Recently moved to LA and have been looking for a butcher with good dry aged steaks. My favorite has always been 25 day dry aged Double R ranch, which generally run about $36 a pound at specialty butchers. I was hesitant to try Novy Ranches due to the fact that they only sell their meat frozen. So glad I didn't let that stop me. I stopped by their store on Thursday and purchased 2 bone-in rib eyes and 6 lbs of short ribs. I cooked the short ribs on my Pit Barrel and the flavor was fantastic. I just wish they sold plate ribs... I threw the steaks in my sous vide on Saturday for 2.5 hours at 129, dunked them in a quick ice bath, and finished them in a hot cast iron. AMAZING. One of the best steaks I've ever had. Starting frozen didn't result in any noticeable difference in the finished product. Slight funk/umami flavor from the dry aged, that was just perfect. Price and flavor make this this my go to for steak in the in the LA valley area. read more

The meat is incredible and the customer service is just as good. We initially visited the store in Simi Valley to pick up a few cuts of meat and see what they're all about. Jojo was very helpful and knowledgable about their meat and made a few suggestions of cuts we should consider trying that we may not have heard of before (Denver cut was one of them). We also inquired about ordering 1/4 or 1/2 a cow, and by the time we got home we had an email from Judy, who's family owns Novy Ranches, reaching out to us to see if she could answer any questions we might have had about the ordering process. We then spoke with her on the phone for nearly an hour as she answered our questions and helped us decide what type of order (cuts, weight, etc) would suit us best. We ended up ordering a 1/2 cow, and followed Judy's advice on many of the cuts since it was our first time ordering something like this. If you've never had 100% grass fed beef, you won't believe the difference it makes in the quality and taste of the meat. Up to this point, we've been buying all of our meat from Whole Foods, trying to get 100% grass fed as much as possible. While we still think the meat from our Whole Foods is very good, the meat from Novy Ranches blows it out of the water. I really didn't expect that much of difference, and it's a really great price, especially when buying in bulk. We'll definitely be ordering from Novy Ranches again. read more

I was looking for a good place to buy steak here in Simi, and this place sounded great. I was a bit put off by the fact that all of the meat is vacuum packed and frozen. But the lady at the counter was very enthusiastic about the ranch and the meat, so I decided to try a grass-fed filet mignonette At $32/pound, it's not cheap, but the filet was a bit over a half pound, and at $18.25, it seemed like a decent price for great meat. I thawed it overnight in the refrigerator, sprinkled it with salt and pepper, then put it in my Sous-vide cooker at 126 degrees for about two hours. Then I put it in a very hot cast-iron pan for about one minute on each side, turned off the heat, added a knob of butter, basted it and let it sit for five minutes before serving. My wife and I agreed that it was one of the best steaks we've ever eaten!! Better than any steakhouse and a fraction of the price! I highly recommend Novy Ranch for steak! Just prepare it properly, and you'll be rewarded! read more

What a nice find in Simi Valley! I'm always on the lookout for a nice piece of meat. It was such a random place though. Kind of looked like a nicely decorated office when you first walk in. It kind I threw me off that the meat came frozen but I guess that's what happens when the cows live in Northern California. I got the boneless rib eye for $20-- the color and the meat itself looks great. I think anything would be better than Von's or Ralph's with their meat that looks dyed and aged! The man at the shop was also very nice and attentive. I will definitely come back. Meat just sounds so much tastier from free range cows. read more

The best beef I'v ever enjoyed. I found Novy Ranch meat at my local farmers market today. Wow! It was an amazing find. I purchased some ground beef and made some ragú. Same recipe I've made many times. This by far was the best Iv ever tasted. As soon as the beef hit the pot, the kitchen filled with an amazing aroma. Hard to describe, but it smelled sweet and fresh. I don't eat beef often because I do not like our beef industry. But when I saw them at the farmers market & read about their ranch and meat production, I gave it a try. So glad I did. Beef liver is one of the greatest all time sources for iron, but feedlot beef liver is controversial, being that the liver processes toxins and feedlot cattle are certainly filled with their fare share of junk. Searching for a good source of grass finished, humanely-treated cattle liver was a bit of a challenge, as it is in high demand. Novy Ranches got right back to me and within one day they had 5lbs of liver for me. I have yet to taste the liver, but did pick up a package of their beef jerky, which was delicious! I'm jumping the gun a bit to give them 5 stars, but they were so unbelievable hospitable at their local store in Simi Valley, and took the time to tell me everything about their products and cattle. The world is too short on folks like these. They truly care about their cows and fiercely protect the integrity and health of their products. Robin and her niece were extremely helpful and friendly, and I was even fortunate enough to have met D.r Novy himself when he happened to stop by the store while I was there. He sat down with me and spoke for about 30 minutes about Novy Ranches! It's just so rare to find this kind of customer service and hospitality anywhere, and I'm thrilled to have found a source for high-quality grass finished meats at a very reasonable price. They even tossed in a bag of ground organ meat on the house! Bada boom bada BING! I absolutely love the beef purchased here. Not only are they fresh, but grass-fed! The ground beef prices are a couple dollars more than that of other health stores that sell grass-fed, but I found that it's worth it because it's freshly frozen and packaged. There is no doubt about the quality. What's more interesting is when cooking these meats - it smells absolutely amazing, much more fragrant than those you get at the average grocery store. read more

