I've been coming here for a few years now and am always impressed with the level of care and quality of service I receive. My last appointment was in April of 2022, and given that I had LASIK in August of 2022, my vision has changed quite a bit since then! I called on Tuesday to schedule an appointment before the end of the year and they squeezed me in the very next day. Dr. A did a phenomenal job of evaluating my vision and discussing my eyes since I had LASIK. Considering we had a similar level of vision prior to LASIK, I love knowing that she's also speaking from a place of experience when discussing LASIK symptoms. Honestly, my surgeon did a great job and I have 20/20 vision, but she worked with me to help me get a pair of FL-41 (migraine lens) sunglasses with a slight boost for driving, since I always have a pair of car sunglasses and am prone to migraines. The eye glasses fitter did an excellent job of helping me select a pair of frames that looked great and fit my face. We spent a little extra time color matching the FL-41 shade to the jade-colored glasses I selected, but she was so friendly and patient the entire time. All in all, this was a great experience and my only complaint is that the coffee machine took too long so I wasn't able to get a cup of coffee before my appointment began! Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, so still a 5/5 in my book. This facility is located in a small business center, so there is typically plenty of parking, but certain sections of the parking lot are currently closed as the building undergoes a roof repair. I highly recommend this location and will likely continue coming here even though I live in South Austin now. read more

FIVE STARS for Dr Miller! I absolutely love Dr Miller. My daughter has multiple disabilities, including CVI. Dr Miller was able to help in a way I have never seen. She took care. She understood what was needed. She was able to identify visual field losses and prescribe a prescription that helped. She made this process painless and a fun experience. I have also had nothing but excellent experience fitting my daughter for glasses. HOWEVER, I have referred countless people to this office and to Dr Miller. One referral was sent to Dr Aguilar instead and was told she had experience with CVI and low vision. During her appt the mother was told they couldn't complete the exam because the child wasn't following directions. And they charged her anyway, out of pocket! Not once, have I ever had the same experience. Dr Miller never need my child to follow directions, she met her where she was. I give ZERO STARS to Dr Aguilar and the team who treated my friend's child so poorly, without care, and charged them anyway. read more

Found Northwest Hills Eye Care through my health insurance and after a few visits, I've thoroughly enjoyed my visits. While in-person the staff is attentive and they make it a point to help you out. There are a few different waiting rooms. I'm trying to move from glasses to contacts so they've been assisting me with finding the right brand to wear. Read a few other reviews and agree the texting/phone call system can be a bit hard to get through, but a bit minor compared to the bigger picture. read more

Dr. Schutte is super thorough, informative, knowledgeable, and professional. Good "bedside manner." It seems like the one-star reviews mostly focus on the front desk or the processes of communication. Maybe there's been a change in certain staff positions but I haven't had any problems in the three years (or is it four?) I've been going there. I find that they respond well to texts. Don' t know about voicemail messaging. My advice to anyone needing to work with the glasses shop would definitely be to make an appointment. For a walk-in, wait time can be a lot. I go every year for an exam and usually get a pair of glasses, too. I think my eyeballs are in good hands there. read more

Ever get that feeling in your stomach that something's off at a place? I got it here, and in hindsight should have just left immediately. As countless others have noted, their front desk staff are extremely rude, and basically will force you to do a retinal scan even if you've recently had one. (I declined by writing it in their form as they offer no such option when you read the "no" option carefully. Pretty scammy!). I agree with others that Dr Stolla was great. A couple of years ago I saw her and she was thorough and professional. She has left, and I can imagine how come. The new doctor I saw was unprofessional and uncaring. She brought up several times how I declined the retina scan and dilation, then completely derided a question my wife had, which later we found on legitimate online sources was a common issue where there were options. Completely unprofessional. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place, it's no wonder no one ever recommends this place on the NWA neighborhood group. read more

