    Short rib. Looks like Beefaroni.
    David F.

The place is great. The staff is great. The ambience is great. Unfortunately the food is not great. We're not the types to send stuff back, but if we were we would've asked for at least two of the four entrées to be exchanged. The beet salad looked great but it was completely bland. The waiter recommended the octopus which was very good, but we had to order cherry peppers and balsamic on the side to doctor it up. Short rib pasta was bland as was the squid ink linguine with seafood. The linguine was so overcooked it looked like wilted spinach- when one of the waitresses came by to ask if we wanted to take it home and she saw nearly the entire plate was untouched, she didn't even ask if everything was OK she just took it away. We really wanted to like this place because it got such high marks. Instead it just reaffirmed our theory, if you want great Italian you have to go to into the city.

Service was excellent. The food couldn't have been any better in the ambience is so nice. It's like a special occasion. The waiters Clinton be more kind and accommodating. The valet was extremely nice.

Our "go to" date night Restaurant! Always a great meal and service is paced so we are not rushed or waiting for our food. My favorite appetizer is the smoked salmon plate...enough to share. Lamp chops are always a great choice or the halibut. And the specials add difficult choices...everything g is great! Planning a neighbors night there this month!

Wow. Just wow. Phenomenal food! Appetizers: Kobe beef meatballs - melt in your mouth! Grilled octopus -SO tender and perfectly seasoned Entrees: Crispy branzino- huge piece of tender fish with crispy skin - awesome!! I had it with sautéed garlic spinach that was cooked so perfectly (I for once did not burp garlic all night!) Loved this meal! Lamb chops - I tried one from my friend and it was tender you didn't need teeth to eat it. Incredible! Dessert: You must get the apple strudel!! I tried someone else's and wished I had ordered that!!

Another amazing anniversary dinner here! We had crisp calamari for our appetizer. We both ordered the dover sole special, which was absolutely delicious. Sides were mashed potatoes and veggies. We both enjoyed pistachio gelato for dessert.

American Soul (Bourbon w/ hint of honey and ginger beer)

Met up w/ friends last night for a nice dinner at Novelli. Our waiter emphasized flexibility with their menu offerings, suggesting that their fish, veal and pork dishes could be prepared any way - not just what was on the menu. While a nice gesture, it became a bit unclear what that meant, price-wise, if you strayed from the menu and concocted your own dish. Little weird. Anyway - I stayed on their menu offerings and glad I did. The double-cut broiled pork chop with a light panko coating with a balsamic reduction was terrific. Perfectly cooked! My wife enjoyed her pasta dish with lump crab and friends enjoyed their dishes as well. Grilled octopus appetizer, beforehand, was tasty but seemed to have more potato than octopus and they threw in a slice of crostini bread as additional filler. For $20, keep the crostini - load up on the octopus please. Cocktails were well prepared. Mine was an interesting mix of bourbon, a bit of honey and ginger beer named "American Soul". Nice. Ladies enjoyed their lemon drops and cosmos and, all-in-all, a pleasant post-Thanksgiving "anything but turkey please" night out with good friends!

