I've been going to Lake Washington Dermatology for about the last 5-6 years and have been a patient of Dr. Kim's for most of that time. I have had truly nothing but great experiences with her and her office and would highly recommend her as a provider! I have been dealing with idiopathic urticaria (spontaneous hives) since 2009 and have seen many doctors and specialists who have never been able to find a solution. Then, a few years ago, I started having cold-induced hives as well, making it impossible for me to go out in the winter without breaking out in hives or even handle cold glasses and objects for too long. After no luck with increased antihistamine use, Dr. Kim prescribed me Xolair, which has been used experimentally for hives. It took a few weeks of her petitioning my insurance for use, but she got approval. Her and her team handled all of the back and forth and kept me updated throughout the process, and since I got on the medication, I have had no to minimal hive breakouts since. Then again this past year, when my employer-provided insurance changed, Dr. Kim and her team have continued to battle approvals for me and help me obtain samples while we sorting things out with insurance denials. Yvonne, a medical assistant on her team, has been extremely helpful and responsive, battling this for months now and keeping me informed and medicated in the meantime. Dr. Kim is the only person who has ever been able to help me with this condition, and her and her whole team have been nothing but professional, helpful and caring throughout my time as her patient. read more

I've been going to Lake Washington Dermatology since 2014 for a yearly skin map and occasional mole removal, and I hate to say it, but the practice has really gone downhill. It seems like they've switched focus almost completely to cosmetic procedures, and stopped caring about actual medical concerns. I had a weird blistering reaction to my bra hooks last November, and I've been trying to contact their office to schedule a nickel allergy test for three months. They still haven't called me back or replied to my messages (sent through their own system). However, they apparently have plenty of time to send me advertising emails about Botox, lip fillers, chemical peels, and laser hair removal. I can't speak for their expertise on giving you a "glow-up", since I've never used those services, but at this point, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone looking for medical care. read more

I'm not someone who usually writes reviews, but after my uncomfortable experience at Lake Washington Dermatology, I felt compelled to share. The first thing I noticed when I arrived was how incredibly busy the clinic was it felt more like a high-volume cosmetic dermatology factory than a medical office. What really concerned me, though, was the complete lack of confidentiality and privacy. At checkout, the receptionist not only said my full name out loud but also announced the procedure I had and the cost. With how crowded the waiting area was, many people around could easily hear this. I also witnessed another patient being given detailed instructions about an upcoming procedure right in front of everyone in the waiting room. Additionally, every new patient was asked to state their full name and birth date aloud, which could clearly be heard by everyone nearby. If you value your privacy and expect a degree of discretion in your healthcare experience, I would not recommend this clinic. read more

Dr. Kim is quick, friendly, and amazing at what she does. I go in for a skin map every two years just to check on freckles and always leave with amazing education and a smile on my face. The waiting room is clean and the staff is fast and friendly. They are always completely on it and ready. I never have to wait long for my appointment either. This week I went in for my skin map and had to get a mole removed. Dr. Kim was super fast and it was completely painless, which I was impressed with. She did a great job at keeping me updated, being thorough, and educating me on the condition of my skin and her recommendations. She ended up sending me home with a prescription for tretinoin which I am very excited to try. I have nothing but nice things to say about this place! I heard Dr Kim was good but she's only taking "cosmetic" type patients. So we went with someone else and it was awful. A ton of money for a rushed scan. And then the follow up, she was 20min late for the first appointment of the day, and didn't even look at my daughter. Only asked her how she was doing and if we had any questions. Done in 2min. Seriously. It was ridiculous and the difficulty in scheduling that many have commented on, was awful as well. read more

Really solid experience overall. From booking to filling out the paperwork online to the actual visit. I'm impressed with the fast responses via yelp and the modern systems being used. Everyone I came in contact were all extremely professional and caring. Dr. McGuire was the dermatologist I saw and he was great! Listened to my concerns and proposed solutions that made sense. Rather than just give me the usual prescription other dermatologists usually do and send me off only for the condition to recur, he also recommended a maintenance schedule and associated prescription so I won't have to deal with the recurrence. This was great because it showed he was listening. I'm glad I decided to check out a different dermatologist! Will definitely refer others who may be in need of a dermatologist. read more

