Bubble gum flavor burst, mint hot fudge sundae, and strawberry hot fudge sundae

This is a great little walk up spot in Lakewood. Stopped by here during a stay in a nearby cabin for some tasty frozen treats on a couple of warm summer evenings. You walk up, order at the window, and they'll call when your order is to be picked up at another window. Their ice cream is soft serve and their servings are out of this world huge. My son ordered a large cone and had to reduce his order to a medium when he found out a large is nearly a pound of ice cream (though, at 17, he was pretty convinced he could finish a large off). I enjoyed one of their flurry style shakes (chocolate mixed with oreos). It was delicious and a small was plenty. My second visit, I got a small hot fudge mint sundae, which was indulgently delicious. I went during COVID19 (during the state-wide mask mandate) and will warn that the employees were not wearing masks and there was nothing encouraging social distancing. However, you do order outdoors and it was pretty easy to social distance on your own. I'd definitely head back the next time I'm in the area (pretty sure my son is determined to tackle that large cone!).

The flavor of the day: lemon custard!

The service was friendly and their food is pretty good! Mostly fried fare and ice cream treats. I think the plain vanilla ice cream isn't as good as the chocolate, but overall the custard is superior! Good cheese curds, average chicken tenders, and I wouldn't recommend the pretzel bites with cheese. Would recommend a visit! (They only take cash or checks)

Cute little drive-in place with a walk-up window for ordering. They have several picnic tables to the side of the building for enjoying your order. We were here for the frozen treats. The medium cone I ordered was HUGE. It was seriously bigger than a large order I've received from other places and it tasted great. My husband gave the chocolate shake his seal of approval after he finished. I didn't hear a peep out of him until it was completely gone. Remember to bring cash, because they don't accept other forms of payment. Perfect place to stop and cool off on a warm day.

If you are in or around Lakewood, WI this is a must stop and if you aren't paying attention you could drive right by and miss this hidden gem. Every time I go up north I make a point to stop here. You might say that it's just another burger and ice cream stand that Wisconsin has plenty of....but really do we? Are there places like this around the state? In my opinion little mom and pop places like Northern D'lites don't exist. Sunday July 17th 2022 before heading back home we stopped here for lunch. I choose the Island burger which is a double cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, and thousand island dressing. A large fry which was seriously enough French fries to feed a family of four! My gf had a single cheeseburger and we shared a chocolate malt. Both our dogs got pup cups which was a large scoop of vanilla and a biscuit. All that food for $22.00! They have picnic benches surrounding the outside. The staff is always friendly. This place deserves your money.

Mozzarella sticks... look at dat cheeeeese!

If you are in Lakewood, WI, you have to stop at Northern D'lites. I got soo excited to come here as a little kid after spending the day on the lake... and still get excited to come to this day. They have a whole bunch of good fried stuff and ice cream creations. I personally love the pizza puff which is in a puff pastry and they also have some pretty righteous mozz sticks. Delightful!

I will say that the hot food is just ok. Ive had burgers, hot dogs, fries...none of which i'd say were memorable. The hot food always seems to take quite a while to make. On a 1-5 rating scale, I'd give the hot food a 2 1/2 score, at best. They have cedar crest ice cream by the scoop. Probably 10-15 flavors to choose from at any given time. This is a plus for me....love cedar crest! They also have soft serve ice cream. My kids always get flurries (the Big Dipper version of a DQ blizzard). I've also gotten a root beer float several times. All of these are big pluses for The Big Dipper. There is seating outside and inside, which is convenient. You can also order either from a window outside or from the counter inside. The employees are always friendly. Seems to always be alot of younger folks working, with one or two adults. Inside the establishment they used to have an arcade and a small store with fireworks and camping-type accessories. Now they got rid of the arcade and only sell small wooden signs with silly sayings on them. And...there are an obnoxiously excessive amount of these signs!! I'm sure the wooden signs have a huge profit margin when someone actually buys them, but in several years of frequenting this place, i've never seen anyone buy one. I wish they'd cut back on the wood signs and go back to selling the camp-style stuff. I like this place and I come here often. The ice cream is good and the food is ok. I'd recommend it to anyone spending time in the area.
