I just had cataract surgery a week ago- left eye. I was hesitant about it. I could read great (close-up) and I did not think the cataract was bad enough! WOW! It was far and away the best decision I had ever made and best money I ever spent. My eyesight was so bad, I couldn't find the broadside of a barn with 2 hands and a flashlight. I'm torn-I want to award NSES my 5 star eval....love the physicians, check-in staff, eye techs that prep you. My snag came upon check out, AFTER an eye procedure and my eyes were still dilated. The checkout procedure did not go well for me. I couldn't see the plexiglass (eyes are still dilated and unfocused), or focus well enough to look at my calendar to schedule the follow up appointment or pay my copay since I was dropped off (no one is allowed to wait for patients in the office). Somehow I felt like I was in a Twilight Zone episode, trying to see without being able to...and getting attitude from the checkout chick since the MD didn't sign off on the visit after visit summary. read more

I went to North Suburban Eye Care (now called Twin City Eye Specialists) to have a Chalazion (bump on my eyelid) looked at and/or removed as it was affecting my vision. The front desk is great, and the nurses are wonderful. The doctors I worked with, were not. I felt rushed, like they didn't want to know the history of the issue, and didn't want to get to know me. He never made eye contact (except when he was looking at my eye through the machines), then told me it should go away on its own in 4-6 months. Then he left. Never let me know if there was anything I should do in the meantime to help it or anything. Since it was affecting my vision I went to an Optometrist for a prescription update but they said this is a serious thing and needs to be taken care of before he was comfortable getting me a new prescription. Unfortunately, I ended up back at the same Ophthalmologist (I know, bad choice), and they lanced the Chalazion (bump), but I felt the same way about the doctor I was with. Rushed, and didn't care, just got you in and out; didn't even spend time to let me know how to take care of it after the fact. If you're going to have to have an uncomfortable procedure like that done the doctors should ensure you are comfortable, and have a great "bedside" manner. It can help put the patient at ease. By the way, the Chalazion never went away! After the swelling and bruising went down, it was still there! Now I'm back to square one in finding a (hopefully) more caring Opthamologist to take care of it again. read more

Monovision- one eye set for far and one for near got rid of my contacts and readers for good. Dr. Lobanoff is a magical eyesight fixer. I went for an exam and new glasses this morning. The exam and doctor were great! But, everything afterwards was a disaster. After my appointment, I went to their optical department to shop for new frames. I was really excited as I've been meaning to do this for years! None of the 3 sales people greeted me. No big deal. There was no info posted about whether or not customers were allowed to try on frames (I was unsure due to the pandemic). There was also no info posted about if an appointment was needed to shop. I browsed/waited for over 10 min. 3 other customers who arrived after I did were assisted. One employee, while she was walking by to assist a customer, asked if I was "still doing ok." I was taken off guard since I was never approached to begin with. I replied with, "I guess so..." and she walked away. The other 2 employees proceeded to a back room where I could overhear them talking about me and that neither were going to assist me. Needless to say, I left in tears. I then wrote a message to them via their website instead of going with bad review right away because I know how much those suck. I just received an email back stating that the employees have a different story and they were busy, but sorry you didn't like it. No remedy and they basically accused me of lying and/or exaggerating. read more

I flew to Minnesota for this LASIK procedure, yes, I did! And I am SO glad I did! I was so impressed by Dr. Lobanoff's background and he was also recommended to me by a doc here in Denver and a family member in Minnesota. Dr. Lobanoff and his staff were incredible and I am IN LOVE with my new eyesight! I cry almost every time I go hiking now because I am seeing things I never could see before -- crisp, clear details with my 20/15 eyesight! Dr. L's staff were so informative, helpful, answered every little question, and made me feel so comfortable. I would say I had the "normal" level of concern and fears as they related to the procedure and healing process and a bit of anxiety the day of... none of this worry or fear was necessary. The process was so easy and painless, as was the recovery. The only thing I dealt with was a bit of dry eye, but that's because I live in Colorado and its very dry here. Nothing that the eye drops they gave me didn't cure. I'm now 5 weeks out from my procedure and only use eye drops a couple times a week! Dr. Lobanoff is so kind, knowledgeable, and a true expert in his field. I am sending some friends his way with significant corneal issues and he is going to help them too! I just wanted to share our feedback about our visit today. It was terrible- We walked out without fulfilling our appointments. We were treated like a lepers the minute we walked in the door because, as a vaccinated adult, we walked in without a mask and were rudely instructed to get one on immediately. Not a nice reminder or even a "hello and welcome" first, just treated like children or criminals. Next my wife gets told she can't be in the lobby while I am in my visit. She has to leave. We drove 45 minutes because you could not fit us into White Bear clinic and she has to sit outside or something? As we got up to the counter the same theme continued. Once she realized my wife was having an appointment too, we asked "can she come back at the same time" and the gal acted like it was huge request and said "it is up to the doctor and the staff" which again made us feel unwanted. She was not nice at all. Next we are handed a bunch of paperwork to fill out with a "brand new pen that you can keep" acting as if that would be saving us from COVID or something and then instructs us to sit "in are #1 and fill out the paperwork. We looked around an saw miserable clients with their heads down sitting all alone. That was the final straw. Does this firm not realize that we are safe and do you even care if we have antibodies?? No! There is no lockdown anymore and we are not lawbreakers. Rather we are healthy. Wealthy clients who were willing to patronize this business and pay cash for your services. Is kindness out the window at this company? No way I would return for a procedure and follow up visits in place that wants to use Covid as an excuse to muzzle and treat people like crap. I actually felt anxiety overwhelm me thinking I would have to go through this treatment over and over. These people made us feel unwelcome and unappreciated. We will never patronize this company and instead we will use a competitor of theirs who will want and respect our business. I wish it was different but people need to stop using Covid to bully people! We are willing to wear mask when appropriate but companies don't have the right to be mean to their clients and not expect repercussions. read more

