Amazing. Although this property is currently undergoing renovations, we absolutely loved our stay! Ruby and her team were excellent host, accommodating all our our need and going above & beyond at every turn. The bar downstairs is well appointed and period correct. It's a beautiful space and perfect for a after dinner beverage and meeting. If you enjoy cigars, ask about the secret smoking space in the back, which also has a private patio for your enjoyment. I highly recommend the Lancaster Motel. We were visiting with famiply for a wedding and I'm really glad that I found it. The managers and owners Brian and his wife Ruby have restored this motel built in the fifties to its original glory with a lot of nice touches. We we're wishing we able to check out the live music that was featured on Friday and Saturday but because of the wedding festivities we missed it. The continental breakfast was better than most I've had in a motel or hotel. Great coffee and real milk with a large variety of things to eat. The best part was learning about some of the amazing features of the building like a hidden cigar bar placed in a perfect original setting complete with a special ventilation system to remove the smoke from the room. The rooms are very simple and I love the minimalist look- exposed brick, no cheesy motel art. the beds are really comfortable and the sheets are nice with a simple white duvet (no cheesy motel bedspreads) and lovely pillows. This place is an absolute dump. You get one key and are told that the door locks behind you and if you get locked out good luck because it will be a good long time before someone will be around to let you in. Our "non-smoking" room reeked like stale cigarette smoke. I kept looking around for a hidden camera but there isn't one. It's just this crappy here. read more

First, this is a small town in far northern New Hampshire and, while there may be some minor tourist trade for summer hiking or winter snowmobiling, this is not a hot spot. So I have to wonder what people expect when booking a motel in such a place. Some of the reviews here sound like people were expecting a high end Sheraton - why would you??? That being said this place is pretty cool for where and what it is. It's a U-shaped old fashion-y motel where you park your car in front of your room, I like that, it's fun. The room: My room was large, clean, and functional. Yes, the bathroom was tiny but for goodness sake how much time are you gonna spend in there? The floor was wood, there were two chairs, a table, microwave, and mini fridge - nice. Maybe it's been redone since some of these reviews because the TV was a flat screen with a gazillion channels. But, for heavens sake why bitch about TV? Is that why you're there? To watch TV? The bed was super comfortable, I slept really well, linens clean and nice and a warm blanket. The only very minor complaint - not even complaint really, but suggestion - is the mat by the door. I was there in January and there was snow, salt, sand, etc on my shoes and the mat in the room by the door is very small so hard to keep the mess in check. This, again, is a very minor thing I noticed. The staff: So. Very. Nice. The folks I dealt with here were just as personable, kind, accommodating as they could be. I have nothing but high praise for them. The bar: Oh yeah. The bar was awesome. I live in Portsmouth and it would easily go up against any bar in Portsmouth. Chuck the bartender was fun and knew his shit. There's a walk in humidor cigar bar area which is really cool. The interior was fitted out in this really eclectic style that I liked and I really enjoyed the couple hours I was there. If you happen to be in Lancaster for a night or more this is a great place to stay in my opinion. The beds - comfy and a good sleep - plus. The staff - super nice - big plus. We were put in a room between all the Fidium trucks that were up to help with the storm damage. The Fidium employees decided to party right outside our room for 3 1/2. hrs. I tried calling the office twice, no answer. we had finally had it at almost midnight, and I called the local police to do something. There were so many people outside our door. I wouldn't have been able to even leave to talk to them if I wanted to. The next morning, I showed the video that I took to the owner and she basically said she would refund us for the next night but she gave us 30 minutes to vacate the room. As we were packing to leave, she knocked on the door and told us she refunded Expedia but it was up to us to get the money from Expedia and she said "we're done". never in my life have I been treated like that as a customer. So to say,BEWARE. It is extremely over priced at over $200 a night and extremely outdated. read more

This motel is a hidden gem! My girlfriend and I were on a "wing it" weekend when we came across this place. Our favorite part was the speakeasy type cigar bar in their cocktail lounge! Legit had to walk through a bookcase to get into it haha if you're ever headed up to northern NH and want a nice place to stay with some really nice people you should come here! read more

