Pickleball with Mae…read more This is a review for my one on one Pickleball lessons with Coach Mae. EXPERIENCE: I had zero experience playing Pickleball. I have seen the sport getting more and more popular on social media, so I decided to take lessons. COMMUNICATION: Mae has an official website, that has her email/contact information. I like how organized and user friendly it is. She also has a list of her pricing plans, if you want to do private/group class sessions with her. Website: https://www.pickleballwithmae.com/ *For class sessions, she teaches at the Carson City MAC. They are taught indoors in the gym facility. *Private lessons like mine can be conducted at a local park. I recommend scheduling them in the morning, so it is not too hot. Mae responded to my questions right away and we were able to set up a time that worked for my schedule. INSTRUCTION: Mae has a background of being a teacher and softball coach, so I appreciated how she modeled how to use the paddle and showed me how to move my arms and legs to make contact with the ball. "Placement over power," is her mantra. I learned that you don't have to hit the ball super hard or be quick with your feet. It's all about the position of your paddle. She observed my technique and gave me feedback on how to adjust my swing and footwork in a very positive and kind manner. I am learning so much from her and gaining so much confidence! I highly recommend Mae if you are interested in getting Pickleball Lessons! Have fun! :)

Pickleball is still a cool healthier alternative to tennis. I am also getting back into tennis soon (I hope). Against my wife's wishes, I just bought 4 rackets to leave at my daughter's courts. My wife knows I "waste" money buying stuff I never use... My buddy who plays in League (not here) and who is younger than me (a day or two, lol) is really passionate about this sport. He is traveling the US just to play! I doubt that I will ever get that serious, I just want and need to exercise more, to offset my drinking and eating, lol. I will see him soon and share/discuss this place. Full bar, small kitchen/menu, etc. Self service beer taps. Very small "pro shop," merchandise, etc. Atmosphere - Cool new facility. Decent size, 28k square feet. Controlled environment. It is way too hot to be playing outside. Plenty of mall parking. Open 7 days a week, 6am to 10pm. Service - Good, welcoming. Price - $68 monthly or $672 annual membership + additional costs; see pictures or website. Expensive. Many different pricing models, see website. Pricing for non member drop ins also, etc. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since November 11, 2024 and to your 6 "partnership" locations.

It is well run usually and sports excellent courts that are surfaced regularly. The 6 courts are divided into different purposes including main courts, challenge courts and beginner courts. Drop ins happen every morning, all week long. There are people of all skills out here split into 2 camps. Those that have something to prove and those that don't. Those that don't will work with and teach new players. They are encouraging and play to the level of the players on the court they are playing against. Then there are those that have something to prove. They will trounce new players with no qualms. I have witnessed multiple 11-0 scores on the "beginner" court where the new players don't even get a service. It leaves those beginners not wanting to play anymore. This is the bad part of this club, because this game should be accessible and fun for all. All and all a very good club, just beware the try hards going crazy in the beginners on the "beginner" court!

The competition was very good but my initial experience was that people were not welcoming or friendly towards visitors or guests. I decided to practice my serves by myself in one of the public courts and fortunately other members reached out and invited me to play for which I was very grateful. While I am an advocate for club membership in order to organize play and enhance the overall experience, there should be a free guest policy for players who are visiting. The competition was definitely worthy, but the negative initial reception was so off-putting and un-welcoming that I would play elsewhere where the people are more friendly and inclusive. For me, it's not just about playing well, it's about fun and community. Club Drop-In Play Schedule Sunday-Friday 7:00 AM-12:00 PM 5:00 PM-10:00PM

