We rented bikes from Ray's Rental spontaneously with our two dogs. The friendly staff at the shop was incredibly helpful, and the pricing was very reasonable for a half-day rental. We paid $18 per bike, which included the dog trailer and a lock for just three dollars. After some research, we discovered that it was a better deal than some of the other rental places in the area on Balboa Island. The bikes were well-maintained and in great condition. We highly recommend Ray's Rental if you're in the area. read more

Got 2 soft tops and 2 wetsuits and they were perfect for surfing! I paid around $70 total for 4 hours, which I think is a pretty reasonable price. The front desk people were two women and they were super nice and helpful. One of the wetsuits was a little too big, and they helped us find one that was snug. I definitely would come again for Newport rentals! read more

Rays rentals was so easy to rent from. We got a Surrey bike for the 4 of us for a good price to ride around Newport! It was the weekend of Labor Day and they still had a bunch to rent. The location is so convenient on the peninsula! Will definitely be back. read more

It would have been great if the business mentioned before or during the booking that they put $150/bike hold on your card... Ridiculous! There are way too many other rental shops around to put up with this nonsense. Just walk across the street... 2 stars only because the cashier girl was nice. read more

Rented bikes back in Sept. Had an issue and was extremely satisfied with Ray going above and beyond to correct said issue. Today my husband and I returned for a 2nd visit. It's difficult to understand a business that doesn't strive to be COVID compliant and ultimately so haphazard with cleanliness and safety at this time! First, the employee was not wearing a mask. When I arrived she was close to other customers. She said she didn't have to wear a mask. Ok, so just F all of the customers then. However, my BIGGEST GRIPE is that I literally wiped what is probably mucus (boogers!) off of the kid bike seat before we got onto the bike. I could visibly see it and then began to wipe. I just couldn't believe the filth of that bike seat... especially during these times! I am not the type of yelper to take pictures and post with my review, but honestly, I will never use them again and really caution all who are concerned with spreading disease to avoid them at all costs. Oh, but the prices were good. -_- I'd pay double to feel like mine and my child's well-being were at least worth consideration. read more

Dropped off bike to tighten a bottom bracket on a cruiser. Super simple repair. Left the bike overnight and picked it up next day. Paid, took the bike out... loose bottom bracket. Staff was super friendly but ultimately couldn't complete the job right because they didn't have the proper tools. I should have asked for a refund but didn't think of it until I got home. Avoid for bike repairs. read more

This was my first time renting bikes from this place and I would not recommend it to anyone. I noticed the bikes weren't very pleasant looking when we arrived but since we just wanted to get a bike ride in without having to find parking again at another place we just settled for this spot (big mistake). Also asked for beach cruisers and they charge extra for the basket to be on it. My boyfriend also mentioned that his brakes didn't work well throughout the ride. I don't think they clean the bikes or check them at all which is very inconsiderate and gross, my shorts got stained from the seat. read more

Long story short- I reserved two e-bikes ($60 total) on a Friday afternoon to be rented at 4pm and planned to ride for 3 hours.I live in the IE and due to traffic I had to cancel the reservation as I would have arrived too late for any ride worth the money. Per their policy I would eligible for a refund so I called to cancel and was told that the refund would need to be processed by a manager, and that my payment method would be refunded in a few days. Cool. Few days pass and not refund. So, I called the store explained my situation, the kid on the phone found my transaction and mentioned that no prior cancellation had been attempted but that he would inform a manager and that it would completed, another time, within a few days. We arrived to drop off are bikes at opening. . They could not find the i rial deposit info. We waited patiently for 20 plus minutes. We were suppose to drop by 7 pm we missed by 5 minutes last night. They charged us a $15 per bike overnight fee. $45 refused to waive and she was like a robot. Bad customer service. read more

A big personal thank you to Ray for carrying a beach cruiser small enough for my 4' 5" friend could fit on so she could ride Sunday. It's hard to find a place that has small cruisers or bikes for height challenged people. I could tell from the new-ish condition of the bike that it was not rented often. And another big personal thank you to Ray for only charging her $12.00 for the day. I thought this price was too low to be true--I was expecting that when she returned it, Ray would tell her, "Oh, it's only $12.00 if you don't get the tires dirty--now it's $30 because we have to clean the tires." And a final big personal thank you to Ray for staying open until 8pm! to return the bike so that we could enjoy the long day. Ray gave up his dinner with family to be there for us and we appreciate it! They did not have the free cold water when she Yelp checked in, so they only charged? her $1.00 instead of $3.00 for the use of a basket. (I would have just given her the basket.) We will be back if in the area to ride again. Note to Ray: Restock Yelp check-in water bottles. read more

