Tried this pace for the first time and I'm surprised by how much I like my nails. I usually have an issue with the shape, quality, or overall look when getting acrylic nails. I like my nails to look thin and even, and a lot of techs struggle to achieve that. Amy did an impeccable job on my nails and was done in under 45 minutes. I have to agree with some other reviews that the salon could be a bit tidier, but overall, I was very happy with my experience.

These ladies always do an amazing job. They each have their own talent and send you to the right one to get what you want. Everytime I go I'm in love with my nails! On nice days they leave the front doors open and there is fresh air in there. So relaxing and convenient. I usually call ahead to make an appointment and can get in the same day. If you haven't been give them a try and I'm sure you'll love it!

Can honestly say this is one of the best nail salons in Portland. The amount of work and attention these ladies put into getting the shape right and consistency with acrylic powder makes the experience worth it alone. I've gone to a couple of salons in the area and my nails have chipped or broken after a week, with only normal activity. I'm always impressed by my nails after I leave Nu Nails, and they are affordable for anyone who doesn't have a disposable income. I will continue to use their services and recommend for anyone searching for a place in downtown Portland.

Inconsistent service. I'll attach photos of the nail sets i received within a month at the same place, although different individuals did my nails. Anyways I was shocked that they thought the blue manicure was ok. Received the pink and went back excited for blue and the difference is shocking.

They are the best at shaping acrylic nails!! They always make them look so so good and never thick or uneven. They are also really fast and great when you're in a rush. Not to mention how good the quality is, these blue nails lasted me over a month and none of them broke! Love this place so much and would highly highly recommend especially for acrylics.

I drive almost 30 minutes to get my nails done here. Amy does an absolute fantastic job every single visit! I would give her more stars than 5 if I could! I love how consistent she is and how she will ask me multiple times throughout the appointment how my nails look or if I want her to do anything different. I also love how she takes her time and doesn't rush through the appointment. It makes me feel welcomed and important. If you don't already go here, I would suggest you check it out! read more

Such high attention to detail, kind, patient. Very calm energy environment and is very thoughtful. Gave me exactly what I asked for and more, I'm not very good at expressing what I want but she went above and beyond. I wish I could remember her name. The employees were extremely kind and worked very quickly. I walked-in last Friday for an acrylic set and a pedicure. I was disappointed because I felt like the employee worked too quickly on my toes that the paint wasn't consistent across the nails. Similarly, my cuticles were dry and four of my fingers were bleeding. I know it's not their fault but it was very aggressive. I was a little worried about the hygiene aspect because they continued to keep working on my hands with the cut. read more

I went in on Friday to get a manicure. I was left waiting in a chair for over 10 minutes then finally serviced by someone who was on FaceTime talking very loudly ignoring me. Finally once she started my nails she cut two fingers pretty badly with the cuticle scissors while trying to work at a crazy speed to get me in and out I'm assuming. I was in no rush not sure why she was it was 4:30pm the business closes at 6pm... anywho while my fingers are bleeding what really bothered me was the total lack of sanitation and seriousness of the issue. I left with yes a manicure but two bloody fingers that still are bleeding and very sensitive 24hrs later. I paid full price plus tip for her time but I will NEVER be back and I wouldn't recommend this salon to anyone. read more

I am impressed with the way they work . It was a no fuss process , as just one person handled me right from when I walked in ,to the manicure and to billing . I originally wanted a dip manicure but then changed my mind based on the suggestions of the person who was working with me .They have a wide variety of services they offer and the color palette is also very wide and rich . Pleased with the results and the pricing . The service even though fast is not the friendliest , but that is alright with me as long as they are doing their work right . The only thing inconvenient is the extra charge on paying with card . I mean isn't the world becoming cashless ?The whole point of charging extra fees on card transaction is beyond me . read more

I've come here plenty of times over the year and I've always had a good experience except for this past weekend. I originally wasn't going to leave a review of my terrible experience until my nails started falling off. Not even a week in and I've already lost 2 nails. I wasn't doing anything extra for them to break off either, they just sort of fell. The lady that did my manicure was rushing and a bit aggressive. She even cut the cuticle on my nail when she was pushing it back because of how fast she was going. I still have dried blood there...I typically like quick service but not when it's painful. She also had to redo a couple of the nails during the mani because they kept coming off. After failing to re-glue them she just re-did the ones that were falling. The glueing process was clearly a mess since more have fallen off through the week. The worst part of the whole thing was her attitude. She was so rude I was sitting there feeling awkward. The pinky she did didn't match the shape of the other nails so I asked her to re-do it. She gave me a bunch of lip then continued working on the other nails so I had to ask her a 2nd time to fix it. Another I almost forgot was that she dropped the brush that she was using on the floor, picked it up, and continued to use it. Didn't even wipe it off let alone think about using another one. Overall it was a terrible experience and I doubt I'll ever come back here. I should've just bought press ons. read more

