Moda Insurance patients, be warned. While this clinic is listed as in-network with Moda, their billing practices can result in unexpected, out-of-network-level charges due to how they handle Moda's annual vision benefit limits. Moda allows vision providers to balance bill once you exceed your yearly vision benefit (typically $250, $400, or $600 depending on your plan). Some providers voluntarily honor in-network pricing even after that cap is reached--this provider does not. Instead, they charge full higher fees once your benefit is maxed out. Examples: * A standard glasses exam was billed at $250. * A contact lens exam was billed at $480--just for the exam. * For a single pair of glasses, I was billed $327 for the frames, $390 for the lenses, plus an additional $255 in uncovered upgrades--a total of $972 for one pair of glasses. A quick google search shows these exact frames have pricing from $115 to $150, this office outrageously overprices their frames. This means you can reach your plan maximum without even covering the cost of the exam, leaving everything else--exam overages, frames, lenses, contacts--billed at out-of-pocket, non-discounted rates. On top of this: * Their billing is incredibly error-prone. Of the five insurance claims submitted for my family, four were incorrect, primarily due to missing or incomplete charge details. * They over collected at the time of service and have not issued timely refunds. I am currently waiting on two separate refunds, one for services rendered four months ago, and another from three months ago--still unresolved. * They upsold glasses upgrades without clearly disclosing that these options are not covered by insurance, leading to more surprise charges. * And when you try to resolve issues, the billing office is condescending, dismissive, and unresponsive. In summary, this office appears to leverage technicalities in insurance policy to maximize patient costs and hence provider profits, while offering little transparency and poor customer service in return. If you rely on Moda Insurance--or just want transparent, respectful service--I recommend looking elsewhere. read more

Dr. Gerig takes the time to answer each question you have carefully and really get to know your needs for eye care. I love going here! Leslie is great too! She is always so patient and helpful when I'm picking out a frame and helps me narrow it down when I need advice. I enjoy the selection and variety when I'm there pick out my glasses frames, and find new sunglasses too. I have been seeing an optometrist for 27 years and chose Dr. Gerig after trying others out and have continued to come back because I appreciate the care and kindness I have received here. The one thing I noticed early on is that later in the day appointments can end up starting quite late but... it's because Dr. Gerig is so thorough. I haven't had a doctor like him before. So, for me, this is a value added, bonus, and I appreciate the time spent with each individual. My suggestion for folks worried about the wait time is try to book and an appointment earlier in the day. They're also open on select Saturdays so that can help too! read more

Find another optometrist. Long story short it took around 4 months for me to get a copy of my prescription after jumping through hoops and requesting it multiple times. Finally today I walked in and refused to leave until I had a copy. Then the printer conveniently stopped working and I was told to come back. I told them I would just sit and wait and they can listen to all my work calls while the printer gets fixed. That lasted about 5 minutes and then the printer just magically worked. I could have written this review about the overpriced frames and eyeglass options, the rude front desk staff, or even the 45 minute wait I had after my appointment time. All around just a horrible optometrist. Happy for the folks on here with positive reviews, but this was my first time here and I won't be returning. I've been wearing glasses for 30 years and lived a lot of places and never received this level of poor service from an optometrist. When you make Lenscrafters and America's Best look good, you're doing something wrong. read more

I've been coming here for years and always appreciate the individualized attention I receive from Dr. Gerig and his associates, but today they really knocked it out of the park. Last night a screw popped out of my glasses and I was nervous I'd have to send it off or pay someone something stupid to replace the tiny little screw - instead I was in and out of here in about 5 minutes at no charge simply because I'm a customer. Where do I begin, oh I know, how about arriving 10 minutes early to a 3pm appointment. Filled out the typical paperwork and 55 minutes later Dr. Gerig comes. Didn't mention a thing about being late, no apology, no explanation just moving on..... Eye exam went well, the equipment he has is ancient (albeit, still works). Dr. Gerig goes on rants about random things that don't relate to me but I sit and agree and nod. He gets distracted way too much and now it makes sense why he was 55 minutes late. Overall it was fine, he knows his stuff but dang, an eye exam shouldn't be a 2 hr trip. Exam is done, then I moved on to the frame, lenses, options etc. The options are OUTRAGEOUSLY MARKED UP, as are the frames (conveniently priced over the average amount insurance gives). I feel like they take advantage of costs and use your insurance to their benefit leaving little to no reasons for customers to go there. To be honest, I will not return here. I have no grudges or personal vendetta, just an honest worker with new eye care insurance. read more

I've been here 3 times for eye exams, each of those times the doctor who sees me is amazing and goes above and beyond! The gentleman who does the glasses fitting and all of that is also amazing and very kind and goes above and beyond. If him and the doctors were the only staff I'd give this place 10 stars however my complaint is with the blonde lady who works in the reception desk. She is incredibly rude I seriously wish she didn't work there because everyone is nice EXCEPT her. She's rude and will treat you like a burden but I overlook her because the doctor and the gentleman who helps with the glasses fitting are incredibly kind! read more

