Today there was a lot of frustration with this office, the inconsistent with documentation. Let me share the front desk clerk Sandra Kennedy was truly unhelpful, she gave me two forms to updated, I've requested the previous ones as she kept giving me one form not willing to give me both to complete at once. As I asked her am I updating my signature and date since nothing changed. She informed me the full form, I let her know this has not happened- so I requested the original one when I started to get an idea of why am I doing this now. She then goes to say you don't have to do the appointment today (clearly I don't- but I am here) I asked for someone else, (manager) she said she will contact him and let him know (ugh what, no share his information so I can express this information on why you need training) hopefully this manager reads this, but your staff member (Sandra) needs training on active listening. As my frustration came about, you can hear in my tone I am over trying to rephrase my question and not getting a clear answer with understanding. Gladly, Esmeralda stepped in calmly to help with an updated medical/ history form for me to update my address, phone number, date and signature. I'll like to add, Sandra gets training with learning the forms at the facility to avoid irritating clients because that was an easy fix. My final request from my visit today is can this form be sent digitally when we confirm appointments so that it will be complete before hand and confirm at check in? In addition to this, I'll like to add the timing was well. We were able to be seen quickly after my irritating conversation with the desk clerk Sandra and the rotating Dr. hopefully the manager calls to discuss this incident since Sandra shared that she will disclose it to him. read more

I have never been to a dental office that when you come 5 - 10 minutes late they get pushed off and when you come early they make you wait. Appointment is at 2pm didn't get called until 2:25pm and that was only for x-ray. Then we had to wait again for another 35 mins for her to get treated! The waiting time is ridiculous! Thank goodness they have a TV to keep us somewhat entertain. The facility is clean enough but it is cold! The staff don't smile that often either. This is not my first time here, and I can't say it has improved in the last two years. Don't take your kids to this place! They put crowns on 2 of my sons front teeth and they placed the crowns so tight that his baby teeth won't fall out and his adult teeth are growing behind the crowns and they won't do anything about it, even though it's their fault. The office manager is rude and not helpful at all because she wouldn't let the dentist look at him without me paying! Although we paid them thousands of dollars to do the crowns. Don't go here! What children's dentistry doesn't allow a parent or grandparent to be in the room with their child! AVOID THIS PLACE!!!! My daughter was seen in March for x-rays. She was experiencing pain when brushing. They scheduled an appt for May to fill cavity! When I arrived to the appt in May I was told they tried to contact me but was unable to reach me and had to cancel. They rescheduled for July. I told them she was still having pain so they put her on a waiting list which didn't help. Today her appt was @ 10 am we arrived at 9:50 after waiting for an hour and 10 mins I asked how long was the wait time. I was told she was next. After waiting another 40 mins we left! This was the only place I could find with our insurance that would take a child under two. I called multiple times and left multiple messages and never got an answer or call back. By chance a girlfriend was over and she got an appointment confirmation call for her kid and SHE set up my first appointment with them for my kid on the same call. We arrived early. There was not a single available seat. Besides a tv, and two baby toys, there was no entertainment such as books for the kids. I pulled out my own books to read to my child and had a group of littles came round to listen. When we were finally called back what I saw was pandemonium. All the dental chairs are lined up in a row. There's not even a flimsy folding partition to help with your childs privacy. I watched the Dr. berate a mother a few chairs over for giving her child a bottle. I was mortified for the woman. Kids were crying. Kids were screaming. Bodies were moving everywhere. Finally we got to our chair. Then a screaming child was placed next to my 1 1/2 yr old (this was her first dental visit ever). Wanting my child to have a positive dental experience such as the one I grew up with, I told the assistants to take care of the screamer first and continued to calmly read to my child. Finally the Dr came to check my kids teeth, and she YELLED at me! She told me I needed to STOP GIVING MY BABY A BOTTLE AT NIGHT! I had to inform her TWICE that my baby DOES NOT take a bottle! Then I told her I breastfeed. She then yelled at me instead for breastfeeding! She