Rude, uncaring, disrespectful staff. Cannot recommend, and I see others feel the same way too. If there are great doctors here, its a real shame their customer service isn't better. My husband tried 3 times this week to get an appointment with the Libertyville office. The receptionist (same person each time) was incredibly rude, disrespectful and very unwilling to help. She should be fired and I cannot believe that this person would be allowed to work there based on this experience. This was the absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced with a healthcare company. I called for my husband not too long ago today and she rudely hung up on me while I was - very nicely may I add - explaining how much pain my husband was in, and that there is a technology issue with receiving information via fax to get an appointment scheduled. There is something wrong with this person. My husband's doctor faxed paperwork over 3 different times this week and they are telling us they are not getting it - hence why I was hoping for an alternative way to receive the paperwork needed to get the appointment. Seems they do not care much for patients or trying to assist with resolving any issues like this that come up. At this point, I'm not even sure I want my husband in the care of this place. A simple test was all that was needed to get scheduled, if they cannot even get that right, how can we trust their medical services too? read more

I have been with Dr. Katsamakis and his Team for over Five years now. I've been through many rough times and he has helped Me every time. I couldn't imagine going anywhere else for a Doctor. The Doctor will gladly talk with you as well as his Nurse. I don't understand all the whining I see in the other comments except people just like complaining. I've been a patient at NWN on and off since 1998 when I developed migraines following head trauma. I'd seen Dr. Sherman at that time. My migraines tapered off several years ago but came back this February a vengeance: I was having them nearly constantly, which was impacting my mood, sleep, ability to function, and ability to participate in activities. I decided to go back to NWN when my regular GP started suggesting that my oral contraceptives, which I've been taking for oh... the past 17 years, were probably to blame and was pushing me to stop taking them. She was then dismissive about my concerns regarding the CT scan she ordered (she refused to order an MRI - it was CT scan or nothing). I knew the doctors here were experienced and would explore all other testing and medical avenues before making any pushy or rash decisions. I saw Dr. Kuhlman at the suggestion of my mother (she worked for NWN for 12 years). I'm glad she suggested him: he is very knowledgeable, kind, and thorough. He took his time with me and explored various avenues of treatment. He ordered blood work, MRIs, and attempted different medications and supplements with me to see what was effective. Before prescribing anything, he also discussed possible side effects (including impact on oral contraceptives). If I wasn't comfortable with a certain drug or its possible side effects, he suggested others. I appreciate that he took my comfort and opinion into consideration. I also saw Dr. Khan for a Botox consult at the suggestion of Dr. Kuhlman. Dr. Khan was also knowledgeable, thorough, and took his time discussing my symptoms. He was so through with his explanation of Botox (what it is, how it's used for migraines, how it's administered, side effects, frequency of injections, and whether or not he thought I qualified) that I didn't have a single question for him! When he was unsure about the qualification period, he excused himself to find the answer. I admire that in professionals (hey, we can't know everything about everything)! Less than a month after I sought treatment from Dr. Kuhlman, my migraines have significantly decreased in both frequency and intensity. Those who have experienced ongoing/chronic medical issues can understand what relief it is to have the issue lessened or eliminated. While much of the staff at NWN aren't overly friendly, I highly recommend the doctors. They explore ALL avenues of treatment and don't stop until they find a solution. In the future I'll make sure I go straight to the specialists and cut out the GPs! read more

Dr. Sohal Patel is easily the least competent physician that treated my mother during her two year fight with small cell lung cancer. He represents a classic case of the substandard physician who will say or do anything when he is under the impression he can't be evaluated. As I worked many years in neuroscience research this wasn't the case for this particular patient. Moreover, I had several physician friends provide second opinions on her condition and treatment. What was most alarming is that physicians on staff at Alexian appeared to be concerned about Dr. Patel's absence. There needs to be more frequent and virulent condemnation of physicians by their peers when substandard care is being provided. Dr. Patel became involved with her care due to her near lethal hyponatremia (low sodium) that triggered neurological effects. Specifically he 1) made clinical statements that were factually incorrect (i.e. that she couldn't be experiencing cerebral edema) 2) was unavailable at critical times 3) billed excessively. Other physicians on staff, including my mother's nephrologist, appeared to be very concerned about his lack of visibility. As mentioned, I contacted several physician friends who disagreed with the severity of her condition that lead to a week-long hospital stay. What should happen now? 1) Alexian Brothers should revoke Dr. Sohal Patel's hospital privileges. 2) His physician partners at Northwest Neurology should scrutinize his clinical decision making and outcomes more carefully and possibly remove him from the practice. 3) Medicare should carefully check his billings for each and every consult. 4) Dr. Patel should identify a different vocation and consider switching careers. Note, this is not whining patient advocate. The family interfaced with physicians at five different universities (U. Chicago, Northwestern, Rush, Vanderbilt, and University of Vienna Austria) along with myriad professionals at Alexian Brothers. Dr. Patel clearly stood out as the worst. read more

