This is the closest mall to me. I grew up coming here. I was recently there to exchange a couple of things and get a pair of shoes. We found the shoes we needed and were able to go exchange what we had to with no difficulty. The mall was not too packed on a Sunday afternoon. Was looking for a classic shopping center type mall, you know with a Macys or JC penny and Santa comes ha. This place is great for shopping and kids activities with the multiple play businesses! Santa was taking pics with kids and the line was not crazy. Good variety of stores for a simple shopping day and gift finding. Great large food court. read more

I've lived about 5-6 miles from this mall for two decades, but never shopped here before today. Indoor malls generally don't appeal to me because I'm a bit claustrophobic, but I needed to get to the Visionworks shop for an eye exam this morning. And it's located deep within the mall. I got there 20 minutes early for a 10:00 appointment, not realizing that Visionworks only just opens at 10:00, so I wandered around the mall for 15 minutes while I waited for Visionworks to open their gate. I will say "well done" to the mall owners for keeping all the store spaces rented. And about 6-7 kiosks, too. There were no vacancies, which surprised me. But out of all the stores, only 2 appealed to me! The stores and kiosks at this mall are just not my style, at all. I bought a yogurt at TCBY and shopped for a Nike hoodie for a nephew at House of Hoops. That's it. The mall was clean and parking is free, so I'll give it 2 stars. read more

However, if you're like me and don't really care for brand names just as long as the outfit that you're wearing looks good, feels good, and makes you feel good, then come shop here. From H&M, Charlotte Russe, Windsor - all the stores that are my go-to to find cute 'fits are located here. They also have an abundance of shoe stores from Foot Locker, Call It Spring, Journeys - you can definitely find what you're looking for. I thought Ford City Mall was bad, but North Riverside Park Mall takes the prize for being the most seedy ghetto mall ever! Parents don't monitor their children at all! They let them scream, yell, cry, run around, and do NOTHING to control them! Teens go around acting up, causing fights and trouble. And let's not forget the shootings that happen at the mall. Usually gang related, considering the poor area the mall is located in. The majority of stores are crap. Just selling cheap, low end, low quality products that are one step above the stuff you can find at a dollar store. The mall just opened up a new arcade and bowling alley, which will no doubt attract the trouble causing riff raff. They'll trash it in no time, forcing the mall to close it down. I give it 3 months before it gets closed down. They need to do to this mall what they did to the Brickyard Mall. Tear it down and make it a open air strip mall. This way the trouble causing riff raff will have no place to hang out at, like they do in the food court now. Avoid this mall! There are way BETTER shopping options! Like Broadview Village Square, The Quarry Shopping Mall in Hodgkins, and Oakbrook Center Mall. read more

Amazing how different people's perspectives are. I shop here a lot! Yes, just like everyone else I wish they had a Macy's or Ann Taylor loft but it is what it is. I shop at JCP, Old Navy, CPS, Stride Rite, Claires, Express and Starbucks, lol. I've been coming here for years and yes it's crowded but I've never seen anything dangerous happen here. Actually I feel very safe here. The teenagers keep to themselves. I don't judge because I was once a teen myself. Teens just want to have fun and they're not bothering anyone. I love this mall! They got few good stores like Spencer's, Hot Topic, Old Navy, JCPenney, H&M, Forever 21, H&M, Five Below, DTLR, and Aeropostale. They have a lot of shoe stores like House Of Hoops by Foot Locker, Flight 23, Footactons, Jimmy Jazz, and there's 2 Foot Locker stores. The North Riverside Park Mall isn't the worst yet isn't the best place to go to. It has a bit of something for everyone, you have options like sears and Old navy but for the younger people there's a lot of options varying from hot topic to gamestop. I've counted 3-4 different different shoe stores there which I think is a bit dumb since there doesn't need to be that many. The highlights for me have been the theater, food court and a few of the stores. Although the mall is diverse with many groups of people, there's been a few fights there and the most memorable is a giant group of kids acting a fool through the entire mall. Again, it's got a bit of something for everyone but don't let the people get to you. It has one thing I will honestly highlight and that's the Armed Forces Career Center. Shakeia T. was right when she said that North Riverside Mall is heavily shopped. Even Carson Pierrie Scott runs out of high-end stuff frequently. I work within walking distance of Old Orchard, but I have to make twice as much to afford anything there. I'll hit up NRM after work sometimes since it's near my house and they have a lot more affordable stores. If I need tools, there is Sears. If I want work clothes for not a lot of $$, there's JC Penny and Old Navy, even Express. Yea, this place is too crowded on a weekend, but it's funny how people get scared of a mall yet have no problems walking home alone drunk at 3 am in not-so-gentrified neighborhoods in Chicago. And, depending on where you live in Chicago, it's easier to get to NRM then Old Orchard or Harlem Irving Plaza (which is half the size of NRM). read more