specifically told me there "is no purpose for breastfeeding after 1 year" and that "there is no nutritional value after 1 year". She then told me she "thinks" my kid has 4 cavities but isn't sure because she couldn't get a good look. She looked in my kids mouth for no longer than 5 seconds. My kid was starting to clamp up because she was watching a woman doctor yelling at her mommy, while other kids around her were crying and/or screaming. WHO and UNICEF recommends women breastfeed until at least the age of TWO. There are no studies that prove there is no nutritional value when breastfeeding after the age of one. Scientists are actually saying there might be and that NOT ENOUGH RESEARCH ON BREASTFEEDING HAS BEEN DONE! Our general practitioner loves that we're still breastfeeding and encourages it! It is MY business if I breastfeed and for how long I choose to do so. You as a dentist should be working WITH breastfeeding mothers and encouraging them (because it's *fk!ng* HARD) not slamming them down for our PERSONAL choice because of your own personal beliefs. After the Dr left the assistant came in to do the cleaning and polish. She had a shield over her mask, and another over her eyes/glasses some kind of scrub hanky in her hair....basically she was fully covered which I get because...hygene....but at least remove some before you just show up and start working on a baby! Everyone knows masks and covered faces scares little kids! Make eye contact with the child you're about to work on. Talk to them in a comforting voice. Let the little ones SEE your face then watch you cover it up. I felt lucky to get out of there without completely traumatizing my child! This location is extremely convenient for us, however I am now on the hunt for a new dentist. read more

If I could give this place ZERO stars, I would ! Like another yelper recently said this place is indeed a JOKE! I made this appt in November for 2 of my three kids. The appt was at 1pm. They told me to come at 12:30 to sign paperwork. I did and the lights were off. No one was there. I called and was directed to the call center and they couldn't reach anyone either. I waited 20 minutes in the rain and went back to the door and saw a lady with dark hair and a red shirt sitting at the front desk. She saw me and I saw her and she got up and went in the back never to be seen again. I thought she was going to come around a wall to open the door but I never saw her again. There was a dim light in the hallway that was on and when I went back to the other window it was all of a sudden turned off. I called again and got directed to the call center and spoke to someone else who was still unable to reach anyone. After all the appt confirmation text messages I got, not once did they send me a cancellation or a message to reschedule. For whatever reason. We made an appointment to see Dr. Alexander, DoS. Turns out it's actually Dr. Alexander Corporation, aka Youthful Tooth, which is a dental sweat shop, herding poor kids through their dental production line to squeeze as much Denti-Cal money out of them as they can get. The lobby was jammed with people waiting to be seen. The receptionists were rude, unhelpful and hostile. They handed me a clipboard with a bunch of suspect paperwork to fill out, asking for irrelevant information such as my marital status and the name, address and phone number of a neighbor! Really?! When we were finally brought into the back for x-rays and an examination, I took a few pictures of my daughter (gotta have pics of her first dentist visit) but was told I couldn't take any pictures of my daughter, because it was a liability issue. Really?! A liability issue?! I'd like to know how me taking pictures of my own daughter is a liability issue for Youthful Tooth. Next some lady in a white coat, so I'm supposed to assume she is a DDS because she's wearing a white coat, shows me an x-ray and says my daughter has a cavity, which we already knew about. Then instead of simply filling the cavity, she tells me they'll have to perform a root canal and make a crown, which would require putting my daughter under anesthesia twice. I said. "Are you serious? You want to put a four year old kid under anesthesia, twice to perform a root canal and a crown, on a baby tooth?!" You know, because obviously Youthful Tooth can get a lot more money from Denti-Cal for performing a root canal and a crown rather than just filling a cavity on a baby tooth that is going to fall out anyway! Things didn't get any better back in the lobby when I asked for copies of the paperwork I signed, which state that I acknowledge I received copies, but I was not given copies, and when I asked for copies the receptionist glared at me like I had said something vulgar. She told me they don't give out copies of paperwork, except to a dentist. I said I want copies because the forms state that I acknowledge I received copies, and I have a right to have a copy of anything I signed, and I want copies to show my daughter's mom, and