I had a check engine light come and then my car shut down. I told them to fix the issue with the check engine light. They said had to replace my fuel pump wich was bad. When I picked it up they said they fixed the check engine light issue. I drove the car about 60 miles and the check engine light came on AGAIN !! I SPENT ABOUT $1600 with them and I STILL have the issue. And on top of it all they kept my care there for OVER THREE WEEKS. Even if the fuel pump was a separate issue. We just got back to JFK now, a week later and after confirming our ride earlier this morning, and they send a Honda Pilot that only fits 4 people!!! I take cabs to/from Manhattan frequently, Northside has always provided me with a clean car and a polite driver. They just released an app that does price estimates and tracks your car, this let's you know exactly when it will arrive. Overall good service, and they do fast airport pickups. Northside Luxury got me to JFK with no problems, when half of me was dreading disaster. Small sample size, but the cars seem to arrive on time, and best of all, you can reserve one online! I will take any chance possible to avoid using my phone to talk to a stranger about anything administrative. My fiance and I were stuck in New York for longer than anticipated the week of Hurricane Sandy, and we were worried about getting to JFK in time for our 7:15AM flight. We weren't seriously at risk of missing it, but man, it would have sucked to have to reschedule again. When I called to rebook at the same time as everyone else trying to leave New York, the lines were so inundated that the automated message actually hung up on me. On purpose. So we used Northside and scheduled a pick-up for 4:45AM, just several hours in advance. There were no issues, and despite our worries, our car was a few minutes early. The car was nice, nicer than the average cab, at least. The driver was professional and punctual, and our ride was smooth. We arrived with plenty of time to kill. The fare was cheaper than we anticipated, too, though I guess I'm used to the $45 flat rate from Manhattan. I see a lot of horror stories on Yelp and I know that consistency is important, but Northside did well by us. We needed to get to JFK, and Northside got us there, and I'd use them again if I needed a car in Brooklyn. If they flub it next time, I'll update accordingly, but until then, we're on good terms. read more

