The first time I had my knives there it took the guy about 5 minutes to "sharpen" 5 knives. They were so dull they wouldn't even cut through the plastic on a package of cheese. I called and took them back and this time they completely destroyed them. For example, there are big gouges perpendicular to the edge of one of them near the tang, the corner of my Global cleaver is rounded off, and the edge of my granton knife has had some of the divots cut off. I used to go to NW Cutlery when they were on Lake St and they took their time and did a great job! I guess I will have to travel a bit to make sure my knives aren't man handled. read more

My blades were sharpened but the experience was interesting... There is no storefront and I went into and thru a warehouse to a space where the grinding machine was located. Minimum payment associated with credit card use, so bring cash. Amiable folks who had a several large groups of knives being sharpened, so I was in the right place, but it's out of the way for me. read more

It is not a pretty store front where they sell fancy kitchen tools, it is a working facility where they fix kitchen machines and keep your blades sharp! They took my knives, brought me inside where I watched them work. It's quite an operation. They seem to have the business of some very good restaurants in the city. If they trust their knives, I knew I could too. It was reasonable, quick and they did a great job. I know who I will recommend from now on. read more

I'm so happy this place and type of operation is wit is. 25th and Western is near for most people. The service was just great, knifes were sharpen within 5mins. and I had five. To see them work was like watching a marching band. the knife have been in my family for over 30yrs, I gave them to my kid when she moved out. I just gave her a new set of Chicago Cutlery, but her told me she want the old set back. I worked on the wood handles( stained - glued etc) then took to Manon. They have never been as sharp as the job they did. can't thank you enough. The price was only $10 for all five what a deal. Thank you again. read more

I went once and that was enough for me to decide to never go back there again. They're careless about your knives. While I was waiting for my knives one of the workers was smoking inside. As he sharpened the knives he would THROW them on the table when he was done with them. I checked my knives when I got home and they had so much burr and the blade couldn't even cut through a tomato. They came out worse than what I took them in. Horrible service, do NOT recommend! read more

I stopped by Manau to get 7 knives sharpened. I rang the doorbell once as instructed and shortly a door open with a gentleman inviting me into the work shop. I was blown away by the number of knives that had been sharpened and were awaiting pickup or shipment back to the customer. My knives were unpacked and inspected. They told me that it would be a couple of minutes before they were sharpened. Nice hand-written sign stating the it was $2 per knife to sharpen. I also bought a pair of scissors that they sharpened. In the end I was in and out in less than 15 minutes and treated like I was there best customer. I am throwing out my home sharpener and going to Manau when I need my knives sharpened. read more

They are cheap and quick. You get what you pay for. They were sloppy and shaved off too much of my knives and left them mangled. Don't go there if you have knives read more

Went to Manau Cutlery today to have some kitchen knifes sharpened. When we got there we drove around the building trying to find the front door, the door where customers walk in but we couldn't find one that was obviously meant to be the main door. All the doors looked the same, gray and closed. I got off the car and tried to pull open the doors on two different sides of the building but they were locked and there was no way to look inside the building to get someone's attention. I knew it was open because I had called earlier that day. I decided to call again and the person who answered the phone told me to go to a door on Western Ave. and ring the bell. I did and someone opened the door immediately. He was very nice and walked me to the guy that was going to sharpen the knifes. He told me it would take 3 minutes and got right to work. There were many other workers (all in uniform) working on all kinds of machines. It looked like a busy place. I waited about 5 minutes and some other guy brought back my knifes and I paid $8 and was on my way. The knifes are super sharp!!!! And even though I couldn't find the door at first I give them 5 star for being fast, friendly and cheap. read more

Excellent service. Still $2 per knife. The main entrance is on Western Ave. You have to ring the doorbell and wait a few minutes for someone to answer it. One of the workers may pop their head out of the next door on the building to the south where the trucks pull into. The business is set up primarily for sharpening knives and other cutting edges for local businesses, especially restaurants. There are maybe 10 guys in the workshop working on blade sharpening using large grinding wheel machines and wetstones. When I went there today, there were probably several hundred or a few thousand knives in process or finished. Most commercial customers either drop off their work or have their blades picked up or delivered to Manau Cutlery. Walk-in retail customers, like most people here with say 10-20 blades to sharpen, immediately go to the head of the line and the next available worker sharpens their knives. I had about 8 knives and it took about 10 minutes or so. Again, it's a two-step process. The blade first goes on a wheel grinder and after that is finished by hand on a stationary wetstone. Very friendly, helpful and efficient staff - Highly Recommended. About a 12 minute walk from the Western Ave. stop on the Pink line. Several excellent tacquerias and Mexican restaurants on the way down Western Ave. read more