Just walked in off the street and had a lovely mani-pedi. Not too chemical-ish, not too rough, not too hot, not too expensive. I feel like Goldilocks - it was just right. Great foot massage was a bonus. Could have hung out here all day, the atmosphere was really calm and welcoming. Polish looks a little bit thin and streaky, but otherwise good. read more

Although there was attention to detail and the nails were nice, they ended up breaking off after only 1 week. My nails usually last up to a month. Not to mention the workers were lying down sleeping when I arrived. Most likely would not return nor recommend. read more

I came here for a gel mani and regular pedi, they were rough with my nails and I asked for cat eye, my nail lady messed up with one of my finger and she filed one layer off and then polished again and that one finger ended up thicker than all my other nails, and you can see where she messed up. But my nails looks decent overall. Sanitation wise it's not the cleanest, I can smell the acetone through my mask and there were flies in the entrance. read more

I have been a regular customer for gel manicures two years. They do a consistently EXCELLENT job. I use my hands a lot for work and despite that the gel has always remained intact and looking good for a long time. Plus they are so friendly and always welcoming. I've recently moved across country but will be home in Portland every few months. I'll be making it a point to schedule appointments while I'm there. read more

In town with my friend for a spartan race and needed to save our nails after they were covered in dirt and chipping. We called in and asked for Amy, who said she could take us immediately. Amy and her coworker were patient, efficient and extremely detailed when doing our nails. It took less than an hour to do a full set of extensions and gel polish, and they came out looking exactly as we wanted them. They were both so nice, and we are very grateful we found this shop - really topped off a great trip to Portland! read more

I have tried many nail salons in the area and Nu Nails is a hidden gem! I walked in on Monday morning to make an appointment for a new full set and pedi, they were able to take me right away. Amy did a fantastic job! I like acrylics to look very natural not like I have acrylic nails. Cam helped me to pick out a beautiful neutral color. Ivy did an excellent job on my pedicure. I love this salon! Not only is it within walking distance, but every time I've stopped in they're ready almost immediately for me. I'm definitely fond of the "Instagram nails" that have become super trendy, which include some tricky nail art. I've always been pleased with the results. Everyone is sweet and welcoming and the services are well priced! So far in my three years of salon trial and error, this one has been my favorite. read more

Very affordable. I went in to remove an acrylic set I got done at another salon, as well as get a gel mani. Super quick service, seated me right away. If it weren't the removal of acrylic, I probably would've been done in less than 30 minutes. Though my appointment still was pretty quick and I was out before my hour lunch was done. I had called ahead to ask for prices and I was given $15 for acrylic removal & $42-45 for gel mani. I was only charged for the mani, so with tip it was $50. Not bad considering other prices at surrounding salons. Will be coming back :) read more

Wanted some witchy stiletto nails for Halloween and I was not disappointed! I've had bad experiences at other salons in the past. Sometimes my acrylics would turn out lumpy or uneven. But not today! My nails are smooth beautiful (if you ignore my bitten cuticles). The nail tech did an awesome job shaping them and she was very gentle. I will certainly be back! read more

I visit Portland every summer for work, and was in search of a…read morelash technician while here, and came across Miss Knockout (after analyzing many Yelp reviews + noticing her experience with Asian eyes). I opted for a textured volume cat eye style, and Kimmie delivered - they initially looked amazing. Now, here is the explanation for why I have to ultimately dock two stars. While we're still ironing out lash retention issues (my right eye seems to be shedding more quickly than my left one - maybe the heat and humidity of Portland summers is the culprit?), Kimmie has been understanding and has scheduled me in for quick touch ups. I understand Kimmie has an extremely busy personal and professional life, but for me to have to take time off work to Uber to her salon is also frustrating for me as well. Even after my quick touch-up, I am still experiencing some lash shed, which should not occur so quickly. A fan even shed the same day of the touch-up which is frustrating. I've never really experienced this issue with any other lash tech, from LA to Portland. In fact, after my last touch-up just two days ago, I have already managed to collect at least eight (!) more fans that have shedded. However, I feel bad about constantly contacting the salon for the same issue. It's probably frustrating on both of our ends. I just want to note that I am a back sleeper and extremely careful about not getting my lashes wet, even when showering. So I know that my lash care is not the culprit - I suspect maybe my lashes have not been cleaned and prepped properly beforehand. After reading other reviews, it seems like there is one other general consensus - perhaps the lash glue MK uses is not of the best quality, as retention is dismal. Also, another small issue that rubbed me the wrong way is that when I called, the lady over the phone offered a 10% off promo for new customers, but when it came time to pay for my service, the 10% discount wasn't honored. I would've used that 10% discount as a cash tip towards Kimmie anyway, so I think ultimately it was a small gesture that she should have honored. Oh well. Regardless of not honoring the promo, I tipped anyway, at the end of the day. On a positive note, the MK space is very well-appointed and beautifully decorated, with snacks and drinks for waiting clients. I appreciated this little touch and level of customer service. And because Kimmie is a hardworking business owner, I hope for the sake of her business that it thrives!

