Just found this place by the grace. About a week ago I noticed my inner eye was a bit tender when I rubbed it. Didn't think much until the ext day. I made a teladoc visit and over the video meeting the doctor told me I more than likely had pink eye. Jump to today when the issue had gotten worse. I went to a doc and they told me I need to see a specialist asap. I immediately started calling all over trying to find an appointment. Luckily Premier eyecare was able to fit me in today. The office space was fantastic. The office staff was very kind and very welcoming. I waited no longer than maybe 10 minutes as I filled out paperwork before I was seen. As soon as I was taken back, the first person took notes and did all the paperwork for the doctor. I was sat in another space waited about two minutes, and the doctor saw me. This is were it gets good. Dr. McCluskey was so kind and was able to understand my concerns quite fast. She looked over my eye after I gave her the run down of the time line and what I had been told todo. She gave me way better insight (no-pun intended). I left feeling more at ease with the appearance of my eye. I was very worried prior because of fear of vision loss or any kind of eye damage. I feel so lucky that they could fit me in and she knew what was going on. I have a follow up in a few weeks but I'm sure I will not need to edit this review. I would place a photo by I fear it would be taken down. My eye looks a mess but with Dr. McCluskey's advice and knowledge I feel confident things will be clear soon again. read more

I had experienced a corneal laceration. I called the morning after an evening visit in urgent care. They worked me into Drs schedule and very kindly saw me every morning till healed. I thank you all for your kindness! Will highly recommend this practice!!! read more

They did not honor my annual check-up, instead of charging me. I called them to move up my annual check-up as my insurance allow it. I have been there more than 10 years. It became so bad this couple years. read more

I have been especially happy with the part of the eye exam when the technician asks: is 1 or 2 better? Okay is a or b better? I'd never had confidence in my answers until my past two eye exams when I came here, to Premier. The technicians didn't rush me through the process at all and were, in fact, encouraging me to take my time and be sure of my answers. I very much like Dr. Brent. I've learned both from him and from the technicians important information about diabetes and eye health. read more

I have seen Dr. Brent and his staff every year for at least 15 years. While the medical care continues to be excellent, I have had a very tough time with the admin and bill payment staff. I will not be returning. read more

I've seen Dr. Brent for 15 years or so - he has seen me through glasses, contacts, and performed my lasik surgery. He is an excellent ophthalmologist and has a great bedside manner. He is to the point and direct in his own soft spine way but will also take more time if you have questions. I am always able to easily schedule an appointment and they stay pretty on schedule which is unusual for any doctor in any field. He has also seen my four kids as they have grown up and needed glasses/contacts. I have and will continue to recommend Dr. Brent and Premier Eye Care to friends. read more

Probably ok if you don't have a real eye issue. I was referred here to see Dr. McCluskey. by a great friend. I then purchased eye glasses while here for that exam appointment. I was supposed to only pay out of pocket $10 doc visit and $100 glasses. After returning for a second visit because I couldn't see to drive with the glasses they had made I was charged an additional $80 to fix the glasses' prescription. Plus I was originally charged for "extras" that were not included in my insurance that were part of the first pair but not used in the second replacement pair. Bottom line I got my replacement for the mistake pair from them and they are worse than the first mistake and neither is as good as the awful glasses I was wearing. This second pair was made with inferior lens material and not like the first pair (I spent for upgraded materials). I was not offered the difference back. They now tell me I can't see because of cataracts and not the new glasses. I find that hard to believe since I can see with my old pair much better than either of the pair of glasses they made this year. I spent right at $300 (for a $110 copay) plus used up my insurance for the year along with 8 trips back to them over the course of 3-1/2 months. My time is worth more than messing around with all of this. I cannot imagine that anyone with "real" eye issues would use this place for eye appointments. I'm gently tell the friend that referred me. But I'll tell you - his glasses don't flatter his appearance anyway. read more

I was referred here by my optometrist to have some issues with my left eye investigated further. I was a little nervous as I was concerned about what could be taking place with my eye. I found the nurse practitioner personable and efficient. The only time I waited was after I had my eye dialated, but that is to be expected. When I saw Dr. Brent, I found him to be very thorough, knowledgable and genuinely interested in my vision, instead of the "yeah, you have an eyeball, next!" type of experience I have had with other physicians. I will definitely be returning to him for my eye care in the future. read more

Parking is terrible unless you catch the shuttle. It's inside the Seton NW building off of 183 near Braker. Convenient for me, which is the main reason I chose this place. Nurse/associate was very nice, friendly and professional. Long waiting times before and in-between screening and doctor visit. Doctor spent about 2 minutes with me. Did NOT automatically order a trial pair of contacts or schedule a follow-up with trial lenses to ensure fit before I ordered a year's supply of boxes. I had to ask for a pair...which they didn't have in stock and had to order. Not sure I will go back. Why is it so hard to find a good eye doctor? read more

Dr. McCluskey spent less than 5 minutes with us, was called out for an emergency and did not diagnose or treat the issue correctly. Did a follow up and still failed to give us the proper diagnosis. We then had to go see a different doctor to correctly diagnose and fix the issue. read more

