I have only had experience with Northwest Apartments for 3 months as of this review, so please take it with a grain of salt. I will update this review later after living with them longer. I went on two tours at different buildings managed by Northwest Apartments (in Capitol Hill and the U-District) in May, and the two building managers I met (Drew and Palmer) were both great! Super friendly, very responsive over text, answered all my questions both online and in person, didn't make me feel rushed (I'm the type of renter who comes into a tour with a measuring tape and huge prepared list of questions). Palmer was so patient and flexible with my scheduling (I had another tour earlier that day across town that ran super late, then I hit traffic). Drew ended up becoming my building manager, and after I signed the lease he even took extra time to let me come back in and measure my apartment so I could order furniture prior to my move-in date. Northwest Apartment's online portal is very easy and intuitive to use, for applying, signing the lease, submitting renters insurance information, paying rent and utilities, submitting maintenance requests, etc. Since moving in, I've submitted two not-urgent maintenance requests and received a prompt response from the Northwest Apartments maintenance team. (Thank you, LaRissa!) Mysterious line/bump appeared on my wall? Maintenance staff came by to look at it that week. Noticed some ants in my kitchen? They sent a professional pest control person in the next day! I've also noticed their attentiveness elsewhere -- for example, recently I noticed that they padded all of the dumpster lids so they don't slam and disturb the neighbors anymore. Nice! I've only lived here for two months now, and I will update this review if anything changes, but for now I am very satisfied with my experience with Northwest Apartments. read more

I wrote an initial review several months ago for one employee in particular who went above and beyond and exceeded my expectations of Northwest Apartments. Sean C. is def one of the best! I've had the pleasure of working with Elatish S., a new building manager at my apartment building, The Tuscany, and she's done such a wonderful job over the last few months that I just had to show her some respect! To be honest, I've had some less than stellar interactions with some other Northwest Apartments employees (my individual experiences may not be the same experience others may have had with these employees and may not reflective of job they may have done overall). I try to give people the benefit of the doubt and don't leave negative reviews unless something egregious has happened but I certainly was in no hurry to sing their praises on Yelp. My overall opinion of the company suffered as result of these interactions and I was pretty convinced it might be time to seek greener pastures with another property management company at the end of my lease. Elatish S. has been a much needed breath of fresh air and she has single handedly renewed my belief that Northwest Apartments is a great company to rent from. I'd heard that Northwest Apartments is trying to improve it's image and is working harder to exceed the expectations of their renters. Bringing Elatish S. onboard a few months ago has gone a long way towards achieving that goal and I can honestly say that she consistently exceeds my expectations! It's been a rough year and a half for me, as it has been for so many of us. The pandemic has left me unemployed and that comes with a whole host of other problems and setbacks as you can imagine being long-term term unemployed can cause in someone's life. Add to that just the common day to day issues that might arise when renting an apartment and it's fair to say that I've needed to be in touch with the building manager at least a handful of times recently. Elatish S. always responds to my emails and phone calls within 48 hours, if not that very same day. She is incredibly business oriented and exceedingly professional, and yet she has the kind of personality that makes professionalism also seem warm and inviting. She seems to be naturally upbeat and genuinely cares about her tenants. Did I mention that she manages TWO properties with several dozen tenants in all and yet she is prompt, thorough, and really takes the time to make sure her tenants feel listened to and understood. She even gave me a warm "congratulations" on the new job I just got (most money I've ever made!) and it's not unusual to see a "Yay!" or other positive exclamation in her emails. Its so refreshing and really feels good to work with someone who is truly amazing at her job and who also truly cares about the well being of the world around her. And I guess Northwest Apartments deserves some credit for adding this "diamond in the rough" to their team. One of the best hiring decisions ever, imo! I've rented from more than a few property management companies over the years and most are just kind of "okay" or maybe even less than okay. Sean C. and Elatish S. are the best of the best, genuine stand-outs in their fields and I cannot gush enough about how lucky Northwest Apartments is to have such amazing talent as part of the team. If you're looking for a new apartment in Seattle, forget what you may have heard about Northwest Apartments in the past. Everyone deserves a second chance, deserves a chance to do better. Lots of companies talk a good game of doing right by their customers. How many of those companies actually turn that game they talk up into real, tangible improvements? Well I can say emphatically that wanting to do better by their customers isn't just lip service here, at Northwest Apartments there's a genuine effort to be better, to do better, to truly become the property management company of choice in Seattle. Major management issue. Lived in one of their complexes for a year until my lease was up and got out of there. Granted the company had just purchased my building from a different owner at the time of my move in. Upon move in I was told that the building would be cleaned and maintained every week, and it was not cleaned a single time in the year I lived there. It was hard to get a response from the management company. The manager responded to emails days or weeks later, and phone was never an option as you call the overall company and not just the manager, and they have no clue who you are or if that complex is one of theirs, even though it's the phone number listed on the online rent portal. As they have just acquired the complex, there was construction going on in every empty unit. That is fine, except tenets were never informed of the construction, which was loud, and occurred early in the morning and well into the night, even 11pm some days. Based on other reviews, this company seems fine, but in the building I lived in, which was recently acquired, that was not the case. read more

