Northern woods is a superior tree service. They give free estimates and will tell you if a tree is healthy enough to leave standing. We have a lot of trees, many of them very old. Other tree services have told us a tree needed to come down because "it's leaning". The Northern woods estimator said "I hate to take down a healthy tree.". Their prices are more than fair and they do an excellent cleanup and hauling job. I highly recommend this service. read more

Our Beloved Northern Woods Tree Service gave ouor majestic Oak with a swing in its branches a rejuvenating trim, as promised, right after the leaves fell.Their skilled crew and their up to the minute equipment and their love for our arboreal treasure came together and fixed the tree, cleaned up the residue, stacked some firewood for us and harvested an unwanted crop of Ghost Peppers ini about 2 hours. A job well done, a grand bargain. The swing will entertain another generation of grandchildren. This company was hired by my townhouse association to remove some trees throughout the development, not hired by myself. The workers had cut down a larger tree in a neighbors yard but decided to lay out all of the stumps in MY yard, shortly after it had snowed/rained. Heavy stumps that then left large divots in the yard that had not been there previously (pictures added to this post). It took me a few weeks to find out from my association who had done the work and so I contacted the owner. I left messages on two separate days and finally heard back from the owner. I tried to explain the situation and he asked questions but then repeatedly seemed focused on why it had taken me "this long" to contact them (after I had explained I needed to get the company name). He asked me to send him the pics and he would be in touch the next week. It has been almost two months and I still had gotten NO RESPONSE from the owner about this situation. I've written twice to get updates, one which was completely ignored, and he finally responded to me 7 weeks after the initial complaint. He said his foreman went out to see the damage ("ironically" the Friday right before I sent my second follow up text--7weeks after the initial) and he "didn't see anything". So basically I am getting the run around from this company and they have absolutely NO intention of fixing the problem they created in my yard, despite the hard evidence that their company did the damage. It's been three months since the initial damage and they will not fix it despite telling me they would on multiple occasions and never showi I never hired this company and based on their lack of responses, passing the buck, denial and lack of responsibility for their mess up, I never would. Thanks, Northern Woods, for messing up my yard and leaving me to foot the bill to fix the problem you created. Update: the company came to fix this over three months after initially saying they would. The fix was to throw a piece of grassy dirt in part of the hole. read more

I called Northern Woods because a 100 yr old beech tree suddenly died. Bob from Northern Woods came out the next day and 24 hours later his guys took the tree down, safely and without incident. They managed it without trampling any of the underlying bushes which was great. I had received another quote prior to calling Northern Woods which was a couple of thousand dollars more expensive. I wanted to hire Northern Woods Tree Service after they were recommended by someone whose opinion I trust. But after specifically scheduling an estimate for 7:30 in the morning because I needed to leave for a doctor's appointment, he didn't arrive until almost 8:00 and said he forgot I had time constraints. As it was raining, I would have been more than happy to postpone or reschedule if he'd contacted me in advance or even called at 7:30, but I do not think it is at all professional to keep me waiting for almost 30 minutes and then reply when reminded that I needed to leave "Oh, I forgot about that." So I will not be using Northern Woods Tree Service as it was pretty clear he didn't want my business. read more

Based on a referral from a neighbor, I decided to call Northern Woods about my overgrown yard. After a free consultation with Robert (Bob), we decided to go with Northern Woods. Not only was their quote the lowest of the 4 other companies I called in, but their level of expertise, service and attitude was second to none. Northern Woods cut down several pine trees, vines, other undesirable small trees, pruning other bushes and branches. This was done with a team who did this all in one day. Other companies had quoted me multiple days of work. As an arborist, Robert knew exactly how to direct his team. Bob is the nicest guy, he was referred to us by our neighbor. He knows so much about trees!! And we have A LOT of trees on our property. During the consultation he was very thorough, examining all the trees telling me their names, if they were healthy or not and what needed to be done. He tested several huge trees by drilling into them and found they were hollow!!! We had him cut down those unhealthy trees, trim dead limbs on the others and cable connect several limbs on a big tree to strengthen them during storms. It was a huge project, they brought in a crane, a wood chipper, several trucks, and a huge crew. It was very fascinating to watch. His team worked together so well, they were in and out in a day.