The mall is "decent" at best. On the weekends is a hot mess good luck finding parking. The food court is alright it isn't that bad. The movie theater is okay. Besides the violence that's has occur. Is still decent mall. For all my concealed carry people. You cannot concealed carry in the mall. Even though there been a few shootings inside and outside of the mall. Law abiding citizens aren't allow to exercise their 2nd amendment here. Criminals on the other hand, well that's just a different story. I wanted El Milagro tamales for a get together Friday night. My friend dropped me off at the food court entrance. There were 5 police officers standing at the entrance. They were not socializing, they were standing in a line ready to serve and protect. I walked in with a slight bit of hesitation, but felt safe enough to walk a few feet into the food court. As we drove through the parking lot I noticed there were police at every entrance. When we started driving west on Cermak, we saw 6 squad cars with lights and sirens speeding towards the mall. Since Carsons has closed, there is not much of a reason I need to go to the mall, if I were to go it would be during the day when the shoppers would be over 18. read more

North Riverside Mall is definitely something... It's Different. I've always been told: if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. The mall itself seems to present itself and cater to a specific demographic. It seems like the stores are geared towards a much younger crowd. I feel like the only appeal and the majority of the stores are "Fast Fashion" based. The same majority that caters to those who are looking for "all looks and no quality", the kind of clothes you wear one or two times and are practically unwearable after washing! I will say that there are some of your typical Brand Name stores but those stores don't seem to be the bait that draws the crowd in. Thankfully my boyfriend and I arrived a little after the lunch hour, on a Tuesday afternoon. The mall definitely seemed a little quieter than most malls I've been to. Thankfully we avoided any sort of crowd(s) the entire time we were there. My boyfriend and I must have walked around the entire mall twice, if not more, give or take a half an hour. Aside from that, there really isn't much of an appeal to me personally, these kind of stores just don't cater to my usual shopping requirements. I'm not going to completely write off this mall, if I were ever in a pinch I would probably see an advantage. To sum it all up, you get what you pay for! I suppose that two things make or break a mall for me: 1) A good selection of stores in a pleasant setting. 2) The other clientele that frequent the mall. The North Riverside Mall has a pleasant setting, albeit typical. There's nothing really to set it above any other mall. It also has a good selection of stores, even though they're not the kind of stores that I like. Maybe I'm a snob, but I prefer the likes of J. Crew, Anthropologie, and Nordstrom. The North Riverside Mall doesn't even have an Abercrombie & Fitch. My little sister was disappointed that they didn't have a Hot Topic. Instead, this mall had stores that I didn't recognize and sold urban brands. There's a place to have printed t-shirts made and another place to pick up some bling. Although my last visit to the mall was nicely populated (not very crowded), that's not my usual experience at North Riverside. Not at all. It's usually crowded with herds of young adults and families with young children and strollers. I HATE THAT. Dyads of shoppers are easy to avoid, but large groups are something else - especially strollers. read more

