However, the evening before our trip, I realized I was due for an oil change. My heart dropped. I realized everyone and their mother must be trying to get an oil change for the first official weekend of summer. Richmond Auto Repair & Towing really helped me this Friday. My normal mechanic was too full so I looked for a place nearby. I'm so grateful I found them! I called to see if I could have an oil change. They were friendly and professional on the phone. I was told I could get one immediately (which is always a treat when every auto place is fully booked). I came in around 8:15am as a walk-in. They were done right before 9am. The gentleman at the front desk offered me two types of oils. I hadn't heard of one before and he kindly explained the differences. They have a clean waiting space and a public restroom. I'm happy to have found another trustworthy mechanic in Richmond!

Before anyone even looked at the car, they decided my key fob was the problem. They took it apart with screwdrivers and pliers despite me insisting the whole time that considering the symptoms it would be nearly impossible for this to be the reason my car wasn't starting. I did a quick google search that proved this and showed them but they dismissed it and were determined to get the key opened.....Once they got it open they told me the problem was someone had "glued the key closed and the chip in there was corroded by the glue". An hour later, they admitted the key was not the issue and sloppily glued it back together. The dealership later informed me the key is factory sealed and is not meant to be opened. They damaged the casing and did an awful job putting it back together. Over the week, I was given a revolving door of explanations. First it was the fuel pump, then supposedly they were sent the wrong parts, then it was no longer the fuel pump and needed to be reprogrammed. They also told me they put starter fluid in the car and that was why my car was now starting, but the dealership later told me later that same day that there was no evidence of starter fluid ever being used....... They had my car for a week, still had no diagnosis and they initially tried to still charge me a $150 diagnostic fee. When I picked up my car, it had fresh scratches on the hood and trunk that were not 100% not there when I dropped it off. The entire experience was incredibly unprofessional. My concerns were repeatedly dismissed, I was talked over, my key was unnecessarily damaged, my car was returned scratched on the hood and the trunk, and not a single person apologized when I went to get my car. I would not trust this shop with my vehicle and absolutely would not recommend them.

As much as I adore her, and she is an excellent and safe driver, I don't allow anyone to borrow my vehicle. Her inspection had expired and due to COVID-19 we were not pressed to get it done, especially since she wasn't going anywhere. I knew her car didn't need any work done, because she had a family mechanic look it over before he left town who assured me it would easily pass inspection, unless I ran into a pirate shop. I did a little research and found Staples Mill Auto Care had some decent reviews (outside of Yelp) and I took a chance. It was a chance I later came to regret. We dropped off the car at 9 am and at 2pm my daughter received a call from the shop indicating all the tires needed to be replaced, as well as both front lower control arms at the tune of $900!! I was blown away! Primarily because they obviously thought they were dealing with a novice also, both arms are not necessary! Those parts were already previously replaced! My daughter instantly called her father who advised them not to repair anything. He immediately had my kids go pick up the car and take it to an authorized mechanic who corrected Staple Mills Auto Faux Pas! Apparently these vultures need to scam a few patrons to make ends meet! I was driving home from work, on 64 just before the Mechanicville exit when I was unable to avoid a blown out piece of tire in my lane (had cars on either side of me, couldn't change lanes). The tire, I thought became lodged and was dragging under my car. I pulled over just to find that it had knocked something loose and I was dragging a piece of my car. I wasn't familiar with my surroundings and just Googled auto repair shops. This shop was a 1/2 mile away. I arrived, explained my situation and although they were very busy, they took my car in immediately, removed what happens to be a large plastic covering (not needed to drive but for undercarriage protection) explained the entire situation to me and then sent me on my way...but refused to take payment! They said it wasn't a big deal for them to remove and they just wanted me to be safe on the road! I really tried to pay, but they wouldn't take it. Both the gentleman that helped me were just amazing. They didn't try to get me to buy anything or sell me extra services, nothing. I will most definitely be back, they have earned my trust!