Before today I would have stood my ground against anyone who had anything negative to say about Premier Eye Care and Dr. Brent. I am a very long time patient (aka customer) of Dr. Brent. He was the only eye doctor in Austin at the time who could diagnose a very unique condition that occurs intermittently and must be treated promptly otherwise scarring occurs. I was advised to keep a bottle of the prescription in my refrigerator at all times and call when new occurrences. I had my last exam with him back in October 2016 time frame and had reported no issues for several years. This morning, I woke up with said condition and promptly called the doctor's office to obtain an updated prescription since I had not had one in so long and had only a few drops of some very old medication left not knowing whether it would still be good. I was confronted by not only the office staff but the technician, Doris. I was treated as if I were an alien asking for something I had never had before. I asked they get my request over to Dr. Brent and he would confirm my situation. Well apparently things in that office have changed and not for the best. Normally Dr. Brent would address the eye infection first and make sure I got into see him soon after. That was not the case today. He was more concerned about the appointment than the health of my eye. I don't know when the change occurred from "make sure you keep this available at all times" to sorry, you have to come in first attitude. Because of this I am choosing to part with a doctor whose trust I've held for so many years over an appointment. I'm very sad to make this decision but wish him and his practice well in the future. read more

One of the few eye places in Austin who take Scott & White insurance for contact exams. Not easy to find as it is nestled in the behemoth Seton North medical complex. Parking is an adventure but at least it is free. Unless you know where it is, get there 30-45 minutes early to orient yourself. The office is near the 183 north access road. Anyway, staff are really friendly and if you bring a copy of your most recent prescription they might just waive your fitting fee like they did mine. They said it was $50 there and other places I called told me up to $125! The Dr. was cordial, patient and efficient gave me a thorough exam, dilated my pupils, and even wrote me a prescription for glasses. Would highly recommend this place. read more

My son broke his glasses at camp about an hour before his scheduled eye appointment at the Dell Children's Eye Center upstairs in this same building. When we went to his appointment I asked if they had a small screw driver so I could attempt to repair his glasses. They did not. While we were waiting for his eyes to dilate I spotted Premier Eye Care on the first floor. I popped in to see if they could repair his glasses. They whisked his glasses right to the back and did the repair in about 2 minutes. Everyone we encountered in the office was so nice and helpful. And, they didn't even charge me! This review is the least I could do to say thank you... thank you for your kindness! It's much appreciated. read more

In mid-January on a Saturday afternoon I lost vision in my left eye. I called Premier Eye Care and Dr. McClusky was on call that weekend. She arranged to meet me at their office at Seton NW Hospital building. She was waiting for me, examined my eyes and correctly diagnosed the condition. She began immediate treatment and after my eyes stabilized I was admitted to Seton NW's ER unit. Dr. McClusky took a personal interest to make sure I was treated correctly and spoke to the ER doctor giving her observations and diagnosis, which were later confirmed at Dell Seton, Austin. Because of Dr. McClusy's treatment no serious damage occurred to my eyes. Dr. Brent and Dr. McClusky, with their friendly and professional staff, have taken care of our eyes since 2004. read more

I'm pretty happy with Dr. Brent. He's been my doc for a long time and he's great. The front desk staff, not so much. Any request you make, any questions you ask are ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS an imposition of some sort to them. When you call and ask a question, they ALWAYS act like they are doing you the biggest favor in the world by answering you or giving you information. Take the good with the bad I guess. read more

Dr. Brent was rude and provided poor customer service. Avoid this place. I was prescribed an eye medicine that was $250 after insurance. When I asked the CVS pharmacy to contact him to see if there was an alternative he told them to contact the drug companies for making things so expensive. We then asked that he send over a new prescription which he did for a more expensive medicine with a coupon only valid at Walgreens that still made it more expensive than the original $250. read more

I have VSP insurance, and picked Premier Eye Care after seeing they are almost the only optomologist in Austin that are in network. Dr. McCluskey has been my eye doctor for the past three years or so. I've always been seen at my appointment time or within 10 minutes. It seems like the longest part is the wait from having my eyes dialated to actually seeing the doctor. As others have said, Andy in the optical department is extremely knowledgeable. They are open until 6:00 PM on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, which makes it easy for picking up my glasses when they come in. This last time, they actually came in one week, instead of two that Andy said (it is Thanksgiving time, end of the year so people spending the end of the flexible spending account, etc. read more

My favorite ophthalmologist ever! Dr. Brent is honest, fast, funny and a genuinely kind person! He has taken amazing care of my eyesight, and he did not hesitate to refer me to a subspecialist when he felt my eye condition might need surgery. He was right too! He has an efficient and experienced office staff who will get you in for an appointment as soon as possible if you have a problem. The saavy older lady at the front desk dropped everything for me when I called about a sudden change in my vision, and she made sure I was seen urgently. These folks are great. They are prompt with their appointments, the doctors are engaged with each patient, explaining all the options, and customer service is great. Recently I needed to get a new pair of contacts, and my prescription needs to be custom made. I came in at 3:30pm on a Thursday, they called the manufacturer and had the contacts waiting for me to pick up locally at 10am the next morning before my noon flight. Really beyond what i expected, but what great service for a paitent! read more