the obtuse receptionist says, "Is her mother a dentist?" I said, No, she's my wife, and I want copies of the paperwork I signed so I can show it to her." The receptionist says, "Hold on." Then goes in back again. When she returns a few minutes later she ignores me, so I ask, "Are you making copies of my paperwork for me?" She say, "Let me check." Then disappears into the back again. After about five minutes someone else comes out, a black woman, and she says, "We normally don't give out copies of any paperwork." So I say, "The paperwork I signed states that I have been given copies." And she says, "Well, normally there is a charge for any copies we make." So I said, "Which is it? Normally you don't give out copies of the paperwork people sign, or normally you charge them for copies, which they have a right to, of the paperwork they signed? Never mind, you people are unbelievable." As in all of you people that work in this dental sweat shop shamelessly squeezing as much Denti-Cal money out of poor people are unbelievable. So, I will be finding a real dentist for my daughter, and soon Youthful Tooth will be sending copies of all my paperwork, and x-rays and everything else to that dentist, because I will never make the mistake of bringing my daughter back to Youthful Tooth again. Haven't been here in over 2 years. Things are drastically different. There is a waiting room that sits approximately 20 yet the waiting area is filled with twice that. People standing, waiting outside. Called us in for x-ray after waiting 40 minuets only to send us back to the waiting area where we waited for another 30 minutes. The authorization form is completely in Spanish. When I asked for an English version, I was told that was the only form as the receptionist attempted to translate what I was authorizing. The staff is fairly friendly and the cleaning took about 5 minutes. But the wait is crazy. The dental hygienist did apologize so for that an extra star. read more

Their lobby is always full.....they run behind......and on top of that they schedule appointments and change the time without notifying you of the change. My seven year old son had an appointment for treatment today at 9 am. My mother called me at work at 11 am and told me that they hadn't called my son in and that she has been sitting in the lobby for 2 hours. As pissed off as I was, I called Youthful Tooth.....I mean Gentle Dental......no, Youthful Tooth to see why they hadn't called my son. The receptionist told me that he was scheduled to be seen at 11 am. I explained to her that when I scheduled the appointment a few weeks ago I scheduled the appointment for 9 am NOT 11 am, and because my mother has been sitting in the lobby for 2 hours I want to reschedule his appointment. This is literally the worst dental office with terrible customer service. We had an appointment cancelled the day of, they took almost three months to call back to even reschedule. My daughter was in pain so I had to schedule elsewhere, and when I tried to go back to this place (bc it's the only place nearby that would do the procedures we needed) they refused bc I went to a different office. The workers didn't care that she was in pain and were neglectful of my concerns and forgot that it was on them that the appointment was canceled to begin with. The reviews complaining about wait times are spot on. They are one of the only pediatric dentists in the area that accept Denti-Cal which probably is a factor in the overcrowding. We arrived 10 minutes before our appointment and it was at least 30 minutes before I was able to even get the new patient paperwork for my daughter. We got about halfway through Frozen (including 20 minutes of preview junk) before my daughter was called back for her appointment. I was really shocked at the high volume of patients being processed. I've never been in a dental office that was quite like this before. An x-ray tech was our first stop and then it was into a steady stream of patients being treated in a line of treatment chairs with dental hygienists as well as two dentists. The dental hygenist was wonderful -- friendly and good natured, she worked well with my daughter. The dentist was also affable. She recommended having some work done (fillings and a crown) on my daughter. That was fine by me. When I was consulted after we'd left the treatment area, I was told that the dentist had recommended conscious sedation. That seemed odd because I had told her that my 6 year old was, in general, just fine at the dentist so long as she had laughing gas. I was also told that I would NOT be allowed to be in the back with my daughter during the procedure and that as a safety precaution, patients under conscious sedation would be secured to prevent movement. I know my daughter and figured that a dentist visit where she is sedated, constrained and unable to see me would make her anxious rather than relaxed. I told them that I needed to talk about it with my husband. We went over our options and then I called back the next day to see if there was a way to do it without the conscious sedation. I was told that because it was in the recommendation, that no, it had to be done that way. I opted out. Between the wait and the inability to override the sedation (especially when I had been told that laughing gas alone was an option), I decided not to return. This whole experience really opened my eyes and not in a good way. I hope that there are other options for pediatric dentistry in the area for low-income families because despite the caring professionals, Youthful Tooth gives me a lot of cause for concern. read more

