Complete lack of compassion and kindness. My baby shower was planned to be here at the end of the month. Unfortunately due to complications I gave birth in July at 22 weeks pregnant. My mom had only given a deposit which was not a significant amount of money. When she called and spoke to them (back in July, many weeks before event) and told them what had happened they were cold, not kind and would not give any type of refund. We had even inquired about using it towards a birthday cake or catering and we were told no. Giving birth at 22 weeks after going through infertility is the most devastating thing someone can go through and I pray no you love ever experiences this kind of pain. I've been here twice. First time I've gotten a tuna hoagie, second time a hot roast beef sandwich. This place is close to my work and I can easily stop here for my lunch break. Although the food was above average, I found the staff to be cold and almost seemed annoyed at my presence. I find this odd because I am always nice and courteous to food service employees. The first time I was here I asked, "where do I check out?" The employee rolled their eyes and almost stomped over to the check out counter without speaking to me whatsoever. BBQ chicken, BBQ brisket, fresh salsa with homemade tortilla chips (do not miss those!), a few whole grain salads, chicken pot pie, and 6 apple cider donuts that were awesome. Went for brunch today. This used to be a farmstand only with some bakery items. A restaurant was added. The brunch was $14.99 and had both breakfast and lunch items. The mushroom ravioli was so good as well as a fish dish with delicious mashed sweet potatoes. The breakfast items were standard and good. The desserts looked great but I was full! The food is supposed to be local. The heat wasnt working and the staff was hit with a flu bug so 5 were missing. The owners were doing it all and all in all did a good job. This restaurant/marketplace is in a beautiful country setting. We go for their Thursday night pasta night buffet that starts at 5:30. They generally have the same dishes, but they are all good. I really enjoy their salads. They have Caesar salad, broccoli, etc. They do have chicken and mushrooms in a white sauce along with pasta and different sauces. The meal includes beverages and desserts in the price. They have live music too. You could call in a reservation, but we never did. Maybe if you have a large group. The food in the marketplace is good too. My only complaint is lukewarm food. I had to tell the server a few times that maybe they should stir the food more. read more

Northbrook is closer to us than any other restaurant, but we seldom eat there. Today's lunch reminded us why, yet again. Mushroom soup was good, loaded with mushrooms. But it was quite salty and could have been hotter. Reuben was entirely adequate, but far from the best we've had in the area. Shepherd sandwich, a riff on a Greek gyro, was inedible. The lamb tasted (and looked!) like unseasoned shoe leather. I ate the tomatoes and lettuce and dumped the meat into the trash. We have attended catered functions in the upstairs dining room, and the food was never more than OK. Northbrook was doing a brisk business at lunchtime today. Maybe we just always order the wrong thing, but based on today's experience it'll probably be another year or two before we give it another try. P.S. They do one thing well: their ice cream cones are delicious on a hot summer afternoon! read more

I have to say that we love the pasta night event that they have on Thursday evenings when there are not COVID restrictions. the pasta night food is excellent and a great bargain for the all you can eat buffet in the lovely exposed beam dining room upstairs.This is a very casual barn setting in the middle of nowhere with lovely rural scenery and plenty of outdoor dining options. They take precautions seriously and even have an out door hand washing sink. The lunches I have had there are mediocre. I will return because its a perfect spot for my friend and I to meet where we can eat outside and not too many other people around. read more

I took the family here tonight, our first and last time. I will never go back. I ordered the beef brisket platter, it was extremely over cooked and very dried out. I'm really astonished they would even serve it the way it looked. It came with 2 sides which were both served cold. I asked the gentleman behind the counter if he could warm them up - he put the whole plate in the microwave and nuked it for another 2 minutes. Now the brisket was really over cooked and dried out. My son had the cheesesteak and he said that was VG, but the other 2 meals were marginal at best. We had friends recommend this place as they said they enjoyed a nice lunch here. The best apple cider donuts I have ever had! These are hands down my favorite and I have been coming here since I was a kid. Now this place has changed radically since then as it used to be an actual orchard with pick your own apples and pumpkins and hayrides, but the donuts at least have not changed. Where other apple cider donuts are heavy and greasy, these are light and airy. When you get them right out of the fryer and the cinnamon and sugar is on yours hands, perfection. They also do all you can eat nights and brunch. I have been to the pasta night on Thursdays, and it is a good bargain for your money, but it is not going to be the best pasta you have ever eaten. It is more of a get what you pay for situation. Again the same experience with brunch. It is consistently good food, but it isn't going to blow you away. Except the donut french toast is pretty neat. They cut the donut in half and cook it like it's french toast. That is pretty great. This place is also a BYOB which is always great. They have this one room upstairs which is hung with lights and branches and looks like a pinterest-worthy area to have a lady's brunch. Something I may have to convince my friends to try. read more

If you're looking to experience markup Costco products, this is the place for you. Their common practice is to repackage and slap on a Northbrook's own sticker. Pies are hit or miss; I've experienced some good and some that had definitely been forgotten in cold storage too long. Sanitary practices with the soup may be questionable - recycling soups for days, possibly weeks. But hey, maybe you really need that gatorade or hot cider donut The products from Bailys are delicious, but make sure you check the expiration date before you buy. You're far less likely to find old, expensive milk if you check out Bailys Dairy down the road. read more

Food- My tuna hoagie was delicious, but the star of my meal was for sure the peanut butter bars. They were SO good!