In November I started cataract surgery with North Suburban eye. I chose to do mono vision with the first eye set for far sightedness. Surgery was November 9th. On Friday I tested positive for COVID and had to reschedule the second eye. I was pretty miserable since now my glasses didn't work. Mary, the scheduling nurse rebook the second eye. At the time the CDC recommended 10-14 days, which Mary did. The drs office decided to start a new rule of 30 days. The surgical nurse contacted me with the new rule and stated they would not schedule mine until after December 30th, which was beyond the CDCs recommendation and their own new policy. We I questioned why the delay the nurses response was that "It was my failure I went out and got Covid", "I should be concerned about the elderly", "Maybe they wouldn't even do the surgery". I have never been treated to rudely by anyone. My response was that I didn't go out and get Covid on purpose. I had actually been very few places in months. I told her that the Minnesota Department of Health was leaving me messages as to where I had been in the last 4-6 days. When the nurse accused me of going out to get Covid I brought up the fact that 4-6 days before testing positive I was at their office. She proceeded to SCREAM at me to not say that. Well, I have proof of surgery and proof of positive test. Can't make it up. As far as being concerned about the elderly...I am one. And to throw that comment in my face without knowing how COVID has affected my family...my elderly mom, in-laws, anyone, was rude and insensitive. Since she threatened me with putting surgery off and possibly nit doing it at all I chose to have the second eye done elsewhere. I couldn't trust his I would be treated since she would possibly be in the operating room. Could this have been an isolated incident...possibly. But I'd she could treat me like that I'm sure she could and has done it to others. It was scary, frustrating, unprofessional, intimidating, and just plain wrong. On 03/25/2021 at 8:30am I called North Suburban Eye Specialists to inquire about my son's glasses that broke. My question was to get his broken glasses fixed, which is a manufacture defect because the glue of the metal frame is no longer holding onto the lens anymore. Come to find out, there were more concerning issues to deal with instead. Optical could not find my son by his full name or date of birth. Lady continued to help me and put me on hold while she looked into it. After a few minutes, a lady named Kate came on the phone. I'm not sure if that was the same lady, but she told me my son does not exist in the system and they share the same system throughout the metro. I told her I don't understand how my son cannot exist in their system, when I'm looking at his paperwork from North Suburban last year for his visit. Prescriptions and discharge paper are all in my hands. She said she could not tell me why? Eventually she looked into the clinic side and found him under the wrong date of birth. They have my son under January 26, 2002. How is that even possible? That's a 7 year difference. Not even close to his actual birthdate. My son is only a child. I feel like there is a violation in hippa due to lack of procedure, unsecure data, bad protocol, inaccurate patient information. Not once did they verify with me address or phone number as well. They looked him up by name and then finally date of birth, but used nothing else to verify. I don't feel like my son's account is secure at all. I am very concerned about his information not being accurate or secure. I spoke to Howard the Supervisor who told me that they rarely use date of birth to look up or identify a patient. So does that mean anyone can have access to his medical? He said he has no explanation about how it happened. I told him he needs to do a full investigation as my son is a minor and that violates hippa. He did not sound promising on investigating further as he told me he did not know how to fix or go about this situation. I hope this review will help another family be aware not go through what I am with my son's health information and record. I hope the clinic has an automated voice recording system on our phone conversation today because I'm sure they probably went and rushed to fix his profile after finding out their error. 03/26/2021 at 11am I spoke to Cindy M. a billing specialists at the north suburban eye clinic. She told me my son's date of birth has been corrected and there should be no further issues. I verified with her that there is no outstanding balancing due to their error (it's not even a typo as the month, day and year is completely different). I also wanted assurance about their procedure and what they are going to do moving forward to ensure it doesn't happen again with anyone else. She basically kept telling me my account is fine and there should be no concerns in the future. Hmm that's not my question. She downplayed their error and did not even care that inaccurate patient information could be an issue with insurance. She kept telling me that even with his wrong birthdate, it didn't matter if they billed it wrong to insurance because they use the parents information anyways. So that makes it okay still? No, it should not. This is unethical practice and negligence. What happens when a patient has multiple insurances now? Had it not been my son and it was his dad instead, the insurance carrier, with the wrong date of birth then insurance would have rejected and denied any payment. Then an outstanding balance would've have taken place and who else knows what would've happened. She also told me there is no way for her to find out who made the mistake and basically it is what it is and that's it. Wow, they really don't care about their patient's, their patient's privacy, patient's information. I hope they get investigated with their practice and procedures. On the recommendation of a friend, I contacted NSES for a Lasik consultation and I am SO glad that I did. I never considered myself a candidate for Lasik before because I didn't mind wearing glasses or contacts. However, when I turned the big 4-0, I started having trouble with my close-up vision and I found that poor vision with BOTH distance and close-up was going to be a problem. My friend told me that about the "mono-vision" Lasik which corrects both distance and close-up vision issues. First, I never knew that even existed and after she raved and raved about the procedure, I knew I had to check it out. I went in and met with Dr. Lobanoff and his technicians. They were very low-key, no pressure at all. The procedure was explained in great detail, they explained what to expect during the procedure and after. They could not have been nicer, more professional or more thorough. They also took the time to explain all financing options as well. I committed two days later and had my procedure about two weeks after that. I should say that I never was afraid of having it done, but the day of the procedure, as they were getting ready to start, I had a moment of panic. Dr. Lobanoff and his team were so nice. They explained that there was no rush and that I could take as much time as I needed to calm down. I took about 10 minutes and 8 minutes after that, I could see the clock on the wall. (the first time I could see any distance since 6th grade!) My recovery went exactly as they explained. There was no pain, no discomfort and best of all, I could see! I had one question during my recovery so I called the office and got an immediate answer. My follow-up appointments went as well as my initial consultation. I really feel like Dr. Lobanoff and his team really care about their patients. Its not a "Lasik Factory" like some of the other places appear to be. They truly care first and foremost about your health and your comfort. I am so happy with having the procedure, but I am mostly happy that I took my friend's advice and went to Dr. Lobanoff. It is truly one of the best things that I have ever done for myself and I highly, highly recommend them. read more