The whole staff is always friendly. I'm always greeted with friendly smiles at the door. The lobby is busy with patients, I think I waited 30mins past my sign in time, I believe that is normal for medical care. Then I was escorted to the examination room. Once in the exam room I was asked routine questions, given a exam robe. Then the doctor came in quickly. I was given a quick and thorough skin exam. This tine we found nothing of concern. I had my first appointment at Lake Washington Dermatology this week with Dr Sean McGuire for a mole map. Booking an appointment was extremely easy and Dan (manager) contacted me almost immediately even though I had messaged them in the evening. He offered multiple ways of setting up an appointment (phone, email, etc.) based on whatever was most convenient for me which I appreciated. The next day one of the staff reached out and set up an account for me in their online appointment where I was able to complete medical history etc. prior to my appointment. The check-in process on the day of my appointment was quick and easy and I was called back to an examination room shortly after checking in. One of the medical assistants confirmed some of my medical history and preparing me for the examination. Dr McGuire arrived shortly after and after taking a moment to understand my concerns and walk me through the process before performing the mole map. During the mole map process he explained things as he went along as well as made general conversation to build rapport and to keep me distracted. He also had to perform a small biopsy which was quick and painless and he and his medical assistant did a great job in preparing me and explaining the follow up care I had to do. I'd have no hesitation in recommending Dr McGuire. read more

This practice is wonderful. I started seeing Dr. McGuire 3 months ago for a cyst removal, a plantar wart removal on the sole of my foot and a worrisome melasma under my eye that another dermatologist ignored. I've had nothing but wonderful expericences here the three times I've come. They are fully COVID-safe, easy to book and Dr. McGuire has a great bedside manner. In addition, I had previously seen another local dermatologist for ten years and she never did any regular tracking or measurement of moles during my annual visits like Dr. McGuire is doing. Horrible communication and customer service. After having an appointment for over a month with Dr. McGuire I received a letter from Lake Washington Dermatology saying that the Dr. McGuire was leaving. But not to worry that Dr. Kim would be there. Only to find out that the letter was a lie and IF i wanted to stay with them I would have to wait until the fall to get in with the new Dr. I have been a patient for years and have been moved from Dr. to Dr. in that practice because they all end up leaving. I am highly disappointed in this office and how it is managed. When I called to make an appointment for my husband for a cancer screening, I was told that he was booked over two months out. I explained that my husband only day he could come was on Fridays since he had that day off. They said that was fine so we booked an appointment. Now they are calling over a month later to let me know they need to reschedule because Dr. McGuire no longer works on Fridays. They said I could see an assistant instead. I now have to look for another dermatologist and we now have a long wait time to get into a new doctor. I feel this is very unprofessional and I would beware of making an appointment with this doctor and this office! read more

I was interested in receiving a Hydrafacial, and Dan Williams, the business manager, scheduled me for an appointment with their Master Aesthetician Jodeena for one. I had an amazing experience from the moment I walked in, to the moment I walked out. The front desk staff were very friendly, and Jodeena did an amazing Hydrafacial on me. She talked me through the entire process and my skin felt amazing afterwards. I would recommend anyone to come in to receive their Hydrafacial from Jodeena, your skin will feel amazing and just refreshed after the process. My skin feels great! I will be back again to try their other skin aesthetic services. Good luck getting an appointment! I emailed the office asking for an appointment next week. Someone called me back a few hours later (points for that); when they found out I hadn't been there before, they said "Oh, we don't have any new patient appointments available for a month." I guess they hold spots on their calendar for recurring patients. Which is great if you are one, but if you're a potential new patient, don't waste your time calling here. UPDATE: Definitely don't go here - their business manager has appalling customer service skills. Even after attempting to constructively correspond with him after posting this review, he sent me two messages demanding proof that I "was a real person". We have been Dr. Janie Leonhardt's patients for many years, and followed her to LWD. Her skills as a dermatologist are unparalleled. She has looked after our family's fair skin, with its attendant problems/sensitivities, with great care. I'd trust her judgement 100%. The only problem is availability: appointments with Dr. Leonhardt have to be scheduled way ahead and to see her at short notice is almost impossible. That no doubt speaks to her skill as a dermatologist and Moh's surgeon. read more

I am really happy I found this office as my skin looks better than it has in years! I requested an appointment through Yelp and Meg L responded to me in less than an hour to confirm an appointment time. I saw Melissa Prasatik and she was absolutely fantastic. She talked with me and immediately had a treatment plan to help me address my concerns. She is the first dermatologist that actually listened and created a real plan to help me get rid of my persistent skin problems. She was on-time, kind, and very knowledgeable. Just like each person's skin is different and personal to the individual, you have to find a dermatologist who is personal to you and can understand your skin. I think I have found mine in Dr. Kim. I was referred by a friend of mine to visit Dr. Kim when I started developing dry skin on my cheeks which no amount of moisturizer could cover. Dr. Kim did an amazing job at explaining the cause of my skin dryness and now I no longer have dry itchy skin. The front desk staff (unlike described otherwise) were ok to me, although I have been treated better by reception staff elsewhere. But once you get over that glitch, you have a smooth ride here. read more

