Here is the problem with Northland Roller Rink! It's the new owners they are nothing like the Heman brothers that used to owned the rink who cared about the upkeep of the floors and the bathrooms, the new owners only care about the money! not the ladies bathroom, not the condition of the rink floor (that could use a good sanding) I bet they have not done anything to it since they took over the rink. Limited food (not good), no upkeep mostly. Bad attitude (management) unprofessional, and don't care. I bet if "we" stop going maybe he will get IT? Clean the restrooms, clean up around there. Serve better food and options for families considering you want to charge much more since you took over! bottom line the old owners cared about us because they were us! that's what happens when they just come and buy up businesses but care less on how it should be operated in a matter that shows you care and appreciate your patrons that put up with some of the things we really shouldn't----And yes the Waterford roller Rink reopened and it is so clean---I suggest all that can make it out there to check it out! Enjoyed skating. Music selection was fun. However, could not understand the DJ at all. The crowd was a little aggressive on a Saturday night and they sometimes push you out of the way. Tip: they pay you down on way in. Leave contraband in the car. Thought the place was a little dirty and showed some age, dirty air vents and windows. Northland is thee #1 Rink in Michigan. It's a great rink to host your birthday party, or even have a fundraiser for your family, church, school, or charitable organization. They have several days out the week where you can bring the kids out for lessons, they also offer family sessions through out the week. Not only do they cater to the kids/youth, they have adult lessons and sessions as well. The snack bar has a decent selection of refreshments and the game room is pretty cool as well. We attended a birthday party for my 8-year-old niece. We are all just regular adults; we are grandparents and parents. None of us are unruly or felons but we were definitely treated as such. I called the manager (owner) to calmly and professionally explain my complaints and concerns. Before I tell you what they were, let me say he told me if I didn't like it to go someplace that I like, his demeaner was very rude from the first hello. He didn't have to tell me to go someplace else because I would not go there again if there was a funeral for a loved one there. Upon arrival the security searching you at the door was so aggressive, he was so far in our purses, pulling everything out. All of our personal business. I understand him looking in it but he went way above and beyond. As I told the manager the casino and even federal buildings don't do so much, He said "they smoke and bring lighters and I had a fire" I told him, but there is no smoking. That's when he said the above. I didn't even get to tell him about my other complaints, the women's bathroom smelled so bad it couldn't have been cleaned in the last 3 months, I had to leave out due to my Asthma, my niece was not allowed to give out her treat bags although they have a sign stating they give the bets birthday parties. I started not to call the manager as I could tell he didn't care but I had to be fair and give him a chance. He need not worry; I will never set foot in that place again and I will discourage all of my loved ones and friends to do the same. I bet the places his kids go to don't treat their patrons this way. We have to demand respect and fair treatment, or we will never have it. I have so much more to say but I realize it is a long review, just please beware of this place!!! read more

my experiences at northland have been pretty good in the past, but the most recent time i went i had a hard time enjoying myself because the floors were so rough i had to really push to skate. which is really tough on the shins! otherwise the staff is usually pretty lax and the music is pretty good. i wouldn't return until they buff them floors though lol read more

They charge full price for kids but don't have walkers to offer to the kids. Then complain about parents stopping to help kids. Also food court only option was pizza. Outdated and not kid friendly read more

I remember coming to this place as a kid and it hasn't changed a bit!!! This is by far the biggest rink compared to many other rinks. My boyfriend and I have been to many rinks throughout the country and this one was pretty impressive as far as space goes. They have a great space for parties and a mini arcade area. I was happy that this place was extremely spacious and the skating floor was absolutely perfect. I wish the updated the decor! It looked dated and could definitely be renovated. They maintained the space considering it looked exactly the same 20 years ago, but it needs a new look. read more

The rink is really nice and they play good music, but that first time my cousin and I went we got turned away for wearing crop tops on an 18+ night. I looked on their website they don't have a code of conduct or dress code posted anywhere on their website. I went back to try again for the 18+ night wearing a t-shirt and there were a few ladies wearing crop tops... so the staff is very selective I guess who they let wear them or not. Before I left I took a picture of their code of conduct and their sign says " any clothing, which management/ security may consider as provocative for a MINOR is not permitted" so ladies if they try to " dress code" you on an 18+ and up night for wearing a crop to don't let them. read more

Let me tell you, Northland used to be the place where EVERYONE went back in the day...when we were younger. But the crazy thing about it, is that it is still thriving after so many years. If you are in a roller skating mood, definitely check out Northland Roller Rink but do not be surprised by the depleted exterior. Honestly, many buildings in Detroit still need some exterior renovation, but that doesn't stop us from having fun. My friend just turned 25 and hosted a party here, so that should tell you how much fun it is. The prices for entry and rentals are reasonable. If Northland would just man up and be JUST a roller rink, I would have given it five stars. (Ok, actually four, because they don't spray out the skates before they give them to you or after you turn them back in, and that's just gross.) The rink itself was awesome, especially because you know they have not changed a thing since it opened forever ago. The snack bar area was great too, with a decent menu and tons of booths. The problem lies in trying to be all things to all people. The video games were lame and kind of a strange distraction, but not as weird as laser tag. That laser tag wouldn't have been worth it to play for free. It was in a room (not a big room, either) with just these weird vinyl sheets hanging on elastic cords placed at random. Only one of the vests/guns actually works, so the red team wins every time because they are the only team with a functioning gun. This totally destroyed the cool, vintage feel of the place and made it just seem kind of janky and ghetto. Give up on the laser tag joke and I'll be happy to give back a star (two stars back if you start sanitizing your skates)! read more

Sign says: $7 for entry, $3 for skate rental. My friend and I brought our own skates and the guy still charged me $20. I asked why he charged me for skate rental. He said: "that's just how it is." I said: "that's not what the sign says." He gave me a rude look and motioned for me to move on. I love skating, but I will never come here again, and I will encourage me friends to avoid it as well. read more

Northland Roller Rink is one of the largest rinks in the state of Michigan. It's a great place to host a birthday party for any age as well as a great place to escape for fun and burn off some calories. The rental prices and entry fee haven't increased much over the last several years, making this an excellent as well as affordable day of family fun. Call ahead for age restrictions and details regarding what type of music you'll be skating to. The rink often offers music to match the age of the skaters. I don't think your 14 year old will want to skate to The Supremes. The skating sessions are usually 3 hours long but don't worry they have a refreshment bar! read more

This is the perfect spot for families on a rainy day! It reminds me of the skating parties hosted by my school when I was a kid.

I've been going to this roller rink for yrs now, they have done alot of updates inside and despite the old look on the exterior, inside the building looks great. Their floor is brand new and they have repainted the whole building. They have upgraded the bathroom (which was a disaster before) their prices for admission is very reasonable comparing to the other places. I have booked private parties which i raised up to $1500 and only paid $375.00 for a 3hrs sessions on the weekdays or $275.00 for two hrs session on SAT AND SUN. I had my sons birthday party there for just $170 for 20kids and the package included slice of pizza, juice, admission and skate rental. The plus on their birthday party is that they dont charge parents, if they are not skating, but since i am a skater, i just paid $5.00 for admission. The staff are really friendly too. Overall Northland has been the only place i trust and love to go and let my son to go and skate. read more
