I went to my room and found it to smell strongly of cleaning chemicals. It was a dark space with orange and brown walls overlooking the Perkins and Aldi. I did not feel safe there. I went back downstairs and told the young man that I could not stay there and that the room smelled of chemicals. While there were other folks in the lobby I did not want to embarrass him or those waiting. He said he was going to charge me for the one night and I said something came up and I had to leave. I found a love,y room at a Marriott in Duluth. A few days later I filled out a form online regarding my stay and received a succinct answer from Gloria the manager stating that she would not refund my money. I explained the situation to her and how I felt with multiple emails back from her. In one email she inferred that I was not telling the truth. After working in hospitality for over 20 years I understand the importance of customer contact. At that point I escalated my concern to the Executive offices of Wyndham and had a pleasant interaction with them. This motel is not up to Wyndham standards. Although the young man at the desk was as pleasant as can be the manager is not and frankly should take a lesson from him in customer relations. She escalated my email to some general manager email address of which there has been no response. I give this place one star for Jared the young staff member. I would not recommend this establishment for much else.

She has an artist's eye, because the suite was beautifully decorated as well as impeccably clean. She let us into the suite after a just a quick card tap and no paperwork to fill out. A note inside the suite asked us to simply leave the key in the place as we left. So easy. The suite includes one queen bed and a sleeper sofa, plus a kitchenette with two kinds of coffee makers and some coffee grounds available, plus all needed dishes. Even scissors to help open packages. Eileen thought of everything. My relative loved the extra shelf in the bathroom to set down her shower things, so unlike other hotels. The parking area was spacious. And even though there were residents in the other suite, we never heard them talking or any electronic device in the background, so the walls are thick. In addition, the Stardust is near to several restaurants, even within walking distance. Will definitely stay there again if we come to Floodwood.

This Inn sparkles with cleanliness! I notice details like baseboards, corners and shelves. Each railcar is decorated in a different theme. We stayed in the newly appointed Lighthouse Room. The lamps were shaped like lighthouses, the room was tastefully decorated with Lighthouse pictures and memorabilia, and the hallway that connects each railcar was built reminiscent of a rail yard and train station. When I called to make the reservation. I actually spoke with one of the owners. Cindy. She was personable and friendly. She is the epitome of a fantastic bed& breakfast-type Innkeeper. We met her at the Inn and she was funny and very welcoming. The food was good. They had your typical fare offered at most hotels. The only reason they didn't get a 5 star rating from me is I feel like they could develop a "trademark item" with their breakfast to go with the theme as well. The location is perfect for a quiet weekend or even a Northshore vacation. It's nestled in the wilderness and just a very short ride to Lake Superior. I highly recommend this Inn if you would like to relive some locomotive history!