With 8 courts, it's the largest sized indoor pickleball facility in the area so far! YBA stands for Youth Basketball Academy. The basketball courts have pickleball court lines painted on. YBA is located on Tinker Rd, which is a cross street of Industrial Ave and is close to the Sunset Blvd 65 exit. You're likely to see many semi trucks parked on Tinker, so that's when you'll know when to turn. Keep an eye out for the Tinker Rd street signs. You'll see Hardwood Palace, a different basketball facility, before YBA, but just drive a little further where you'll see more parked cars. There are 3 beginner courts (first 3 courts closest to the front of the building on your left), 3 intermediate courts (next 3 courts on your left), and 2 advanced courts (opposite the intermediate courts across the walkway/seating on your right). When you arrive, find the paddle rack for your skill level and put it on either the blue half or white half. A spinner arrow on the paddle rack indicates which color gets the next open court, and the 4 paddles closest to the middle in that color play next. When you win, you place your paddle on the blue side. When you lose, you place your paddle on the white side. This system allows players to mingle more and adjusts for skill level. So clever! You can ask Coach Karly for an explanation or look for the poster that explains the paddle rack system. Create a free account on Playtime Scheduler ( https://playtimescheduler.com/ ) to sign up for classes. YBA offers a variety of classes: - Free Intro lesson Fri 9 am - 3 & Me with Coach Isaac on Mon (3 classes), Wed (2 classes), or Fri (2 classes) - Footwork special clinics - Free Drills class Wed 12 pm - Power Play drills class Fri 12 pm (This appears to fill up fast and sounds similar to the Live Ball format.) There is a popular King/Queen's Quest every Thursday at 12 pm. Indoor Pickleball is open 8 am to 3 pm Monday to Friday. Open play is scheduled 10 am to 12 pm on those days. Pickleball is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Accepted forms of payment are cash, Venmo, and Zelle. For shotgun tournaments, it's wise to pay in advance to reserve your spot. Shotgun just means you don't come with a doubles partner. You'll get matched with random partners. Coach Isaac is a friendly, energetic, and skillful coach, happy and eager to share his pickleball knowledge. He and Coach Karly have DUPR ratings of 4.0. They are both very sweet and welcoming. I was shocked they recognized and knew me by name on my first visit given I have probably conversed with Karly only once before and am a lower level player who has never played a game with them before. I was so impressed with their Facebook page full of pictures of many smiling pickleball players. They try to learn people's names and acknowledge everyone. Inclusivity...the true pickleball social spirit! YBA attracts many pickleball players when it's raining, so be prepared to wait, but it was exciting playing with different people. I think YBA would also be great during 95+ degree weather. I get so tired of applying sunscreen. I heard from one player that hospital workers coming off the graveyard shift go to YBA to play pickleball before heading to bed! Diehards. Interesting niche clientele. Websites: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61564347788272 https://www.ybadawgs.com/events-page Membership is only $59/month or $49/month if you're 55+. Drop in is $15, so you'll get your money's worth in just 4 visits. Rates changed in 2025. If you're new to pickleball, YBA would be a great place to learn and grow. Pickleball is the most addictive, sociable, and accessible sport ever!

I kept asking the coaches, "Are you sure she's going to be able to swim enough to be on the team?" They kept reassuring me that she'd be keeping up with the others in no time. Three weeks after the swim practice started, I stood at the side of the pool in disbelief, as my little darling jumped in the deep end, swam freestyle with proper breathing technique, and made it to the other end of the pool! As I stood there cheering for her with tears streaming down my face, I realized that almost all activity on the pool deck had stopped as all the parents and kids stopped to cheer my daughter on in her huge accomplishment! We have the friendliest team! The best family-centered club! The most amazing coaches! We've participated in two seasons each of spring/summer and fall swim, and we can't wait to start season #3!

I understood the commitment and chose to move forward because of the convenience of the location near my home. Unfortunately, my experience as a member has been disappointing from the start. Getting basic information has been exhausting -- phone calls go unanswered, emails don't go through, and when I finally reached someone, I was told the club is somehow "separate" from the swim team while also connected to it. Most of what I've learned has come from navigating the website myself or asking other swim team parents, who have honestly been more helpful than the staff. Communication overall has been poor. I constantly receive emails asking for donations and fundraising support for facility renovations, yet Imsomehow important weekly updates and member information emails don't come through. For the cost, the value also feels questionable. Membership dues are higher than many gym memberships, yet the amenities are limited to a pool, and tennis courts. On top of monthly dues, I was still required to pay separately for my daughter to attend a school field trip hosted at the club. The atmosphere also feels very exclusive and cliquish. Many of the board members appear to be friends, family, or married to one another. I was sold on the idea of joining a welcoming "community," but I have not felt welcomed at all. Whenever concerns are raised, the response is usually "I'm new" or "we have a new system," with very little effort made to actually address or resolve the issues. Overall, this has not been the positive community experience that was promised.
