal. They are still trying to collect on a bill that I paid over a year ago, and I have already submitted proof of payment three times. At this point I am being contacted by a collection agency for a check that they deposited into their account a year ago. read more

Worst fucking medical office I've ever been to. I was improperly diagnosed and treated. And after almost a year, it took me 20 plus calls to get a hold of someone to rectify the billing issue. I paid three separate $100 installments to my bill, and they never "received" them. I had to pose as a new patient for someone at the front office to contact me after leaving more than 10 voicemails. Only then, was my issue addressed. The new billing company had to assign a research team to my case to find my missing payments. That in itself took 4 weeks. I have yet to receive a bill showing that I paid $300 of my $370 bill. Absolute fucking bullshit. And on top of that, I'm still having reoccurring issues for what the doctor was supposed to treat. read more

Care was great. Convenient and fast. Billing not so much. I paid my bill. I overpaid. I showed evidence of this to the billing group they have contracted with multiple times. Based on insurance adjustments a they owe me money yet they sent me to collections. I have called the office multiple times and been told it is taken care of. I have called the billing group but was stuck on phone for hours - not helpful. I provided documentation that I paid - and was told it would be taken care of. Two weeks later - another notice from collections. When I call back - they just ask when collections bill was dated. The front desk staff have been very nice but this has not resolved. Long story short - you can get quality care in many places and this group is not worth the hassle. Based on other reviews - I am not alone. Go somewhere else. read more

My friend was referred to Dr. Nobu K. for surgery for a large facial cancer. We were never told that Dr. Patel would see him, not Nobu. Dr. Patel seemed fine. He ordered a stat CT Scan with contract. Taylor was untruthful and never placed the order with Overlake. I tried all weekend to get him the scan. No way to reach the doctor or an on call doctors. These are surgeons and should absolutely have someone covering the practice on weekends. Stat means now or soon. Our fiend has a gaping hole in his face, the cancer is spreading and Dr. Patel said this was urgent. Taylor, the receptionist when asked about all of these things was terribly rude and unhelpful on many levels. She should be fired and when we talked with the referring physician, their office said Taylor is a problem and they have many complaints about her but she is still there! We have now moved on to another professional surgeon and a much more professional office. Dr. Patel was apparently notified of these problems but has yet to reach out to us. This office is a mess and would not recommend it to anyone. Susan the manager was nice and called back and I hope she acts on these complaints but she too knows that these problems exist. Likely will notify the department of health as I feel they have fallen below the standard of care on several areas of patient care. read more

I wanted to wait until I completely healed up before I decided to write my review. I went to Dr.Sugai for some minor blemishes on my face. After an inital consultation I was scheduled to come back in the following week. Dr.Sugai was the consummate professional. He took the time to explain exactly what he was doing and made sure I was as comfortable as possible . Everything went well and my skin healed up perfectly. I am probably not the easiest patient to deal with as I am very particular when it comes to selecting a physician. Years ago my law practice represented hundreds of physicians and surgeons and I know that there is an enormous difference between the abilities of an excellent surgeon and those of an average or poor surgeon. When my dermatologist referred me to Dr. Kageyama I started a due diligence investigation and in the course of that investigation I read the June 5, 2011 Yelp review posted by "Buddy S." below. I then contacted my dermatologist (who is a well regarded and highly rated physician), told her about the review and asked if she had any reservations about Dr. Kageyama. She told me that her patients have had excellent experiences with Dr. Kageyama, that he was a gifted surgeon and that he had achieved superior results. There are two dermatologists that live in my condominium building and I also asked them about Dr. Kageyama. One said "he is the best in the area" and the other said "I am glad that you wound up being referred to such a good surgeon." I had my stitches removed yesterday following Mohs surgery on my nose and I am pleased to report that my entire experience with Dr. Kageyama and his staff (in particular, Liz, Barbie and Michelle) could not have been better. At all times my care was competent, professional and caring and I was treated with respect and courtesy. My surgical scar is barely noticeable now and I believe that within three months it will be virtually invisible. I wish to thank Dr. Kageyama and his staff for making what could have been an unpleasant experience into a pleasant memory and I would highly recommend Dr. Kageyama to anyone in need of a Mohs surgeon. read more

We have experienced the most ridiculous wait today. A one hour wait turned in to a two hour wait! Why do so many doctor's offices disrespect their patients with abysmal time management? What is the patient's time worth? There is an absence of customer service. If a restaurant screws up they will give you a free desert! As anyone who has had Mohs surgery for skin cancer on the face knows, it is incredibly important to select the correct surgeon. You do not want someone's "bad day" stitched on the front of your face forever. With my Scandinavian heritage I've had experiences with this procedure and I give Dr. Kageyama the highest rating. I was out of town at a different office when I had the stitches removed and the attending said it was some of the finest work he'd ever seen. His Mohs artistry is worthy of a Nobel Prize. read more