Disappointing in so many ways. Checked in August 17, checked out August 18 Where should I start?? Charged 283.86 on my credit card, for one night. when I checked out the following morning 8AM I was told I couldn't get a receipt until 11 AM, I felt like they were trying to delay me getting my receipt Now I see why, charge the out of town traveler double, no receipt, First impressions, holy cow !! the cost, the low ceiling, nearly would rub against your head walking into the room, it gave the feeling like I needed to duck down. Being told not to lock myself out, they actually still use metal keys. The front desk is not occupied after a certain time and are told to fetch the bar tender and wait if I needed help. The TV cable box did not work, even the front desk cigarette smelling employee tried to make it work, I was told not to complain to Motel, that I should call and complain to Verizon, since when does a customer need to report these issues to the Motels vendor?? Reading their small print from the booking summary they even say you basically cant complain, or expect any kind of refund for their short falls. On their site about LOW CEILINGS, SMALL BATHROOMS, AND SMELL OF CIGARETTES. No headboards on the beds in room 108 , gives you an unfinished feeling. Did I mention the cable didn't work, my bad, shoulda called Verizon. they had an updated AC, bare wood trim surrounding it, either dirty or black mold from it not being sealed properly. You could also see where the power outlet used to be by the dirty outline on the wall. There online room pictures must be doctored, I guess you can filter and photo shop anything today, Using the Doll House size bathroom was a comedic skit, the sink was so low that I could have washed my nuts in it. Not to mention the shelf they had mounted above the low sink, while brushing your teeth, you would hit your head when rinsing and raising your head, the water wasn't draining so luckily I wasn't knocked out, because I would have drowned. NO LIFE GUARDS either. Then there's the toilet, stuck tightly in the corner, your knees against the tiny vanity, your left arm against a wall, and your opposing arm against the shower wall. WOW, But hey they only charged my credit card $283.86 while the receipt I later got @ 2PM once I returned says $146.07 will dispute........and warn as many travelers as possible. then the hot water was barely flowing out of the sink faucet, there were also no towels in the bathroom, No place to put them. Called the Motel to discuss charges just today, thought id give them another chance to redeem a customer. Rude employee, actually hung up on me after saying they can respond to all reviews.....WOW again. Read the small print, and watch your charges closely. its not the honest business you would expect in Lancaster, more of a black eye. read more

The staff here is wonderful and accommodating and deserve five stars. The motor inn however deserves only one star. I feel bad that what could be a great motel is the victim of low occupancy and no capital to upgrade. The rooms are a throwback from the 70's even though the 19 inch tv was manufactured in 1992. The exposed brick walls give a rustic character but totally prevent a decent wifi signal. They have added at least 5 wifi routers to the property ( based on the number of networks available). I would stay again if only one night but not a long term stay. read more

The room itself was fairly spacious, but the bathroom is my main complaint. It was sooo tiny and cramped I actually preferred not ever use the bathroom in our room. The toilet was crammed in a corner between 2 walls with not even a foot of space on either side and a sink right in front of you so no space in front of the toilet either.. it kinda felt like a jail. Extremely friendly staff. We showed up after the checkin time but they allowed us to check in. Clean rooms and a decent place to crash for the night. The only problem we had was that the centrally controlled heat wasn't good enough and we were freezing during the night. Also, the water from the shower was ice cold. Looking for a place to sleep? Well this place guarantees your room will come with a bed, though not much else. Yes the room had a microwave and a mini fridge that were fine, as well as free, although spotty, wifi. They also are kind enough to supply a TV! It's from 1995 and doesn't get a single channel though. But it has a bed if you need to sleep! Sure the bed is springy and you'll wake up with a bad back but it's better than sleeping in your car right (ok maybe not). The bathroom was tiny and I almost didnt fit on the toilet because it was in a nook that with maybe 4 inches of clearance on either side of the toilet and a foot in front. All in all if you're not sure if you should keep driving, sleep in your car or pull into this place... I'd recommend either of the first two options. read more

Just... Not good. So 1970's, it's not even funny. Old school carpets, brick walls inside the room and dated pieces. The tv is a 12" dome screen television with a VCR. A VCR! Can't control the AC which was needed and the bathroom had peeling wallpaper all over it. (As well as no shampoo, so make sure to ring your own). There were light switches that did nothing and two old 1978 plastic covered chairs that were too uncomfortable. Spend a little more if you can and stay elsewhere for a more enjoyable experience. read more

Don't waste your time or money. We just left and it was awful. We were supposed to have rooms together which we didn't. The rooms are smelly and our shower didn't drain which they never addressed. Within a few minutes of check in we closed the curtains to reveal they were drawn on and told the front desk about that as well. A few hours after check out I noticed a $100 charge and when I called they were rude and I was told they determined we did it and that was their position. Not a bad place for a motel in small town New England which is a shame because too many reviewers here think they're booking the Ritz. Staff was friendly and welcoming. My room was clean and looked well maintained. Yes, the TV was from the 90's and you couldn't adjust the hvac. But otherwise, it had the same amenities as any other modern motel. If your in need a room while visiting the Great North Woods, this would be a great choice. read more

