My daughter just started training here and she really enjoys it. Master Bill Knopf and Instructor Mikey Tito are excellent instructors.

We've been coming here for 4 years and I watched my daughter go from crying in her first class at the age of 3, to now being a black belt and telling her friends she can't play because She's going to TKD. I would and do recommend this place to everybody. I can't praise them enough...

When i questioned Master Jung about this his response was that Tae Kwon Do was not for self defense but that he teaches self confidence within a kid and how to make them feel good about themselves. Well for $139 a month i can pat my son on the back and tell him he is great but that is not going to help should he get in a fight. The so called black belts looked as though they could not fight there way out of a paper bag. Making the kids FEEL GOOD is great but how are they going to feel when they find themselves in a place were they have to defend themselves and they get beat up! that burst of bubble will have the kids questioning everything else in there lives. When i sent the email that my son will no longer attend his dojo, i still got charged the following month, even though my son had not attended. I also received an email that i will be charged an additional month as they had a two month cancel policy. So they charge me $279 for a kid who is not even attending the school. Tae Kwon Do is a Korean martial art. It combines combat and self-defense techniques with sport and exercise. For a Master to tell me its NOT used for self defense but only for self confidence REALLY made my head spin. I took 2 years of karate in college and i learned more in my first month than my son did in the time he was at this school. If you want your kid to FEEL all warm and snuggly inside this is the school for them, but if you want your kid to actually LEARN something about SELF-DEFENSE then i would look else were. BYT when i asked about the 1980's trophy and if they actually do have sparring with other dojo's so that the kids can actually practice what they learned the master again said NO not really as that is not what they teach....REALLY! Very unhappy mom

We first joined ACE Taekwondo in Yorkville back in February 2021, when my daughter--then in the…read moremidst of a full-blown Naruto obsession--begged to become a "ninja". To be honest, I was hesitant at first. My daughter had tried T-ball previously and lost interest quickly, and I worried Taekwondo would be another short-lived hobby. The commitment felt long, and while the cost was reasonable for area martial arts classes, it felt like a risk if she didn't stick with it. On top of that, we were still deep in the pandemic: my daughter wore a mask to every class, and I waited outside in the car. But she loved it. Despite all the challenges, she kept showing up to class, excited and engaged. As Covid restrictions lifted, I started coming inside to watch occasionally, but mostly kept to myself--I'm not much of a "people person." Still, as the months turned into years and my daughter worked her way toward her black belt, I realized this wasn't a passing phase. Her dedication inspired me. Eventually, I started bringing my toddler to the Toddler classes and got to know Master, Instructor White, and the other instructors. When my daughter earned her deputy belt and began preparing for her black belt test, I decided to join her on the mat. I signed up for Taekwondo and, being an overachiever, added Hapkido too! A year later, my daughter and I had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to South Korea with ACE for an international tournament and cultural trip. It was amazing to share this experience--and our training journey--together. If we stay on track, my daughter will earn her 2nd Dan (2nd degree black belt) on the same day I receive my 1st black belt. I can't think of a better milestone to share as a family. Now, my 4-year-old is also a Tiny Tiger at ACE. The instructors are wonderful, and the kids we've met through ACE are some of the kindest, most respectful kids I've ever known. They truly embody the tenets of Taekwondo, and ACE is helping shape future leaders in our community. I am so proud to be part of the ACE family. If you're looking for a place where your child--and your whole family--can grow in confidence, discipline, and community, I highly recommend checking out ACE Taekwondo!

He started in 5th grade when as a very quiet, introverted kid, he was getting picked on at school. When he first started Taekwondo it was more because we encouraged him to go, as the years went on, he took the journey to his black belt on himself. He dedicated himself to learning the disciplines to be successful in life. He gained confidence, strength, wisdom, and determination. At AMAA, they teach principles that go past the sport of Taekwondo and into home and school life. The principles helped my son become more autonomous and to face difficulties with a greater confidence. I am very proud of his character and very thankful to AMAA for the part they played in his life. He is just about to receive his second degree Black belt and inspired his two younger brothers and little sister to also take on the journey to a black belt.

However, over time, I feel the facility has gradually lost some of its "premium" feel due to a number of recurring operational issues. There appear to be several systemic problems that impact the overall member experience: Studio and Class Technology Frequent issues with audio equipment in class studios. Microphones often do not work or batteries are not charged. Classes are routinely delayed due to technical problems, which is frustrating during a 45-minute session. Locker Room Maintenance Inconsistent availability of hand towels. Non-working TVs. Only one functioning hair dryer. A general lack of attention to detail that affects the experience. Towel Service One of the most noticeable changes has been the reduction in towel availability during workouts. In the past, towels were consistently stocked and accessible throughout workouts. That service level contributed significantly to the premium experience and convenience. Trainer Support The trainers themselves are strong and professional, but they seem to lack adequate support from management, particularly regarding equipment reliability and coverage when someone is out. As a long-time member, I share this feedback because I'd like to see the HealthPlex return to the level of operational excellence that originally set it apart. Many of these issues seem solvable with stronger oversight, maintenance consistency, and attention to detail.
