I have been sleeping on this place and I am ashamed I didn't try them sooner. The food is exactly what you'd want from a fish store. It tasted fresh, well seasoned, and juicy! I have tried the shrimp and salmon and legitimately felt it was better than most traditional sit down restaurants. It's well suited for take out but luckily since it's located in Tioga there's a few areas to eat and enjoy your food. I would say that it's a little on the pricy side for lunch.... But don't give it a second thought because absolutely worth it. You may end up buying yourself some fish to cook for dinner too who knows!? read more

This is my favorite place for seafood and fish. There's literally nothing they don't have, from fresh seafood to glass cases of things like fish dip, and salmon dip. I love Crunchmaster crackers with my salmon dip. They will cook anything you buy and have a daily special that's delicious always! They have really yummy fried okra and they have cheese, grits and hush puppies! I can't leave out the two daily chowders that they have. One is clam chowder, which is delicious and the other is sometimes shrimp chowder with a red base. Let me tell you about the best little seafood spot around. Northwest Seafood is some of the freshest seafood around. They buy from local fisherman and have killer deals on different fish throughout the week. Monday is usually a salmon deal. Wednesday's, they offer a fresh grouper sandwich (grilled/ fried) on a Kaiser with tomato and lettuce, and perfectly crispy fries for about $12. It is MORE than worth it in terms of value for the quality and size is substantial. I wish I would have taken a photo to post but my hubs and I scarfed it down. They are my favorite spot for the best clam chowder around, cedar key clam bushels straight from the marina, & some killer dips! Highly recommend checking them out if you're cooking any seafood & looking for great quality. Additionally, anything you buy from them, they can cook there for about 2-3 bucks extra. They sell TONS of local products and sauces and are a wealth of knowledge if you need an idea how to cook it! read more

Ordered a lunch of shrimp tacos with plantains and a side of sweet potato fries. The freshness of the shrimp combined with the sauce and veggies really went well together. You wouldn't be able to reproduce the freshness of such very fresh-caught seafood with say supermarket "fresh" shrimp. On top of this, they have myriad fresh fish as well. I have been here many, many times, and always had a great experience. This time I ordered 8oz swordfish blackened, grilled veggies, and sweet potato fries. The fish was cooked perfectly, the veggies were plentiful, and the fries were pretty fantastic. I usually ordered prepared food, as opposed to fresh to cook at home, and generally the quality is as good as you would get in a nice restaurant. And the people are nice. read more

They offer three types of fish dip including salmon fish dip in the refrigerated case packaged and ready to go and an assortment of gourmet crackers and cheese sticks if you need something to bring to a get together. We tried the smoked fish dip which was fresh and delicious for $8.99. Prudence Graciously offered to package the dip on ice twice if needed! We made our first visit today... we moved here from Texas and we LOVE crawfish and shrimp boils! Our plan for this afternoon was a shrimp boil... as soon as we walked in Taylor greeted us. Upon hearing it was our first time coming in, he devoted his time, energy, and knowledge to serving us! We walked out with 2.5 pounds of beautiful head-on shrimp and some fileted in house yellow tail snapper (to be fried tomorrow). This will not be our last trip in! Thank you again Taylor! read more

I love fresh seafood on Fridays or any day of the week actually and this shop has it. It's a fish market and café. They have a full kitchen and they cook and steam whatever you would like. The associates are courteous and offer excellent customer service. They offer take out and they have an area for you to eat in the market. read more

This is a review for their lunch counter. They have a nice lunch special for under ten bucks you can pick one of three items from the case (I usually get the shrimp) fried with two hush puppies, a soda, and a side (sweet potato fries ftw). The shrimp is always fresh and perfectly cooked. I'm hoping the oil spill doesn't affect their ability to get fresh shrimp : / They have some outside tables and a few stools inside for seating. I loved the Grouper dinner I got here. It was the closest thing I have ever had to the food I used to get from a little place in Ocala called Fish and Stuff that was run by MAD DADS and had to close down because it was constantly robbed at gun point as it was located adjacent to the projects (Most depressing restaurant story ever). They had the best fried fish and chicken wings you could ever find. The grouper dinner I had from NW seafood in TIOGA was almost identical to their grouper. Similarly perfect breading, top quality of meat, the perfect cole slaw, very similar tartar sauce made with dill I think. French fries were good but I showed up late to pick up my order and they weren't that fresh because of that. The people working inside were completely ideal. Maybe they all actually watched that Pike's Place Market motivational video, haha. (restaurants always show employees this video for some reason) My only grievance is the price. Unfortunately, good seafood is always a little more than you would hope. I am interested in the fact that they will cook whatever fish you buy. Porgy, one of my all time faves, which is like a snapper, is very cheap here and I might have to have them cook some up for me soon. I only found this place by going to Blue Highway, but there is another location on Millhopper I have to check out. read more

Beyond disappointing, yet again. I'm glad I held off writing this review for a little while, but now with full certainty I can say that this place offers inconsistent, frequently low quality and overpriced seafood. For the nth time we bought shrimp for $17 (!!!) a pound from here, to make out Christmas Eve meal, hoping for the best. Yet the shrimp was so mediocre and had a VERY STRONG metallic taste (and we used these shrimp in bisque!) that it totally ruined the entire dish. And this happened not for the first time, we had bad luck with shrimp from Northwest seafood before. From now own, I will know to buy lowest quality, frozen shrimp from publix and avoid this place that sells bottom of the barrel shrimp that should be used in Whiskas. Visiting friends sopped to try fried fish. Was VERY disappointed : fish was grouper , but fried in small bites like 1x1 in , not seasoned at all, so tasteless , also portion was pretty small for the money. French fries were pale , not salted, so - tasteless. Cle-slaw - no salt, pretty sweet and too much liquid . And all these for $ 15.89 ???? Threw everything to the trash ! By the way - waitress didn't give any fork or spoon and no napkins. Very poor service. Hope fresh fish was fine / at least looked like that / , but cooked - no interest to stop by again. read more

The Tioga location is the larger of the two Northwest Seafood locations and they also can prepare ready-to-eat food here, which they cannot at the Millhopper location. That's a plus, though in my experience their prepared food--a grouper sandwich with fries in my case--was nothing special. Their house tartar sauce though is very good, however. The grouper itself was a generous portion and cooked (fried) fine, but the bread used for the sandwich wasn't very impressive. Still, it's nice they can do this service and they can fix whatever fish you select from the case for cooking as well as the selections from their standing menu. All the fish in the case looked very fresh, and all the staff seem pretty well-informed on seafood in general. As they're at Tioga they seem to do a decent business too, so I don't think anything sits around very long. Probably the best place to get the freshest fish in Gainesville. read more

My family usually goes here to pick up fresh local seafood at competitive prices (iirc you can get fresh, jumbo shrimp for cheaper than grocery stores in the area) and hot food. I've been here for their Taco Tuesday ($9.99 for two fish/shrimp tacos and plantains) and the fish tacos and plantains are absolutely delicious, fresh, and well-seasoned.