I received Lasik from North Suburban and had a great experience leading up to the surgery but where North Suburban falls short is their office staff - especially at the Coon Rapids office, every time I have gone in there, I have to wait forever and when working with their staff on checking in and scheduling the next appointment they forget that the reason they have jobs is because of their customers and being snarky when asked simple questions is not a good form of customer service. We have a choice when choosing eye care providers - to do it again, I would go somewhere else just so I wouldn't have to deal with the office staff in Coon Rapids. read more

The eye doctors of North Suburban Eye Specialists are very good. Dr. Khalil is exceptional and their contact lens department is prompt and friendly. But their optical studio is absolutely horrible. I have wated 2 months for glasses for my son, and they still are not ready. When initially ordered them 10/17, they said they would be ready in 7-10 days. I checked with the studio 14 days later about their status, and they said they were rejected by the studio manager for being too thick. I asked when they would be ready, they were unsure. I checked 10 days later, and they said they were still not ready. I told them this was getting absurd and that they should be ready. When they were ready on 11/25, they were ungodly thick and they said, "Well this is what you wanted." They said you could have asked for a thinner lens, but she never offered this. I told her I wanted the glasses reordered in the thinner lenses. I called VSP, my insurance, and they spoke with North Suburban and they said the glasses would be ordered in the thinner lenses. I then called North Suburban on 12/23 and they told me they never ordered them because I did not tell them what they wanted to do. This was completely untrue! I would never purchase glasses with them ever again! read more