Horrible front desk service from an older lady couldn't believe how rude and inconsiderate she was. I came in 1/2/18 to pick up and pay for my glasses before I leave for the military on the 23rd and they totally messed up my order of frames I wanted and the lady helping me was totally rude about it saying this is what I ordered when in fact they weren't and kept persisting that it was then rudely gave me my card back and said they'd call me again tomorrow I can't wait to get this call if they can even actually pick up a phone and dial someone's number. I've been coming here for more than 5 years now and they never give me a call when my contacts or glasses come in when they say they will so we'll see. The doc here is fantastic. It's just to bad a little if that doesn't rub off on the girl at the front desk where customer service is mediocre at best. I hate to say this but places like Americas Best and the little sites in Fred Meyer just get harder and offer more all the way around. You know that insurance you can but at Americas Best. Nothing of the sort here. Also I can't in with s few broken pair and she made absolutely no attempt to even find it who makes them duo they could brr fixed. First trick to an eye exam and eye-wear is a place that accepts your insurance, we found 20/20 Eye Care Professionals, which just happens to be conveniently located near Washington Square Mall so it's easy to get to and easy to find. The front staff are friendly and helpful which I appreciate since the appointments and glasses are for my "busy" boys. Doctor Wayne L. Gerig, O.D. is quick, efficient, and informative throughout the exam process. Something I truly value because my boys (age almost 4 & almost 7) are very active, wiggly, and have short attention spans. Also, there is a small play area available for kids that contains toys, puzzles, and a small tv/video player. read more

I've never written a post on Yelp before but I felt I needed to after the treatment I received this past fall from 20/20, and the front desk help staff, Ingrid specifically. I have been a patient at Dr. Gerig's for over 10 years, I got my first pair of glasses there, and yes, Leslie and Dr. Gerig were awesome when I first got contacts Then I went away to college and came back a few years later for a new pair of glasses. I am going into nursing so I had some specific requirements - that I have a large range of vision and they be super comfy as I could be wearing them for up to 12 hours. Ingrid, the front-desk help, did the measurements, and something just felt off from the start, but I trusted her judgement. So when the glasses arrived, low and behold, the bridge was too wide and they sat quite too far down my nose to be useful during computer work or running around a medical unit. I told her from the beginning and she persuaded me to try them out for a bit. At this point, I was in the thick of nursing school, 5 days a week, often odd hours, not done until at least 5pm, sometimes later. So when I came in to the office on a Saturday to return the frames, Ingrid was the one working and could not accept them because "They might be lost, stolen or destroyed between Saturday afternoon and Monday morning, when we can ship them back to the manufacturer" She insisted I must come in during the week. *How can a place that makes, adjusts and deals with glasses everyday not have a place that would be safe enough to leave a frame for less than 48 hours?!? Shouldn't we be able to trust them with something so simple?* So I came in again, on a Saturday, I suppose hoping for a different employee who might accept them. Ingrid again, and nope. I explained to her that I was not able to come in during the week, their hours being only basically 9-5 during the week and me being in school. She basically said tough luck. Finally during a break of school, I was able to come in during the week to return the frames, and of course, it was past the manufacturer deadline for returns. Now Ingrid expected me to eat the cost of the entire frame and just buy a new pair out of pocket. During the conversation she also accused me of lying, and reported I said things I most certainly did not. I was horribly frustrated. I called Leslie and she helped work out a deal where we both paid half for the frames that did not fit, and she helped me get my insurance to pay for the new pair. Again, Leslie is awesome! My only problems lie with Ingrid, who at one point told me I should just hold my head tilted back, *with my nose in the air* so I could see better out of the frames for work. Are you serious?!? I must deal with people who are at least 6 feet tall on a daily basis at the hospital! I can't just hold my head in a different way because Ingrid measured my nose/eyes wrong! Anyways, I love Dr. Gerig and Leslie, and Joe as well, the only problem is that they haven't fired Ingrid yet, to my knowledge. I changed my eye doctor to another one in SE and was pleasantly surprised at how easy they were to deal with, they even offered me coffee, tea or water before the appt! ;) Go to 20/20 at your own risk, or encourage them to tell Ingrid to move on for their own sake. read more

I was so compelled to write a review about Dr. Gerig because he is hands down the best Optometrist I have ever gone to. I ran out of contacts for my vacation and had to see someone quickly. The office was able to squeeze me in that week and Dr. Gerig was nice enough to give me a free pair of contacts and tons of solutions for my trip. He also let me sample 3 other contacts (2-week & daily) so I can see which ones I liked best. I've never had anyone give me so much free stuff! Not to mention he was very attentive to detail and extremely thorough. He gave me multiple options and told me which was the best bang for the buck. I'm pretty cheap. ha ha He address my issues and concerns, while other doctors in the past have brushed off. Love, Love, Love him. Go! Trust me...you won't be disappointed. read more