This place is a J-O-K-E!!!!! I only came here because we were referred to go here since my kids are only 3 & 5. We walk in and the T.V. is soooooooo loud you cant even hear the receptionist. We sit in the waiting room and try to fill out the paperwork. It smells of soiled diapers. On the form under the parent section, it asks if you (the parent) were breast fed? I dont remember...... that was over 30 years ago....... They finally call our name and we go to sit down. It turns out that my whole family has the same problem........ we grind our teeth in our sleep. WHATEVER!!!!! I know I don't, so does my wife. We both know our kids don't grind their teeth. Anyone who gives this place more than 1 star, clearly has friends in the inside. Due to the language barrier of the x-ray tech and my kid, he got frustrated that my kid didn't understand what he was asking so, he said (after 1 xray) "that's good enough". When the Dr. was going over the xrays with me she said "well your daughter wouldn't let us take xrays" no, no, no - don't blame MY kid - when I explained how it really went down, they did have someone else redo the xrays. Be warned...just because you have an appointment does not mean you will be seen at the time - they go by their sign in sheet so, basically, it's 1st come, 1st serve. Even though the people are (for the most part) pleasant they really don't care how long we wait. I don't think they even care about the complaints. I took my nephew here before when they were located in the same plaza but on the other end. Honestly, I don't remember it being TOO bad but I know the lady cleaning his teeth was rough and not very kind. I mean come on, you know kids are terrified of the dentist! Please have some patience with them! I took my neice here today. Her appointment was at 11:45AM. We got there early around 11:30. We did not get called back for xrays until about 1PM. Did not get back for her exam and cleaning until 2:15. The wait is just ridiculous. I mean come on, if you know this is a probably then you should do something about it. Doctor tried to force 2 years to see inside mouth instead of persuading and making child happy. And because child resisted , doctor didn't see anything and tried to schedule 3 month appointment for fluoride treatment that is due on December . The front lady scheduled me 7 months appointment ignoring doctors note. Glad I noticed it and said she is due for fluoride in 3 months . If you want to schedule 7 months far, do fluoride today . She said "insurance does not cover it" . And made 4 months appointment instead of 3 months . Know why ? It's January next year and they claim insurance money for next year cycle . Very bad ethics . I used to like this place a lot better, but I think since COVID they changed ownership. They used to let one adult go back with our kid and now they refuse to and their reason is that it's better if the kids get used to going by themselves. My daughter didn't like it and I should have been allowed back in the office with my daughter. They also kicked my husband out of the waiting area because only one parent is allowed in waiting area. Then after they come out with my daughter ( who had tears for the first time from a dentist visit) and told me that they are making an appointment in a month to pull her loose tooth that was already almost about to come out and said that the adult tooth isn't coming in yet underneath it but they want to pull it to make room. Is this something new? My dentist never did that. Her tooth came out on it's own, but I kind of felt like they only wanted to pull the tooth for a payout ( I don't know much about how it works but that just didn't feel right to me). They were so kind to my son. They fixed all his teeth at once and made sure he was comfortable. They explained everything to me and made SURE I was comfortable while I was waiting for him. If I could give this place zero stars I would. My husband took our son in today due to him having pain on a tooth. Turns out he needs it removed. I told him to take the soonest appointment. When he came home he told me the soonest is I'm 3 weeks!!!! My son is in pain and til then he has take medication everyday!! To me that is not right. So I called right away to tell them I did not like that he has to wait so long when he is in pain. A girl by the name of Tati? Answered. Rude as hell. Due to having medi- cal and