Every detail was handled professionally, warmly, and with genuine care. Once the food started coming out, we knew we had made the perfect choice. Everything was delicious, fresh, and there was more than enough for everyone. From the pizza to the rest of the menu, every dish was a hit with our group. Owner Steve personally checked in throughout the party to make sure everything was going smoothly and that everyone was happy, which really showed how much pride they take in their restaurant and customers. This was truly a wonderful experience and a perfect place to celebrate such a special occasion. I would highly recommend this restaurant for anything from a family party to simply stopping in for a great slice of pizza. Good grief the vino bianco/herb cream sauce on the mussels was incredible! Really! I could not get enough of it. I don't believe we've ever seen mussels on their menu, but man! These were phenomenal! The only complaint would be that there were not enough of the mussels. The ricotta cavatelli was also amazing... as are all of Viaggio's pasta dishes and sauces. Gelato stawberry/maple gelato was maybe the best gelato I've ever had. Not sure if they have this on their 'normal' menu, but if they do, I'm going to need some more. They do not pride themselves on hospitality, it's more like hostility and indifference. Originally made the point that life is too short to suffer at a place like this, given the wide variety of Italian restaurants in the area with better food, prices, service and most importantly, owners that genuinely treat customers fairly, even (and especially) when the establishment is clearly in the wrong. Read through all the reviews and see the common theme throughout many people's experiences with the same shock at the unregulated anger the owner directs toward a customer that expresses when the slightest problem with food quality, slow service, or overcharging. There was absolutely nothing personal about the original review, and nothing fake - good money was wasted on mediocre food and terrible service on too many occasions with an angry owner, and the review was just an honest assessment of a string of horrible experiences. That's how reviews work - they relate the good as well as the bad elements of an establishment and share these honest reactions with the community. What's truly disheartening is to see the owners attempting to pontificate after the fact that the review is somehow fabricated because they can't accept the reality that they're being called out (as they should be) for mistreating customers disrespectfully in a regular basis. I would never try to speak up in the moment at this place, as we've witnessed the owner literally berating customers and ruining an evening out for even mildly complaining on more occasions than I'd like to remember. At this place, their motto is "the customer is always wrong." It truly took a lot to have to write the original review and now to follow up to the owner's response, because they're anything but receptive to customer feedback. It's truly incredulous that the owner responded in this manner just because they want to promote their business. Smart diners will see through this. So take their advice if you dare, go ahead, make your own decision as they try to suggest, and work up the courage to try it out and ignore this and every other negative review ... but brace yourself, and as it's said, "buyer beware!" Just don't say you haven't been warned.

For apps: Clams oreganato (the couple with us enjoyed this), flat bread (was much more like pizza than flat bread, but still tasty, per my husband), and on the special New England Clam Chowder which was very good, not too thick and decent and fresh clams in it. Entrees: Shrimp Risotto scampi, very flavorful Risotto cooked perfectly. I ate it and enjoyed it, but not the best I've had. My husband ordered the key Lime Pie happy that it did not include nuts in the crust as some do, he thought it was good. I don't know how I heard about this place but somewhere on the internet. It's been going viral. As it should. This is one of the best dining experiences I've had in a while. It absolutely blew me away. We're talking flavor combinations like Saddle River Inn by Chef Jamie Knott and Bill Van Pelt's ecclectic James on Main. This is rarified air. I came on a Tuesday right when they opened for dinner at 5:30. I was the only person in the establishment for a bit, but then it filled up by the time I left. I had the privilege of being waited on by Beth, the bartender, who's been bartending in the building since 2 different establishments ago. She was fantastic and a consummate professional from my walk in to my walk out. I was frequently greeted by manager Alex. We spoke about the best restaurants in north Jersey. Agreed on gems like Prime 94 in Fairfield and River Palm Terrace in Edgewater. He's been in the business and knows what he's talking about. I got the price fixe menu for $69. It included first - some bread appetizer (not pictured) and then a shrimp and (eggplant?) or zucchini appetizer. I also got some free bread with olive oil. Next up was the egg yolk raviolo. And it's exactly how you heard. The star of the night. I love eggs so I'm a little extra biased. I asked Beth if I could also try the butternut squash agnolotti and she hooked it up complimentary. For the main course, I paid the $10 upcharge for the lobster and it came in this sweet sauce. Succulent is the word I'd use. Lots of lobster. I am happy with the choice I made. Now I only eat one meal a day so my only complaint at this point was that I was still hungry. But most people would be well and full by this point. So I asked for the menus again. I ordered scallops. Came with some fried leeks. Truly out of this world flavors in every dish. The price fixe comes with 1 dessert. I wanted to try 2 so I got 1 à la carte. A pistachio crème brûlée tart and a pistachio hazelnut dessert. I recommend the former. I also had 2 beers. I'm telling you I can eat. But the bill came out to a very pleasant surprise of $160. I had to do a double take to see if my girl Beth hooked me up anywhere on there but outside of the complimentary small portion of the agnolotti, nope, that was the price. I made sure to hook her up though! 5 words for the 5-star restaurant. Can't wait to come back.