We have lived in these apartments for 7 or 8 years (lost track). Location and the maintenance lead, Malachi, are the only things that keep us here. NW Apartments is all about the $ and could care less about the tenants. Our heat went out in December of 2021. Our AC as well, since it's all part of the same unit. It's now nearly September 2022 and we still don't have heat. They provided us with small, portable radiant heaters but we can't use them all because it trips the breaker. I've asked numerous times what the status is; the latest communication was to tell us we could move. It blew my mind. (Keep in mind we have a child as well- we can't just pick up and move and the cost to move is very expensive.) This is just one example as to how they treat their tenants. Malachi is wonderful and comes right away when we need something, but the rest of the company is awful. If we could afford to move to another place in the area we would, but we are stuck. Not to mention we are great tenants who take good care of the place and have never been late paying rent over the years. And this is how we are treated. Had my rent nearly double over the course of seven years, and then was charged a "cleaning and damage fee" after I moved out. There was no invoicing of the alleged damage, and multiple requests to provide one were ignored until nearly a year later when my account was sent to collections with no further communication from the company. Awful property management, highly recommend NOT renting from them! Response from management is horrendous, they do the bare minimum to make their apartments livable. I called and emailed them to report vomit in the elevator, it didn't get cleaned up for 3 weeks! There was feces in the stairwell, didn't get cleaned up for 4 days! Just repulsive. We moved out after being there for 4 years, not only to not get our security deposit back but to have them charge us an additional $600 for bullshit charges. My savings went to these thieves. I am also reporting this to the BBB and the Housing Authority. They had their chances, and they blew it. If the BBB or Housing can't resolve it, I'm going to have to go to court. To summarize, I had placed a fully refundable if denied deposit down in order to apply for an apartment. I was denied in the beginning of June, it's now mid August and still no check, no call backs, no emails returned, nothing. They took off with just over $1k. I'm glad I didn't rent with them. Wish I could give 0/5. ABSOLUTELY UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES RENT FROM NORTHWEST APARTMENTS. They have zero interests in their tenants livelihoods. We dealt with having no kitchen sink and waste water on our floor for over two months. One washer and dryer for an entire building for over a month. Garbage and food waste in my window, next to my unit and around the building for months. On top of this, the company deals with their tenant issues by literally ignoring you or denying claims then ignoring you. Finally, we all know of those landlords that take your entire security deposit despite your photographic evidence, solely because they think you won't practice your rights and feel like they can profit off of you. Northwest apartments embodies this mindset in everything they do, all the way down to your final security deposit return. Avoid them at all costs, and if you're already there read your renters rights because I promise they are mostly being broken, as ours were continuously on several occasions. When I first moved in to the Regis Apartments in Capitol Hill, Mieko and Derrick were the resident building managers and they were fantastic. They were nice, communicated well, and made my move-in as seamless as possible. A couple months later when they left and were replaced by its current building manager whose name I won't disclose in this review, things changed. It became clear what Northwest Apartments was all about. When you think about their practices, policies, the way they go about managing a person's living conditions, it's pretty obvious that the people at NWA are legitimately bad people. It's one thing to be less then stellar at any other business, but they are in the business of housing. This is a delicate industry that requires more finesse and care than other industries. The idea that they can deduct heavily from the security deposit before a walkthrough, before even looking at the current condition of the apartment is fundamentally unethical. I'll give you an example. At the Regis on 19th and Republican, your deposit upon submitting an application is $750. Off the bat $150 is non-refundable. That's fine. That's standard operating procedure. Upon your move out, they decide to tack on a bunch of fees that dig into your security deposit. These include cleaning fees, blind-cleaning fees, $25/hour for paint scuffs, and