Have used this car service for approx 5 years and overall very very positive experiences. I like how the drivers actually know the best local routes, instead of a random Uber person that says "eh, I don't really drive in Brooklyn"..not helpful!! I've often had to use them to go from Brooklyn to Manhattan but I'll no longer be in want of their services after yet another trip that would have been faster and more comfortable on the subway. I'd rather just take the subway back to the UWS. Their dispatchers are extremely rude and often taxis come to the wrong address after clearly repeating your location on the phone several times. When they do come, often the price quoted by the dispatcher differs from the driver. Twice I've heard $25 on the phone and $35 from the driver but usually they tack on $5. After crossing into Manhattan, the drivers will always deliberately take the slowest, most meandering route to your destination. The drivers must get paid by the hour because despite requests, they will go up 6th Ave at 20 mph even at 7 AM on a Sunday. Be prepared for at least a 45 minute ride anywhere past 59th St. You might as well take the subway. No surprises on the fare and takes about 45 minutes anyways. read more

Been a customer for 15 years. Now looking at other options. Story: It's summertime. 5pm. 100% Humid and somewhat hot. I need a cab for JFK and call Northside. They send me a car with broken AC. OK, sometime these things break and it is unexpected. However, the driver has been aware of this all day long. Driver says "just one customer ask for AC all day long". I guess I'm number two?!!? Then he says I should have asked for AC. Then I call Northside and guy tells me "I'm just the operator". Then he said managers went home at 4pm. Never apologized, never suggested a discount or refund, and I'm still waiting for a manager to call me. Also they seem to always take forever to pick up the phone and several times in past year were late or didn't show up. Look elsewhere... read more

My car broke down last weekend. i called northside to get to my destination and the driver knew the fastest route to get there. I lost my phone in that same car and got it back the next day. i wasnt late for my meeting, got my phone back and now have a very good reliable car service to call. Wow. I am shocked to see all the haters. I use Northside pretty frequently and I'm always generally pleased with the service. The one downside is the phone demeanor. I mean sometimes it's ok but for the most part it's so so. They are usually short on the phone and not very courteous. At first I was worried they wouldn't have my number to call when they arrived etc. but I guess it comes up and saves when you call in. I only know this because nervous nelly me had to call and check. I also tried to book a car for the airport once and they said no just call when you land, which is not what I wanted to do. I like to be prepared - can't you tell? I just booked one online (works just as well). As for the service in person - always great. The drivers are always 5 minutes early and pleasant. I had them pick me up in TriBeCa the other day after the BF had oral surgery and the driver was so patient while I worked him into the car all drugged up. Haha I get early early morning cars into work all the time and it's great - quick and on time. Great rates too - wicked cheap to the airport and my cars from Williamsburg to SoHo/TriBeCa - $15. Snapppppp. I only wish I could set up an account like I have with messengers I use so I just call in and give my account number and they charge it to my credit card automatically. (I asked if I could and they told me $200+ monthly minimum to do so... Lame) read more

four years ago I would have given this place 4 or 5 stars. It was always less than "fy mini" and I could get through easily without being put on hold for 10 minutes. Not so anymore. They need to increase their fleet or something because it's basically impossible to get a car from these guys at certain hours, and if it's raining, forget it. It's also no longer "fy mini" anymore but more like "ay mini" :( Metroline is much quicker. read more

I have lived in NY for 4 years and use these guys when not cabbing or taking uber... But I don't think I will anymore. Yes it's the holidays and busy but after being on hold 10 min, then promised a car pick up in 5 min. Waiting 10, calling back ... Being out in hold for another 15 min, then being told car will arrive in 3 min.. But shows up in 10... I'm now late for my destination. So moral of the story is, if you use them, call at least an hour in advance . I used to recommend to my friends visiting but I think I'll tell them just to uber. Less stressful. I've used Northside Car Service going to JFK a week before Christmas. I personally didn't have any problems. I called from inside my apt, started to drag my bags outside and there they were. Yes, the cars could be cleaner on the inside but could they possibly be more prompt or convenient?...I don't think so. A must, must, must have is to have them in your mobile phone. Just remember, when you call them, be ready for them because 9 times out of 10, I guarantee you they will be at your door before you get there...So call when you are absolutely and positively ready to be picked up. Over all I usually have a pretty decent experience. $10 bucks around Brooklyn, $20something into the City, and $38 to the airport. I've used them because I think its a good deal, and the cars are always super clean and nice. I used them to get home from JFK last week though and found myself wanting to barf. My driver not only was cutting his finger nails while driving me around, but constantly had the radio on blast as well as his walkie talkie, my migraine was killing me and he wouldn't turn it off when I asked. After my second no show, I have to cut these guys off. I didn't call them for a few months after they never even showed up this one time. I called another company that came in 5 minutes, Brooklyn Car Service. Tonight, BCS had no cars available, so I thought well maybe that no show at Northside was a fluke. If they come as quoted, I'll call them in the morning for my ride to LGA. I was going to cab over to see my Boo before leaving town for a week. I really wanted to see him and we had a 2 hour window of time. Northside quoted me at 7 -1 0 mins. at 17 mins I called and was told a town car is assigned to you and they're on their way. At 38 minutes I called and all I got was "uh, sorry, the driver told me 10 minutes." At this point, my window has closed and my boyfriend and I both are frustrated and very dissapointed. They killed our little special goodbye moment. No Kisses for me. =( My guess is that they string people along until a car actually comes. All they have to do is say they don't have a car available. How hard is that?!? They're not honest, nor can be trusted to be on time. Next time, I'll take the G to Fulton and catch a Target-based cab. work the system! read more

