Was passing by and wanted to stop a little to explore Duncan Mills when I started craving fish & chips. At first was a little put off as the patio & bar area was a little chaotic & loud. But thankfully on a Saturday afternoon, their interior seating was empty and it was GORGEOUS with its antique decor. The calamari & fish & chips were a good size and were nicely fried & crispy. I was thankful the waitresses provided lots of lemon slices and different sauces (tartar, cocktail, malt vinegar, teriyaki, mustard, and ketchup). Loved the atmosphere & the live band from next door. Loved the Mac & cheese, added both bacon & jalapeño. This was the best Mac & cheese I ever had! Now, here's where we come into trouble. The coleslaw was all purple cabbage, & a bland dressing. It was horrible.. . Here's my recipe, in case they want to upgrade: Shredded green cabbage, shredded purple cabbage, shredded carrots, chopped green onions, NAKANO® seasoned Natural Rice Vinegar , & mayo. Put all the ingredients in a big bowl, put about 1 tablespoon of the vinegar, 1 cup or more of Mayo, and 1 tablespoon or less ( I just eye it) of sugar & mix thoroughly , ADD 1 to 2 teaspoons of onion powder. Taste & adjust as you go along. Let sit in fridge overnight or at least 6 hours. Ok, I wasn't crazy about the fish & chips. I'm used to them in a light, beer batter . This was more like a crumb batter. I will say the tartar sauce was delicious & onion rings were right on point. My hubby loved the chicken wings, but thought there should be more. We did not like the desert, cheese cake. Very bland & dry. I don't think it was made in house though. Great atmosphere ! If they changed that Cole slaw , the fish to a crispy light beer batter , I think this place would do much better. Expensive? Yes, but anyplace you go now is. Had lunch with a friend here one afternoon while in the area, we sat outside on the open patio area. Its a large area, with clear wind partitions, several picnic tables and umbrellas if needed. Walk up counter service the afternoon we were there, with a nice menu of small plates and snacks. The service was friendly and kind. We ordered a couple drinks and took the menu to our table and gave it a read through while enjoying the sun and views. Decided on a couple plates and ordered back at the bar and got our number. The plates were brought to our spot within 15 minutes maybe less. Food was prepared fresh and quite tasty. The Calamari was well prepared golden brown, sweet and delicious with a nice crunch and texture, three dipping sauces on the side. A solid choice. The Ahi Tuna also nicely done, beautiful sear with sesame seeds, fresh ginger with wasabi and a soy dipping sauce. The tuna cooked near perfect the sides fresh and another solid choice, for our liking. Off the beaten path, with its own groove right by the post office. We spent Super Bowl Sunday at Blue Heron and had a fantastic meal. The sesame-crusted ahi tuna salad and shrimp scampi were both fresh, flavorful, and clearly well prepared. What really impressed me though was the service. I accidentally left my bag and water bottle behind, and Tom took the time to ship everything back to my home. Service is slow and seating is uncomfortable in the dining room. Loud music is blasting through the dining room from the adjoining rowdy Bar & Honky Tonk with no apparent thought of its effect on the dining customers. read more

