I have been going to Norvell Bass Cleaners for more than 20 years. I have literally spent ~$1000+ a year with them for 20+ years. Today I am done. They overcharged me $15 and would not budge. No customer service, no courtesy for a misunderstanding, no nothing. They just overcharged me and didn't care. And if you read the reviews, I'm not the only one they have done that to. Here's what happened to me - They quoted me $10 to launder 2 shirts. But when I went to pick them up. The cost was $25 because they are "special" shirts. Apparently, women's cotton shirts are "special". I don't think I even paid $25 for the shirts! I insisted that I asked the day before about the price, "$5.25 since they would be laundered". But the cashier was firm. I had to fork over $25. I think what upset me the most is that I know I over pay there but it felt WAY worse to be ripped off to my face! Where is the courtesy for a long time, loyal customer? Not here! I'll be taking my dry cleaning business to Ablitt's from now on. read more

I always take my clothes to Norvell-Bass even though I've moved far away from the location. The people are very nice and they take good care of my precious clothes. My clothes are always ready to be picked up when they say they will be, and always cleaned beautifully. I also love the Tailor there, he has hemmed many pairs of jeans for me and he does a great job. The only downside to NBC is that it is pretty expensive. But it's worth it for me - I've heard enough horror stories about dry cleaning! read more

Took an article in for cleaning. The result was mold started to grow on the item in a week. They initially told me $180 and by the end it was $220. I will NEVER use them again now will I recommend anyone else go there. I've called a few times and left messages...no return call. read more

Proud to say I have years of experience working with customers! But definitely have to say that working in the field has tough me that the customers are not always right. Leaving in Santa Barbara for 20+ years I have learned that prices are high in this beautiful city. People before you move or look into moving to Santa Barbara do your research, their is many ways to find out about prices for dry cleaning your clothes before dropping them off, take your time to find out what cleaners charge, I see so many reviews of new customers coming out of town complaining about the high prices here, if you take the time to write a bad review write it about your selfs before posting reviews and not taking your time to research. The last two people who review this cleaners came at the same time are lying, his shorts are totally wearable!! He even said that he had more with the same problem and that he was going to return them to Lululemon's store. Maybe try a bigger size next time, now I understand why Lululemon did not wanted to help you with your shorts, you're the problem not the cleaners or the shorts! read more

I agree with the majority of the reviews in that the service is lacking, prices are high, and the quality of cleaning is poor. I have taken several different types of clothing or bedding here, because this is where my work chose to go. Each time there was some issue. For example, holes in cashmere or blankets that weren't properly cleaned. We now go elsewhere. read more

Thank you to Angie for her wonderful review of Norvell Bass. Without her review, I wouldn't have found this dry-cleaner & tailor!! I've taken my clothes here once, and that is enough to seal me in as a continuing customer. I had some pants cleaned (which costs around $7 per pair), and also had an ugly skirt transformed into a pretty little thing! Haha. The tailor look my brown, knee-length, boxy skirt (from the sale rack at Banana Republic) and turned it into an attractive little pencil skirt. To hem it and take in the sides, it cost $35. I was surprised at the high cost...but he did a very good job. Right now I am going to take a couple other pants in to get hemmed and cleaned. I trust this cleaner will do a good job with my clothes, and that the tailor will also fix my clothes to my liking. YAY! EDIT: I had to drop this review to 2 stars. Why? Because the tailor did a crappy job on the clothes I most recently dropped off. I had him hem my new jeans-- and they look terrible. My boss was flabbergasted that I had actually paid someone to do the job. It looks like the tailor merely took the old stitching out, folded the jean pants up 1.5", then sewed them shut at that height (1.5" inches up.) Who does that, and calls them self a professional? I am so disappointed, because he used to do good work. I know he's been busy the last 2 weeks, which may contribute to why he did a crappy job on these pants. I need to go home and evaluate the other items he worked on. I'm not impressed and will not return to him. read more

Yikes on the pricing! I'm new to the area and live close to this business so I thought I'd try it out. I brought in 5 pieces to be dry cleaned. The woman looked at a regular dress shirt I brought in and told me it would be $3.50 to launder. She then asked me if it was a woman's shirt and said it would be $11. (This is the reason why women usually pay more than men.) I also brought in a dress with a small leather trim and she quoted $40 to dry clean! I will research some other dry cleaners. Eek! read more

