Delicious Carne Asada! I don't know why I haven't been here before. I was craving a homemade quesadilla, but with delicious, flavorful meat, so I headed over to this market. FOOD: I ordered 1/2 pound of carne asada. I asked for a side of salsa verde and the girl gave me a generous sized container! The meat was scooped with a spoon, however, I saw the woman who helped me making a burrito before me and she used her bare hands in the onion container. I'm sorry, but I'm a fan of gloves. OVERALL: I loved the meat and the salsa verde. The meat is very flavorful and diced small. I love that. Unfortunately, it is a bit salty. If they'd tone down the salt a bit, it would be perfect! The girl working there was not too friendly, but on my second visit, a guy helped me and his customer service was great. I may return again in the future. For about $3-4 a taco, you can't beat the deal at Mercado Guadalajara! I tried the lengua, tripa, and cabeza (tongue, intestine, and cheek) and all were delicious! The salsa verde and a bit of lime made for an excellent taco. All the meats were tender and throughly seasoned. What stood out the most is how generous the meat servings were - they are literally spilling over with beef. Having resided in San Diego, I can say with confidence that these street tacos are legit. I will not spend money in Mercado Guadalajara. Although the products, veggies and food are good, the short order food staff needs a customer service upgrade in their overall FOOD PREP customer service including the front checkout stations. Some of the comments about the staff being not too friendly is being way too kind. Nice grocery store/ market with lots of fresh produce, snacks, meats you can buy, and even amazing freshly made Mexican food. I have tried a few things here now and can say this spot is pretty good ! Such a good food spot. Not just tacos but tortas and burritos. Hearing all the different types of meats and foods you could get always made my mouth water. It's located at the back of the store and be prepped to wait in line cause the line easily reaches the front of the store. You can look at all the different snacks and foods that store sells while you wait. The asada was good, the tripas to die for, and the al pastor mmmmm. The chile verde is really good too. My friend often speaks highly of this place so I was excited to finally be able to give it a try with her as we were craving some authentic Mexican food. Located in a very small strip mall I've passed by this spot a few times and never noticed it. Keep your eyes peeled for it because I do wish I would have seen and tried this spot sooner. While it's a small shopping center we were able to find parking easily and came inside about 30 minutes before closing. This spot is a traditional Hispanic market with a hot bar and butcher counter in the back. Here they have a pretty good sized hot bar where you can order tacos, burritos, meat plates, and Agua frescas. I was impressed with the size of the market as well as it was pretty big, clean, and had an impressive selection! It's much bigger inside then it appears to be on the outside. I definitely need to come back here to do some proper grocery shopping. At the hot bar I ordered two pastor tacos and one Asada. Unfortunately the gentlemen misunderstood me and switched the order but I was too shy to speak up, it was fine but I need to work on my ordering skills lol. Asked for a side of rice and beans hoping to make the tacos like w combo plate. Not sure if I wasn't clear or they don't do combination plates but instead he gave me a small container of rice and beans which were individually priced. A little too much food for me based what I had intended to get but he was friendly enough so I just took it as he packaged it. Three tacos and the two sides ran me about $15 so not bad. Also in the back I was super excited to see large fried pork chicharrones, so I snagged one and their homemade guacamole from the market. Once you finish ordering and getting your food at the hot bar you take it up to the register to pay. It was all easy enough and everyone who works here is super friendly. This spot definitely deserves your business and it's a great local find. The only reason for the docked star is that some of the food was hit and miss. Everything tasted good in general but some items I wouldn't get again. My favorites here were the chicharrones! Super fatty and fried deliciousness. Their homemade guacamole slaps, it was mild but paired with the pork it was the best bite of the night. Also I'm a sucker for refried beans and they have good beans here. Would definitely be back for this again. The items I wasn't as big on were the tacos generally speaking. I actually think the issue was that I came 30 minutes before closing and the taco meat just didn't taste that fresh. I was hoping for juicy meat and bold flavors but the meat was a little bland and forgettable. Again, I really think the timing of when I came made a difference as my friend loves their pastor. I need to come back for lunch and try it in a burrito to make my determination. Also the rice was a pass from me, not memorable. I make better Mexican rice but it's okay, you can't win them all. This Mercado is a gem and I appreciate the local vibes. Really stellar spot for your specific grocery needs and I'll be dreaming of that fried pork until I can get back here to get some more. The chicken burrito was probably the best I've ever had. The chicken was fresh cut to order, grilled to perfection, seasoned perfectly and absolutely delicious! Went there at 11:00am got in a long line stood there for about 15 minutes. When I got to the counter I asked for Carnitas and they were out of them. The store just opened they didn't say they were not finished being cooked or they would be ready in so many minutes just we're out of Carnitas. I don't speak Spanish and I think it wasn't a big deal to the persons behind the counter. So sad because they make the best Carnitas around town. read more

Good, authentic Mexican food, but not very Covid-friendly. This place is walking distance from where I work, which is convenient. It's a small market that has rows of groceries that are spaced out for basically one person to be in between the rows. This doesn't go well with trying to be a Covid-friendly place. The kitchen is in the far left corner of the market, and I went when there was quite a line. The line didn't take too long, but the place didn't exactly allow the customers to social distance properly. Once you order your food, you go to the cashier at the grocery line, and that wasn't very orderly. As I mentioned it's a pretty tight place inside, and I honestly didn't feel the most comfortable being in such close proximity of people indoors. A way to improve this is to limit the number of people in the market. I got the Al Pastor burrito, and it cost about $12. It was quite a big burrito as I couldn't finish it. The Al Pastor tasted delicious, but my burrito was absurdly "sweating" so much oil out of the tortilla. I needed (not exaggerating) 15 layered napkins to soak up the oil. That part was quite annoying, but I know it is part of the cooking of the meat. I have to say that the kitchen has many different types of meat options, which is always great. The people who worked at the market were friendly. I heard some of the employees speaking Spanish as well! My friend got a drink from the juice stand part of the kitchen. My friend asked for a large size of hibiscus juice, and the employee kept pointing to the wrong juice and the wrong size. And when the employee got the juice, he spilled so much of it; he cleaned it off with a paper towel, but I was surprised he didn't get a new cup to give my friend a clean one. They make the absolute best street tacos, burritos, and quesadillas ever - every single traditional ingredient from small to large is carefully prepared and seasoned in its own way. The asada, pollo, lengua, al pastor, and birria are legendary when it comes to flavor - you can't go wrong with any of those. Pick one or more of their homemade salsas (aguacate y roja for me por favor) and your tastebuds will be in heaven, I guarantee it. Order a birria burrito and have them throw some consomé on top...you can thank me later. Best part? This place is cheaaaappp. You get a monster burrito for $9 that's so jam packed full of flavor and meat that it's hard to not inhale it in 8 bites. The food servers and cook serve food made entirely on the premises. Everything is good. I always get a burrito with cabeza meat. So rich, so tender, so flavorful. Literally delicious. The market has lots of stuff, much of it The Mexican market version of familiar products. The deli offers good quality meat, cheap. I like this place a lot. They raised their prices a little bit recently but it's still the best in Thousand Oaks UPDATE: Alright 5/5. I moved to Orange County and I didn't know what I had until it was gone. This is probably my favorite Mexican food period. Whenever I go back to TO I always hit this place up. They could raise the price of their burritos to like $20 and they'd still have a costumer in me. I hope they aren't reading this though. I recommend the burritos. They have the perfect mix of rice, beans, and they load that thing up with meat like you wouldn't believe. Also onions, cilantro, and red sauce. I've gotten the chicken, carne asada, and carnitas.