I have been coming to see Dr. Gerig since we moved to Tigard in 2005. He is personable and thorough. I always feel as though my annual eye exam is truly comprehensive. He referred me to Dr. Teplick for Lasix in 2009 and did all of my aftercare, and I was very pleased at how it turned out. Wish I hadn't waited so long! I always buy my reading glasses there because they have a lovely selection, and it only takes 7-10 business days. I can't beat the convenience as the clinic is only 5 minutes from home. I have never had an issue with the front desk staff; they are friendly and helpful. read more

He seemed really excited to answer any questions I had and it was clear to me that optometry is a career he actually enjoys. His very pleasant staff reflected an overall good vibe for the entire practice. I would highly not recommend this eye care place to any one. They make mistake after mistake of things that shouldn't be mistakes in the first place, which is really inconvenient to my schedule. They might not get it right the first time, or the second, but eventually they will. Just a heads up, they didn't tell me, but to anyone getting contacts here, you have 3 months to go back and make another appointment with the doctor. and if you wait till after 3 months, they will charge you more. Dr. Gerig was super nice and very informative about what conditions he was testing for and was very thorough (as far as I could tell.) My son got his first glasses from this place. Sunny was the rep who helped me and she was a delight to work with. I received a pair of glasses for my son that were too big for his face; however, I knew he would eventually grow into them. Well he ended up not growing into them as quickly as I'd like and I wanted to order smaller ones. 20/20 doesn't have a large selection of small toddler frames so I went to another eyecare office. I still had him wear the larger frames as his home pair and they got scratched. I called 20/20 as I had previously to order replacement lenses. Normally they look at his chart, order the lenses and upon arriving they put the lenses in the frames when I go to pick them up. NOT THIS TIME. I called and ordered lenses in early April. Called a few weeks ago to check on their arrival and they still hadn't arrived. NO ONE EVEN PLACED AN ORDER! Okay, now I'm angry. The lady on the phone Susan sounded confused and didn't understand that she can JUST order the lenses. After explaining her job to her she said she would take care of it and order the lenses. Welp called today and its funny in my head I was thinking (watch they wont be there) and how if they screw up yet again that, thats it for this place. I called and after giving my sons name was placed on hold by Susan. Another rep jumped on the phone and acted like Susan was "busy" and would need to call me back. I could tell Susan was trying to figure out where she boned up, AGAIN. Susan called me back and explained that due to his insurance change they would need the frames present to order the lenses. Okay??? And... when was this found out? "Oh well I don't know... and this whole thing is confusing and" blah blah blah. So after almost 2 months later your confused? Your incompetent? and YOU COULDN'T CALL? She tried to pass the buck on her staff and I called her out on it. Some Office Manager. She even laughed at me??? She called later to explain that because my sons insurance changed, and because he had been to another office that THATS WHY she needed me to bring in the lenses. I'm not arguing the lenses being brought in. I'm not concerned about insurance or that he's been seen at another office. MY CONCERN IS, WHY NOT ONCE BUT TWICE DID NO ONE CALL? WHY ARE YOU STUCK ON THE INSURANCE PIECE OF IT AND SEEING THE FRAMES? WHERE IS THE ACCOUNTABILITY HERE PEOPLE? WHO WAS GOING TO CALL ME TO SAY WHAT I NEEDED TO DO?????!!!!!!!! I do not recommend this eye care establishment. I worked in the eye care industry myself for over 10 years and I had the opportunity to work with many doctors and optical stores. I have never had an experience like this, anywhere. The doctor kept us waiting for a long time, the technician did not know how to work the retinal mapping machine and there was major confusion over our insurance, which is a common major vision carrier. It took over 8 weeks for me to receive my glasses due to their errors and I kept receiving bills despite having been told my insurance covered certain products and services. From start to finish, it has been 5 months of back and forth. Basic customer service is lacking. Take your business elsewhere, our family will not be returning. read more

I came back looking to see if the following review had had any feedback. Couldn't find it. Thought it had been taken down. Then I found it hidden away in the non-recommended reviews at the bottom of the page. One of the criteria for which is a one star rating. Therefore I give it a five star to get it into the recommended reviews. Lets see if this works. Today I took the afternoon off work, took my son out of school and drove 45 min. to Tigard for his first appointment here. We arrived early, filled out forms and sat down. There were no other patients waiting. We sat, and sat, and sat. 45 min. after our appointment time I asked if we were going to be seen. The receptionist seemed confused by my question and mumbled something about the Dr running 20 min. late. With whom, I have no idea. There was no one else around. Besides, he wasn't running 20 min. behind, he was running at least 45 min. behind. We went and sat down for another fifteen min. Nothing. We walked out and then canceled all other family appointments here. Go elsewhere. read more