Stopped here because grandparents love this place! Tried out the BLT and it exceeded expectations. Turns out they do not cook food all the time, but the blt and salad was great! Also, had a chance to try the fries and the fries were amazing. Perfect place to go if you have dogs because they have an outdoor patio. Service was amazing. Younger lady who was waiting/serving everyone made sure we had everything and even brought things to us that we didn't ask for like a lid for my ranch. This place always had the bar open and was very old school style inside. Everyone here was very nice. Will definitely be back if in the area. To put it simply, brown folks or maybe even lbgt folks: don't come here. Vibes are OFF, everyone stares at you and servers are not the friendliest or the most attentive. Food is not great either. Ordered their wings and they were Little Caesar's quality. Food was under salted and greasy and there is no warning that the salad might come with peanuts. My father has been telling me about The Blue Heron for years. Every time we have come to Bodega Bay, he would tell me stories about coming with his family. I was so excited to finally try it! When we first arrived, they were absolutely packed! We didn't realize there was a rodeo that had just taken place. Parking was a bit rough, but we were able to find something relatively close. Outside was full, but the inside was practically empty, which was fine for us. The host/server who greeted us was incredibly rushed and rude. She immediately began spouting off the insane amount of items they were out of in a very irritated manner. I understand that having to repeat yourself becomes exhausting, but perhaps write it down on a white board and place it out front like most restaurants do. They also did not offer any discount off upgraded sides. Either way, we chose to sit down for a meal. The restaurant is definitely older, but very charming in decor and kept clean. Seating is comfortable. Tables are fun because you can draw/color on the paper used as a tablecloth. Our server was a bit short and very rushed. It took a while for her to calm down and relax and become a bit more fun after my dad started conversation with her. For food, I opted for a blue cheese burger and a side of clam chowder as they were out of french fries. This was absolutely fabulous and bursting with flavor - would absolutely order again. We ordered my daughter a kid's burger with cheese (ridiculous that it doesn't come with cheese being a kid's burger and is charged an extra $1.50 making it a roughly $12 burger with a few pieces of lettuce on the side as a "salad"). Overall, the rest of the members of our group said their meals were delicious. Would love to come back again on a less busy night to be able to try more things and hopefully have a bit more enjoyable service though. read more

Went to Ducan Mills the other day craving a hamburger and fries, that was at Cape Fear. Their fries were the worse. The General Store told me about the Blue Heron Resturant and Bar across the street. Went there but they were not serving dinner on monday and tues. I found the ambience relaxing and down to earth with humorus sayings. Its an old tavern like place with a bar. Curious, I went all the way back there today just to try their burger and fries. Wow, what a home run. Their burger had to be a good half to a 3rd of pound. Thick and juicy. I asked for it to be well done and it was. I had added bacon and told them i want my bacon extra crispy and it was perfect. I asked for a slice of raw red onion, pickles, tomato, lettce and a side of thousand island with katchup and mustard. It came with fries. The fries were outstanding. The taste was really good and went well with the burger. I wish they added just a few more fries though, but It was a good portion over all. They offer different kinds of burgers, I just wanted an old fashion bacon cheese burger and fries. I give this place 4.8 stars. Ps. I drove 25 miles just to go there. It was worth it. This is a real gem. I expected basic bar food and got something much higher quality. I had beer battered cod and garlic fries and they were truly delicious and thoughtfully prepared. the garlic was fresh and beautifully grated and the cod was juicy and fresh with a perfect crust. Yeah, ok.....pretty good. The vibe was definitely very local and the outside seating was plentiful. I will say that my review is probably just tainted a little but with the slowness of service (probably understaffed at the moment) and the inefficiencies. Often times, I literally had to go up to the server a few times as they either ignored me or didn't hear me as they passed by our table a few times. I would say that 80% of the food was just pretty standard bar food. The drinks were pretty standard too. However, I would say they do have a star to the show, and that's their salmon fish and chips. Although, I wouldn't really order anything else here, I would absolutely come back for the salmon fish and chips. Who knew that fried and battered salmon would be so delicious! read more

My food was actually delicious, but I still have to give it a low score and wish that wasn't the case. They seemed to be a little understaffed, which happens occasionally, of course. Most importantly, however, there was a cat allowed to roam freely in the dining room. We saw it climb over the chairs and it even rubbed up against us. Obviously, that's a huge issue for sanitary reasons, but I am allergic to cats, and yet there were no signs warning us of this issue so we didn't have the opportunity to choose another restaurant when this cat sauntered up to us. The staff were very kind, I would even say too much so since there was a very annoying child running between the restaurant and bar areas nearly constantly. One staff member put her foot down with him a little, but another practically encouraged the behavior. read more