My mom and I came here to walk and window shop because it was too cold to hit the trails. Inside the mall wasn't horrible but there weren't too many great stores to choose from. The real downfall of the experience came when we were leaving. It was early afternoon and we were walking through the parking lot when we saw a woman urinating next to a vehicle. It was maybe five cars from the front of the aisle and she was just peeing in the parking lot like it was no big deal. I might have considered going back had it not been for that only because it is close; however, that was pretty bizarre and really turned me away from returning. North Riverside Mall is the mall that Riverside kids weren't allowed to go to when they were younger. My friend, who's from a different suburb, said she came here with her mom only once and that she got her purse stolen. For me, this mall only ever felt unsafe when I waited outside the mall at night for a ride. My complaints about the mall are the following: -The variety of stores is really lacking. There are a lot of "urban" brands sold here that don't interest me at all. When I shop here, it's only for JCPenny or Carson Pirie Scot. -The food court options are pretty gross. If you're a healthy eater, good luck finding something good to eat here while you shop. There's lots of greasy fast food, and not even a good variety of greasy fast food. -The mall doesn't feel particularly safe. When I shop at Oak Brook or Old Orchard, I feel completely at ease and I am relaxed in my shopping mode. At North Riverside Mall, that's not the case. I feel more on edge when I shop here. What I do like: -The prices. If there's something I actually do want to buy at this mall, then it's comforting to know that I can buy it cheaper here than elsewhere. Overall, I tend to avoid this mall. I'll come here if I'm in a pinch, because it's closer than the other malls. But to do my clothing shopping, I definitely shop elsewhere! read more

I can not tell a lie. North Riverside has become a regular stomping ground for me. it's about a 10 minute drive from Oak Park, so I like to kill time there while my son is in school. They've made major, major renovations here. They've put in a play area for kids and also a pay to ride choo choo train. Many of the stores have also undergone a face lift. I am finding that this is the absolute best mall to shop for deals. The stuff I like isn't necessarily what's hip to most of the customers here...their loss is my gain. Cheap, cheap! read more

Yes, there are a lot of teens/families/loud kids/strollers during the weekends, but I have never noticed the things that other people write about here in all my years. This mall is a disaster. The last time I went, a fight broke out between a few men at the food court. They knocked over a few tables and chairs near us. Not cool. Unique mall....without sounding like a pretentious snob..Ill just say that unless you're into the gym shoe casual look...you will feel out of place at this mall...the mall does cater to a particular demographic..so dont come here looking for Banana Republic..Abercrombie Fitch type clothing. this mall has one of the biggest food court options I've been too and although its mostly all fast food type places...you will find something to eat among the many options. I came here mostly out of boredom on a cold day to distract my young kids... I can see how a person can give it one star, and to a degree i would too, but I think three is really about fair due to it's function. Though I am tempted to say it deserves about 2 and 1/2. This mall really isn't great or anything. In the past, it used to have a gang problem. Gangbangers on the west side caught wind of the fact that it is easy to get to with public transportation, and then the Hispanic gangs in Cicero figured that they're close by. It's been cleaned up a bit, but the clientele can still be rude, pushy, or shady. They also can't drive very well, which makes the parking lot an adventure. While i never go unless i really need to and I will avoid going as long as possible, I will give it two and a half or three stars because it does have a lot of things that you can use. There are way too many clothing stores that are too similar, but you also have a GNC, Radio Shack, and a book store. There's a Steve and Barry's, TJ MAxx, JC Penny, Game Stop, and a Sears. There's also a decent food court. Then you have an outdoor portion with a Best Buy, Burlington Coat Factory and a strip mall. It's also right next to the Cermak Plaza in Berwyn with Circuit City and Walgreen's. So overall it is a functional place to go if you need to, or if you can't afford or don't have access to a more upscale mall like Oak Brook, Woodfield, or Yorktown. I don't really know how to describe this mall. It's pretty bad. We went on a Saturday afternoon in November so I don't think it's really Holiday shopping season yet. It was packed and let me tell you, its tough to navigate in this mall with a stroller. The mall-goers are not making any concessions for strollers. The absolute worst thing about this mall is the lack of hand sanitizers. The kids play area had zero point zero hand sanitizers. I've been to a lot of kids play areas in the last few years and they all have sanitizing stations. Only reason I gave a 4 is because it's close to my home & I'm ALWAYS in here! I get my nails done at Lee nails so every 2-3wks I visit for that. When I need a quick outfit, shoe, or shirt I hit this mall. They don't have any high end stores (Nordstrom's, Macy's, Saks, Etc) but they have a few boutiques that I like (Mister Shop, Fetish, & a candy store).