The high scores are about the doctors. The low scores are about the receptionists. I agree with the low scores. We never got past the receptionist. There was an error that the automated system made and somehow it was our fault. My husband and I both got texts stating 4/4:15 respectively but when we got there they wanted to argue with us that we were told (by a faulty automated system) that it was 3:30. Even with texts as proof. Again, like others have mentioned, no apologies mentioned, no ownership of the errors the automated system made. Just rude behavior even though they represent the system that makes errors. I pointed that out and there was a blatant "NO, I don't represent the automated system". But yes you do, Jax, you represent the company that owns this system that as we were told, often makes errors. No apologies for the demeaning manner in which "Jax" acted in how she spoke to my husband and myself. My 10yo mentioned as we left how rude she was. I agree 10yo. You are right. Jax was extremely rude and talking over us the entire time. If you get past the front desk, well done you'll probably leave a 5 star review. If you don't get past the nasty front of house, you'll probably leave a 1 star review too. I wish we got to see the doctors that came so highly recommended from a friend that had been going there for 15yrs. Today was my first time going to Northwest Hills eye care and I will definitely be returning. The office was clean and everyone took care to clean everything thoroughly. They even wiped down my insurance card and license after they handed it back! The staff was very kind and quick. I was only waiting a few minutes before being called back. The technician was thorough and knowledgeable. Dr Schutte was friendly, thoughtful, and took the time to explain things to me. The person who helped me pick out glasses was fun to partner with. They gave me honest opinions and suggestions. Anything I tried on went into a box so that other patients couldn't touch them before they got cleaned. Over all, I'd highly recommend this place. After a several years of coming to Northwest Hills EyeCare I experienced the worst customer service ever. I called to find out what I had to do about getting my daughters broken glasses replaced and got through to an answering machine. I left a message and they returned the call when it was impossible for me to answer so I missed out and had to call back again. This time I got a receptionist who directed me to the frames people who's answering machine I got. I don't think I received a call back from them. My wife called and got an answering machine and no return call back. Finally I had to go in and get the prescription in persson and take it somewhere to be filled. The person answering the phones should be able to make an appointment for the customer regardless if he needs an examination or glasses replaced. And when you call you should actually get a live receptionist to speak to. No one should have to play phone tag and go a week without glasses because you can't be bothered to put a competent person on the phones to take a call and make an Appointment. It's kind of a job description and a profession, it's called a receptionist. It's not some new brilliant concept I pulled out of my butt yesterday they're typically found in places of business where appointments are made. Another tip, if someone calls because their glasses are broken and they need a replacement, it might be a good idea for the receptionist to check the patient's records to see if they need a new examination before a sending them on another grand adventure of phone tag with the frames lady. I could have spent all night boozing and druggIng woke up this morning with two hours of sleep hung over as hell and still figured out a better system of dealing with customers than you people have managed. It really is pathetically sad that intelligent people couldn't come up with a way of dealing with patients more personally and wIth better care, we are people not projects to be placed on the shelf and given attention whenever you feel like it. read more

I owe Dr Jenny Wood my life. Seriously. My life. A few months back, I mentioned some unusual eye symptoms I was experiencing to Dr Wood. My previous eye doctor had dismissed my symptoms as "stress related" and ordered no further testing. Dr Wood examined me completely and decided to order further testing. The ordered testing revealed an unruptured brain aneurysm that was causing my eye issues. Over the next few weeks, Dr Wood and Kris Thompson helped me maneuver through an array of further testing and neurosurgeons. I underwent a craniotomy and aneurysm clipping four weeks ago. I'm recovering well, and my prognosis is encouraging. Needless to say, I am greatly indebted to Dr Wood, Kris Thompson, and the other staff of Northwest Hills Eye Care for taking such excellent care of me. read more

If you're looking for a trusted adviser when it comes to your vision, Dr. Miller is a solid choice. Based solely on a recommendation from a friend who is in a related vision services field, I began seeing Dr. Miller several years ago. With much of life, you get out of it what you put into it, and during my first visit with Dr. Miller, we spent a relatively decent amount of time discussing various aspects of vision, and that conversation has laid the groundwork for a very pleasant and ongoing relationship ever since. While their optometry department carries the latest and greatest, pricing is a bit steep (granted, it's essentially all high end "labels"). To that end, it's hard to argue with the Warby Parker model, but the convenience Northwest Hills Eye Care offers, and the service that Joe provides, is equally hard to argue with. My son has been coming here since he was three years old. He is currently 13. Dr. Miller has been very patient and very good with him. He has special needs. She always makes sure he's comfortable and they've done a fabulous job with him throughout the many years we have been going there. I would highly recommend. This place was terrific. Dr. Wood took so much time with mom, explaining everything and was very, very thorough. Then, she offered some suggestions to help mom see better that were age appropriate and economically reasonable. Wow! Why didn't I think of that! The staff definitely liked to laugh and the gal that helped us choose frames couldn't have been more pleasant. Their prices seemed very reasonable, as well. I plan to come here for my own eye exam and glasses in the near future. Huge selection of frames and all the important gadgets and gizmos to get the job done. Fun, nice, caring and professional. Do you value your eyesight? If yes, STAY AWAY. I sat in a waiting room, half-blind (since I'd taken out my contacts) and waited for Dr. Miller. From what I remember, scheduling with her was slightly impossible since she only worked a few days out of the week and only during school hours because she has young children. So I waited... and waited... and waited... A solid 20 minutes later, Dr. Miller entered the room and started my examination right away. The exam itself lasted a total of 10 minutes and she didn't once even ask my name! Really? Maybe I had turned into a giant sparkling green dollar sign at that point and she didn't think I had a name anymore. Either way, I was not pleased with the exam. When I tried to ask questions about some eyesight trouble I had been having, she rushed me off because she had to go pick up her kids. I agree with the last reviewer - I've had better (and cheaper) examinations at Wal-Mart. Stay away, your eyes deserve better. read more