We waited patiently while watching her flirt with the cute guy & take his order immediately even though he arrived behind us. She made every effort to avoid eye contact, jumping on every other customer's request besides ours. Evidently she Only speaks to folks from Duncan's Mills, not us from just a few miles away. Anyway, she is a disgraceful face for your restaurant. FYI I very rarely leave reviews & try to never leave bad ones. Her actions simply cannot be ignored. This is ummm ... fine for what it is. Meaning there's not much here in the town and immediate vicinity that's other than deep fried food. Given that, if you're willing to adjust expectations and go with the flow and eat for fuel rather than taste or quality of preparation, you'll be okay. We clearly did note of what I just described, though it wasn't for lack of trying. We left hungry because I ate all the salad but the ahi nor the seaweed nor the pickled ginger ... none of it was up to what I could eat. I hate sounding like such a snob about the ahi salad, but with ahi that's seared, it need to be sparkling fresh. My husband got their fish and chips, which was okay, but he barely ate it. We left hungry. And got a sandwich from the deli across the street. The customer service was didn't to earth and people were terrific, the place Spartan and clean. The prices reasonable. read more

Stopped in around 6 on Sunday with friends for dinner. Bar was full and restaurant filled up pretty quickly. Only one bar tender who also had to take care of the whole dinning room. I was pretty disappointed in the hour long wait for food. But I also give the lady a ton of credit for working her butt off to make sure all the customers got what they needed. Even though the food took forever everything came out hot and delicious. We ordered both cod and salmon fish and chips. Both were excellent. The salmon was deep fried which I have never seen before. Crab cakes were decent. Mac and cheese is great here with bacon added. Fettuccine Alfredo was the worst dish we had. Tasted extremely bland and overall a bad dish. Looking on Yelp, I didn't have high hopes for Blue Heron. Boy did they prove me wrong. I actually enjoyed their food much better than Cape Fear. Cape Fear has by far more superior chowder than Blue Heron. However Blue Heron has much better fries. Their Mac n Cheese is outta this planet and its LEGIT! Add bacon and jalapenos to it. You wont regret it. The fish and chips are generous with 3 LARGE peices of cod. I wanted to try the shrimp tacos but they were all out of tortillas. The drinks - nice and stiff. Boy do they pour a hard drink. They also have Hen House for beer. Gotta love all of the local craft beer. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating if you dont want to sit in the bar. This is establishment is pet friendly (outside) as well as family friendly and high chairs are available for kids. I will definitely be back for the mac n cheese. Terrible food, but we had low expectations going into the place. Ahi Salad: 0/5 DO NOT order the ahi salad. The tuna was fishy and not fresh at all. 2 bites in and we both knew that bad things were coming our way if we ate any more of it. Southwest Chicken Sandwich: 2.5/5 This was surprisingly decent. Chicken was cooked well and the sauce had a subtle spice that was enjoyable . Other than that, the tater tots were a greasy mess and the veggies were not appetizing... at least this meal was (slightly) more edible. Beyond that, the ordering process was a mess and we waited nearly 20 mins by the bar just to place the order and another 45 to get the salad to-go and sandwich to-go. They did have ample outdoor seating but it seemed that nobody was being tended to, which was understandable considering the 2 bar ladies were also acting as servers and bussers. If you're looking for a place to grab a brew, and hang out at a anti social-distancing biker bar while on the Sonoma coast, this may be your scene. If you're looking for a place to get a decent meal, look elsewhere. We went to the coast for a hike and the bartender at the tasting by the sea in jenner recommended this little spot for a quick bite to eat on the way home from the coast. Duncan mills is such a beautiful little camping spot right near the river. This little gem was totally perfection! The server was so wonderful and although they were only a few of them and it was packed the server and owner made sure everyone had their food and drinks right away. They work so hard and it shows! We had spiked hot chocolates which were a little sweet for me but you can also play with different options to make it less sweet. I decided to get the southwest chicken and my brother ordered the tavern burger. Both were phenomenal. We also ordered calamari as an appetizer! The calamari was sooooo good!!!