Norvell Bass Dry Cleaners stained my favorite skirt, and then after offering to "fix" it through tailoring the stain into a new seam, their tailor butchered it to pieces. When I gave them the skirt, they neglected to tell me that metallic threads don't do well in dry cleaners' hands. When I picked it up, there was a dark splotch on the ivory fabric. The manager offered to have their tailor open a seam, tuck the stain inside, and sew it back up for free. BIG MISTAKE. The tailor cut through several bias strips, as if he were butchering an animal, and destroyed the skirt beyond repair. I was very unhappy when I picked the skirt up, and the manager still expected me to pay for the original cleaning! I insisted on having my skirt back, even though it now looks ridiculous, and refused to pay at all. I attempted to report NB to the Better Business Bureau, but the BBB doesn't include dry cleaners. I also contacted the state-level dry cleaners' consumer group, but never got a response. I will never walk into Norvell Bass again, and would warn anyone: DO NOT ASK THEM TO DO TAILORING! read more

Amazing service! I had a wedding and had a last minute emergency where my zipper broke on my dress a couple hours before the wedding and they were more than willing to squeeze me in to help. Awful!! I took a pair of shorts to the tailor to fix a flared pocket. When I went to pick up the shorts, they had made the problem MUCH worse, rendering the shorts unwearable. The entire staff agreed that the shorts had not been fixed at all. However, they still charged me! So now I am out $15 plus a pair of shorts I can no longer wear! DO NOT GO HERE!!!! read more

I have been looking for an excellent dry cleaners since moving to Santa Barbara and I finally found one in Norvell Bass on upper State St. Dry cleaners are not perfect and there are always instances where a customer is dissatisfied, but so far I have not found any reason to not return. My clothes are professionally pressed and cleaned and presented. I read the review by the woman who never got her Burberry scarf returned to her at the Norvell Bass In Montecito. They should have reimbursed her fully for that scarf because they do have insurance to cover a customer's loss. Her experience does not make me feel good about this company even though I will return. Maybe I will take a quick camera shot with my smart phone when I drop off my clothes. It's too bad that a business's integrity is compromised over doing the right thing and that customers have to find ways to protect themselves from the lack of. I had two terrible experiences with Abblitt's and I'm surprised they are still in business. All my friends have horror stories too. The worst part is that the owners did not want to meet with me to hear anything negative; guess what folks? That's how to make improvements is to listen to your customer. The fancy uniforms and blah, blah, blah don't make a good business. Thanks, Norvell Bass for your excellent dry cleaning and I hope you reconsider giving the woman her $300 for the lost scarf. I would like to add that I ALWAYS ask what my clothes will cost to have them cleaned and will bargain with the staff if I think it's too high. What I have found in my experience is that dry cleaners are not a highly regulated business, like charging more for women's clothes (totally against the law, but getting away with it) charging arbitrarily, etc. And I always ask how a piece of clothing will do if there's something unusual about the fabric. That way, the staff will ask the owner or manager who knows what the risk will be. Let the customer beware. read more

I'm all for getting what you pay for but my God - The pricing here is ridiculous. One suit and one sport coat = $ 53.00. That, and the gal working behind the counter was borderline rude. Just took Armani pants in to have them hemmed and they sewed them as if they were blue jeans! The stitching showed! Don' t they know how to properly alter dress slacks? Had them do it correctly and they were then 2 inches too long. I spoke with the manager and he insisted that the way they hammed them the first time was correct per the manufacturers specifications. I took the pants back and am having them altered at Nordstrom's. When they heard the story they couldn't believe he lied like that! Armani would never suggest hemming pants like that! read more

We just moved to Santa Barbara and didn't know any better when we took our garments for dry cleaning to Norvell. One dress came back with stains. They made us feel like they did us a favor giving us a do-over. The stains are mostly gone but they are still visible when you look closely. They destroyed the dress and don't own their mistake. We will never go back and I suggest you stay away from them, too. There are cheaper, better, and friendlier dry cleaners in Santa Barbara. read more

I brought an inexpensive maxi dress in for cleaning because I thought it would be too much trouble to hand wash and iron with my busy work schedule. I went to pick it up and they wanted to charge me $53 because they called it a "gown"! A gown!! I might have literally gasped. Just because it is long I guess they thought they could gouge me. Like it's a wedding dress or something. If this isn't ridiculous pricing I don't know what. I refused to pay at the time of service, refused to sign the credit card authorization, did not take the garment (because I can buy a brand new one for less), and they STILL ran this charge through my credit card. I was a customer here for 8 years, though not often. They were not perfect, but they were always polite and when something wasn't ideal, I just let it go. I'm not letting this go. I couldn't believe the poor reviews here. Norvell has been doing my dry cleaning and tailoring for years. We have so much that they actually pick up and deliver at my house twice a week (free of charge!). I've had a lot of things tailored and Pedro does a fabulous job and things are always ready on time or early. He has done jeans, designer clothes, and even flower girl dresses for my daughter. Visited once, will NEVER return. I dropped off a duvet cover and 6 shirts/dresses. Only 2 items needed to actually be dry cleaned... the rest could have been hand washed or laundered. the prices & estimate they gave me when I dropped the items off seemed a bit high to begin with ($50+ for duvet cover, $9 ea for other items). I expected to pay a little over $100 total. When I came to pick them up I was presented with a bill of over $160 -- surprise! Not impressed at all -- I was even told by an employee that they receive complaints of this nature all the time and management doesn't seem to care. I will never return, will never recommend this place to anyone. Abysmal customer service and management, even worse prices. read more