Living in bburg, Northside is prob. the most reliable car/taxi service. Though they have NEVER been late and have always gotten me to my destinations in record time, for some reason, they are unreliable when it comes to folks who choose to pay with credit card. At this point I've used them about 5-6 times in the last 4 months. Every time I pay with credit card, scheduling my rides ahead of time and requesting that they charge it to my card on file. Every time, i get to my destination the driver seems completely unaware that I am paying with credit and has to call the hub and make sure that they have charged me as needed. The very last time I rode however, the driver knew i wanted to pay with credit and had a credit card machine with him. About 15 minutes into the ride, he says "uh oh." He proceeds to tell me that rather than charging me the $36 my ride cost, he's in fact charged my card $360. I was furious to say the least. He called the hub immediately to get them to cancel the charge, but then realized that he had to physically go back to make sure the charge was removed. I ended up getting his name, car number and cell in the event that the charge wasn't removed. Needless to say everything worked out. Since the ride situation in bburg is limited, I will continue to use them, however, this gives me reason to decrease them to only 3 stars. read more

I just used Northside Car Service for the first time for a quick trip from Clinton Hill to Williamsburg with some luggage. I waited for about 5 minutes to get through to someone to make the arrangements and when I did the guy was a bit short with me, but overall nothing terrible. The car was a couple of minutes late, but the driver was pleasant and got me to my destination without any trouble. My only question is - they brag about all cars being equipped with GPS (which mine was), but the driver didn't punch in my destination address, so I had to remind him where we were going a couple of times. read more

The longest I have ever had to wait for these guys was 15 minutes. And that's because it was about 3:30 in the morning on a holiday if I recall right. Normally it is about 3 to 5 minutes. A lot of times I will call and by the time I walk down, there is a car waiting. So they are pretty fast for the Williamsburg neighborhood. I can't remember any cars I have been in that were not clean. And I do agree with other posters here in that it feels like it is just people saying, "Oh. Someone needs a ride? Well I will come over and pick them up." But hey. Who cares. Right? I need a ride, Northside has the cars. It sound like a good relationship to me. read more

I booked a car to pick me up in south Williamsburg at 10:00am to go to LaGuardia. I was running late and didn't get to the street until 10:07. No car was out there, and I worried I had missed it. I called northside and told them I needed a car still and within five minutes one arrived! The car was clean, the driver was polite. It was a quiet, calm ride. I paid $31 ($26 fare, $5 tip). Pretty great deal considering Future Cab quoted me $52 (tip included) for the same ride. read more

Excelent service!! My brother has used Northside ever since he moved to the Brooklyn area. We have used it numerous times when we visit. Not only are they super convenient, they always arrive within 5-10 minutes. They don't try and take the long way around and will ask for a quick route if they are not familiar with the area/location. There is no way that I would not use Northside when I am in the area. read more

WARNING! Get the dispatchers name on the phone when he quotes you a price otherwise youre screwed. Time after time the dispatcher quotes $5+ less than the cabbie, so without a name you can argue all night about the final cost. According to the reviews here, it seems this is a continuing practice with this company. They are reliable in terms of pickup time but Im not sure ill use them anymore! read more

This morning I took Northside to midtown from my home in Greenpoint. I was going to work and I have done the ride many times - this is always a $20 fare, the most I have paid is 22 or 25 INCLUDING A TIP. It is right across the Queensboro bridge...and I was told by the dispatcher it would be a 20 fare. The driver didn't say anything the whole ride, and of course at the end he took my card and after I said $20 he already swiped it for $28. When I called the dispatcher I had spoken to 15 minutes earlier she did some fake calculations - literally heard her punching a calculator and then claimed that it is "always $26." The driver would then not give back my credit card until I signed which I did not want to, THIS IS ILLEGAL and it made me feel unsafe. He had my credit card and he kept lurching the car forward so I couldn't get out. I always have to deal with this stuff from them but I usually get the fair price. This time I'm letting my credit card company and the better business bureau deal with it. So awful. read more