I went to NW Hill Eyecare for a little over 3 years. The service and staff for the first couple were excellent. This last year, unfortunately, has been a terrible experience in my opinion. I agree with all the other posts about the staff being difficult to deal with. I had to regularly call 2-3 times and leave multiple voicemails to finally get a return call back. When you do FINALLY get the staff on the phone, they normally act like you are inconveniencing them by calling. I ordered contacts this past January and found out that one box did not come in with the shipment after driving over to the office - a call to forewarn me would have been nice. When the missing box finally did come in, they expected me to drive back in and get it - for a 2nd time - even though this was not my fault. I asked the receptionist to kindly mail them to me, but she refused. At which point, I escalated the situation to Dr. Miller. It was only after this escalation to Dr. Miller that they agreed to ship my contacts. I should have just left after that point as the entire process was a headache and the staff made zero effort to accommodate or fix their mistake without an escalation to their boss. The most recent episode is absolutely why I will be moving on. I ordered a pair of glasses, but after 3-4 visits, updates, check-ups, etc. - the team STILL could not get my glasses prescription right. Finally, I told them I would like a refund as I did not have time to keep coming in to fix their problem. It's unacceptable for an eye care company to not be able to get a glasses prescription right. The icing on the cake -- I had to call, email, and even send a tweet to FINALLY get a short, and unfriendly answer back from Dr. Miller that my glasses refund check was in the mail. Not even an apology for wasting so much of my time. This place is going downhill fast. Dr. Miller seems to be pretty unaware of how her staff treats customers. I would have been a customer of hers for many, many years to come had her staff - and frankly had she - done the right thing. Do yourself a favor and find another eye doctor around town. Dr. Stola and the fitting technicians are kind and helpful. However, the staff handling money are terrible. When I first called in, I was given an exact quote of how much the visit would cost, and so I booked an appointment. I went in, had my check-up, and paid that quoted amount. Later that afternoon, I got a call saying they undercharged me by close to $70. I refused. They redid the math, and I paid an extra $7. I can handle that. Now, 6 months later, I've received a letter in the mail from a collections agency for $31 I supposedly owe the clinic, plus $20 collection fee. Really? I didn't receive anything in the mail from Dr. Stola's office, and they never even called me. I paid way too much up front to be dealing with these shenanigans. read more

I see a lot of the reviews are for the doctors. I am writing this review as a customer of the optometry department. I am so impressed with this busines! I brought in my 2.5 year old twins by myself, very close to closing time. Joe was extremely helpful, and friendly, and the entire expereince was easy. (Much easier than you'd expect with the patient and her twin brother in tow.) I see there is a picture posted of the waiting room. What they really should have a photo of is the kids corner. It was awesome. I could leave my son there to play while we arranged for my daughter's glasses. Her glasses were ready -- early -- and the pick up was also just as easy. Prices are outrages and many hidden fees when you get to checkout. Examples: 1. I have a 300$ budget from my insurence, they offered me 4 packages of 90 daily contact lenses. I went over to adifferent eye-care (near HEB on Jollyvile) and they gave me the same 4 packs but with additional 2 packs of 30 contact lenses within this 300$ budget. 2. Both my daughter and my wife wanted to have glasses, and with their prices they hardly got one each and they had to compromise on th frame quality. In the other eye-care, we not only got exactly what we choose, we also replaced the lenses within the old glasses, and left with a 50$ leftover from the 300$ budget!!! Stay away. read more