a number of other things in that vein. And let me remind you, these charges are going to happen BEFORE they look at your apartment. They aren't concerned with how well you clean it, they're going to charge you like you trashed the place regardless. That's borderline thievery. So maybe you're thinking "hey but at least you know you were in a clean place, right?" Wrong. The Regis is straight-up nasty. There's this constant stench on the first floor that reeks of mold and gas (which is just plain unsafe on so many levels). There's trash littering the hallways. There's exposed wiring along the walls and ceilings (once again, not even in the ballpark of "safe living conditions"). The neighborhood is great, and the outside of the building is wonderful, but when you step inside it's an entirely different story. So that has me wondering, are they really spending money on maintaining this building like they're charging you for? The clear cut answer is no. It's a hard no. They're telling you to shell out a huge chunk of your deposit for things they're not actually going to clean or maintain. That money goes straight into the pockets of the property owners. My situation made it so that I was only actually at my apartment for 2-3 days per week, on a good week. I was rarely ever home. I always made sure I had my rent payments on time, always. I have never been late with the rent in my entire tenure at the Regis Apartments. There were a couple times when I definitely forgot to make a utility payment as their online payment protocol is ambiguous and near-useless. But that's not an excuse, that's on me. The way they go about notifying you that you have a balance is by tacking an eviction warning to your door. That, to me, is just cold and disrespectful. Instead of using actual words like a normal person would, they do this. So even when you pay your $1100 in rent, they will threaten to make you homeless for $75 you forgot to pay (and immediately gave them as soon as you realized your mistake). This is what they think of their tenants. This is how little they respect their fellow human beings. You might read this and think "hey, this is normal. Lots of places do this." And you might be right, because these are slum lord tactics. Common ones. That doesn't make it okay, and that doesn't mean you had to endure that yourself. I lived at a building managed by Northwest Apartments in Capitol Hill and had a great experience! The property managers at this company are fairly easy to get ahold of as they have phone numbers that you can text any issues to along with emails that you can reach them at as well. All maintenance requests were attended to very quickly, most of the time significantly quicker than I expected. My manager Sadia was always helpful & prompt to responding to any issue I had in my apartment and would even get back to me on the weekends when I wasn't expecting her to work. As someone who worked in property management with a different company, I know how many tenants act. People expect their property managers to always 100% be available for their every need, neglecting the fact that people have lives and should only work 40 hours a week. Seattle is expensive to live in and unfortunately comes with living around homelessness, drug addiction and theft. There is almost NOTHING any property management company can do about that as it is a city issue. Anyone complaining about homeless people in their buildings clearly doesn't understand that. Unfortunately many people that write negative reviews also don't understand the fees and leases that they sign. If you pay a bill late, there are late fees. If you move out of your apartment before your lease ends, you have to pay early move out fees. If you don't give proper 20 day notice, you have to pay the following months rent. My building is really nice, the location is good, cleaning staff maintain the common areas regularly, and maintenance requests are promptly responded to, but my grievance with this management company is the lack of response you get from property managers. It's VERY corporatized. My building has had at least 5 different managers in the last 2 years I've been living here, none of whom have I ever met. When you email management for non-maintenance-related concerns/issues you either get no response or, if you do get a response, it usually takes them 1-2 months to get back to you. Each property manager within the company has a portfolio of like 20 buildings they manage, so that is their excuse for lack of response. The leasing team is really good at communicating with you during the application and move-in process and I'm sure when you're ready to vacate you'll be able to communicate with them quite easily, but while you're an actual tenant you'll probably never be able to get a hold of your property manager. read more

