**I made this account just so I can stay anonymous.** I would like to start out by saying I have been going to this dental office for years without having a bad experience. I recently went in to get some fillings filled, and it was a bad experience. I had one of their newer doctors working on me. Don't ask me which one because I have no idea. She never introduced herself to me and I had never seen her before. During the procedure the doctor kept calling me "Sweetie" like I was five. I'm a grown woman, probably not much younger than she is, and it made me very uncomfortable. Why was it she couldn't have called me by my name? I'm not a child you need to sweet talk to. She also kept telling me to relax even though I was relaxed. But her constantly telling me to relax wasn't making me relaxed. She commented that I was "now relaxed" because I wasn't salivating anymore. I was not salivating because I was nervous, I was salivating because my mouth was open. It's also a known fact you salivate more when you drink lots of water, like I do. She also seemed to get annoyed that I didn't have my mouth open to her liking. She would comment that there's no need to help her. I'm laying in a chair with my mouth open. I was literally thinking what do you want from me? The doctor had water continuously spraying in my mouth. The water would then go straight to the back of my throat and I felt like I was drowning. When she finished working on one tooth, she told me to close my mouth to suction. I immediately sat up and almost gagged. The doctor acted annoyed and told me it's okay to swallow while she's working on the teeth. It's easier said than done while you're laying down with your mouth open. So for the rest of the procedure she'd say "You're not going to choke. Just swallow." Personally I think this doctor lacked interpersonal skills. If this was my first time at this dental office, I would not be back. I actually might not be back. This doctor probably graduated from college within the past year or so. I can only assume that because she wore a college hoody, which I found to be very unprofessional and unhygienic as well. Did she do a decent job on the fillings? Sure. I'm not having any issues. But how she treated me throughout the procedure I did not appreciate. It made me very uncomfortable. I wish I had spoken up, but I just wanted it all to be done. read more

I've been going to this office for over 15 years now. Dr. Fong has replaced a few of my old silver fillings and has been extremely patient with me and my very nitpicky ortho/teeth straightening requests. She listens, goes above and beyond, and is very easy going/approachable. The other dentist, Dr. Chu-Hyland, has done extractions, implants, and periodontal treatment on some of my family. (Luckily, I never needed any of that!) Her attention to detail and quality of work is that of which any patient would want. Between the 2 doctors, you just can't go wrong. They consult and treatment plan together, as needed, and are backed up with their right-hand assistants (Leslie and Hanifah). The flow, trust, and Dr/Asst comradarie is evident; it makes every visit pleasant. Top that with hygienists and front desk who are informative and complimentary to the core staff, no need to look anywhere else! Coming into this office after having poor dental hygiene..I am a recent college student and I was always going to a million of dentists.. and to find the time to find treatment being a full-time student and worked full time took a toll on my dental health. So I knew I needed a lot of work done.. I was referred by a family member. I loved my first experience here, I love how Dr. Chu first just sits and listen and evaluates my dental hygiene and first educates me in dental hygiene and just brings the ultimate truth! I needed it, a reality check! She created a treatment plan for me right away. I've had a few appointments already and I love the results I am getting. She doesn't just do quick fixes, she just doesn't put a bandaid on a problem and walk away from it. She's helping me build a solid foundation so that I will have better lifelong dental health. I definitely trust that Dr. Chu knows what she's doing, she's very knowledgeable and is always open to answering questions! I feel like she works with purpose, she has values! She is amazing in what she does. I've been to many dentist and she is definitely my favorite so far. I went there because part of my tooth chipped and these people wanted to extract my tooth right on the spot!!! Something in the pit of my stomach told me that I needed to search for a second opinion, which I did and that dentist did not understand why Northshore felt that was even necessary. The new dentist rebuilt the part of the tooth that chipped and crowned it! Well, I know why they wanted to extract the tooth! M-O-N-E-Y!! They didn't offer any alternative to extraction and then even fitted me for a new tooth. The treatment plan cost was astronomical and the whole experience just didn't sit well with me. If you are just going for routine cleanings and exams, this place might be ok, but if you have more serious issues, I suggest calling Dr. Benjamin Rosales' office in Pinole. He is great and will only do what is absolutely necessary. In my opinion a good dentist does what is best for the patient and not their bottom line! Words cannot express how happy I am with the level of service that I receive from the entire staff at North Shore Dental. I work in hospitality and you never find me without a smile. Only problem was, I would never show my teeth due to stains and cavities that I had gotten from having braces for 6 years. I was so depressed because I LOVE to smile but was embarrassed of the way my front teeth looked. Needless to say, I have the largest smile in the building now thanks to Dr. Chu!! She was not able to only remove the stains but made my teeth look perfect! She patiently performed a miracle and I can't thank her enough. I've been to a few dental offices and nothing compares to North Shore. The office is very neat and clean and as I said before the staff is AMAZING! I will get right to the point here on my cavity fill experience. Dentist Hyland and assistant walk into the room. Hello, Hi. The assistant gives me some shades to keep the light out of my eye's : ) then says open! I open my mouth so she can put the numbing gel on and around my tooth. Immediately the dentist Dr. Hyland goes in with the needle and starts poking me several times. Umm OUCH! She tells me to raise my hand if I feel Pain...HAND WAS RAISED! She then says " ARE YOU FEELING PRESSURE, or PAIN...In my mind I'm like how am I supposed to answer you with a suction tube, a rubber jaw holder and your mirror inside my mouth???? So I mumble out my words, that I could not even understand as I'm thinking, I'm feeling discomfort period!!! Sooo, Dr. Hyland continues to drill away frequently commenting on how much decay my tooth had under it to her assistant. while pinching my tongue and Cheek while rushing like she had to take a crap or something! She then hands me a mirror and shows me my now hollowed out tooth and tells me that it looks cracked, and says I may need to be removed if it completely fractures! I'm like with all the Drilling, Clinging and Clacking of her tools inside my mouth, I'm thinking did she crack it?? Only God knows. Lastly she's done...Praise the Lawd! Then gets up and immediately walks out the room, to either take that crap, or get to another appointment $$$. Then her assistant quickly tries to call her back due to the tooth making my jaw uneven, but could not, as she ran out the room so quickly. Her assistant then tells me to hold the suction, as she grabs the drill file and begins grinding down my tooth! In my mind I'm thinking" I really hope this lady knows what she is doing", as I have NEVER had an assistant grab the tools and get busy on my teeth!!! The assistant actually did an ok job with filing my filling down!! Then I get up, proceeded to the front desk, to pay the $58.20 co-payment, that I was made aware of before this appointment. I pay. Then the smiling Latina receptionist: ) that never puts that dam Calculator down, says to me " Ohh I'm sorry John, but the Doctor told me she added a "SHIELD" in between your tooth and that's another $35.00" I come from the street, so Game recognize Game, and this Dentist is PIMPIN, Watch your "grills"(teeth) folks cause North Shore Dental is out for your Money!! They have fooled many from what I hear, but these people did not fool me.... Me or my Family will not be back...... read more

