First off, let me just start by saying we went up to Pittsburgh to have a nice relaxing weekend. We…read morestayed in the Evergreen cabin, which we have stayed several times in the past and had a great experience. The Friday night that we arrived there a bad storm came through and wiped the power out which we lost heat and of course, the electricity around 11 PM to roughly 5:30 am which made for a very cold night with no extra blankets. A giant tree fell on top of our cabin, I have to say it was very frightening, and my husband, nor myself got any sleep that night, not knowing if we were safe in that cabin. In the morning I proceeded to call the front desk and make them aware of the tree that had fallen and asked if they could send someone over to check out the structure of the cabin. I also stated that I felt we should receive some compensation because we basically lost a night due to the fear of what had happened to the cabin not to mention it was freezing cold.. They did state they would give me $100 back which I think was not acceptable considering we paid 300 a night. I waited approximately two hours and a young man came looked up at the cabin and basically told us he knew nothing about structure and trees, but he would try to find someone to look at it. Two hours later someone from a tree service pulled up in the road about 100 yards away from the cabin parked for about 20 seconds and drove away. We never heard from front desk again to let us know if the structure was safe and they left the tree on the cabin all day and the following night. Needless to say, it was not relaxing in any way shape or form and they obviously didn't care how we felt about the situation. I will say they did offer us to move to a cabin across the way but at that point if I had to pack everything up and move, I was going home. We specifically picked Evergreen because it's the cabin we had been staying in for years. They are just lucky that we were not injured because things could have been way worse for Tall Timbers. Let me add there was an eight foot overhang on the metal roof that could have let go at any moment... had to be cautious to stay away from the edge of the building!!!

We had one amazing ski day at this mountain. On the heels of the early Spring Nor'Easter of 2019,…read morewe came over here on a long weekend in the Eastern Townships. We weren't disappointed. Owl's Head has undergone recent improvements and there are many more planned under the new ownership of Sommet Memphremagog, a consortium of investors who purchased the property from the venerable Korman family, who founded the resort in the early '60s. Upon arrival at Owl's Head, the small drop-off area is immediately net to the brand new lodge which is steps away from the main high-speed quad. The lodge is wide, spacious, with plenty of room downstairs to change and store equipment in either large cubicles or lockers. The smallish ski shop is also downstairs but despite its size, it has great sales and a wide assortment of ski equipment and accessories. Upstairs, on the main floor, the large sitting area has plenty of pegs for hanging packs and other stuff. And there is a mid-size cafeteria with a large food offering. The guest service area is also on the main floor. The lodge is next to a seemingly very nice aparthotel on the premises. Outside the lodge, a large terrace with Adirondack chairs face the Southward sun and the place takes a sort of festive atmosphere. Having donned our equipment, the main Sommet quad whisked us to the top of the mountain, which only serves blue and black terrain from the top. Owl's Head shape has a small plateau and then the slopes descend steeply onto a shallower descent. It needs to be said that the slopes' ratings are quite appropriate to their difficulty. Not much of "slope rating inflation" at this mountain. Their black diamonds are steep, often narrow, and windy. Their double blacks are likewise, extremely steep and rigorous. Along the main runs at the top, there are numerous glades - let's put it this way, there are glades almost everywhere on the mountain. The views from the top are simply dramatic. The expanse of the St. Lawrence Valley spotted with single monadnock mountains rising out of the plain, which surround the spectacularly beautiful Lake Memphremagog, is an unforgettable sight. And the views continue throughout the descent, each angle providing more and more beautiful views. Crisscrossing the mountain, very close to the shores of the lake, the Du Lac quad sends the skier or rider to numerous beautiful blue and green runs, several medium difficulty and easy glades, and one outstanding black diamond, all in view of the new housing construction going on in the lower half of the resort. Two other lifts are worth mentioning; the Bleu drops onto some beautiful blue terrain, which in this case was used for a race course, and the Pettit Quad allowed access to the DuLac terrain from the main lodge. We thoroughly enjoyed our day on this spectacularly beautiful mountain. Staff was courteous and knowledgeable and everyone seemed to be in a festive atmosphere. We are coming back.

The family-run mountain is one of my favourites in the Eastern Townships with its excellent skiing and the lift ticket is one of the cheaper ones out here in Quebec ($50 tax included). It is about an hour an a half from Montreal so it is a little far compared to other mountains like Bromont but it is entirely doable in a day. The neighbouring towns have tons of accomodations so if you decided to stay overnight it would be a cinch. The mountain has around 50 runs and the difficulty rating for each is quite appropriate. I'm a fan of the blues but these are typically my preferred type of run to begin with. There are even a few double black diamonds for the real experts out there. Unfortunately on my most recent visit a large number of trails were closed but it's been a warm winter and that is hitting the ski resorts hard since they just aren't getting enough snow. Even with snow making a lot of hills are struggling to keep a large number of runs open so you can't fault management for that. One side of the mountain offers stunning views of Lake Memphregog and this is my preferred ski area just for the scenery. The crowds here never seem to be bad but then again it seems I always end up at Owl's Head on only the coldest days when most people would rather not be outside. The upside to super cold temperatures is non-existent lines for lifts and not many skiers on the runs. One day the stars will align though and I will get to see what the crowds are like on a nice skiing day. The chalet has a rustic feel to it but the cafeteria isn't the greatest. The food choices are very limited and only so so. The best deal is the meal of the day which features a soup, hot meal and drink for $10. It's reasonably priced and you do get a decent amount of food albeit the quality is lacking. Customer service here is first-rate. On my last visit every employee I dealt with that day was nothing but friendly. They all made pleasant conversation while serving me and in general were just really nice and helpful. This mountain is a fantastic place to ski at even when the weather doesn't cooperate. The quality of the skiing is excellent and they have some great runs to challenge you. Here's to another fifty years (and many more) in business for Owl's Head!

Rather than ordering from the menu, I gave our server complete creative freedom and asked her to choose my entire meal without telling me what I'd be getting. It turned out to be one of the best dining decisions I've ever made. The evening began with an exquisite foie gras served with duck and a beautifully balanced fruit purée. The texture was impossibly smooth and luxurious, while the flavors were rich, elegant, and unlike anything I've experienced before. For my main course, she selected perfectly seared scallops accompanied by a delicate tortellini and a silky scallop purée. Every bite was expertly prepared, with each component complementing the others without overpowering them. What made the evening truly memorable wasn't just the outstanding food--it was the trust I placed in our server and the exceptional care she took in creating a meal that felt both personal and unforgettable. From start to finish, the service was impeccable, and the entire experience was one I'll be talking about for a long time. If you're looking for a truly special dining experience, I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough.

We didn't have to wait long to be seated even though there were six of us. There were so many appealing items on the menu that it was hard to chose. Our server, Chau, was patient and helpful (even when I changed my mind about what to eat). Most of us ordered non-alcoholic drinks (their lemonade is delicious and not too sweet) and their home-baked bread, which was cut into quarters, was hearty and delicious, especially with the fresh butter that melted on impact. I started out with the Gaspacho, which was nice and cold, flavorful and just a bit chunky. For the main course I chose the Lobster Roll, without the roll, with half salad and half french fries. The meal in total was out of this world, and if I lived here I'd be at this place frequently. This restaurant also has facilities for recreation such as swimming pools, spa and I believe you can book a room as well. The grounds are spectacular and a perfect place to get away from the city. This establishment was awarded with the distinction at par with the Micheline 5-star rating, and I can understand why, even only having seen a fraction of the facilities. It's a little piece of heaven.
