In talking to different doctors, I felt most comfortable with Dr. Terry's approach and his genuine concern for me as a patient. He recommended PRK over LASIK for me because my cornea would fully heal afterwards and I would achieve the same improvements in my vision, though over a slightly longer time period (a couple weeks versus hours). With LASIK, your cornea is compromised because of the flap that is cut. At my wedding reception, I poked my eye with my sunglasses, which was rather sobering, and I covered my eye for the next day because it hurt so bad. I am fairly confident that if I'd had LASIK instead of PRK, I would have been headed to an eye surgeon to repair the flap on my cornea instead of dancing at the reception.

I was expecting an after patient summary that would outline the steps I needed to take to prep for my upcoming surgery, as well as detailed info about the surgery itself. I received nothing - and no information in my mychart record. When I arrived on my surgery day, I didn't have ANY pre-education or pre-warning re: preparations about what to actually expect with the surgery. The various office staff/observers came in and out of my room (like 6 people - not sure why so many people? No one said) I asked a couple questions and the surgeon ignored me. The staff all just started doing stuff to prep me for surgery, no one explained anything to me at all - it was like I wasn't even there. I accidentally reached up to wipe off a stream of eye drops rolling down my face and got scolded not to do that, but no one had told me prior to not do that. They need to provide detailed after visit summaries and better communication to their patients, and send reminder notices outlining expected preparations the patient should take prior to upcoming procedures, as well as after surgery care. After my surgery,the nurse rattled off 5 different prescriptions I was supposed to take following a prescribed sequence of usage. These steps weren't written down and it was up to me to try to remember how and when to administer the various meds.

Add another half hour, generously, for the treatment prep and delivery and there's no reason on Earth for me to be there for much more than an hour. Nevertheless, I have from time to time spent upwards of an hour waiting between the tests and the treatment and it's never been less than 45 minutes. I have generously allowed two hours and several times now I've had to leave without being treated so as not to miss my transportation home. Twice now, I've had an assistant tell me to allow three hours. Seriously. Give up an entire morning or afternoon for something that could have been done in an hour. This business seriously needs to hire an efficiency expert to streamline their services.