Going to the dentist for dental work is typically something that is unpleasant. That was not my experience having a crown replaced on my left front tooth by Dr. Yvonne Chu Hyland. My experience was the best I had ever had with dental work. The staff was professional and pleasant. Dr. Chu Hyland was the same. The only pain I felt was the small prick of the needle with the administration of novocaine. Her manner and care were superb. She told me what to expect while she was removing my damaged crown. She was aware of my comfort and her touch was firm yet gentle as she worked to release the old crown from the stub of a tooth it was cemented to. Her assistant was excellent at preparing the temporary, taking the time to shape it just right to match. I appreciated all the time and attention I was giving to get the work done. read more

I am a RN and have worked with a multitude of practitioners during my professional career and I am very particular when judging a practitioner's level of expertise and professionalism. Dr. Chu and Dr. Fong are very dedicated to their profession which can be seen in their patient and friendly demeanors when providing care. I have had cleanings, fillings placed/replaced, root canals, crowns, and teeth extractions from Dr. Chu and have never once had any issues. This review is based on my husband's experience. He was referred to this office for invisalign by a coworker and it was conveniently close to our precious home. Dr. Fong told my husband he was a candidate for invisalign and so my husband started treatment. About half way through the treatment we had moved. We found an orthodontic office to transfer his treatment. The office charged a fee to transfer his records, which I guess was fine. Come to find out, the specialist at the new office told my husband that he wasn't a candidate for invisalign and shouldn't have been on this type of orthodontia in the first place. We went through months trying to get a partial refund from Northshore Dental and even involved the insurance company. Adrianna, the office manager was very pleasant, I admit. So, bottom line, be cautious about getting invisalign here at this office because they may just tell you that you are a candidate when in fact you're not. They will tell you that they "don't guarantee results." In fact, you're safer at seeing a specialist instead. Maybe that was our initial mistake. read more