It's surprising to me that Dr. Kim has anything but positive reviews on this site. I have been a patient of Dr. Kim's since 2001 when I was diagnosed with malignant melanoma at the age of 25. Fortunately it was caught very early and Dr. Kim saved my life. I have seen her at least once or twice per year for full skin exams since 2001 and she and her staff have taken great care of me. Dr. Kim is cautious about anything that looks suspicious, but has the knowledge, experience and intuition to know when it's ok to "wait and watch." I have had several other "pre-melanoma" moles discovered and removed by Dr. Kim, and because she caught them so early and because she is so good with skin, any scarring I've had has been minimal and most you can't even see anymore. One reviewer here complained about the wait for a new appointment. For new patients, it may take a while to get a first appointment with Dr. Kim because she has so many happy and loyal patients, which is a GOOD thing. Personally, I would rather wait to see a doctor who has a loyal following and a full schedule instead of one who can't keep patients. Here's a tip: ask to be put on their cancellation list. The staff can often get you in sooner than the calendar indicates if you can be flexible with your dates. Another reviewer or two complained that Dr. Kim was curt and that she rushed the appointment. I can only say that in the 12 years I have been a patient of Dr. Kim's, she has never been rude or curt to me, and personally, I value the expertise of my physicians more than their personalities. She knows what she's doing and she is efficient. She has a busy schedule of patients so I don't expect her to spend a lot of time chit-chatting with me, yet while I'm in the exam room with Dr. Kim, she is attentive and friendly, as is her nursing staff (especially Lori). Dr. Kim saved my life and my skin has never been heathier. She comes with my highest recommendation and every person I've referred to her has had the same positive experience. read more

I used to come to LW Derm a few years ago for acne. I never had severe acne, just obnoxious blemishes. Dr. Kim prescribed me an assortment of topical creams over the years but I never really felt like I saw results. We tried birth control and antibiotics, face washes you name it! Finally in college I just gave up and dealt with it. I stopped going because I felt like it was kind of a waste of time. While I feel like they are good doctors, their treatments just didn't work for me. Oddly after graduating and at the age of 24 it's slowly going away. I am less stressed, I eat better and my hormones might finally be regulated. I have tried more natural approaches and that seems to help. For example, if you get acne on your cheeks it is food related. If it is in the area in between you cheeks and around your mouth, its hormone related. And if it is your forehead it is stress related. A girlfriend told me this info after seeing an esthetician and sure enough for me it is like clockwork. I eat better, I am less stressed and I RARELY get pimples anymore. I wash my face morning and night with an occasional astringent a couple times a week if my pores look clogged. I use spot treatment ointment for the occasional pimple. So my advice is stop with all the ANTI-biotics, ANTI-aging creams and any other ANTI thing c and go PRO-biotics and be PRO-active about your skin. read more

The examination I got was ok, but I was harassed with collections and bad credit score over a bill I had paid. What I'm complaining about is their disorganization when it comes to billing. I was harassed by their outsource billing company for months over a bill which I paid through my provider. I called my provider to get all the details of the payment and gave it to them but they kept calling me about the bill. This must have happened at least 4 times over several months. It didn't stop there as Lake Washington Dermatology's billing person called asking for payment and threaten to send it to collections and give me a bad credit rating if I didn't pay. I told her again I gave the information to their billing department and asked if she actually read any details from my record. She had not and said she will get back to me. After that she called and said it was taken care of now as they messed up. Then the outsourced billing company called and said it was taken care of. They lack the skills to manage your payments and it can't be blamed on the outsourced company as their own billing person threaten me with collections. It gave me a lot of headaches and anxiety to be threaten with collections and bad credit score. I would highly recommend people not to go here as there are lots of other places to go. read more

It took Dr. Janie Leonhardt all of 30 seconds to give me an accurate diagnosis. And she's a total sweetheart. She was super friendly and made me feel like she gave a damn. I came back from South America a few months back, and began noticing some really dry patches of skin on my upper right arm. I'd never had that before, so I went in to get it checked out and Dr. Kim saw me. She diagnosed it as eczema, and I have since treated it. All back to normal! The appointment setting, customer service, bedside manner etc. all was pretty straightforward. I would go back if anything arises again, but hopefully I won't need to. read more

just avoid this place. from $130 to chat with a doctor for 2 minutes, to the absolutely ridiculous scheduling hours (good luck if you have a job or are in school), its just too much of a hassle. over the course of 4 years i had 4 different doctors due to their high turnover, and 3 of them just wanted you out the door asap, didn't actually care about your concerns/progress. they tote their "personalized" acne treatments, yet give the same treatment regimens regardless of skin sensitivities. read more
