Truckee River Regional Park is a fantastic spot for outdoor fun, especially during the winter. We came here for some snow play to kill time before out hotel room was ready, and it did not disappoint. There is plenty of space to sled, build snowmen, and just enjoy the beautiful snowy scenery. The river flowing by is very beautiful especially covered in snow. The park is well maintained, with clean bathrooms conveniently located nearby, which is always a plus when you're out with kids. If you have a dog, it's a great place for a walk, too. It was very snow covered so I was able to just go into the tennis courts and let my dog run around off leash. There are poop bags free of charge available so please use them when out and about with your dog. Parking was plentiful, so there's no stress about finding a spot. Whether you're here for some winter activities or just a stroll, Truckee River Regional Park has something for everyone. read more

6.24.23: On Saturday I was lucky enough to attend the 3rd annual Truckee Reggae Fest. I've been here many times before for live music and other various events. First of all, Truckee is beautiful in itself. Secondly, the park is green and well kept. Public restrooms were open and clean. Lastly, the amphitheatre part of the park is tucked away and slopes down like a traditional amphitheatre and is a grassy hill. More towards the stage, the ground flattens out and is landscaped with hard sand, if you know what I mean. The sound projects really nicely throughout the amphitheatre and is one of my favorite local-ish venues. Whether you're a local or a tourist or just happened to stumble by in passing travels, I highly suggest checking out an event here or just making a day for a picnic. What a great park! This park is huge and beautiful. There's fields for games, a softball field, a skate park, and a jungle gym. The play area is nice and has lots of different options. They have a big play structure, as well as a small area for 2-5 year olds and swings. There's a train track running around the kids play area. This park would be perfect in the summer, as there are lots of trees for shade! The bathrooms were not in service when I went, but it could just be due to the time of year. read more

Another big park in this area. It has some fantastic scenery. Truckee River Regional Park is my favorite of those in northern Tahoe. Lots to see around here. You can also find many facilities for athletics, cooking, and other things. It covers a big area. Located on the south side of town where there's mostly not a lot going on. That's one of the appeals of this. Lots of scenery here to take in. The area is wide open except for the many trees. Good to come here in any weather because the scenery is always beautiful. The summers are good for cookouts and hiking. Many people come to Truckee for the skiing and this is a popular place for some of that, so that time it can get busy. There's also an ice rink for some other winter activities besides just skiing. Come here any time of the year and it's fun. It's a good place for being outdoors. The weather can change quickly so bring seasonably appropriate clothing and other things. read more

Beautiful and peaceful. One of the benefits of living in Northern Nevada, not far from this mountain town of Truckee. Love the smell of the pine trees. Spring in this area is lovely with the weather being warmer but still having snow on the ground in some areas. Not many people out and about but it was Easter Sunday and I imagine people were visiting with their families doing their holiday thing. Pleasant walk and photo op. Some were out playing baseball. Some were riding bikes on the trail. Somewhere there is/was a ice rink. Didn't see it though read more

Came here to ice-skate in lieu of skiing and snowboarding--what a great decision! $6 unlimited skating $3 rentals (warm) $ cheap snacks and warm drinks Lights were strung up above the rink to give it a slightly festive feel. Pretty romantic once the lights actually came on. The rink itself is outdoors and surrounded by some bleachers and tall pines so it got dark relatively fast but there was a beautiful and clear view of the mountains, trees, and sky in the distance. Someone was playing music loud enough for everyone to hear but it wasn't too imposing. I came here mid-afternoon on a Saturday and it wasn't very crowded. It's a good-sized rink for families and friends who aren't pro since the rink is relatively small and circular. Only one advanced skater was seen practicing their spins and thankfully they were not trying to take up the whole rink with a routine. I felt like I had all the room I needed and more and nothing beats skating outside to a view! read more

We decided to do something outdoors today (4/16/18) and one of my friend's coworkers mentioned this trail. The park itself has a lot of facilities including a BBQ area, ball fields, a disk golf course, an amphitheater, and much more. Granted it was snowing so mostly everything was covered but I can definitely see this park active during the summer. The trail besides the river is paved and very easy. The sounds of the Truckee River rushing with force from the continued snow melt was therapeutic. The light snow added a nice effect too. Highly recommend if you're looking for a nice stroll. read more