I dropped off a friend's coat to be cleaned and was quoted $45 cost and was told that it would be ready in a week. I again battled the horrific Loreto Plaza parking lot to pick it up I was told it wasn't ready and that it would be an additional 10 days from when it was originally promised. I reset my friend's expectations and went back for a third time and almost choked when the woman rang me up for $95. For one coat. I expressed my disappointment and she got her manager who reluctantly gave me 20% off. I feel it's bad business to not set realistic expectations for your customers, and in this case, twice. I won't be going back there, especially when there are so many other cleaners in town, many of which take the SB Axxess card. read more

Here is my story. I brought in a Mattress cover from my bed in October 2014. I have two single Mattresses. The bed is from Europe so the measurements are different then here. It is a quit expensive cover made with silk and wool. I told them that it can not shrink otherwise I would not match anymore. They charged me $140.00 I had to pay $40 in advance. The Manager told me he has to send it to L.A. to a special place. After two weeks, I went to the store and ask for my cover. They told me it is not done jet. 2 weeks later I called in and ask again. Then they told me I should come in they have to talk to me. Not to forget to mention it was November by then and I could not use my second Mattress. They then told me that the company in L.A made a mistake and the cover shrank. I told them that I mentioned to them that this can not happen because I am not able to get this item here in U.S. Well, the wife of the Manager wanted to come to my house and see how much it shrank. It was a big part and it was impossible to put it on. Then they started to argue with me when I told them that they have to replaced. She wanted to give me some money which would never cover for a new one. I overt them to contact the company in Switzerland, that's where the Mattress coms from. With e mail, finally I got a offer and I presented to the Store Manager. The amount with shipping was $1300. By then we had the month of December, still could not use the second Mattress. He told me to wait after the holidays. O.K. I said, but he had to replaced because they destroyed my cover. Nobody contacted me so I went back to the store. He then told me, he can not pay me the full amount because the cover was not new anymore. I could not believe what I heard. He told me I have to pay for the cleaning of the cover which was destroyed. So , they screwed up, I had all the hassle and then he made me pay $140 out of my packet. I told him it is not my fault that I have to get a new one there is no question that he has to replace what he damaged ! There was nothing I could do. Then I ask him for my old cover and his answer was, he wants to keep it even dough I payed for the cleaning. Then he told me that the cover is back in L.A. and he had to ask back for it. Two days ago, he told me that the company in L.A. trow it away what I did not believe. Now , I payed for my cover which is ruined and have to pay out of my pocket to get a new one. Now we have January and I have no new cover nor the amount which I have to pay for a new one. He told me I could go to the small claim court he does not care. I have never experienced such a terrible customer service where they destroy your item and then they ask you to pay for what they destroyed. There is no way I go back to this place. read more

Very shady. Similar to Ch H.'s experience, on three occasions I've brought them shirts to be laundered and they randomly chose to dry clean at least one. The clerk stated that the shirt must have said "dry clean only." After proving him wrong, he claimed that slim fit shirts have to be dry cleaned, which doesn't make sense because other slim fit shirts were laundered. They did not refund the difference. Also, I brought a dress to be hemmed there and picked it up with the left side being much longer than the right. I brought it back to be fixed, and when I picked it up, the same mistake was made! If I can rate this place any lower I would... I've been a loyal customer to this dry cleaners for years taking some of my finest shirts to get cleaned here. From time to time I encountered issues with my shirts.. at one point one button was missing from a new Ted Baker shirt that I had recently purchased. I ended up switching dry cleaners and started going to one downtown the only hassle was that it was further away from my house... living in San Roque it's quite nice just having to drive a block from you home and dropping your shirts off. So I decided to give this dry cleaners another shot and it failed... it failed in the customer service area. I dropped 3 shirts on Monday and asked for them to be ready by the next day... the lady that was working there on 5/5/17 around 8 AM was completely rude and sighed.. she made me feel uncomfortable like if I was causing an issue. So I left my shirts there and came back today ( Wednesday ) to pick them up. I was in a great mood just coming out the gym and I greeted the cashier nicely and she was a complete b*t*h to me. I hate using that word but man.. if I'm going to spend 20$ on 3 shirts I'll take them else where. I know the owners and they know me but I've just had about enough of this BS. Taking my business else where so I don't have to cause a problem to your dry cleaners anymore. If anyone looks at these reviews make sure to go else where. At least there they will make you feel welcomed.
