Most restaurants I've been to, I don't have a good bar dinner, sometimes the bar isn't just everyone's taste, however, when I come here, I always want to sit at the bar. Love the drinks, always on point. Not only is the service great, but I look forward to coming here for the food. The portions are huge! It is a little on the pricey end but to me it's worth it. What a disaster it turned out. Buffalo wings were simply un-edible, hard as old rubber. The roasted ones also bad, funky taste like chicken was not fresh. Beyond me how reputable establishment can fail so badly; do they want squeeze every penny out of stale food that should go to garbage? Absolutely love it here. My parents have been coming here consistently for years and have had nothing but great things to say, so I decided to stop by with a friend and try it out. It was pretty busy inside, but we were able to sit at the bar immediately. They serve bruschetta and warm bread & olive oil (complimentary) as you wait for your food, which I was impressed with because I haven't seen a restaurant offer all of this, in my experience. We ordered the penne vodka and were blown away. Genuinely some of the best vodka sauce I've ever had in my life, and my friend agreed. I haven't stopped thinking about it since lol! I went back with my boyfriend a couple weeks later. I ordered the penne vodka again, it was equally as delicious as the first time I ordered it. I also ordered one of their specialty winter drinks which was so good. My boyfriend got chicken francese over linguini and absolutely loved it, along with his espresso martini. Every staff member and server we encountered were so lovely and welcoming. They truly make you feel like family here! You can tell this place is top notch from the food to the genuine staff members as well. I love the old school, nostalgic, Italian vibe too. Wonderful classy Italian restaurant with excellent servers and classic Italian dishes as well as signature menu items. We actually had a guest at our 8 person table spill wine and the servers were out to clean it immediately with no issues and no delay to our meal. Food was good however price were RIDICULOUS! Not to mention - the waiter was a scam artist. We went with 2 kids who both ordered 1/2 portions of pasta bolognese. One of the orders was gluten free. The regular bolognese is $29.99 ... when we got the bill - we had one $29.99 & one $31.99 for 1/2 portion of bolognese. When question - initially the waiter fought & said that is price for 1/2 portion - however on further discussion - he agreed he made a mistake. When he returned with new bill - one was fixed but the $31.99 gluten free 1/2 portion bolognese stood ... the waiter informed us that GLUTEN FREE PASTA WAS A $10.00 CHARGE!!!! Go here for the margarita pizza and a large selection of traditional US NJ Italian options if you are with a large picky party. There's something for everyone on this expansive menu. I've been here many times and just haven't found anything that was worth writing home about. This time I was trying to be healthy and had the Bronzino special in capers and butter but wouldn't get it again bc it was $40 that just didn't hit the spot. It was good and I'm sure a lot of people love it I just don't really care for this fish...I think seeing the scales on the skin threw me off. My son ate it tho. My cousin ordered the margarita pizza and my son ordered a cheesesteak pizza. I stole a slice of my cousins margarita and was pleasantly surprised as i have eaten here many times but never had tried their pizza! This pizza was probably my favorite thing ever that I never would have thought to order. Tried the penne vodka which is what they recommended and it was just okay IMHO. Wouldn't order it. Service is always fun with an interesting character serving up advice. Loved that they give you complimentary cheese slices with your complimentary bruschetta! They have a full bar but none of my fav flavored vodkas anymore. Only half the dining room was open and it was half full on a Wednesday night at 830pm. (they have doors that close off part of the dining area so you don't feel like you are sitting alone on a large empty restaurant which I think is awesome for a better ambiance) I just was glad to get a table on the spot bc Pazza had over an hour wait but they would have had to split our party into 5/4. I took a group of 9 here after the kids concert and was grateful for the round table they immediately seated us at. They have a bar and the sports games were on that you could see from our table so I think the guys were happy about that. They give complimentary melon and biscotti for dessert. Six stars! Gia greets you warmly at the door, brings you to a table where Tim asks how your day was and takes your cocktail order. You enjoy your drink, hear the weekly specials while munching on complimentary bread with bruschetta. After reviewing their extensive menu you select some appetizers and your entree. Greg stops over to say hi, cracks at least one corny joke and makes sure you don't need anything. Food comes out piping hot and you're in heaven. Co-Owner brothers Tony or Pat come by, thank you for being there and ask if you need anything. You finish your meal, thoroughly having enjoyed yourself then try the complementary biscotti and melon. You settle up and on the way out Gia says she'll see you next time, Because....she certainly will. We've been coming to Trovato's for the past 15 years because it nails the combination of delicious food, great service and very nice atmosphere. We come here as an immediate family for special dinner, as a couple for date night out and extended family to celebrate an occasion. They are the go-to for us when it comes to private parties too - my parents 50th wedding anniversary with around 60 guests and a repast with 30 guests. The staff is friendly and caring; they know you have other options for dining and do all they can to make your experience here the absolute best. What do we enjoy to eat here? Everything. Like honestly I can't remember saying "that wasn't good". On date night we