Why so many negative reviews?? I've been using these guys since I moved to the neighborhood... and that's longer ago than I care to admit. Just make sure you get the fare quote on the phone when you call. Then, when you reach your destination, tell the driver how much it was. I've never had a problem. Their cars are awesome. These guys are GREAT! I've used them several times to get me home after a late night out. The people hating on Northside have unreasonable complaints. Northside is a local car service company. my boyfriend and I have used this car service for a year and a half now. He takes it into the city EVERY work day. it's a cheap ride right over the bridge and he hates the stressful morning commute on the trains. Once, a driver didn't want to go over the bridge because it had 'too much traffic' so he took him to the J train instead even at his insistence of waiting through the traffic. so that was random but we gave it many more chances after that. another time, I took it to park slope and the driver decided to add his own tip to my total. since i took this car I politely asked him if that seemed a little too high. he got really defensive and threatened to call dispatch. so i said ok, do it. and he did and it turned out that the fare was $4 lower than he quoted me. Last night we called for a car to the airport about 2:30 hrs before the flight. the first time we called they said 10 min, 15 min later we called again and they said 5 min, then another 15 min later we called again and the guy said 4 min. By the time he came it was 1:45hr away from the flight departure time and by the time we got to the airport we had just missed our flight, which was the last flight out that day. The driver wanted to charge another fee to drive us back and it was just ridiculous. the driver stayed on the jammed highway even though my bf instructed him to take the other way which had almost no traffic as indicated by the gps on his phone. we are never taking this car service ever again. he's also going to find a new service to take him to work everyday. the driver said he was stuck in traffic. ok, that's fine, there was traffic, but they could've told us that on the phone and we could've called someone else instead of keep telling us 5 min each time. :-( p.s. just wanted to add that when I first started using this service it was great. the last 2 months of service has been atrocious. The inconsistency is not worth stressing about. I'm sure I can find a better car service at this point. read more

I've been using Northside since 2006 and they've always been there for me. They are who I call during weird last minute emergencies. One of which just occurred on Monday at 1am when I needed to get deep into LI and they were very accommodating and were at JFK in like 2 minutes. Based on other reviews, calling ahead doesn't work out (which would make me go insane) but I've never had that experience since I'm always a last minute caller. Used these guys for way too long. Put up with the verbal abuse over money (dispatcher price vs driver), the cars that were perfumed with three or four 99 cent air fresheners, the refusal to run ac, the constant cell phone talking, and the bad music.......so what, right??? until now. got a cab around 10am to drive me and my niece to jfk. i noticed that the driver was sweaty, but paid no attention to it. HUGE MISTAKE! after about 10 minutes in the car, while on the bqe, the driver started "brake driving".....he would swerve in and out of lanes, get on a car's tail, then slam on the brakes...change lanes, and repeat. ugh. so i asked him to slow down, and i asked him to just stay in the lane we were in, as traffic was moving at a great pace and all he was doing was reckless driving for no good reason. he ignored me. he was blinking as if trying to stay awake and VERY fidgety with his hands. he was also gripping the steering wheel as if he needed to make himself focus. this guy was either sleep deprived, or coming off of a heavy binge...and it got worse. i asked him, again, to slow down and stay in one lane...it angered him so he started to just accelerate, then slam on brakes, then repeat. so i looked over at his credentials, only to see A LICENSE FOR A WOMAN NAMED ANNA, AND NO CAB NUMBER!!!!!! so the rest of the ride was me leaning into the front and making sure he stayed awake, him driving like a bat out of hell, and my 15 year old niece white knuckling the door. i called northside and complained. they just kept putting me on hold. i supposedly talked to the manager, who told me that- without the guys name - they couldn't do anything...when i told him to look at his dispatch records he hung up on me. 311 report, and now i take metro. read more

WORST CAR SERVICE nearly killed me and my family. Our driver fell asleep twice at the wheel while driving us to JFK airport. I felt the car jerk so I looked up to see our drivers eyes closed. I can not begin to tell you how livid I was. We even had our 18-month old with us. When I yelled at the driver to wake up the driver denied falling asleep. When I complained to their office they were zero help with zero remorse. I will never ride with Northside again. Putting my life at risk is not worth it. read more

Every time I've reached someone and they've promised me a car, it has arrived promptly and gotten me to my destination at a reasonable price. Please take your business elsewhere. The two young women that answer the phone are the rudest I have ever experienced. This has been my experience for the last several months. These dispatchers are just snotty nose brats at best. There is way to handle customers that will keep them coming back. In fact, it is actually easier to be nice to customers than being rude. As a result, I am actively telling friends, colleagues, and doormen NOT to use their service. I have been using Northside for more than 7 years. Occasionally, I have to reserve in advance to accommodate getting my dogs to boarding on the way to the airport. I was told last night and again by the rude service girls that I must be mistaken, they don't book in advance for dog friendly cars. News to me. She told me I was wrong. These are easy problems to solve but these kids just don't care. Here is some advice to the young girls: (1) tell the customer to hold and that you will be right back with them; (2) reach out to the regular dog friendly car drivers and ask if they are interested in the pickup - few drivers turn down advance airport requests; (3) schedule with customer. See, how easy was that? You probably did not lose the patronage of a long term valuable customer who has been sending colleagues and friends your way for a long time. read more

Northside are crooks. I live in greenpoint and took a car from broadway avenue at keep to my apartment near mcgolrick park. Typically the cost from my home to Bedford ave (done many times) was the minimum. The driver charged us $19 for a drive that is less than 10 minutes. Do not use northside. They will rip you off. Use metroline or take a yellow cab. You'll thank yourself later. read more
