The class was held at her home, which made for a very comfortable and welcoming classroom environment. She also had a great amount of personal learning materials and examples that really helped bring the information to life. I honestly can't say enough good things about the experience. She clearly has built a strong following over the years, and after attending the class it's easy to see why. She's friendly, helpful, and a true wealth of information. The fish cleaning area and sink were spotless. Trash on the ground or in the water was a rare sight to see. For $58 a night, it was a great value. I had a nice view of the lake, too. After I checked-in and set up the campsite, with my tent, and a small camping table, I rented a rowboat for $25, good for five hours, so that I could go fishing. The walk between the campground and boat rental dock is about 25 minutes each way if you're using the shorter route. The lake itself is very clean. Though I would not drink the water from Lake Jennings without a water filter, out of curiosity, I did put some of Lake Jennings' water into an empty water bottle to see how clear the water is. To my surprise, the water is completely clear! While I was sitting in the rowboat, I noticed lots of different birds--bluebirds, coots, ducks, geese, grebes, hawks, herons, hummingbirds, osprey, sparrows, vultures, woodpeckers, a few others I wasn't sure what they were. Anyway, after the first hour of having my rod cast, I didn't think I would catch anything and began to lose hope. However, as the afternoon started to cool, under the mature trees, off the shoreline, just opposite west of the rental dock, my fishing line started to pull. I quickly reeled the line in and realized that this was a pretty big fish. I dipped my net into the water, to get the fish into the boat. I used my handheld fish scale and the catfish weighed just over eight pounds!! (I used homemade bait made up of oatmeal and fresh garlic, rolled up in a peanut butter ball, that I prepared the night before. Also, the line was about 15 feet under water.) After I caught the one fish, I returned the boat, and went back to the campsite to clean and cook it. I cooked the fish using a portable camping grill grate--with a bit of olive oil, a liberal amount of fresh herbs (oregano, parsley, thyme, diced garlic, and Hungarian sweet paprika), and lemon--over an open fire, in the fire ring, that they have in each campsite. I used Lucela mesquite charcoal to fuel the campfire. The catfish was high quality and delicious--easily the best catfish that I have tasted, in my life, to date. At night, the campground was completely quiet, even on a weekend night. The night sky was nice, too. However, the lake's management is strict about having all campfires extinguished by 11:00 PM. The next morning, I had planned to cook breakfast, but decided to sleep in. At about 11:30 AM, I checked out. Checkout time is before 12:00 PM (noon). Overall, this was a perfect little one-night trip. Hopefully, I will return in the future. If I ever do come back, I'll probably make it a two-night trip, so that I can explore more of the lake, and maybe aim to catch a crappie, sunfish, or trout.

Most of the sites are completely barren with dead grass and bushes, and the view is primarily dead-brush-covered hills with the occasional view of the city below. The campsites are raised on a hill so the lake is barely visible. Even if it is, you are not allowed to interact with it except for fishing, so there is hardly a point. The sun relentlessly beats down on the ground, with the only shade being from sparse trees. The only reason this is not a zero star review (besides the app not allowing it) is for the staff, who were polite and very helpful. Never again.