I have been to North Pacific Dermatology atleast thrice to see Dr. Nobu Kageyama. I would certainly NOT RECOMMEND him to anyone. Each time my experience was less than satisfactory. Probably the only positive thing I can say is the reception is polite and quick to schedule. Dr. Kageyama appears distracted and in a hurry in every appointment. He is quick to rush into an invasive procedure (such as a biopsy or surgery) without evaluating if needed. Beware you may be left with a scar for life! He gave poor guidance on taking care of wound for appropriate healing and didn't appropriate monitor healing. Highly disappointing! I would never go here again and would certainly never let a friend go here either. Do yourself a favor, and find a better dermatologist. Fantastic, friendly and efficient staff are to be found in abundance at North Pacific Dermatology. I hardly ever need to wait when I arrive for an appointment and I'm always greeted as if I'm a longtime friend. Dr. Sugai is superb! He always listens to my concerns, and seems to be a real partner in my health care which I appreciate so much. As someone who began dealing with skin cancer issues at a young age because of tanning bed use, I've spent plenty of time with dermatologists. I saw Dr Nobu Kageyama in the Bellevue office to have a mole removed from my forehead. Dr. Nobu was very pleasent and I had a wonderful experience w/ him and his whole staff. He does amazing work! After the removal of my mole, there is absolutely no scar! I will definitely see him again in the future if I need to have additional surgeries. I would recommend this doctor to anyone. read more

I had a very good experience at North Pacific Dermatology. I dealt with Michelle, Holly and Dr. Kageyama. All super helpful and great to deal with. They all went the extra mile for me, in terms of getting me an apt etc. I came in for a review of a biospy, that doctor Kageyama had analysed for my original dermatologist. He was frank and clear and said what he would do if it was his own issue, and it match my preferred option of having it removed asap. We went to the surgery room and he quickly did the work, painless and the stitching was very clean. Overall a great experience. read more

As a Vendor for Dermatologist I know how important it is to find a good Dr., especially when it comes to Moh surgery. The last Dr. I saw 9 years ago had done a poor job, and this lead to repeating surgery for a couple of areas on my skin. This time I ask Dr. Francis office if they could recommend someone and it turn out to be Dr. Kageyama. I could not be more satisfied with the results. My forehead required Moh removal and I'm happy to report how well Dr. K surgical skills were to leave no trace and reduce the pain unlike I had experienced before. Five stars are not enough to show how highly I regard Dr. Kageyama. I came to him when we first moved here two years ago just to get a full body check to make sure I didn't have any spots of concern. Dr. Kageyama immediately caught a mole on my leg that other doctors had glossed over for years. That mole ended up being melanoma, and thanks to his expertise, knowledge and surgical talents, I am now melanoma free without the trace of a scar. He walked me through every stage of the process and helped me understand what was happening so I wouldn't worry. He's professional, but warm, and extremely thorough. I have continued to see him over the last two years for check ups and he and his staff know exactly who I am when I walk in the door. I saw Dr. Kageyama for MOHS surgery to remove all of a basal cel carcinoma on my face. I had no reason to worry - everything went swimmingly with this provider. The staff is friendly and efficient and Dr. K and Tina were beyond competent. They instilled confidence and answered all of my questions in a pleasant manner. I never felt that he was distracted . I completely trusted him and followed his instructions exactly. When the steri strips came off, - tada - zero scar. On my face. I am so happy. There was a snafu with my insurance company but his office handled it quickly when I called. I will not hesitate to go back. read more

I cannot recommend North Pacific Dermatology after my initial visit to their Renton office. After a 30 minute drive, I arrived at their office for an 11:30am appointment five minutes late due to traffic. Once in the office I waited in line while the single receptionist at the front desk was on the phone with another client. That client was placed on hold while the receptionist helped the next woman in line. Dr Kageyama and the receptionist then took the next five minutes to help the woman locate an appropriate time for her next visit. During this time, another client in the office was ushered back to their appointment. When the woman finished scheduling her appointment I informed her that I was there for my appointment. She excused herself and headed back to talk with an associate (I assume the PA). After she returned I was told that I would have to reschedule. I looked at my cell phone, and it read 11:42am. I didn't bother to argue, politely rescheduled, and left never to return. Although I acknowledge that I was late, five minutes (increased to twelve minutes by an understaffed front desk) should not make the difference of being seeing by a doctor or not. read more