The WORST company you can rent from - STAY CLEAR! I work in the industry and was appalled by the lack of professionalism NorthWest Apartments provided to their residents. They will up-charge you at any opportunity they can get within their legal bounds. My roommate needed to move out and a new one added to the lease. This is a simple change, requiring a midterm lease addendum and takes roughly 10m if you are versed within the software you are using. They charged $500 to our account. I don't understand how they could justify this charge to anyone outside of the industry, but speaking with experience, this is unheard of! It is clear they do not have the wellbeing of their residents in mind with these outrageous charges you will find throughout the lease terms. I hope you are lucky enough to not have any changes to your lease or you will be looking at dipping into your savings. It is impossible to contact the property manager as they have 15 other properties in their portfolio. If you have a time sensitive request, do not rely on them to aid in your solution. To solidify how NorthWest Apartments operates, the best example would come from the head of the leasing department, Lisa: An employee of hers father had passed away and requested bereavement leave. Upon his return, he was fired which resulted in him losing his job, home (he was living on-site and managing) as well as his father. I've only lived here a month and have never dealt with more difficult people in my life. This is not the first apartment I've lived in nor is it the first management company I've worked with. I can say that it's the WORST though. I've dealt with nonexistent management, random people hassling me in the hallways, management not installing the things they've promised to install before I moved in, loud construction work when they previously told me that all renovations were done, and no security (They keep the doors propped open all day!!). When something breaks, I only have one email address from the management to inform them, no phone number, no open office hours. After several emails I might hear a response or never get any. Northwest apartments who is managing this apartment and so many other apartments in cap hill is also not responsive, again their website does not have any phone number, and if you check their reviews, you will see how shitty they are. The rent is also high, so you are paying a lot and not receiving any care for you place. My apartment door is broken for several months now and I have to deal with it myself. If you rent from Northwest Apartments, just know they are going to pocket your entire security deposit for "cleaning" issues when you move out. I have always left apartments in excellent condition upon move-out and have never had a landlord keep *any* of my deposit, until now. We cleaned thoroughly and had it even cleaner than we moved in, but they kept $300 because we didn't have it *professionally* cleaned. My boyfriend and I have lived at the Marlene Renee apartments for about a year now. This building has its pro's and con's. The building is super close to QFC and plenty of shops/restaurants. The residents are generally polite and noise has never been an issue. The vaulted ceilings are very nice and the tall windows bring in a ton of natural light. But...there's also a boarded up abandon building that drug addicts and homeless people break into constantly. I've walked outside to hypodermic needles on the front area of the building more than once, or a tweaker standing right outside in the lawn of the adjacent building. It's pretty scary as a woman leaving and entering the building on her own. Granted, there's nothing Marlene Renee apartments can do about this but I personally find the area to be so constantly be filled with trash and drug addicts at all times it seriously depreciates the value of this building. Also--the laundry is $2 per wash and $2 per load. Pretty damn steep for only having two machines and 15 units to service. Ashley the property manager is great though. She's very attentive and responsive to anything you might need! read more

