My family and I decided to stop here as we were traveling back from a trip on a Sunday night.. What a great decision it was! The staff were kind. The restaurant was nice and clean. We started off with the seafood dip. It was amazing! The cream base with the chunks of seafood served with the side of crackers was a perfect starter. We even asked for more! We had the catfish dinner, catfish and fried shrimp, dinner, and fish with black and shrimp dinner. The hush puppies that are served with each meal are cooked to perfection and have the perfect crisp on the outside. The fish is also fresh and cooked very well. They give you a very full plate, so we all left with leftovers to have for lunch the next day. This was the best Cedar River location. I've been to thus far, and I hope to be able to go there again.

Cedar River is a local favorite and has been around for over 40 years! I did grow up eating here as a kid and since moving back this was my first time having it in a long time. Cedar River is known for its seafood dishes, in addition to some classic Southern staples like collard greens, cornbread, grits, and Catfish. I did an order for pick up over the phone which was pretty easy and simple. I ordered the Trio which comes with 2 sides and hush puppies. My picks were the fried gator tail, broiled Grouper, and deviled crab. For my sides, I went with the stewed okra and tomatoes and green beans. The portion sizes were pretty good for the price of the dinner as well. I'll start with the good - the fried gator tail bites were fried perfectly and the gator wasn't chewy or rubbery at all. The grouper was seasoned very well and did not have a fishy taste at all. I would've easily paired it with some cheesy grits and been satisfied. Their hush puppies are a favorite amongst locals and were so good. These fritters were very fresh and fluffy on the inside. The star of my plate was the stewed okra and tomatoes with yellow rice. The yellow rice was surprisingly cooked perfectly - no hard pieces at all. The stewed okra and tomatoes was seasoned so good and reminded me of my granny's cooking. Very Southern and comforting. Ok so for the bad - the green beans were bland....very bland and a bit oily. I had to pour out some of the juice and add some of the salt and pepper to even make it taste like anything. The very bad on the plate was the deviled crab. Throw it the whole recipe away. It was so mushy and not an ounce of crab in it at all. I even popped it in the airfryer to see if the filling would cook but nope. It was a disgusting inedible mess. If I want a deviled crab or have a craving for it - I'll take a trip to Tampa. Overall, there were some good and bad parts of my meal but the good did outshine the bad menu items during my experience.

I've heard a lot about this Gainesville favorite and finally made my way towards the NW side of town. From the recommendations I've received, this is the best seafood place in town. I must say, I can see why this is a local favorite. Once I walked it, I was greeted and shown to an available booth. Myself and another church friend chose to dine for lunch. Once we arrived it wasn't crowded, but then family groups came in. Our waiter was Ashley and she served us pretty well. I chose the Flounder lunch deal and she chose a shrimp platter and salad. Both entrees were cooked to perfection! We ordered corn nuggets for the appetizer and they were battered perfectly. I'd give this local delight a 10/10, I will visit again.

Most excellent fried seafood I've ever had... when in Gainesville Florida, it's THE place to go! Everything was cooked perfectly and was delicious. I will be back

I want this place to be good. I really do, but both times I've been I have been pretty disappointed. The last time I went, nearly half the tables weren't bussed and there was food and trash on the floor. That should have been a sign, but I powered forward anyway. The main problem for me was the lack of seasoning in the fried food. It was all sort of bland. They also gave me the wrong fish. I asked for flounder and got catfish. I did like the grits though. Now what I will say is that you get a good-sized portion of food. Also, I've found the staff to be so friendly, which to me helps the overall experience.

The parking lot can get a little hectic, especially during busy hours, but once I got inside everything moved quickly. The service was fast and I really appreciated that everything is fried fresh to order, you can taste the difference. I got the wings and shrimp combo and added hush puppies. The wing batter was amazing: not greasy, perfectly seasoned, and honestly better than Popeyes or even KFC. A lot of places give you more batter than chicken, but here the chicken was moist and a good portion. The hush puppies were also surprisingly moist and flavorful, some of the best I've had since they're usually dry elsewhere. My find and I split the order and since we eat small portion we think that was a good portion for us and also had leftovers. Everything was so good I didn't even need sauce, and I'm a sauce girl through and through. Overall, great experience and I'd definitely come back when I'm craving something fresh, crispy, and satisfying.

Gainesville Seafood, out on the Eastern end of town, is that place. It may not be the easiest spot to stumble upon, but that's part of its charm. This is the kind of hidden gem that loyal regulars keep quietly to themselves, the sort of place that feels like a reward for those willing to seek it out. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, the kind of no-frills setting that lets the food do all the talking. I went for a seafood platter, which was shrimp and fish with fries. They have a variety of different kinds of fish available that you can pick from, which is a nice touch. It gives the meal a sense of personalization that you don't always find at casual seafood spots. I went with the flounder, and it turned out to be an easy choice to feel good about. The platter was generously portioned, the kind of meal that leaves you satisfied without the need to contemplate dessert. All of it was excellent. The flounder was light and flaky on the inside, with a crisp golden crust that had clearly seen well-seasoned oil and confident hands in the kitchen. The shrimp were equally well-executed. They were plump, tender, and fried just right, without any of the rubbery disappointment that lesser seafood joints often deliver. Even the fries held their own, providing a solid, starchy counterpoint to all that seafood goodness. The wait wasn't at all bad either, which is worth mentioning because a place this good can often mean a crowd. Service was attentive without being overbearing, and the whole experience moved at a comfortable, easy pace. Whether you're a Gainesville local or just passing through, Gainesville Seafood is the kind of place worth going a little out of your way for, and once you've been, you'll understand why people keep coming back.

The wings were flavorful, well-seasoned, and hit the spot, and the fries were crispy and satisfying, simple but solid. That said, when my friends' seafood boils came out, wow. The smell alone was incredible rich, buttery, and seasoned perfectly. I couldn't resist trying a few bites, and I'm glad I did. The potatoes and broccoli were especially good, soaking up all that seasoning, and the seafood itself tasted fresh and well-cooked. You could tell this is really where they shine. The portions were generous, the food came out hot, and it's definitely a fun, casual spot to go with friends. The atmosphere feels laid-back and social, which makes it great for group dinners. While my non-seafood order was good, seeing (and tasting) the boils made me want to come back and try a full seafood meal next time. Overall, a solid spot with great flavor, especially if you're a seafood lover. I'd absolutely return and next time, I might just give in and get my own boil.