I came here for ice skating the past weekend. My group and I arrived at around 4 pm on a Saturday and it wasn't super crowded. The prices here are super reasonable. It was $6 for admission and $3 for skate rentals, with no time limit. The rink is situated outdoors, in the middle of a park with lots of trees. The rink itself was a bit small compared to your typical indoor rink, but I was still able to skate pretty fast and I had a lot of fun! If you're hoping to practice some pro moves though, this is probably not the rink for you. What really made this place stand out was the ambiance. The vibe here is super nice and romantic. They have string lights above the rink that lit up as the sun started setting. The sky, the trees, the air, were all perfect. There were also plenty of benches if you want to rest or just observe. They also sell hot chocolate, hot cider, and some other snacks. If you've decided to sit out on skiing/snowboarding, I highly recommend coming here to spend your afternoon! read more

This park is really cool for toddlers. There is plenty of shaded areas. Two play structures, one for older kids and one for younger kids. Surrounding the park is a toddler train that operates during summer months. This park is equipped with picnic tables, bbqs, grass area, bathrooms, and a skatepark. read more

Cute parked tucked away in Truckee. This is where local softball leagues play during the summer. This cute park offers more than meets the eye. A great place to hold birthday parties because their is much for the children to do. Besides the playground, they offer train rides to children of all ages. They even have locals dressed as a sheriff and miner walking around the park to engage the children. The sheriff just stop to talk with us and warned us to watch our dog because they were planning a train robbery and a couple gun shots would be going off. How cute is that!! Another park employee came around to give coloring books and train tokens to all the children. There is also a skate park for the older children. Wow, what a place! read more

We were looking for parks near our cabin rental and this one popped up. There are two different structures for playing and we're completely covered by trees for tons of shade. We actually ended up playing on the skate park more (sans wheels) the kids loved to run through the skate park and try and climb the walls. There is a restroom there and it looks like a fun small train runs during the warmer months. read more

I am not a resident or local of the Truckee area but this is definitely a hidden gem. Made a day trip from the Bay Area with my siblings and cousins and I would happily go again. The ice rink was beautifully set and surrounded by a copious amount of snow! A site for sore eyes as a California citizen, being in a drought and the sierras not receiving much snow at all the past few years. The price was affordable, they have a snack shack, offer skate rentals and was not at all crowded like most all of the ski resort areas are. read more

Truckee Donner Rec and Parks does a great job of providing venues for a variety of events: picnics, barbecues, weddings, concerts, softball, and community events. There are constant improvements to facilities and additions to events. There is a well-loved disc golf course, a picnic area that converts to an ice rink in the winter, a skateboard park, softball fields, and the front end of the Legacy Trail... a wonderful walk and bike trail along the Truckee River. read more

Hidden gem indeed! After looking for the right spot, we put down our chairs and just enjoyed the Truckee River. The sound of the rushing water is beautiful enough but when you can get down to the water and swim, even better. Chilly but perfect when it's 95*! After a couple hours, we went up top and watched a little baseball game before heading out. Fun place! Would love to rent a cabin along this river! read more

This disc golf park is only barely second to that at Golden Gate Park in SF. It's a short ride from Reno and well worth it. Very challenging because of the tree density. Nice tees, pretty well marked. Free of course. Love it here. read more

This is mostly a review of their disc golf course. I've been playing for quite some time and have always been able to eventually find the basket. We were only able to play 7 because hole 8 is a hike and there are no signs to help you. Parking was fine. The rest of the park is fine from baseball fields, to the playground, and grass areas to play. My kids had fun at the non disc golf part. read more

Attended the Wednesday Night free concert this week. Got there early to get a good seat. I have never seen so many unsupervised children running loose in my life. There was no dance floor as the kids took it over. Kids were running all over the place, into the crowds, jumping over people & chairs, stepping on folks and generally out of control. I saw two different children, about 2, fall from the wall separating the "dance floor" war zone from the grassy area. No parenting anywhere to be seen. Never again. The real irony here is the prohibit dogs which are generally much better behaved than any of those kids. read more