My whole family has been seeing Dr. Miller since 2007. We all adore her and now we really like Dr. Stola too. They have been with us through eye infections, allergy seasons, new glasses, a lazy eye (fixed!), myopia and more. All four of us wear glasses and two of us wear contacts on a regular basis. The entire staff is always nice and helpful. They always greet me immediately when I walk in the door and the check out process is generally quick. I love the optimap option instead of having my eyes dilated, even though it costs about $38 out of pocket. Instead of dilating your eyes and doing a one-time look, they take a picture of your eyeball (techinical term) and then show you that picture during your exam. They explain what they are looking at and whether it looks healthy and normal. Both Dr. Miller and Dr. Stola are great with my kids. And, they always take time to answer all of my questions. read more

My appointment was on January 20th However I have been coming to Dr. Laura Miller's office for over 5 years . I appreciated How the front desk staff was very conscious of the covid-19 precautions . The screaming Personnel was also very aware of Covid-19 by disinfecting the screening instruments before and after my use . Dr. Wood Has been an excellent source of information regarding my Visual Disability . Dr. Wood always answers the many questions that I have and is very patient. Dr. Wood who is very well-versed in low vision Is very informative and guides me to AT devices that are best for my visual loss and my needs. Coming to Dr. Laura Miller's office has helped me In so many ways personally and professionally. In June I received a bachelor's degree in Rehabilitation studies was in part due to the assistive technology devices that are Evaluated and provided by this clinic. read more

I've had 20/20 vision all of my life, until I started getting these awful headaches. One day, I was reading, rubbed my right eye, and noticed I couldn't read a blamed thing from my left eye! Presbyopia smacks fast and hard in my family, and it looks like it was my turn. My husband is legally blind without his glasses or contacts. When his vision plan changed some years back, he started coming to Northwest Hills, and loved it, so he got me an appointment. Like I said, I have always had 20/20 vision, and the last time I was ever in an optometrist's office involved my mom trying to talk me out of colored contacts back when I was in high school. The staff was patient and understanding, Dr Miller herself defines perky optimism, and when it was time to pick the glasses out, the staff took the time and were honest about what frames did or did not look good on me, and wanted to be sure I was happy with my decision, and the frames fit right. The last time I went, Dr Miller had that new retina imaging machine. She always seems to find new ways to make technology work for her patients. read more

When we moved to NW Austin, I was reluctant to change eye doctors from ours in Oak Hill. Even before we were patients there, the staff at NW Hills always welcomed us if my son's glasses got bent at school and needed adjustment. This was "above and beyond" to me. We finally became patients, and I just took my son for his first appointment. Scheduling was easy, the staff were all nice, and the exam was thorough, including the digital Optomap, which saves the trouble of having your eyes dilated. They looked up my insurance information, explained all of the costs, and helped my son find some new sports glasses. We were completely happy with our visit. read more

I switched Optometrists because my previous provider (Austin Vision Associates) was too far away from me and their service had degraded over the years. The doctors were nice but the staff and store next door were not very sociable. They seemed preoccupied and disinterested. The interaction that sealed the deal for my divestment from AVA was when I went shopping for new glasses in the store right next to them in the same building. I walked in and was immediately overwhelmed by the layout of the store. I asked the associate how they organized their glasses because there were no signs indicating which gender or brand was displayed. She had ignored me until I engaged her. Her response was strike number 1. She said "Oh, well we organize them so we can manage them. It's easier for us." Strike 2 was when she said the wait would be 15 minutes before I would get help to find a pair of glasses. Strike 3 was when I waited for 15 minutes and no one engaged me. So I left. I needed a new prescription so I made an appointment with AVA. They couldn't see me for 10 days. And that was that. I found NWHE using Google and Yelp reviews. So I was gambling based on reviews. But I definitely came out ahead. Northwest Hills Eyecare impressed me from the moment I walked in. I was greeted with a smile and noticed that the store was very welcoming. The glasses were organized with the customer in mind. There was no delay for my appointment, for which I had to wait only 6 days. They had a nice waiting area with coffee and water, with comfortable seats. Their equipment for the exam seems to be brand new, high quality. Dr. Stola was very nice and efficient. I was able to find a pair of glasses that fit my personality within 10 minutes. The very first pair the associate picked out for me was the pair I went with. They were incredible affordable and came with a 1 year warranty. In less than 7 business days, I got my glasses. They are crystal clear and it's the first time I've seen the world in this high of definition in over 2 years. I couldn't be happier with the service I received and I will go back to them the next time I need eye care. read more