I tipped 5 for the service which was good service but I resent being told one price on the phone and charged another on arrival. This is the last time I use Northside. Lately, I've been unlucky with contacting Northside just for them to outsource to another car service company. And the experience has been absolutely horrible in all areas. I dont find out that they are not Northside drivers until its too late. Hoping Northside decides to end this practice of using others because it may seriously hurt their brand. What are the first two letters of "Northside"...? That's right, "NO", and that is exactly what I am saying after being dicked around one (or ten) too many times by these guys. NO MORE NORTHSIDE. Sure, they get to your door quick, but is not having to wait an extra 3 minutes really worth a driver being flat out rude and overcharging you? I'll be real, I have had a couple of good experiences with them...but for every 1 driver that is nice and fair, there are 5 that are complete jerkoffs. Picture this scene: A severely rainy day. I have to take my beloved cat to the animal hospital for urgent surgery in Park Slope. I call Northside and specifically let them know I have a cat and would also like to pay with a credit card (P.S. they charge you $2 extra for credit). These requests were repeated and confirmed TWICE. I was told it would be $18, which makes sense because THAT'S HOW MUCH IT'S COST EVERY OTHER TIME I'VE TAKEN THE EXACT SAME TRIP. Keep that in mind. Well, we get to the vet, and the driver can't take credit cards. So I have to run out into the rain and get cash...also, since I was now paying cash, the $2 credit card fee shouldn't apply, right? Wrong. When I gave the driver the $20, she refused to give me change back. So not only had the fee not gone down to $16..it had gone UP to $20. I argued her down to $18, but why should i have had to do that?! And don't get me started on the driver who wanted to charge me $22 on the way home (after, again, the dispatcher had told me $18) because I had a cat and insisted I hadn't let them know....EVEN THOUGH I REQUESTED A PET FRIENDLY DRIVER WHEN I CALLED. We have a corporate account with this car service which I will be asking our office manager to change to a different car service. The lack of professionalism from their dispatchers and drivers is shocking given they profess to be a service oriented luxury car service. their operators are rude, self-entitled, and don't listen to a thing you say. they often criticize me for giving them my location and pickup time information "in the wrong order" as if I am somehow supposed to have memorized how they prefer to have requests for cars made. My bad, for thinking I was the customer... Their drivers almost always have: 1. their dispatch radio at full volume 2. their car radio at full volume 3. their blue-tooth in talking on the phone on the few occasions i have asked a driver to turn down the volume on either radio, or stop talking on the phone, I have been igonred, refused, verbally abused, or at the very least treated as though I was asking them to eat a pile of shit for me. I was a little nervous using this company for a ride to JFK due to the bad reviews, but was pleasantly surprised. I called the day before to make a reservation, that morning I called to see if they could come a bit earlier. I was told 5 minutes. They came when we were getting the luggage down the stairs and the driver came to our aid and took the luggage. He was very pleasant. I never had any issues with them prior to last night. They always charge me $12 from Williamsburg to Brooklyn Heights. When the cab driver dropped me off, he tried to charge me $18. I was like, OH HELL NO, I've taken Northside to Brooklyn Heights over a dozen times. It's never $18. I told the guy the most I'd give him is $15. He took it, yelled at me, "CHEAP!" and then drove off. When I called the dispatcher to complain, he contacted the driver, who told him I had two stops, which was why he charged me the extra $6. The owner Enrique contacted me in response to this post to apologize and offer to get to the bottom of the situation. He said if I provided him with the information of my pick-up time, location, etc he would look into it and respond to me within 48 hours with the actions they took to remedy the situation and provide me with a courtesy ride or coupon. That was five days ago. I haven't heard anything. It's bad enough to treat a customer poorly to begin with, even worse to promise to make it right and then fail to do so. Wow, I'm seeing a ton of mixed reviews on Northside. Aside from maybe getting busy signals on a Saturday night, I've never had a problem with them. And I'm a born and bred Brooklynite. For the most part, whenever I'm in Williamsburg, too lazy to get on the train (or it's too late to get on the train) and I need to go somewhere within the immediate surrounding sections (Bushwick, Greenpoint, Bed-Stuy, Clinton Hill, Ft Greene, downtown BK, Park Slope), Northside is the first number I call. I've even had friends take Northisde from W'Burg to Queens and been absolutely fine. And since they are a "luxury" car service, sometimes you may even get lucky and score a cool chariot like a Navigator or an Escalade. Pricing is pretty average. But here's my absolute favorite thing about Northside: they keep cabs at JFK. I don't know if they have some sort of dispatch / base there or they have people on the roster 24/7 just roaming JFK, but Northside stays roaming JFK. It's a great tip my girlfriend and I recieved from a friend. At least TWICE now, I've flew home from wherever, called Northside while my plane was parking at the gate, told them what terminal I just landed at and they've arrived at the taxi pick-up area to scoop me. It sure beats waiting in the yellow taxi line or waiting for a random acquaintance (who isn't originally from NYC) to pick you up in a Zipcar. When you call, just make sure to get a flat rate quote, clarify what terminal you're at, nail down a specific pick-up point, find out the color / make of the car and inform them if you have to pick up luggage or not. I know that sounds like a lot but it's really not. By the way folks, always have a backup car service number to call in case whoever you call first is super late or doesn't show up at all. read more