Bought a Conejo Deals coupon to try them out. It was for 4lbs of ground beef. Would have liked to have been able to try a steak too, but the offer was only ground beef. So we tried it - and Yum! I deliberately did some light seasoning - salt, pepper and a dash of Worcestershire sauce. I cooked them a shorter time as we were instructed, and yes, they do cook fast... Meat was very tasty and almost melts in your mouth. I gave them a 4 star because there are more things to try. Such good meat! Me and my husband have been clients of their's for almost a year. We really love all kinds of different cuts they have, as we have tried a lot! Our usual is the 97/3 ground beef, Italian style sausages, Knuckle bones for broth, Osso Bucco cuts. Everything else is so good too. You have to try it out, five stars to costumer service and quality. Wish I could buy a whole cow through them! Novy ranches steaks are horrible. The flavor is passable but the texture is awful. They should mark their steaks as gristle with beef flavoring added. I am no beef expert so I can't say why they raise such gristly cows, but you will find that they do. Don't waste your money. Get steaks at Costco. You will get much better meat. read more

Novy Ranches is a new addition to weekly Gig's Farmer's Market at the Americana. They sell high quality, 100% grass fed and free range cuts of meat. All of their products are aged a minimum of 21 days and are hormone free.... not just that they're also really tasty! The Novy Ranch stand has an impressive list of meat selections from Ribeye's to breakfast sausages to chorizo. All their products come frozen and vacu-sealed. I've had a chance to try the chorizo, ground beef and smoked pepperoni. The chorizo (4.5 out of 5) was really tasty. True to the sales guy, it was the leanest and some of the tastiest chorizo I've had. It cooked really easily and had a nice strong flavor, minus all the grease that usually comes with this kind of sausage. The ground beef (3.5 out of 5) was really nice as well. The beef was super lean yet still had nice flavor. The smoked pepperoni sticks (4 out of 5) were great. They have a nice smoked flavor to them but like the other products I had, it wasn't oily at all. Great little snack to have around. Overall, Novy Ranches is a great place to stock up on some high quality meat products. The only caveats are that the portions on a lot of the products can be on the large side (we're talking Costco big) and they can also be a little price.... but it's pretty justified considering the quality of it. read more

I have been buying meat from Novy for a few years now. Their ground is the best tasting grass fed beef that I have tried. I was told by Dr. Novy that this because of the different blend of grasses that he feeds the cows causes the the taste that he has found to be the best (I have eaten at least 4 other brands). And yes, grass fed beef is more expensive than conventionally raised beef, but so much healthier. I love the the service at Novy, the compassionate care for the animals, the specials they run, the variety of cuts, and the availability of their products. Awesome angus beef! The beef bacon was amazing, and the ground beef flavorful, and relatively inexpensive for being grassfed and local. Grass fed beef renders more quickly, and has less fat and more protein than its feedlot counterparts, so it needs less cook time at lower heat. It's a good idea to look up tips on how to cook grassfed beef, or it may be prone to overcooking! So glad this place is at my local farmers market. Between this and my CSA box, I have no need to go to the grocery store, and as a single mother, it's well within my budget! read more

What a disappointment and a huge waste of my time. Since they hardly ever have stuff available at the market, i ordered online for pickup at Santa Monica Farmers Market. Got confirmation email and receipt for charges but after taking my Saturday morning to do business there, they didn't have any idea about my order, wanted me to pay there again, and didn't even have half of what I requested. My grandfather and mother were cattle ranchers in Florida...its a shame you can't expect the same customer service here and instead get the old 'bait n switch'. I have never been to the store however have purchased beef at Calabasas and Woodland Hills farmers Market. This is fine high quality grass fed beef. I recommened this company similar quality as grass fed beef at Whole foods but at a lower price. The review by sharon below is comparing the beef to a feedlot of the five. If you are use to low quality vons (Harris Ranch) beef you will require time to adjust to the taste. Overall i totally recommend this BEEF. read more

I just purchased just under a pound of meat; I asked for a tender cut of meat that I could just season and BBQ or grill. The sales person was very courteous and helpful. I purchased the meat that the sales person recommended, and it was $16 per pound. I took it home and defrosted it. I seasoned and grilled it, and it was incredibly tough. I am very disappointed. I do not plan to purchase frozen $16/lb meat from a Farmers Market again. read more

We grilled the boneless ribeye over a hot grill for a total of 15 minutes, flipping it over several times. This produced a beautiful sear on the outside and medium rare on the inside. Fabulous taste! It was very flavorful, even though it was a bit chewy and we needed to trim the gristle. I bought 1.33 lbs of the Novy Ranch boneless ribeye at the Torrance farmers market and I didn't expect the two of us to finish it, but we polished off the whole thing. It was my first time trying the meat, but not my last. The sales person couldn't have been nicer and gave me instructions on how to grill it. read more

Some of the worst Rib Eye we have ever had. The flavor was alright, but for Prime grass fed Beef, it was the toughest meat we have had in ages. We cook our steaks medium rare. There is always a lot of marbled fat throughout Rib Eye steaks, but these steaks had that grizzly fat all over them and the fat that was on there was inedible. Yes, good fat on a steak says it all. We paid $70 for 3 lbs. I have eaten at Morton's, Chris Ruth, Monty's and many other Prime Beef restaurants in the last 30 years and you would never see that type of grizzly fat on a steak nor have it be extremely tough. I had a steak and eggs at a local restaurant for $11 and that steak was far superior to these steaks. What a shame, we were looking forward to a local place to buy Prime Beef and give our business to, but honestly, I have had better meat at a Sizzler or Denny's. Now for somewhat local and outstanding beef, try Harris Ranch. No, I have no affiliation to any of these companies. This local Novy Ranch store was in Ventura County, CA. read more