Don't waste your time seeing B. David Brent, MD. I'll start off by mentioning that the staff was great and very helpful. I was referred to Dr. Brent by my general doctor for an eye infection. Dr. Brent's staff took the time to note the medications I was previously prescribed and the other details leading up to the infection. When I sat down with Dr. Brent I could tell he was rushing the visit because the office was very busy. He had diagnosed the infection before seeing me and did was not listening to anything else I had to say. Dr. Brent told me he knew exactly what I had and that he was going to have my pharmacy get a prescription ready. He sent in a prescription for the exact medication I had previously been prescribed. Of course this upset me because it was an $80 medication. I called his office and let them know what happened, so he sends in an alternative medication. Guess what!? It was the other medication that I had previously been prescribed! If Dr. Brent would have read what his staff put in my profile, or listened to me when I broke it down for him then I would not have wasted my time and money. read more

We had a horrible experience at Premier.I took my 2 young boys for an eye exam.Our appointment was at 4 pm and we were seen by the doctor at 6 pm!Everyone,including the staff had left for the day and we were still waiting to be seen.The front desk lady was rude in more ways than one.The doctor was fine and apologized for the long wait time.I think there are plenty of other places in town with better customer service. read more

I've been seeing Dr. McCluskey since 1996. The staff has always been courteous year after year. Dr. McCluskey is always very professional and thorough. Appointments are kept close to the scheduled time with only an occasional lapse. Parking is easy at Seton NW. Purchasing contacts and glasses is easy and samples are readily given upon request if you need some to bridge the gap with daily disposables. My family will continue going here for the foreseeable future. read more

Be careful of Dr. Byron Brent if you are his patient make sure he is listening and doesn't belittle any concerns you have. I told him that I was having difficulties with my vision in one eye, to which he blamed it on my age. What I discovered, that it was glaucoma, but by the time it was discovered, by another doctor, the damaged to the eye was irreversible. Please treat your eyes with more respect than he does. read more

An interesting experience. I chose Dr. Byron Brent because his office accepted my medical insurance. I went to get my eyes tested for a new pair of eyeglasses and for contact lenses. I had a fairly small wait time, which is great, while I filled out my new patient forms and flipped through a magazine. I was called by a technician, Charlotte, who took me to an office and then proceeded to run a variety of eye exams. What surprised me was when she asked me to read the eye chart (the one fillled with letter and numbers in the form of a pyramid). She noted my new prescription and then put in drops to dilate my pupils. I was led to a small waiting room to wait till my pupils were sufficiently dilated. After some time, I was called by another technician to Dr. Brent's office where I waited again. Dr. Brent came in and checked my eyes with a very bright light. He pronounced that everything was okay and we then discussed a bit about my eye prescription because of astigmatism in one of my eyes. I must confess that I was concerned that it was not the doctor himself who checked to ascertain my prescription but he told me that the machine and tests done earlier were close in readings. The toric contact lenses, to correct astigmatism, that I needed for a try out (an extra $50 fee for this) was not available. I am waiting while the contact lenses are being ordered. I was told about 5 business days. One more thing, don't forget to bring sunglasses or ask for the disposable sunglasses at the front desk after your eyes are dilated. The sun is way too bright outside and it takes a few hours before your eyes become more normal and reading or writing becomes possible. read more

I think it depends on the day you go for some reason. I went about 3 yrs ago and it took way too long to be seen from my appointment time. I then hopped to a couple of other eye doctors in the area and wasn't too pleased with those either, so I decided to try this one again. This last time that I went I was seen fairly quickly (probably about a 5-10min wait from my appt time), but the best part of this visit was Doris. If you have an opportunity to go here for an eye exam you should ask to be taken care of by Doris. She is such an awesome person, she *really* knows her job and she's just a charismatic person; made me laugh and it felt like it was a good day after being with her. Did I mention she really knows her job? Anyway, Dr Brent was pretty friendly too, though I spent only about 3min with him at the end and I never even saw him since I had my contacts out and couldn't see. Basically go here and ask to see Doris :) read more

The most un-personable experience ever! From the minute I walk in the door to the time I'm rushed out. The women at the front are very cold and un-welcoming. They never even look up from the computer to properly greet me. And coming from a health care office myself, I know how important it is to make a good first impression and they failed. When it was time to see the doctor for my exam, she was also very cold and didn't seem to care much about any of my concerns and I had several. She responded to me like I was stupid and didn't know what I was talking about which I thought was very disrespectful. I felt rushed through my appt and rushed out of the office. The only enjoyable experience were the two gentlemen helping with my contacts. They were the only two in that whole office to treat me like a person. They are very patient and took the time to help me until I was satisfied before moving on to the next patient. Furthermore, I received a statement in the mail that I was a little surprised to get and when I called to speak with someone about it, the lady that answered was very rude and condescending. And when I mentioned that I was leaving the practice due to lack of bed side manor she continued to get more attitude with me and spoke to me like I was stupid. Not the kind of practice I want to be involved with. Hope they can learn to treat people like people and not trash. Thanks for nothing Premier Eye Care!! read more
