Waitress NOT very good first of all. Second, they have a shrimp burger with Tator tots on lunch menu as lunch special. First the waitress should NOT be waitressing. POOR ATTITIDE AND PEOPLE Skills. Then, I ordered the shrimp burger and when it came, there were fries (NO TATOR TOTS) and she waits until then to tell us they have no tartar sauce only mayo. I am guessing they made a sweep of their freezer and decided to serve these items for lunch. SO, anyway, the shrimp burger was FULL OF FILLERS and not very good and no tartar sauce and fries. Sunday at noon - waited 30 minutes for a table, then almost a full hour for four simple orders. Waitress was very apologetic but clearly this was beyond her control. Watched a customer arrive 15 minutes after our group (joined an existing group) and was served quickly. Food was ok at best - my turkey sandwich was very salty but decent. No restaurant that bills itself as a breakfast joint should take an hour to put out scrambled eggs and pancakes. Servers were all very busy - this appears to be a kitchen issue. Great place to go for breakfast! The food was amazing and the staff is very friendly and welcoming. This is the best place in GF to get pancake and they have ham which was a nice option. Nice clean diner. I got the beef special for 8.50 which included beef roast, a side of potatoes, green beans and a soup/salad/coleslaw. The soup was cream of potato. The food was decent but nothing to write home about. The service on the other hand could use a lot of improvement. I had to initiate the conversation with the waitress every time. I guess she didn't need a tip? I can understand if it was busy but I was the only paying customer in there. You have to pay at the counter but I sat there for 10 min after I finished my food before I had to get up to ask for a to go container....come on man... Gluten Free haters - I asked the first server for what I could have for breakfast that is gluten free - she almost laughed at me and said "I don't know what that is". I asked her to check with the kitchen - she never came back. The server who was actually serving our table came and I asked her. She said she didn't know but I convinced her to check with the kitchen. She came back and said they have nothing Gluten Free. I ordered two medium eggs which were uncooked but okay. If I could give (-5) I would. My Father in law has brought us and his entire huge family here whenever we were in town at the old location for as long as I can remember. So when it moved we were excited to go.. But he actually warned us it wasn't the same.. in spite of his warning we still went. It is beautiful inside and looks great! We were seated rather quickly.. but then it all went down hill.. we had immediately ordered.. basic easy breakfast food. .. ONE HOUR LATER.. I do not lie.. they hasn't even bother to start our food.. the people before and after us had eaten and left., when we asked about it .. they said, " I don't know what you ordered but It's your fault for ordering food that took longer." We literally ordered eggs and American Fries (which they chose not to serve us .. instead we got uncooked hash browns.. but after waiting over 1.5 hrs to eat we were starving and still ate and paid.. What did the do to try to make up?? Did they apologize? NOT really . that gave us stale cold disgusting donuts we never asked for. a token 25% off discount and told us it was OUR FAULT. Well to be honest.. it was for going there! what would of made me not mad? Maybe an We're so sorry.. let us cover your coffee.. not a We're busy and It's your fault for daring to order?? We had a horrible experience this past fal. Waited 1.5 hours after entering an order and no food was entered. Went back to give the benefit of a doubt.....Unfortunately, more of the same. Waited close to half an hour...no greeting from staff. Went up to the bar to get drinks...3 staff members went behind the bar...again no service. A simple but delicious diner. I've never gotten anything but breakfast from North Side, but the breakfast is wonderful. Everything I've ordered has always been cooked exactly as I like it, and the portions are more than fair (if anything, they're too big). As with many diners, the coffee can taste a bit watered down sometimes, but that's a minor gripe. The wait staff has always been great to me. I like service where the wait staff is there when I have a need but leaves me be when I'm obviously doing fine, and my experience with the waitresses at North Side has been just that. I think my favorite part about this place, though, is how it reminds me of home. My grandpa loves diners, and we used to stop by one frequently when I was younger. The atmosphere, food, and even the crowd remind me of those days. read more

Best place for home cooking! I love going to Northside Cafe when I visit my Dad (I live in Texas). The owner is friendly and always walks around and talks to everyone. I'm amazed that she runs that place all on her own! She even made my son a homemade rhubarb pie when we visited earlier this month. read more

Six of us ate there last night. I had the Chicken Fried Steak dinner and left half of it uneaten. The mashed potatoes had so many lumps that the lumps had lumps. The CFS had a greasy breading covering meat that wasn't the best. No vegetable on the plate other than a pitiful slice of tomato. It did come with a side salad that was good. The restaurant was nearly empty but we were there around 5 pm which might be early. We were also seated in the side room because they had mopped the floors. This is a typical local diner type place. I like to come here for breakfast. I haven't had lunch or dinner here yet... The omelets and pancakes are really good. Word to the wise, get your toast not buttered if you don't want it soggy from the amount of butter. The service is always quick and friendly & its cheap! Three stars is for consistency of blandness that you get in a place like this. That said, there's something to be said for Lutheran comfort food when you're really craving it. They back the Bland Inc truck up to the back and fill the pantry every week and serve it up to the weekend crowd. Put it this way, the first item on the menu is liver and onions. Gaaaaaawd. An impressive diner! I came here for lunch, though breakfast is served all day. I didn't try the breakfast selections, but they did look good and the portions looked big. Anyway, the selection of soups could be better but everything else passes muster! The shrimp burger is delicious and is a welcome change from the typical beef hamburgers that's a staple of diners. What's more is that they have a superb selection of pies for dessert. You can't go wrong with the chocolate cream pie, but if that's not your thing, there's other pies like pumpkin, rhubarb, and sour cream raisin. usual dingy breakfast spot you'll find in grand forks. i think part of the ceiling was missing. i had the country fried steak, the gravy was below average. the breakfast was huge. the orange juice is not fresh squeezed (normal for Grand Forks). Me and my boyfriend ate here on March 6 and the food was horrible! We both got American fries with our meal, they served us what looked and tasted like pan seared rotten potatoes. I ordered an omelette and it was undercooked. Everything was cold on top of it. I'm never going back. He seems to think they served us poorly because he's black but I believe it was just a poor choice of a restaurant that morning. The odd thing is, the restaurant was packed!