I lived at the Tuscany for two years. Upon move-out, the place was spotless. I had the carpets and blinds professionally cleaned, and scrubbed the rest of the place spotless during an afternoon with my parents help. Nothing was broken, stained, or dirty. Wear-and-tear was far less than the 'normal amount' (NOT the tenant's responsibility) you'd expect for a unit that had been lived in for 2 years. I've rented many apartments before and always kept them in great condition and never lost any of my security deposit. At the Tuscany? I lost it all, $798 of the original $800 I'd paid. It was like they invented problems with the apartment just to reach the maximum dollar amount they had of mine. Unfortunately it's an extremely laborious process to go after a landlord for violating the law, and I didn't have the time to sue Northwest Apartments (as they deserved) for my money back. So there you go, they win because I can't dedicate 100 hours of my life to litigating this, and that's what they're banking on when they rob you of your security deposit. DO NOT rent from any of the Northwest Apartments managed buildings in Seattle. You will come to deeply regret. read more

When we first moved into the Annaron Apartments in Capitol Hill (managed by NW Apartments), we felt it was a little pricey for what we were getting, but we figured the location was worth it. Plus, the on-site managers at the time seemed nice and pretty relaxed, but still professional. The first several months in the apartment were fine, we really didn't have any complaints. (Can you sense the foreshadowing yet?) Almost a year into our lease, the on-site managers abruptly moved out, and we had a new one who didn't live on-site. Maintenance requests still seemed to be handled within a reasonable amount of time, and she was nice and respectful. However, when our one-year lease was about to end, we received notice that rent was being increased another $100/month if we signed another year-long lease; otherwise, it was being increased by $200/month. I know it's Capitol Hill, but this seemed really steep to us, so we started looking for other apartments. Ultimately, we decided to stay because the market was super competitive, and we still felt the location was worth it (although we were more disgruntled at that point). Shortly after the second manager took over, we received another notice that a new (third in just over a year) manager was taking over. This one lived on-site but was never seen, never introduced himself in person to anyone, and left rude, power-trip-y letters on everyone's door about petty things. He would always sign them as "Management," never putting his actual name. We had put in a maintenance request right before he started as the new manager, and it was never handled. So, a while later we put in the same request again, and he told us it would be taken care of. Nothing happened for weeks, and I had to follow up with him multiple times. It was actually never fixed by the time we moved out a couple months later. As expected, our rent went up another $100/month after the second one-year lease was up, on the condition that we would sign another one-year lease (same situation as before). Also, our parking space, which we had already been paying $100/month for, was going up to $125/month. We decided it was definitely time to move. Upon move-out, the manager did one quick inspection before we had even started packing, and we never saw him after that point. We asked him about a final walk-through, and he told us it wasn't necessary and to just leave our keys in the rent drop-box on our last day. We naively accepted, not expecting that we would be completely ripped off due to his false claims on the move-out inspection report. True to dozens of other tenants' experiences on here, we too received a small fraction of our deposit back, even after months of communication disputing this with their so-called "Dispute Resolution Center," a.k.a. an email account with an anonymous sender who takes weeks to respond and never resolves a damn thing. NW Apartments has no concern for its tenants, doesn't reward them whatsoever for being loyal and responsible, and are basically just money-grubbing a-holes with a monopoly on the Seattle housing market. Also, Annaron Apartments are extremely loud with people partying all the time and not respecting their neighbors, and the management doesn't do sh*t about it. DON'T LIVE ANYWHERE MANAGED BY NW APARTMENTS. Keep looking, don't give in to the monopoly, you'll find something better. read more

I've been living under Northwest Apartments for over four years and was six hours late paying my rent this month. I got charged $150!!! I notified my apartment manager immediately and even though I have *never* been late paying rent during my entire time here (or anywhere), he wouldn't budge whatsoever. He said if I did auto pay he could waive the charge. That makes no sense. What I do know is that Northwest Apartments does not value the individual residents they have. I know they don't care how long you've lived there or how EASY of a tenant you've been. It's like Labor Day comes around and they all get bonuses. I tried to contact anyone other than my apartment manager and it's nearly impossible. Did I mention $75 of that is to notify ME that I have a late fee? I contacted my apartment manager immediately after I *paid* the entire balance - and then he proceeded to charge me $75 to notify ME after I notified him and paid the full balance. This is not a company that cares. While I don't have time and energy for a lawsuit, they deserve one for this kind of policy. Renters beware. read more