love the tapas menu to try lots of things in small portions - gnocchi, shrimp beeps, shrimp aribbiata,baked eggplant, long stem artichokes. All awesome. On the apps menu I definitely recommend the calamari and the long hots. Cranberry walnut Gorgonzola is our favorite salad. For entrees you have so many choices. You can't go wrong with the classics like chick parm and you'll love the way Trovatos prepares salmon. Two last food comments - must try the broccoli rabe if you like that vegetable. We order it a lot of places and no one does it better than Trovato's. It's #1. Other point is strongly consider their weekly specials. Some really great options pop up on there. My daughter and fiancé went on Valentine's night had a 8:30 reservation and had to wait until 9:15 to sit. They were so unorganized waited at the bar and finally got called but had to wait for the bill for another 13 minutes instead of just putting it on the table bill. They sat down and ordered a Diet Coke and a drink and the drinks never came. Food came and had to ask 3 times for their drinks. A truly excellent "old-school" Italian restaurant. If you like the Belmont Tavern or fondly remember Michael Angelo's (Newark) from back in the day, you will love this. I don't mean to attack fellow Yelpers, but I think the low reviews don't fairly reflect how well this restaurant nails its genre. Come here for the long hot peppers with fried potatoes, the escarole and beans, and chicken on the bone with crispy garlic. Most of the food we ordered was good however service was terrible and so were the drinks that were very overpriced. We had a reservation to sit at the bar since they were no tables which was fine. However, the bartender was rude to us and other customers. She made our drinks wrong and gave us a hard time when we wanted to have just appetizers and drinks, even though it was already almost 8 o'clock at night. She charged us for the wrong food and gave us a hard time about correcting it. Instead of charging us for appetizer type smaller dishes, she charged us for the full size dish prices, even though the food brought out to us were small plate size. They will make any dish however you like it. The pasta is always fresh. The daily specials always diverse and interesting. I especially love all the different peppers they have. Fabulous as usual!! This restaurant is one that can be counted on as one that consistently delivers delicious food. I will say I may have had the absolute best chicken franchise ever. So yummy!! My husband had the smaller size of the linguini with clam sauce and I think he would have drank the broth if it was possible. Soooo good everything from the atmosphere to the attentive staff, it's just over the top!! Oh I almost forgot my cucumber martini made perfectly!! Everyone of the reviews has said it and it true the people make this place feel like home. Friendly and not overbearing service. The lovely old school style space is perfect for an excellent dinner. The large menu covers everything you could imagine and they somehow come up with specials on top of that. Every time we have been here the food comes out piping hot in a beautiful presentation. The salmon was cooked rare as I requested and seasoned beautifully. My wife enjoyed a pasta in red sauce cooked aldente. A complementary salad with the entree was excellent and appreciated. A hidden gem of an excellent italian restaurant. From the moment you step in, you're warmly greeted by the hostess. They immediately serve you complimentary Bruschetta along with salami and cheese. Outstanding taste! The Caesar salad was delicious! Perfectly prepared with just the right amount of dressing with a hint of anchovies. The Chicken Parmigiana was also perfectly prepared. Three pieces of thinly sliced tender chicken topped off with a generous amount of homemade marinara and mozzarella. The featured pistachio martini should not be missed. Amazingly prepared with a small scoop of pistachio ice cream. It definitely could also be served as a dessert drink. After the table is cleared, you are served with a small plate of sliced fresh cantaloupe and mini biscotti cookies. The dessert selections included two homemade choices. A decadent looking chocolate lava soufflé and a rich chocolate banana bread served warm with a premium tasting vanilla ice cream and whip cream. The banana bread dessert was one of the finest desserts I've had. Outstanding texture, flavor and sweetness. Service was attentive and on point however, our server did neglect to enter our appetizer when ordering our food from the kitchen. This is a family friendly neighborhood restaurant that has a great selection of fine foods, desserts and service. Valet parking on this Friday evening was the only parking option. We loved everything we tried!! The hot fresh mozzarella, mussels, stuffed artichoke appetizers were delicious. Any of their veal/chicken dishes are great BUT the star of the show was their homemade tortellini carbonara. The drinks were pricey but very well made. Dessert selection was nice as there was a lot of variety. The owner stopped by a few times to check in which is always appreciated. It is definitely a lively restaurant and can be a bit loud but who cares when you're having a great time! If you're looking for a quiet spot maybe come during the week. I come here on a regular basis and I can say with full confidence that not a single one of my dining experiences here has been mediocre or poor. As soon as I step in the door, I feel as though I'm a guest in someone's home. The hostess always greets me with a warm welcome and smile. The bartender, Gynna, provides excellent service and conversation. As stated before, I frequent this establishment. Over time have become acquainted with the menu so I can attest that the quality of the food is top notch. Not once has anything come out cold, lackluster, lukewarm, or under/overcooked. I highly recommend the shrimp beeps, stuffed artichoke, penne vodka, and the pork francese topped with long hot peppers and roasted potatoes. Just thinking about it gets my mouth watering.