I made an appointment with Kimmie to have a new full set of lashes (after a long hiatus I was ready to get them back!!!), and brow tint/trearment. Let me just tell you besides being absolutely lovely and fun to chat with, she is amazing at her craft! My lashes and brows look amazing, and I can't be more thrilled with the results. The decor is so elegant and pretty, you will feel amazing when you leave!

I've gone from a girl who only wore her hair in a ponytail or braids to keeping it unbound. I've gotten so many compliments and I just love the cut -- I can wear it straightened and curly and it looks just as good both ways. She responded very quickly to my message quickly when I expressed dissatisfaction with my hair afterward, and offered to redo the color but I'd rather wait for my hair to grow out as it's several inches too short and already has layers of color in it. I arrived at 11am for an appointment that my confirmation said would last until 1:30pm and we didn't finish until 4pm. She did my cut first and then did the baby lights- they added nice color and dimension to the hair as desired. But she then did my roots and combed the color through. While my color was processing, someone arrived for a haircut and had their haircut done while my color sat. Around 45 minutes later, my color was washed out and was darker than I expected- most of the baby lights were no longer visible. She mentioned the color will fade to be lighter as expected, but the result was surprising. I also asked for 2 inches or so to be cut, and mentioned I wanted to be able to put my hair in a ponytail still. When facing the mirror, the length was going great and she showed me it could still go in a ponytail. When turned around, I lost several inches for some reason and there was no going back. She took off even more in the back, and I left unable to put my hair in a ponytail. I'm not sure if there was a miscommunication and she thought I wanted the grow out to be able to be in a ponytail, but I don't think so since she initially showed me she could put it in a ponytail. By 4pm I was tired and hungry and ready to get home- she asked if I wanted to see the hair blown out and styled which I did but just wasn't up for given the 5 hours I'd been there so I said no. There was also another person waiting for their 4pm appointment to start. When I did straighten it at home, I was surprised by my hair. I've gotten cuts that suit curly hair on many occasions and have always been able to wear the cuts straight too. This cut when straight appears uneven and choppy. The transition to the short back is awkward. She'd mentioned that at the end she'd go through and do any evening, cutting of long pieces etc needed but by then, as I'd mentioned, someone had shown up for another appointment at 4 and no additional cutting was done. I'm not sure if it was an off day, if my hair just took a few hours longer than expected or if she typically stacks appointments but things seemed rushed between the clients. I've never had someone try to do a whole haircut while dye sits on and I felt like my dye was likely left on too long due to it which resulted in the darker hair and missing baby lights. I've included pictures of my hair before the appointment length wise, what I asked for, and what I got. Given the many positive reviews, I'd say this could be chalked up to an off experience but given the starkly different results I thought it was worth sharing.

I highly recommend getting your pedicures & manicures in this favorite neighborhood spot. (Location is kitty-corner cross the street from Ben & Jerry's, just a few doors north of Urban Outfitters @ 2340 NW Westover.) Walk down the short staircase from sidewalk and into a serene, relaxing environment. Classical music and soothing waterfall make the next hour of pampering a tranquil pleasure. Men can feel comfortable here getting their feet pampered too, as the salon is spacious, and comfortable. These are seriously nice people and - you know how sometimes you need to file an edge or smooth a corner when you get home? These are top notch nail treatments. AND they put a flower free on the thumb and big toe of little girls. Prices are totally reasonable, and they add it up in front of you. And they offer complimentary drinks. Coming here for a Bachelorette Party; it was our first stop! I've NEVER had my nails done so I was apprehensive at first. Within walking in the door my anxiety melted. I had such an amazing time! I'm a regular - go every 2-3 weeks depending on how the polish holds up....I'd say lately it's been pretty consistently 3 weeks - which is awesome and a testament to how good Nu Nails is.
