Found onyx salon on google maps while looking for nail salon close to my hotel. Onyx was just about a three minute walk away so it was the perfect option for a quick manicure while on vacation. I called and made a reservation the week before because I had a busy day planned. My mom later decided they wanted to join me, when she called they offered up another time, but after she mentioned I was getting mine done earlier they said she could come in too, and actually brought another person in to do her nails at the same time. The manicure was quick and they did a nice job. About a week and a half later and my nails are just starting to chip. There was nothing special and the manicure and the hand massage was minimal, but it was perfect for what I needed and my limited time. WORST NAIL SHOP DT Portland (Click the photo)! This is the type of salon where they tell you they can do anything then completely do their own thing & when you voice concerns tell you "it's okay". Where you can show multiple photos and in the end it's like a "what I asked for vs what I got" disaster. Also, a major concern was when the nail tech made my finger bleed and acknowledged it she continued doing my nails, touching my blood then touching her tools/drill & polish. I had to ask her for a bandaid. When I voiced my concerns with the shape I was told I could go back to where I came from. The tech then refused service to my mother who said nothing and was getting a pedicure by a totally different technician. To say the least horrible customer service, unsanitary, discriminatory and overall terrible service. read more

I have been going to Onyx for the last three years and won't go anywhere else in Portland! I stop in about once every month and always get great service. Whether I walk in or make an appointment, they are always prompt and I very rarely wait. They've got a great selection of colors for regular mani/pedi and especially gel colors...they're always getting new on trend colors. BB, Tina, and Vihn are the best of the best. I've had the pleasure of having BB and Vihn work with me but today Tina finished up my gel manicure and I am so happy with the results! She did such a great job and was very friendly. They were technically closed but I asked Viví if there was any possible way they could work on my hails because of said wedding. She said yes and was very careful and thoughtful. So so kind. I admit, I care more about how clean my nails look than I do about the massage element. I once received a gift certificate to Onyx. The actual card was small and nondescript, with only the name "Onyx," an address, and a dollar amount. So I get this gift...and I have no IDEA what the gift was for. Something called "Onyx" could be so many things! Was it a jewelry store or perhaps a cute little boutique? Was it a male strip club? Or a restaurant? Or a male strip club? (Just askin'...) Far to embarrassed to simply ask the giver "hey - what the heck IS Onyx?" I just decided to go for it - and one afternoon I timidly showed up at a small store front in an industrial section of the Pearl...dun dun dunnnnnnn.... I was immediately transported to Zen-topia. Onyx is not a spa as I initially thought from the decor, but actually a nail salon. They managed to move away from that sterile salon-feel, and create an environment of comfort and relaxation. They call themselves a "nail spa," which I found quite fitting. 2 hours later, my fingers and toes looked like they had been visited by the pretty pretty princess brigade. The $70 gift card covered both the spa mani and pedi, as well as a 20% tip. Not prices I was jumping up and down over, but again...Gift card. (Turns out, they picked the name Onyx because of the ancient Greek word Onux, meaning finger nail. Why they didn't just call it Onux, the world will never know.) read more

This place is very relaxing. I came here because my friend Karlos and Jade who are regulars come here frequently and have been telling me to come for the last few months. I finally came in with my coworker tonight after work. The staff was very friendly, Bibi and another guy gave me a beautiful pedicure. They have a great color selection. And this place has a great atmosphere. I work in NW and it was only a 5 min drive from my work. The staff stayed open past salon hours to accommodate my late night work schedule. This is my new fav nail salon. They do an excellent job on both manicures & pedicures; going above and beyond expectations. The ladies are very thorough with callus removal, cleanup up underneath the nail bed and removing cuticles. They make you feel relaxed and never rush you out in order to get a new client quickly in. I've never needed a reservation, just waked in and had a short wait in a massage chair whilst they were preparing for me. All of the ladies are super friendly and helpful with helping me put my shoes and jacket on whilst my nails were drying. The employee (I forgot his name, a young taller man) did a great job in my gel mani, and most importantly to me- did not try to force small talk on my like most salon employees seem to. The small negatives: sign said walk-ins welcome, but she curtly told me to come back in 2 hours to be fit in, which is fair since I didn't have an appt. I also asked for an eyebrow wax, and she confirmed a second time that I only wanted eyebrows. When I went upstairs, a different women did the waxing and didn't get the memo, and before I knew it she had wax on my lip (my eyes were closed, otherwise I would have stopped her). I let her finish it, since once the wax was on there there really wasn't another option. At the end, she offered not to charge me for the lip, which was the right thing to do and a resolution I was fine with. read more

This place used to be my favorite , however recently it's been pretty bad. I was there last month and the guy was in a rush he didn't even put lotion on my legs after the scrub. They all left us girls upstairs w no lotion and took off downstairs to help the other clients. It was so weird we just sat there and had to get out shoes on and go. We moved into the same building as this wonderful salon--& absolutely love that we can support our neighbor's business wholeheartedly. Both my dude & I have been athletes our whole lives + our business includes a LOT of time on our feet....our toes & heels have taken quite a beating over the years....but every time we leave here from a pedicure/scrub/massage, our feet look (& FEEL!) unbelievably good. The salon is spotless, all the techs pay meticulous attention to what works best for YOUR feet, not just the same ol'-same ol' for everyone, & it shows in their results. They've helped tremendously with the pressure points I get from long-term stiletto wear & they've relieved the pain in both of my dude's big toenails which had been crushed by dumbbells & helped them finally grow straight & flat for the first time in years. They were very busy but where able to see me and I'm glad I waited they gave me a heated neck bag to warm me up from the cold chill that day then some nice hot tea. Pros: quick application, relatively decent nail shape, clean work space. Cons: I got cut twice, my nails were very, very thin which looked nice for about two days before the corners started busting, the nail tech was not very personable so it was an awkward 45 minutes, he ran late 15 so I had to wait even though I had an appt. (I was almost late for work) The nail tech, Kevin, was talking on the phone the whole time and didn't even care to make conversation. Basically for 10 dollars less I could go somewhere else and get better service. This was no "spa" experience. The techs apathetic "I don't want to be here" attitude said it all. I wouldn't reccomend this fast food "nail spa" to anyone. Nail studio, in Lloyd Center, may not always be the quickest; the reason why I decided to try someplace new, but they do offer excellent friendly service at a decent price. read more

She rushes you through, constantly complains about other clients, and yesterday offered another client a glass of wine and didn't even offer me a glass of water....this is not the first time she's done this. I have been a loyal client, always tip over 20%, and have given her thousands of dollars worth of clothes over the years instead of giving them to Goodwill and getting a tax write off, but after multiple times of sitting there watching her give other clients glasses of wine without ever offering me the same, I am going back to Elegant Nails off of 23rd. Not overly priced, and the ambiance is clean. However, my service wasn't anything exceptional and my toes chipped upon leaving, and my fingernails were soon to follow. I understand taking walk-ins, but kicking me out of the chair isn't quite fair. As soon as I grabbed my purse to get out of the chair so another customer could use it, I smudged my index finger. If my nails are wet enough to smudge, I probably shouldn't be getting out of the chair. There were three of us, pre-wedding manis and pedis, but we had to ask to be seated next to each other and when we tried to move into the spa pedicure chairs, they told us it was too late. Price is good. Place is clean. Just a few logistics to work out. read more