I recently traveled to Cusco, Peru for my summer vacation (June 28 - July 16) with the intention of…read moreexploring Cusco city and trekking to Machu Picchu. I feel incredibly fortunate to have found Killa Expeditions to support the planning and execution of every aspect of my trip! Initially, I wanted to take the 4-day Inka trek to Machu Picchu. Despite my attempts to make a reservation approximately 6 months prior to my scheduled trip, all of the permits for the 4-day Inka trek to Machu Picchu were committed and there was no availability during my timeframe. Thankfully, one of the owners of Killa Expeditions, Nicole, listened to the expectations that I had for my trip and she was able to tailor my trip to meet and even exceed my original expectations. She recommended a 2-day Inka trek to Machu Picchu along with a 2-day trek to the Rainbow Mountain and several city tours (the Cusco Ruins tour and Sacred Valley tour). I was excited about the prospect of the Rainbow Mountain trek, although I was also nervous as to whether I had the physical fitness level to complete a trek at that level of altitude and difficulty (moderate-hard). Nicole heard my concerns and assured me that I would be well taken care of on the trek and that an emergency horse would be available if I was not able to complete my trek on foot. In the planning of my trip, Nicole always made herself available (by phone and/or email) to ensure that all of the details of my trip including tours, hotel reservations, food preferences, etc. were secured in advance. Additionally, I cannot speak more highly about my experience with Killa Expeditions throughout my stay in Cusco, Peru. Their staff arranged for my pick-up and drop-off at the Cusco airport. The office manager, Nayra, was always available for questions and to hear concerns, and ensured that every aspect of the planned excursions were well executed. In advance of all guided treks (Inka and Rainbow), a meeting was arranged between the guide and myself (and any other participants) to discuss the aspects of each trek and to answer any questions or address any concerns I/we might have had. All of tour guides provided by Killa Expeditions (including Efrain, Orlando, Aldo, and Frank) were highly knowledgeable, experienced, and had excellent communication skills in both English and Spanish. I was always made to feel very safe on the treks and the guides encouraged me to complete the treks at my own pace and ability level. I was constantly reminded that it was my vacation and I should always make sure that I was enjoying my experience to the fullest. Many of the excursions included the provision of ample food, including snacks and meals, and individual food preferences and dietary restrictions are taken into account. Killa Expeditions also ensures that you are informed of what will be needed for each excursion, including what you should be sure to bring and what their company would provide. No detail was too small and I was never unsure as to what to expect from my excursions. I cannot imagine that other trekking companies in Peru can compete with the quality of individualized service provided by Killa Expeditions. As a small, family owned and operated business it is clear that their staff is invested in making sure that each person's experience meets and/or exceeds expectations. Killa clearly loves and respects the culture, history, and landscape of Peru, and works to ensure that their clients share a similar feeling during their travels and excursions. I was supposed to go out on the Dominator, but the boat was switched to the Diawa Pacific due to an…read moreillness from the Dominator's captain. H&M informed me the day before my trip. I arrived at 7pm for a 9pm departure. I was greeted by the crew and captain. There were only 14 of us slated to go on the 1.5 trip after the big bluefin at the outer banks. After boarding the vessel, the crew helped stow gear, informed everyone to sign the manifest, choose a bunk, and then get the tackle ready for the next day's adventure. The brief seminar concluded and everyone proceeded to articulate his own tackle according to the crew's recommendations. The line and hook sizes were determined with the actual bait in mind. Fish the bait size, not the hook size seemed to be an echoing theme throughout the trip. A good night's sleep was had by all as we arrived at the Cortez boat in flat calm and even greasy seas. Even though we were one of the last boats to arrive at the grounds, the captain quickly put us on jumping and active 20-80lb bluefin tuna. The crew chummed the area and soon the first angler yelled, "Fresh one," as the glint off of his gold Trinidad began to sing the song that all fishermen love to hear. A steady pick started to happen after the first fish was hooked. Most anglers were getting bit on the heavier line, but the fish seemed to be eerily shy of my 40 pound test line. Nary a bite happened that first drift. Bluefin are usually pickier than a 5 year old around broccoli. This day was no exception. I asked the crew for a bit of advice and they said to keep working and plugging away. Frustration started to set in as rent rod gear fishermen were being pushed to their limits as I continued to do the tuna shuffle around the boat without much luck. Then I decided to do take a chance. I dropped my line size from 40lb to 25lb test and the results were immediate. I hooked up my first fish after a 10 minute soak of a sardine, but after 15 minutes of battle, I pulled the hook and Charlie the Tuna swam back to the depths. The crew encouraged me to keep fishing. I asked a fellow passenger what time it was and he said that it was only 8:45 in the morning and we had all day to fish. By the time I pulled the hook on my second hook up, 25 fish had been landed with most being in the 60-75 pound range. I knew my time would come if I just kept working and stayed positive. My Torium 16 would soon find out if it was up to the challenge. Line started to pick up speed coming off the reel as I took a legitimate swing at a big bluefin. The hook held and the battle began. For the next hour, a crew member stayed pretty close to me as I gingerly worked the tug of war game with the big fish. The crew member continued to give little pieces of warranted advice on how to land the beast. After an hour into the fight, I started to get a bit tired. The crew member said that the battle was coming to its conclusion but more fish are lost at the rail than at any other time because fishermen get excited when they see the prize near the surface and start to get a little "horsey" with their movements. Slow and steady worked during majority of the battle, so I continued the same steady movements as the fish began to rise. The beautiful colors of the bluefin shone brightly in the mid-morning sun as the fish laid on its side and was appropriately double gaffed by two the crew members. The encouragement during the battle didn't go unappreciated. The rest of the day went pretty much the same with some personal bests and some heartbreak at the rail. Everyone eventually landed at least one fish as the entire boat went home with limits as well as a memories that will get us all through another week of work. On another note, the toughness award goes out to the captain of the Diawa as he toughed out a rough incident with the bait tank chair. After a quick visit to the galley for medicine and a bandage, he was back on deck with his crew. It was a stellar day which was only made better by the excellent service of the members of the Diawa Pacific.

Received a cap from H&M landing a couple of months ago and because we live up in north county was…read morenot able to return the cap as it was non adjustable and was too small. Went down there yesterday and spoke to a guy who said we cannot swap the cap with an adjustable one because it would confuse the inventory listings . Even though the cap was brand new and still had the sticker on. I then asked to speak to a supervisor, I rotated to the counter behind me and spoke to a woman about the situation. She went online to find my "information ", it's a brand new cap with H&M written on the front, wasn't looking for cash just wanted a larger size. She wasn't able to properly assist me and I asked for the manager, she said he wasn't here but to come back later. Well guess what I did come back over an hour later and the mystery manager was not back, guess he must've had a giant lunch. Anyway after speaking to two people one who supposedly was a supervisor and came back over an hour later decided it was not worth it to waste any additional time. Better customer support is drastically needed by H&M landing. Recommend you check out Oceanside fishing companies before using this company.