Dispatch tells me one thing and then the driver will try to add a few dollars. Also, someone needs to get these guys a map or something. I shouldn't have to tell my driver how to get from one area of Brooklyn to another--if I knew how to get there by car, I'd probably drive myself. Called tonight for a car to take me to Queens and I had the worst experience. First off, the line was busy so I tried about 10 times to get through and I finally got through. Eight minutes waiting on hold, I finally get in touch with someone and I ask for a price quote to where I'm going and I get hung up on. I call back, and go through the same motions (another busy signal for a few minutes, then finally get through and I'm on hold for 5-8 minutes) and ask the question again...and I get hung up on...again. So I decide to try ONE MORE TIME...I go through the same motions, explain to the guy that I keep getting hung up on and he gives me an attitude, puts me on hold, and the next guy that answers was again rude. Sure he answered my question...told me my quote but then hung up on me. I thought they were having phone issues, but I think they'd be aware and inform me of that after I explained to two different people that I kept getting hung up on. I use Northside literally every other day for my commute in the mornings (screw the L train) and after this, I'll be seeking another car service. read more

This review comes after plenty of bad experiences. Tonight, I called, and was told (as always) "5 minutes." After 10 minutes I went outside. 20 minutes later I called North Side. Apparently the driver got into an accident and someone else would be over in- guess how long? YES! 5 minutes. 15 minutes later, I was picked up. We had two stops, both within 3 miles. I had a large number of bags as did my friend I was picking up. When stopping at his place, a bottle of homemade hot sauce broke and made a mess. The cab driver just stared at me after I asked if he had anything to clean up the mess. The pause was incredible. The last time I used them I was running late to work and had a bag with me because I was going to the airport afterwards. I live in Williamsburg and I was just going over the bridge to the LES. They stood me up at Newark Airport at midnight, despite a confirmed reservation. That's hard to forgive. I called them and they sent a car -- 45 minutes late. Very, very hard to forgive. Friendly drivers and nice vehicles go a long way to repairing that. But what should be a 5-star company is getting destroyed because they can't seem to make their commitments to pick up at newark and elsewhere. If you can't keep reservations, simple -- don't take them. I think the lesson here -- a consistent thread in these reviews -- is that Northside is great for an on-demand car service with Williamsburg, or heading out to the airports. But don't depending on them for pickup outside of Brooklyn. I gave them three stars due to numerous great experiences on 5 minutes' notice in and around Williamsburg. read more

Showed up one-minute early for the 9:30am reservation Monday morning. Knew where to go - although getting to LGA really isn't all that difficult Annoying dispatch radio, very annoying. It sounded like Sesame Street's count reading off numbers in spanish, letting go of the microphone after each number read, resulting in the "crshh" sound over and over. Exiting the cab I somehow gashed my head on the door, but thats my own fault. However, the driver never said anything or asked if I was ok. It was quite funny walking through the airport screening area with blood streaming down my forehead. One TSA agent was following me around staring at me, and finally asked me if I was ok. I'm surprised by the low rating for Northside. Northside has been my go-to car service for the four years I have been living in the neighborhood. You call a car and 99 times out of 100 they are there in five minutes with a clean, reliable car and a driver who knows where you are going. On more than one occasion a luxury Mercedes or the like has picked me up. When it's raining or during a busy time they sometimes require a follow-up call, but I'd much rather be waiting for Northside than trying to find a yellow cab in Manhattan at those busy times. If they are engaged, or take a long time to answer it is because it is a busy time and they are fully booked. Northside is the yard-stick for price. Dozens of times I have caught Northside to an address and another car service on the return journey. Northside is ALWAYS $1-5 cheaper than any competitor. In fact, I once called Northside during a ride from another Brooklyn car service to ask what they would charge for the same journey and had my driver talk to the Northside dispatch (in Spanish) and I ended up saving a couple of bucks on the fare (although Northside's quote was still lower). Also, I always call Northside from the tarmac when arriving at the airport to see if they have a car in the area. If they do I end up saving $10 on the ride home and don't have to join the taxi line or give the cab driver directions. I have about five car service numbers (from the Williamsburg/ Greenpoint area) in my phone, but Northside is always my go-to. read more

