The room was clean, comfortable and updated with a view out the back. We stayed in the connected rooms so it was like a motel but they also had separate cottages behind that to stay in. The family that runs it must live near one end where you can see piles of stuff all over. I admit that looked really bad so i was afraid of what the room would be like and my wife and I enjoyed our stay there. We would book another room there, no problem. It was also affordable. There are no restaurants or other things around (with the exception of a small general store and bar) so eat before you come and bring something to entertain you. It worked as a last minute change of plans meant our hotel in Duluth couldn't hold our room for us and the entire city was fully booked over the weekend. We spent a day in Duluth and just needed a place to sleep before heading back to the twin cities. We booked a room through Airbnb. Julie is a sweet lady and a gracious host! She made us a delicious omelet and coffee cake for breakfast in the morning and we had a nice time getting to know her and how she started the B&B. The living space was cozy, homey, and our room was clean with a rustic/ vintage farmhouse feel. There's a nice sitting area on the front porch. This was a lovely spot to be surrounded by quiet and just relax after a busy day of driving and activities.

I always knew that this Hampton Inn was in Wisconsin, and chose it because it was the cheapest deal I could find at the time. And no, I'm not sure why Duluth hotel properties are so relatively expensive. We found the Hotel relatively easy to find, although the adjacent building/road construction made the directions (and turns) a little more challenging. Getting back into Duluth Minnesota (for Dinner later) was fairly easy and port/lake scenic. If there's a next time, I'll continue up the North Shore and make my stop more that a one night visit. The Hampton property reflects the modern refurbishments within the chain, which I found clean, comfortable and welcoming. Upon check-in, the most important tasks were: 1. Shower (!) 2. Change into Clean Clothes (Yes, the ride down from Ely was a little "ripe") 3. Separate and Pack Up the "Canoe Clothes" 4. Make Dinner Reservations (Grandma's) 5. Chat with Gayle again (the first call upon return from the Lake) I also got a good night sleep, enjoyed the free hot breakfast (and friendly staff) in the morning, and hung out with Bob/Bird and Jeff before we all went our separate ways.

The next morning, I was there on time and was greeted by the young woman who recognized my name. "We talked last night. You are our guest today. No charge." Stephanie said. I was dumbfounded and realized that she saw within me something I didn't realize I had revealed--that I needed to be pampered, that I was vulnerable, that I was tired, that I was worried, that I hurt. I had never alluded to any of that over the phone, but she knew. The staff regularly checked on me, the owner especially making certain I was fine, and I was. The brunch was amazing, filled with luscious entrees, a far cry from the normal Northwoods pizza-hamburger venues. I was also able to enjoy watching the young parents with their children, lining up for their eggs and shrimp and everything delightful. I am home now and soon I will be watching a movie--probably a western--that my husband would have liked. I will remember him telling me all about the lives of the actors, how this movie compared to another, how the plots developed. I will remember my folks and wish they were again enjoying the rustic comforts of the cabin. I will remember my caring son and daughter who will call later to see what mischief I have been into. And I will remember the "strangers" who crossed my path today to help point me forward into a journey of hope.

This was for cottage 3. They are spread apart pretty good three and four as well as one and two kind of share a fire pit areas not really share but they're close together where you where you would hang out but otherwise they're nicely spaced. the row boats and the dock are right by cabin 1 which I would say is probably the best location of the four especially the nicest view then I think cabin 2 has the next best view.

I went to complain to Karri and she was shaking and getting so upset saying she personally cleaned it. Was very defensive and rude. I took a lot of pictures. I talked to the manager about it who told me and my family not to come back because we complained about the filthy room. We have asthma in my family and being around mold is dangerous. Then they leave an envelope in the room encouraging to leave the cleaners a tip now. DO NOT GO HERE! Best western might cost more money but at least it's clean.