In short, I would NEVER rent from Northwest Apartments again nor recommend anyone to rent from them. The longer version, I was tenant at Mercer Vista Apartments in Capitol Hill for two years. Upon move out, experienced the same situation as Johnson S stated in a Yelp Review below - our unit was spotless and left in better condition than when we moved in. Yet NW Apartments had the nerve to still with hold all of our security deposit AND charge us an extra $3 and send us to collections without responding to our e-mails and phone calls in time. PATHETIC. Security deposit was taken from us due to unclean carpet even though we provided a receipt of $70, unclean drip pans (even though they were brand new) and another $70 for unclean apartment (among other ridiculous charges) even though the new manager stated that the apartment was spotless! Mercer Vista Apartments experienced many manager changes during our time and the lack of communication and honesty between them has been appalling. Over the past year, we have had one of our bikes stolen AND our storage unit broken into. While, I understand that this happens, we were also told by an interim manager that security measures would be taken to ensure it would not happen again. One of these measures would be to place wood panels between units instead of chicken wire which can easily be cut (this is how our possessions were stolen). This never happened. Oh and one of the managers told us some random person was apparently living in the staircases of the building - note to manager: you don't tell tenants this - you deal with it! read more

Probably the worst management company I've ever dealt with. Poor building upkeep and will attempt to milk ever dollar possible from their tenants. Want to talk to someone there about an issue? Good luck - go to their site and look for a phone number or the name of a person you can contact. A email is the only way they will speak with you. And they only reply when they wish to, making you wait a week for response in the hopes you'll give up. This company charges excessive move out fees and when asked for an explanation of the charges simply replied back with "fair and reasonable". A charge for for 27 hours of work to patch nail holes. In a studio apt. Really? The building on Montlake is falling apart. I lived there for 2 years and never once did they clean the windows of their building. Same bird poop there for two years . It just shows how little effort they put into helping their tenants, they are only interested collecting - you'll get plenty of email reminders for that. Lots of teffort goes into finding how to raise the utility charge or rent. Don't get involved with these crooks. Update: Look at this fake response by them. Everyone can tell it's not genuine. I've lived in a NW Apartments building for more than five years. My fellow tenants are basically great, with a few exceptions who have moved on fairly quickly. The company hires building managers to be the middle-person for everything. It's hit or miss whether that person can write in complete sentences or follow through on anything. Attempts to contact the management directly result in silence or condescending corporate b-s. There is no room for reasonable conversation between tenant and management, even if it would be in their best financial interest. Communication is abysmal. Customer service is non-existent. They don't care how responsible or long-term of a tenant you are. Very occasional, long overdue building maintenance and upgrades are left half-finished for weeks or months, and whomever they hire out for these jobs treat the premises poorly (leaving messes, tools, scrap wood, smelling up the hallways with cigarette smoke, etc.) and I have seen them leave building doors wide open to the street for hours unsupervised. read more

I have been a resident of Casa Ladaro since 2012 and as of 2019, the new owners/ "management" have caused myself (and a slew of others) to reconsider. I have had neighbors on my floor that have both moved in before and after me and 2 that moved out within 3 months due to the horrendous treatment and overall lack of basic resident care and building upkeep. This building was home to a lady whom was one of it's oldest tenants in age and residency, who recently had a stroke and was hospitalized. The management took it upon themselves to charge her a late fee of 75.00 because her stroke happen to be a few days before the rent didn't get paid on time. To which her neighbors pooled together to take care of that as her family had to fly in to attend to her and she ended up in a hospice due to her conditions. There was also a tenant that suffered a medical emergency in her vehicle in her parking stall and when 2 other residents found her, tried to resuscitate her while calling 911. Seattle Fire arrived and she unfortunately died before medics came. I came home to police and fire on site with part of the parking lot taped off, so I notify the building manager at the time that there was an emergency and he was too busy to see why police and fire were here due to he was entertaining guests. After that incident, no one to this day has mentioned let alone thanked the 2 residents that had to endure this nor has the owners or management addressed this with residents. Vehicle break ins have increased as well as package theft, neither of which has been addressed and since 2012 we are now on manager number 5 and this one doesn't even live on site so now if there is an issue, tenants just have to "leave a voice message at the beep" or leave an email and hope for the best. I also have never in all these years been treated like a petty conman by the current staff. I personally pay no less than 150.00 per month on top of rent for parking and utilities and twice now I have had to argue over wrong charges made by Northwest Apartments totaling less than 45.00. And after the mistake is found to be made on their end, the only recognition is from the poor accountant they drug into this to find their faux pas as they remain silent. I used to suggest this building to friends, family or anyone in conversation looking for a place to live as a moderately affordable, family friendly and safe place to rest your head and enjoy a slice of peace of mind while still being within 10 minutes from the city as well as close bus routes but now I wouldn't suggest this place to anyone for any reason. read more