In my opinion this is one of the most callous and dismissive organizations that I have had the misfortune of meeting. Turned his back on my wife and said he could not help her any longer. I've been going to see Dr. Laura Goldstein, religiously for over a year now, at her Arlington Heights location. Let me just tell you what happened today that set me on fire: I arrived 10 minutes early and signed in. The Receptionist asks me if I knew why my appointment was cancelled. If I knew that, Honey, I would not have shown up. She informs me that another patient of Dr. Goldstein's has taken my time slot. She excuses herself and returns, asking ME if I would come back to see the Doctor at 2:45m. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? The next available date for me now is May 8. WTF! A huge set back in my opinion. I have never cancelled, rescheduled or shown up late for a scheduled appointment with Dr. Goldstein. I don't have health insurance; yet, I have never missed paying in full upon my departure. I don't think it's fair that I get turned away for my 1pm appointment due to someone in her office's mistake. It was inappropriate to ask me to rearrange my day. The patient piggy backing on my time should been asked to make accommodations. There is an office policy posted on their wall: appointments are not cancelled in 24 hours impose a $25 fee. Dr. Goldstein and her staff will be hearing from me. I expect restitution for wasting my time and the time of others responsible for driving me to these offices and hospitals for appointments. Dr. Goldstein knows my affliction and cocktail of medications dissallows driving, so what was the Neurologist thinking? read more

This place is ridiculous!! They sent my MRI bill to collects after 30 days!!...... Oh wait!!! That was after I had tried calling to pay it and sitting on hold for over 15 min, numerous times in that last month!! Good way to loose patients! read more

I love Dr. Danielle Anderson. She is kind, caring and understanding. She has been willing to work with me with my medication for trigeminal neuralgia. I haven't had any problems like others described here. In fact, I am thrilled to have found such a wonderful doctor less than 2 minutes from home. read more

I have been a patient for 20 years. I needed a refill and cannot get the doctor or nurse or a human to answer the phone!! Over 3 days days and left 9 messages and NO ONE has called me back! I am now out of this med. This place is to be avoided. I will be looking for a new doctor! read more

The front desk lady Cindy constantly has an attitude problem over the phone when making appointments or asking questions as well as in person. I notified the office she needs better customer service skills. Overall the doctors are great just the front desk NEEDS someone new to handle incoming calls and dealing with patients in person!!!!! They also don't notify you on hidden charges for paperwork to be filled out by the doctor and faxed. We were ripped off almost $50. read more

