This place was nice, once upon a time.... now I've been ordering here for almost 20 years. And the last 5 times they messed up my order. Now I don't just spend 10 dollars. I'm spending 50. But this is last straw. I placed order, specifically telling the lady "NO TOMATO " 5 times I told her. She even repeated my order back to me. But when order was picked up, (now mind you I don't live close to this restaurant but it was my favorite) till now....I get home and my food is packed with tomatoes! And when I call to see if they can fix it. The lady was so rude soaking in Spanish saying derogatory things and then HANDS UP ON ME!!! tried calling back and no answer after 8 calls. I end up bringing food back to fix. And the owner was there. Usually he is kind and nice but not today. He was as rude as staff. He asked so what do you want. Money? I said no. Food!! Now bringing the food home. I ordered a torta dinner but I now ended up with a very very flat torta, rice and beans all over the place. I've been coming here since they opened. So instead the owner feels up on his female employees and cuddles them but with no reprimand. No longer will I come here and recommend Lalos from now on. Now that's authentic this place now sucks with rats running in back with the cooks assisting in preparation. Never again! NEVER NEVER AGAIN WILL I SPEND MY MONEY HERE EVER!!! The carne asada and al pastor tacos have been some of my favorite but the gorditas de chicharron take the prize for me! If Poncitlan is a city in the state of Jalisco, Mexico; then Nuevo Poncitlan is like the North Chicago to the actual city of Chicago. I was out with the girls and this was their spot for late-night Mexican delicacies. I can't believe they're eating this food on a semi-regular basis. Everything used to throw my steak burrito together did not seem fresh. I didn't like how there were large wedges of unripe tomato, squeezing their way out of the burrito every time I took a bite in the vicinity. My steak burrito also contained iceberg lettuce and cheese. The melted cheese seemed to coagulate within the rolled tortilla from being exposed to the cold vegetables. Together, lots of moisture was generated, adding to the grease from the steak. When my burrito was down to the last 5 bites, everything seemed to be swimming in a cheesy grease beef broth. I was unable to set the burrito down, much less stop it from falling apart. All of this was getting on my hands, making it impossible to grab a drink in between bites. At this point, the tortilla had also gotten soggy and there was barely any support holding the contents together. Call me picky, but I have the same kind of Mexican joint near me and it is the difference between night and day in terms of quality. They also have the same prices. Unlike my spot, this location serves complimentary nachos and salsa while you wait for your food to be served. I must say their salsas are rather tasty, but I don't think they are hot enough! The staff was not really conversational, but they were polite, efficient, and fast. The dining area looked clean. The kitchen did not. Perhaps the appliances were just old, making everything look dirty. I even saw one of the girls take a drink cup and scoop out water drainage from under the display refrigerator, the kind that has glass doors so you can see what kind of pop they are keeping cold. Time for a new fridge; or a repair man! Bring your friends here if they have been drinking and you need to feed them to shut them up. If they are drunk, they won't know the difference. Otherwise I found this to be a waste of a visit. I would most certainly tell you it's not worth cheating on your diet. read more

Visited this place yesterday around lunch time. I was very disappointed with almost everything. The carne en su jugo (steak and bean soup) was not up to par. It was missing an ingredient every carne en su jugo has, BACON! It also needed more flavor and adding salt, lemon, avocado, lime and cilantro barely helped. Just eh.. nothing special for being the HOUSE special.. We also ordered steak tacos that had no seasoning at all.. This is not the first time this has happened. The only good thing was the al pastor taco. They were sold out of pozole and barbacoa so IF I come back, that's something I will give a try. This visit would have been better had the steak and jugo would have just a little seasoning.. You can get a better carne at Los Corrales down the street or Los Gallos.. Carne en su jugo es meh. It's no Los Gallo's. Place is dingy and very small. Service is horrible. I went with party of five and they tax 15% gratuity for parties of five or more. The bill was 51 dollars and they charged me 10 dollars for gratuity. I think that's more like 20%. Not only that they taxed me on gratuity as well. I think I paid more in taxes and fees than i did for the food. This place is minutes away from my house. I was really hoping for good food because of all the other good reviews. Reality is its not all that. My daughter ended up throwing up her meal in there dirty bathroom. Horrible experience, it ruined my Sunday. read more

Everything I got from here was delicious! Their carne en su jugo was absolutely delicious and they have a perfect bean/meat ratio! The chile rellenos were large and filling. The al pastor was juicy and flavorful. The lengua was also cooked perfectly and not over salted. I am very happy with this small spot. They gave us lime and a generous slice of avocado on the side. This place has the best Salsa .....That is the only thing I go in for. They use fire roasted tomatoes, you could see the bits of fire roasted blended tomatoes in it, and it has diced onions in it that does not over power the salsa.. It is not a chunky salsa but it has texture to it. They also have chips to got with the salsa. It cost about three bucks for a lunch bag size of fresh made chips and about a small coffee cup size filled to the top with that tasty salsa. Once you try it you will always go back for more. I can't believe no one has reviewed this place yet. This place is one of the best for tacos, and its so cheap. Better than Los Comales any day of the week. The tacos are cooked up fast and are juicy and delicious. The salsa they have here is spicy, fresh and oh so good. Highly recommended. The prices have always been reasonable and the portions are always excellent ! The servers over the years have always been a great pleasure to meet . Always friendly and with a smile !