I called the office for a one night stay for 3 families during July 4th weekend. They accommodated us very nicely. This motor inn is on the older side but we found the rooms very clean and very neat. The staff was very friendly and the rates were excellent. They took time to answer questions on activities in the area and directed us to a drive-inn less than 2 miles! Hadn't done that in 30 years. Well you get what you pay for. Lancaster Motor Inn was a very affordable option that allowed me to spend extra money on my brief vacation. Which was good and the staff was very friendly and hospitable and check in and check out were an absolute breeze. But..... The room really reeked of stale cigarette smoke, like really bad, I know I agreed to take a smoking room because it's all that was available but letting the room air out or spraying some Febreeze isn't asking to much. Also there was food left in the fridge from a previous guest. I had no idea how long it had been in there and was afraid to look. Also the comforter, some blankets and the carpet had cigarette burns in them. Also there was a VCR in the room seriously a VCR. Also the lady at the front desk admitted the the free Wi-Fi doesn't work in all rooms as some are just to far away. so don't bank on having it in your room. The TV presented a nice assortment of channels, the air conditioning worked and the bathroom and shower were clean. Another bonus is I didn't see any bugs. IF you're looking for a brief one night option where you literally just looking to sleep and shower, than the Lancaster Motor Inn is a nice affordable option. If you're looking for anything else I'd say look elsewhere. read more

Very comfortable room and friendly staff. Stayed there during the recent scorching heatwave, the A/C kept the room nice and cool. Wifi wasn't working so well from the room had to go to the lobby for any speed, once there it was very fast. The "continental breakfast" was rather sparse, some fresh fruit or milk would have been appreciated. If you are staying up north I'd recommend this place. read more

Great location, as we were able to walk to restaurants and shops. Rooms were very clean and staff was extra friendly. Continental Breakfast was included to start you off for the day. Free WIFI made it manageable to still work a little while away, A very quiet and homey place to stay. The price was also very acceptable compared to the other hotels in town. My room smelled old and dusty, the beds were pretty hard, and when the maid came to tidy up my room, she took my wet towels I had hung up to dry, but didn't give me new ones. The price wasn't to bad, about $65 a night. They had fresh baked, rather small, but tasty muffins in the morning. Other than that, the breakfast selection wasn't all that great. Fruit loops, rice cripsies, and corn flakes. Oh, and you can't control the thermometer from your room, which was pretty lame. It kind kind of cold at night, and if I put my head under the covers, I'd have to smell that dust old smell even more. There was cable Tv though. So not a terrible stay, but I've definitely had better. read more

We have stayed here many times in the past and been happy even though it is a very outdated property. After our last visit we will not stay again! There was no access to the AC which made it very uncomfortable. The housekeeper did practically nothing, picked up the trash and exchanged 2 towels. Did not clean bathroom, vacuum floor or make beds. Have never been in a place that did not make the beds! The breakfast was very limited and on the second morning there wasn't even any coffee! read more

They get 1 star for the nice staff, but otherwise the place was horrible. Didn't look too terrible from the street, but once I got in the room, I immediately regretted my decision. Had a weird smell. Couldn't control the cool/heat in the room (had to go get a space heater from the staff). There were lil hairs in the sheets (near the feet of the bed). Some of the outlets didn't work. The main light in the room didn't work. The outlets were only 2 prongs, so I had to unplug the refrigerator to use the adapter to plug in my laptop. The internet was so patchy that I spent 30 minutes trying to send an email. Someone came by my room (possibly drunk) and was banging on the door and trying to get in, but left after a couple attempts. There were holes in the walls and even the "artwork" painting above the bed! Most horrific night I've ever spent at a hotel. $70 was WAAAAAAAY too much for staying at this dump. read more

Lancaster Motor Inn welcomes you and your pets like family.Manager Paige and Scott(brilliant IT&Mr fix it)gave us the service that five star hotels around the world haven't given us for very cheap.We booked an apartment and rooms for our friends and employees as well as ourselves.We were treated SO WELL!Even with last minute changes the owner&manager VERY understanding.My husband had to leave MI after 35yrs together for new job till I could come&buy home.PAIGE and Scott took care of my hubby like family you LOVE.His every needs were met from cleaning for his allergies to his laundry etc.everything he needed they accomodated or referred him.This place was the BEST deal&treatment we have ever gotten even paying tons more per night.They will help you&if you need anything just ask.Remember treat people as how you would want to be treated.personally we feel Paige should be going around and teaching employees in motels hotels etc. How to manage and how to accommodate customers.Who would of thought could get help with WiFi and computer etc(Scott should be teaching IT somewhere).Don't judge a book by its cover cause Lancaster Motor Inn treated us BETTER than FIVESTAR places.