unable to afford private dental insurance, I had brought my 5 year old daughter here for an appointment. When I made the appointment, which was in the afternoon. The waiting room was empty, pleasant & staff was friendly. My daughter's appointment was at 11AM on Wed, I got to the office at 10:52, it was packed. Children screaming, borderline chaotic. I asked the receptionist if my daughter would be seen on time, I received no response. I was given a packet of paperwork to fill out. I turned all the papers in and my daughter & I sat down near the back. They had a television mounted on the wall playing Toy Story. When we sat the down the movie was at the part where Woody throws the magic 8 ball behind the desk & knocks Buzz out the window. By the time my Big Girl was called, the movie was at the part where Buzz breaks his arm trying to fly. I of course go with her but I am informed that I can not accompany her. She is getting x-rayed & will be out within minutes. O.. K The movie had been over for a good 10 minutes by the time E was called again. Most of the waiting room was emptied out by then. It was past noon. I was hungry, and baby #2 was kicking the hell out of me. The dentist was pleasant, she introduced herself and let me know the Big Girl had no cavities and her teeth/gums are healthy. (YAY) The assistant came, introduced herself and cleaned E's teeth. We were told to come back within 6 months for a check up. As of now, I have an appointment in place. However, I will continue to look around for another office that accepts medi-cal/denti-cal. By the time we left, it was After 1pm. I understand things happen, but what is the point of making an appointment? I am glad I didn't arrive at 10:30, I have a feeling I would of waited longer read more

This place is PATHETIC. I tried calling for NEW patient appointments for myself and my husband. After over a week, I didn't ever get a return call from anyone. Pretty poor way of doing business, without even being in the door, they've already lost 2 NEW patients. I wouldn't come here now, if they gave me free services. No thanks! I'm writing this as i'm sitting here in the waiting room. I've been waiting for over an hour now. My appointment was at 9:15 it's 10:20 now and nothing. It's ridiculous how many people are in here, there's not enough chairs for everyone to sit. I don't think they should book so many patients if they are going to get behind like this. Also a few months ago I remember I tried making an appointment and when I called no answer, I called again a little later there was an answer and then they hung up, I kept calling and no anawer for a while. Horrible place! Dont tramatize your children by bringing them here! The receptionist are rude and rest of the staff are inexperienced.

If I could give Zero stars I would. They have the most unprofessional staff ever. The manager here is a joke. And I do not trust the dentist's judgment on treatment. Please do not waste your time and money here. Do yourself a big favor and find another dental office that respects you. read more

I'm going to have to agree with everyone here. I traveled all the way from San Francisco hoping I would get better care from a "DENTIST" And ended up waiting 2 hours just to see the dentist for 15 minutes. this was after I waited an additional 15-20mins in the waiting room after x-rays were taken... They are nice (that is only why I am giving them an extra star) After all the wait and chit chat w/ the Dentist...I got my teeth cleaned. I was very disappointed, because the lady that did my so called cleaning was not a dental higenist. she was a dental assistant that only flossed my molars, then proceeded to polish my teeth??? If you ask me, that was far from a dental cleaning procedure.... what happened to scaling? scraping off 2 years worth of plaque and tartar... After I saw the insurance payment of almost $300 dollars, for work that was terrible, I decided to stay local.... read more

I'm looking for a new dental office and found all these bad reviews on Youthful Tooth. Validation of my gut feelings about my experience there. Right to the bottom line of it all, I did not have insurance when I started there and only paid cash "after a discount" (?maybe not). I paid $98 up front for two fillings and ended up rescheduling because there was no place to sit and the place was crawling with coughing and sneezing kids. After a return visit for the work, I received a bill for $98. I called the office with questions and was told that the $98 I gave them was for x-rays that my insurance didn't cover. That's not what I was told when I paid them. I knew nothing about x-rays. Then I was asked if I had other dental insurance and they would bill them and I wouldn't have to pay anything. I told them that they won't see me again, that I refuse to do business with people who don't communicate and are dishonest. I felt jerked around and lied to. They get zero stars from me, but this will not post unless I click at least one. Dee read more
