Cindy's Kitchen sells desserts inside the adjacent Kevin's gas station. MUST STOP AT KEVIN's either on your way to or from OBX! It doesn't look like much but is a hidden gem. The BEST desserts, no matter what treat you seek! Cookies, cakes, pies, muffins, bars, parfaits, and much more. Don't forget to look in the fridge sections! Not to worry, the cakes and pies come in single-serve slices. ;-) My all-time faves are the 3-layer Carrot Cake, Oreo Cake, Cranberry or Chocolate muffins...and of course the famous 12-layer cake that has the most perfect chocolate ganache throughout and all over the outside. Grab a 1/2 cake for your next potluck or gathering. OR, you can order ahead of time. Catering menus are at the register. Check out these ginormous babies I ordered for a backyard Southern Charm themed picnic a few weeks ago (trunk photo). I had no idea they would be so huge!. The cake boxes hold HUGE Pig-Pickin' cakes, which were DIVINE! (Fun fact: Pig-Pickin' cake is so named because it's the perfect cake to eat at a BBQ. Get it? Pig-Pickin' ). It's made of orange/pineapple/yellow cake/whipped fluffy deliciousness you will never forget. And those Key Lime Pies were the best I've ever had anywhere. I ordered Large pies, not knowing they'd be the largest I'd ever seen. We had about 40 people, so I had one full Key Lime AND a full Pig-Pickin left over that I had to give away. I just ordered WAY too much. Sad/not sad face. Most of our party guests were from Miami and island/South American countries, and even they raved about how best-in-class both desserts were. This review is for Cindy's cakes sold at the nearby Citgo gas station. I have never been to her nearby restaurant. When your traveling to or from the Outer Banks do yourself a favor. Stop for fuel and a Cindy's cake to go. They are marvelous! Over the years we have not not been disappointed with a variety of offerings. One of my favorites has been an Oreo. Cindy don't play, they are big! Great prices and a quality product. It can be hit or miss what is put out, don't get upset with the Citgo staff. They only sale her cakes. I'm looking forward to my next cake already. read more

They worked with me to order two cakes for which I drove from Virginia to pickup. The 12 layer Chocolate cake tasted just like my grandmother's; it was moist and tender and that frosting is sublime! I also bought a Coconut-Raspberry 12 layer cake that was the hit at my dinner party! The cake could not have been better, the raspberry wasn't overpowering, but leant a freshness that was unexpected. The coconut frosting was not overly sweet, but tasty. While there, my friend and I each got a sandwich; chicken salad and egg salad, and a scone for lunch which we enjoyed on the ride home. The employees were super helpful and cheerful and all in all, it was a delightful experience and we will be back! read more

When I found out that Cindy actually sold her baked goods and meals at a Citgo Convenience Store, I was a little reticent about checking this place out, but all of the positive reviews I was reading on Facebook, as well as the pictures of various foods she was making, was too hard to resist. We had recently moved to Moyock, NC, therefore, we were in search of local favorites, and this place was the top of the list for good eats. My wife and I pulled up at Citgo and entered the store and holy chocolate cake...I felt like a kid in a candy store! The shelves were filled with cakes (by the slice, half of a cake or whole), muffins, cupcakes, brownies, scones, cookies, breakfast sandwiches, etc. and the refrigerator was filled with sandwiches, salads and casseroles. Everything I've had there has been amazing! I am more than happy to drive 20 mins for a 12 layer chocolate cake! Everything Cindy and her Mom make is homemade and delicious! I've tasted several of her baked goods and sandwiches (chicken salad, tuna salad...even PB & J) and I've like everything! I've introduced Cindy's to several other people and they've thanked me for turning them onto this gem! They always say "Don't Judge a Book By Its Cover" and this local diamond in the rough, definitely falls into this category. My car automatically turns into this place every time I'm in the area (fortunately for my waist, I only go about once every couple of months...but when I go, I don't come home with less than 6 or so various items....and always a slice or HALF of the 12 Layer Chocolate Cake!) I got the sweet potato cupcake which was very soooo good. I also got to try the peanut butter cookie which was delicious. The large sign is misleading as it points to the old location next door. It is actually located inside the gas station. The prices for individual cake pieces are a little high but you get what you pay for. They certainly offered a large variety of sweets too. read more

I was a little taken-a-back by its location in the Citgo convenience store but don't let that keep you from going in. They are well stocked with many yummy choices. We stopped by at 10:00 for a breakfast-on-the-go and tried the sausage, egg, mayo sandwich with and without cheese and they were devoured by the crew. We also tried the chocolate muffin which was more like a cupcake without frosting, but hey, if it's labeled as a muffin it's healthy. The scones were tasty, but a little "cakey". We got 2 chocolate chip cookies, an assortment of muffins (chocolate, cranberry orange, blueberry, and sweet potato), and scones (blueberry, apple cinnamon). We didn't try any of the "fresh squeezed" drinks but saw the press ready to squeeze and the famous 12 layer cake looked very tempting but it would have been too messy for the car ride. On the way to the Outer Bank our son mentioned that had to try the 7 layer cake at Cindy's. I was surprised to find out it was located in a gas station on HWY 158. We tried the pumkin n cream, pecan, lemon, and 7 layer cakes. All were delicious. How do they make the 7 layers so thin? I really wanted a slice of the coconut custard pie they had. The sweet potato biscuits are so good. They did overcharge us though, which was a hassle to fix. Great food, overall.

We stopped here randomly last Spring Break and the cakes we sampled were SOOO GOOD we can't wait to go back this weekend on the way to Kill Devil Hills. Definitely worth a stop, lots of yummy cakes to choose from and you can just get a slice so you can try everything!!! read more

Quick and satisfying gas station stop for breakfast. We had a variety of different breakfast sandwiches within our party with the favorite being the hot links sandwich and the biscuits were fluffy and not overly salty.