Ok, I normally am not a guy who takes the time to do reviews, but I felt obligated to because of how life changing my experience with North Suburban Eye Specialists has been. My experience with North Suburban Eye Specialists has been nothing but amazing. I have a good almost 4 year history of eye problems at my ripe age of 32 related to my autoimmune disease including: glaucoma, iritis, chronic dry eye, and pretty ridiculous near sighted vision (-7.5). Before coming to North Suburban Eye Specialists, i was bouncing around from one doctor to another in other facilities, and just wasn't getting the care i was looking for. I had a Ahmed Tube shunt placed for my increasing eye pressure d/t glaucoma by a very respected glaucoma specialist/surgeon (with a different facility), but unfortunately, my post-op phase was complicated and infectious, not because of any fault of the surgeon, but in the end, he was unable to resolve the issue and he referred me to the U of M, where i met Dr. Mathew Johnson, who primary works out of North Suburban Eye Specialist. Since that day, my life and health of my eyes has dramatically taken a turn for the better. I had my Ahmed Tube shunt removed and Dr. Johnson, who also placed my current tube shunt, the baerveldt tube shunt and i am happy to say that 9 mo later, my glaucoma is finally under control after almost 3 years of appointments, surgeries, medications, and frustrating disappointment. My eye health has improved so much that I was able to receive Lasik/PRK surgery, which prior to becoming a North Suburban Eye Specialist patient, i had pretty much given up hope on and was told i could not be a candidate d/t my history of eye problems. I had my Lasik/PRK surgery with Dr. Lobanoff and this was life changing. I honestly have been very satisfied with all the care i have received from this company and can say in confidence that i will be a patient of North Suburban Eye Specialists for the rest of my life. They truly changed my life and eye health. Every staff member i have encountered has been nothing but respectful, professional, willing to listen and help. I feel like they do a great job listening to my concerns and take them seriously and each appointment i leave knowing I've had all my questions/concerns addressed......This to me is very important. Also they have knowledge about and use the newest and latest techniques and equipment with confidence, and this to me is a must when it comes to the health of my eyes. i had Lasik with Dr L and it was great at first. I was told Dr L would be doing all of my followup. He made it a point to tell me that. I never saw him again. I am wearing glasses now. I was told they will adjust me for free, but here's the thing, I don't think I want them touching my eyes again. I'm revisiting the whole experience in my head and and the whole thing seemed very salesman-y vs healthcare focused. In short, it was a waste of money for me. I also am unable to wear contacts again because of the Lasik. I was not aware that this could be an issue. If I DO decide to have my eyes tweaked again, I know of another place that isn't cheap - but they have a stellar reputation. I'd also like to add that the front desk and back desk staff at he Coon Rapids office is fairly nasty. Anytime you approach - they act like you are bothering them. I was very nervous about getting Lasik done. I received a free evaluation at North Suburban Eye Specialists. They ran me through a series of tests to make sure I was a good candidate for Lasik. Dr. Lobanoff met with me to explain thoroughly what the test results showed and exactly how the procedure is conducted. The day of the surgery went unbelievably well. Dr. Lobanoff and his staff were absolutely wonderful and explained everything step by step. Right before I went into the quick 10 minute surgery, Dr. Lobanoff explained exactly what would happen. He let me know exactly how I would feel, what sounds I would hear, and the results I would have immediately after surgery. They are truly professionals at this business and I would highly recommend them to get your Lasik done!! read more

I was very excited about going to North Suburban, especially since they spend so much money on advertising and endorsements, I figured they would have the cream of the crop technology and equipment. I scheduled a routine eye exam for my young but seemingly quickly fading eyes. My insurance is confusing to most people and when I called to make the appointment, I informed the front desk woman. But since my husband had gone in to see them (and we share insurance) I figured there would be no issue. When I walked in the lady at the front desk started off pleasant enough but quickly turned into very smug and snarky with her comments towards me. As it turns out, they do NOT accept my insurance after all, but my real complaint here comes from the notes she read off of the computer.... That they had indeed checked in to my insurance and found out that I was not covered. I made the comment that it would have been helpful if someone from the office would have called to tell me that when the realization was made.. it would have saved me a 45 minute drive and a few hours out of my day, but instead this woman at the front desk retorted with a very passive aggressive attitude that it wasn't their responsibility to tell me if I was covered or not. Now, in all fairness that is probably true... it ISN'T their responsibility, but since the digging had already been done, how hard would it have been to make a 2 minute phone call to tell me that I was not covered, that I would have to pay out of pocket if I decided to keep the appointment and that I should probably connect with my insurance to find someone in-network? Not hard at all. My main issue with this experience is this: everyone is in the business of customer service. Even if you think your company is the best, do not dismiss people and act like their business doesn't matter. Treat people with respect and imagine if it were you on the other end, would you have appreciated the little extra effort of being given a heads-up about your insurance? Those small things mean volumes to people. And just think, they might just post a negative review on Yelp. I have nothing to say about the actual quality of the eye exam or doctors as I was never seen. read more