Traveling between arguably the two most popular transplant hoods in Brooklyn - Park Slope and Williamsburg - is no walk in the park. Trust me, I live in the former and my cousin lives in the latter, so this is a route where I've certainly put in the man hours to truly determine how to best get between the two without giving yourself a migraine. Technically, the G train will get you back and forth, but it's often slow, super-local, and seems to adhere to no real timetable. Metropolitan Av. from 7th Av. should take approximately 30 minutes underground, but I've been subterraneanly stuck on this exact route for thrice as long, no exaggeration. At a more reliable hour's quote, there's always the F to the L, or the R to the L, but then you are dipping into Manhattan, and even though you are underground and it should make no difference, it does. I'm tryin' to go Brooklyn to Brooklyn, people - not Brooklyn to Manhattan to Brooklyn! It took a few less-than-stellar trial runs with these subway options before I turned to a car service as my go-to, but when I did, I went with Northside Luxury. And honestly, I've never looked back. At a cost of approximately $14, this is the best rate I've come across for this particular route. And at the end of the day, price has got to be paramount when assessing car services. Some of Northside's drivers may quote you a few dollars higher than this, but you can always talk them back down. Not to mention, any time I've called, I don't think I've ever been told anything other than "five minutes ::click::." The drivers aren't the saltiest I've encountered, but they certainly aren't there for clever conversation, either. Still, almost every vehicle that shows up is relatively new (or at least clean enough to appear relatively new), and half of the time, I've gotten one of those baller, black SUV whips. Is it the most affordable? Not unless you have $2.25 and tons of patience for the MTA's lesser-catered lines. But, hey - time is money, too! So, if you were to ask me - is Northside the most reliable, reasonable, and accessible option? My answers would have to be - yes, yes, and yes. read more

Use Northside about 2x / week and rarely have anything less than great service. Cars are always clean and nice, never had a junky vehicle. Most of the drivers are quite amicable, an added bonus. On busy mornings there might be a little wait for someone to pick up the phone line. Longest I've ever waited on the line was 7 minutes, which is long, but the cars are fast to arrive, so I'll give them a break. Things to remember: - If you are using a card, mention it on the phone so they are aware. Many drivers have the mobile card payment box, but not all. If they don't they'll have to call in the CC#. - Sometimes there are discrepancies on the fare (it's the driver's job to remember) but if you think something is a bit high, as them to show you the rate in their rate book (they all have one in their car, at least they're supposed to). I find that rates are always reasonable. - They also have a website if you want to book cars ahead of time. Suggested a friend use that when booking a car to the airport for an early delivery -- worked perfectly. read more

What's with all the Northside haters on Yelp? I've used every car service in Williamsburg/Greenpoint many times over the past decade, and Northside is consistently the best - almost always on time (or early), often arriving for the pick-up in 5 minutes or less; almost always with very nice clean cars, friendly drivers. And their drivers also REALLY know their way around the city (especially Brooklyn and Manhattan), they know the shortcuts, they know where to avoid traffic. They'll get you where you need to go, and in good time too. These guys are great. And their prices are just as good or better than all the comparable services. (Tip: Get a price quote on the phone to lock in a decent price estimate with Northside, and don't get stuck haggling with individual drivers). Keep in mind that most of these car services - Northside included - use freelance drivers, with the car service acting as the dispatch. So, yeah, you might occasionally end up with a bad/late/confused/irate/price-bumping driver or something. And SNAFU's happen. But just let Northside know you had a bad experience, and more than likely the bad driver you had to deal with will get replaced or penalized... Northside runs a tight ship from what I can tell, and the less reliable drivers don't last long. (That said, it's unbelievable how rude some people in NY are to their local car services and drivers - just expecting cars to magically appear exactly the moment they need them, as if traffic doesn't exist; and expecting the drivers to drive silently like servants that should never get to talk on the phone, eat a snack, or listen to the radio - lighten up people! The service industry is not all fun and games - treat your taxi drivers and waiters like real human beings, not second-class servants. It's not the 1700's.