We went to this shop cause we saw an ad on Craigslist for used beach cruisers. I called ahead of time and sure enough they were still in stock. Jon was super helpful in helping us decide which bikes we wanted to choose. He was kind enough to install hand brakes for my bike and even oiled up our bikes for us. Finding water sport activities on a Saturday (without reservations) has to be the most stressful feeling when wanting to plan a family fun day. Thank you to the staff at Rays Rentals as everywhere else along Newport Beach seemed to be sold out of jet skis and paddle boards. My family and I were able to nab 2 boards for an hour of fun at a very affordable price! ** p.s. they also sold water proof phone cases so we were able to even take photos on the water with no worries! read more

Rented 5 bikes this weekend and had a great ride along Newport. Check in was quick and they had baskets and a lock for us to use for our convenience. The girl working the front desk was courteous and made it very easy to get in and out. When I returned the bikes she had us leave them outside where she was sanitizing bikes before bringing them back in. read more

It's been a while since I've rented a bike here and I miss this place. Nice employees (Angel was excellent), good bikes, fair price. Just learned they also rent rollerblades. I'll be back. Great solo exercise, date day or girls' day, or family time. Tips: avoid renting a bike in summer with the tourists instead go off-season (lot parking is cheaper too, only $1.60 for 2 hours), riding pier-to-pier on the beach boardwalk is a fun ride. read more

Thank you Stephanie and Katie for the amazing service today. This was my first time renting bikes from Rays. I picked it after searching on Yelp for Newport Beach bike rentals. We rented 2 single bikes and 1 tandem bike and had a great time. We rode to the Balboa Pier and hit the beach for a little bit and then continued on for another mile or so. Prices online are different then in store, the girl that seemed to be a manager of some sort probably should not be in customer service, she was very dry and borderline rude. Like wasn't rude but rides the line. Very much trying to scoot us out as fast as possible. Seems kinda like how much money can we grab from you and then get out. read more

While rentals seen to get high ratings, watch out for RAY's RENTAL's fine print: ALL SALES FINAL! Two Days ago, our daughters gave our family a surprise dolphin boat tour, so we stopped in for a quick Purchase of a sunhat just before it left the dock. I was told the woven hat was crushable and packed well and bought it. The next day, after wearing it on the tour and putting it in my bag, I noticed that there was a small tear where the hat met the brim when I put it on! Crushable? Indeed not. The confounding thing is that the entire hat proceeded to separate from the brim each time I touched it! We had never seen anything so crazy, so today we prepared to make the trek back to Balboa Bay to exchange this hat. I called ahead but was told by the clerk that all sales are final, regardless of my hats self-destruct mode. In essence, they would not have anything to do with it. In fact, I was told I should contact the manufacturer to boot! Long and short, rent your equipment but be mindful that you will Get the short end of the stick if a problem arises with your purchase of gear. read more

My daughter and I rented a tandem bike. It was so much fun to cycle down the boardwalk together. Thankfully she did most of the pedaling. Renting a bicycle is a fabulous way to get out and enjoy the sunshine. Oh, the service was wonderful. read more

If you are looking to rent beach cruisers, this is the place to go! You can pre-book your bikes online weeks in advance. I recommend the weekly rental if you are staying for a week. $75 for the week, for 1 bike. Can't beat it. At the end of your rental, all you do is drop it off, give them your last name and you are ready to go! Super easy! read more

I walked up to them (there was young employee and an older employee having a conversation at the register) and let them know I was there to pick up an online order and the guy at the register looked up my order. As he was doing that, I informed him that I would need to exchange it for a large/extra large and he said sure. He went to grab my online order from the wall, came back and handed it to me and said have a good day and began busying himself with something else. I stood there for a few seconds and asked him if he could please let me know where these life jackets were located because I need to exchange it for a bigger size (second time letting him know this). He then said it was in the back corner and pointed to the back corner. Where it fell short for me is that I let him know I would need to exchange it and either it didn't clock for him to fulfill my request by going and getting the larger size and bringing it back to the register OR he straight up ignored my request and didn't want to go get it. I'm going to say he straight up ignored my request and didn't want to go get it. At that point, I would rather just pick my online order up from a Amazon locker type contraption, go to the back and get the correct sized life jacket, then exchange it and self-checkout myself. I'm against getting rid of humans for jobs, but if the in-person experience is worse than dealing with a computer screen, then I would rather deal with the computer screen. Also, I realize this is a store that highers young people, but it's a branding issue if you don't have pride in training your employees to go above and beyond. In this case, it would have been taking a few extra steps to go get the life jacket size I needed, bringing it back to the register and completing an exchange. Not a crazy ask in my opinion, and it's a standard customer service request and it was not busy at all during this time. It could've been better and for the reason of parking being a little more stressful than other locations and poor customer service, I'd suggest going to another Dick's Sporting Goods or Big 5.