Northwest apartments is a great management company! The property manager for my building is Sammie Pang, and she's wonderful! She's super responsive to tenant requests. I've had a few last minute emergencies and she's been able to help out on short notice. On top of the great work Sammie does, the maintenance staff for the building are knowledgeable and efficient. They're quick to respond, and fix things right the first time. Finally, the online portal is easy to use for rent payments and maintenance requests. read more

Northwest Apartments has a portfolio of really cool buildings. I lived in one of them (The Regis on Capitol Hill) for over ten years. When I signed the lease, the building belonged to an older couple and had a truly phenomenal on-site manager. The building had a lot of cool old-world details and I really liked living there. It feels like everything has gone downhill since Northwest Apartments came in, many years ago. Our great site-manager was immediately let go. Sure, maintenance was often faster than before, but in every instance the fix was worse than what we had before, if they fixed it at all: - The bathroom a floor above ours sprung a leak and wrecked our bathroom ceiling. The patch looked horrible and also wasn't done right, so a year later it happened again and the patch, again, looked terrible. - The oven has leaked gas for a while. Literally every time I've asked management to look at it they've dismissed me. I gave up. - The fridge broke down, and they replaced it with one that was admittedly newer and nicer, but did not actually fit in the kitchen, so getting in and out of the kitchen became difficult. - Lighting in public areas often goes out and is left dark for a long time. - Wiring in public areas often gets pulled out and just... left that way? It's unsightly and worrisome. - If you accidentally throw a breaker (which is easy because the wiring is old,) there's no breaker access without finding the (usually not on-site) manager. - Fire alarm system would malfunction at random and just be left as-is, making an ungodly noise. - The fire-escape/alternate exit has been left to decay and has been unsafe for years. - Despite having lived here for many years, management was always combative and punitive in their responses to simple problems. - We proactively notified management of another suspected leak, and they came to work on it unannounced while I was asleep in my bedroom, leaving the front door open and unattended while they were elsewhere. When I notified management that this was not ok and I felt unsafe in my own space, they threatened eviction. I literally would have been satisfied with an apology and agreement that they'd at least wake me? I work nights. It is terrifying to me that their staff will just unlock your apartment and leave it open to the world at a moment's notice. I have not felt safe since. I have delayed writing this review out of fear of retaliation; that's how much they've violated my trust over the years. AVOID. They have nice buildings but they're all being run into the ground. read more

Natalie was a revelation in our apartment search! She was extremely accommodating to our schedule and our needs, showing us multiple Northwest properties even though we had only one tour scheduled. I lived at The Washington Irving in Capitol Hill for 2 years. When we moved in we had a very pleasant manager on site who was attentive and helpful. After a few months, we were informed that we had a new manager, then a few months later, another new manager. I think we had 5 managers in 2 years. None of the managers after the first one seemed willing to respond to emails or communicate with us in any way. At the end of our lease we were charged 1200.00 to re-patch nail holes (from hanging pictures). There is no contractor in the world that would charge that. If you are forced to go with this company, just be aware that they will absolutely gouge you at the end of your leases. read more

I had paid the holding fee for an apartment and had signed the lease but not moved in, and in this interim timeframe got the news that I had been approved for low-income housing that is much better for me financially. Northwest apartments did not hold me to the early termination of my lease which would have been financially prohibitive even though they technically could have done so because I was under contract. I am grateful that they only kept the holding fee and let me out of my lease. They were also very responsive, able to answer my questions that day. Thank you! read more