George Katsamakis and Lisa Jackson are honestly the best. I don't know how I would get through my diagnosis and path with MS without them. I feel like they truly care about me and I completely trust them! They really care about their patients are doing and I feel comfortable every time I am there. I never feel rushed and never feel ignored. They are ALWAYS there when I need them and they have made several "emergency" favors for me. I couldn't even make an appointment for my brother. I asked for an appt for my brother with doctor Rubin (referral from my brother's regular MD). The caller taker said that Dr only works with hospital patients. Then I asked for another doctor, preferably a female. She, the caller taker, then asked for insurance information, but would NOT allow me to give it to her. She just kept talking, she liked hearing herself talk. It would have been much easier if she simply would have said we are NOT taking any more new patients. Geez. What a ring around the circus. Even if there was an opening no way taking my brother here. My wife has been a patient of Doctor Katsamakis for a couple of years, and despite chronic lateness on the part of the doctor's office, the first time she was 15 minutes late they turned her away, and after begging to be seen for active symptoms, the dr and the staff treated her with serious disrespect. Trying to reach Northwest Neurology on the phone is the worst. Besides the ONE CALL CENTER phone number, which is impossibly long to get through to, in my experience the call center people that answer are abrupt and rude. Their phone system is the worst. They have one phone number, which is a main call center somewhere, and this is the only number offered to anyone to contact all their doctors, all their clinic locations - they have 5 locations. It is extremely hard to get through, and when I do it's automatically disconnected when I'm waiting on the phone too long. Today I simply wanted to arrange to get medical records for 1 former office visit. I called that main number at 4:15 pm. Which should have been fine, because by their website the actual office was open until 5:00 pm. I was put on hold for 11 minutes, and then it disconnected. I never got to speak to 1 person in all that time, and even if I did it would have been an operator somewhere that would have to re-routed me somewhere else. I immediately called back, it was 4:27 pm. A recorded message said to call back another day before 4:30 pm! This phone number does not take messages unless you are a physician. It simply says call back. You can't call before 9:00 am, can't call between 12 noon and 1 pm, and can't call after 4:30 pm. However, by my experience, you can't even call in the 4:00 hour even though actual office closes at 5:00 pm. (There is a way to get through in emergencies that the recording says.) Besides that, when I last called for an appointment, the person on the phone was rude. She was abrupt, impatient, and made some rude comments as I was trying to get information on the times and locations where we could see the doctor for my son's next medical appointment. I was nice, but she treated me in a mean and derisive manner. I first told her my availability, and a few minutes later she got what I said wrong, which is fine, but then she yelled at me and told me that I said something different before! And she made a derogatory comment which I can't recall. That was so weird, I was only polite. I had not said something different before, even my son in the room heard. He and I both said, "Wow. I never heard an office person be so rude before, and SHE was the one who got it wrong". Even if someone changed their mind about availability, that is expected, the caller has to work out arrangements. That's why it was weird. She had some verbally abusive/rude comments to me which I can't recall, treating me like she was scolding a 6-year old, and I couldn't believe how she was acting towards me. I was only nice back the entire phone call, but it was a terrible experience. The purpose for my call was to make a follow-up appointment with the same doctor my son had before, and if it weren't for that I would never go near Northwest Neurology again. They seriously need to change their phone availability to patients and get some nicer, decent staff. read more

Horrible patient experience and care from this 'practice' with Dr George Katsamakis..he handed me booklets and told me 'this one makes your hair fall out, this one makes your heart beat slow down, this one brings down your wbc..read these and come back in 2 weeks and tell me what you want to take. Zero guidance. Made crucial, glaring mistakes on my medical records, glaring errors that are on my permanent records that was a total humiliation for me to explain to other Drs. other patients in his waiting room crying at the receptionist because of the poor treatment she was receiving, he also missed a crucial element of my care and symptoms, do not go here you will be sorry you did. Find another Neurologist at a larger Medical Facility like Northwestern in Chicago they are top notch and will take care of you properly. They are not organized, they humiliate the patients and insult their intelligence, and and miss crucial attention to your symptoms that could provide the right direction to your care. I've seen Dr. Katsamakis and Lisa Jackson for the last 5 years and I can honestly say they are the best team of MS specialists I've ever seen. I've seen several neurologists as I've moved around the country and these two are the most thorough, kindest, caring team. I read the other reviews and to be honest it sounds like they're taking about a different doctor! I've never had a bad experience there. Dr. K and Lisa always listen to everything I say, are very patient, and truly work with me on helping me feel my best. They've helped me get the support I need without hesitation, are great about filling out forms for claims and sending medical records. Prescriptions and orders for tests or PT are always on time and I never have to call to follow up, it's just done and done right the first time. I love that I can get my MRI done right there in the office right before my appointment. I even referred my mom to see Dr. Farbman when she needed a Neuro and he was just as kind and helpful. I refer anyone I know with MS to Dr. K and I'm sorry to see that others didn't have such a great experience. read more

I have been a patient with Northwest Neurology for three years. I have a complicated medical history. As the other reviewers mentioned, every doctor and nurse I have met was kind, thorough and helpful. They are always up to date on the latest treatments and explain side effects and potential long-term effects. The office is far more efficient than others I have been to, but expect to wait a day or two if you want them to call back about non-urgent matters. However, they handled my prescriptions, insurance company changes and even pre-approvals quickly and few issues. I would recommend the entire staff to anyone. read more
