I'd give the waffle cone a 5, but the ice cream a 3. I got the cookie dough and my boyfriend got the malted milk ball. In terms of ice cream quality, it had a nice texture (my cookie dough was evenly mixed) and it didn't melt immediately, which is always appreciated on a cone. The flavor, however, was just okay. I wouldn't go back for this flavor. My boyfriend didn't like like his at all, but he did branch out into something sweeter than what he normally likes. Labor Day and the owner was working alone- very busy with lots of kids there. He kept a huge smile the entire time, was very mellow and nice. That was enough to sell me right away. The ice cream was LEGIT. The flavors we tried between the two of us, not one was anything short of awesome. It's nice to see a cool little place like this on Colfax, in an area of town that is definitely changing for the better. The shop is really neat inside, very clean and I love the creative menu. It's ok if you need some ice cream in a hurry, but otherwise it is fairly bland. Considering the other ice cream places nearby, they have a long way to go to be close. We had 5 different flavors when we were there, and even though they were completely different, you could barely tell the difference. Not impressed. I understand a new business needs extra time to workout the kinks and get off the ground, but the product is really lacking and the pricing is confusing. A single, apparently is a double and a double is s triple? I've been here twice now, since its literally a block from my home and albeit being convenient, it's just not up to snuff. Some of the flavors leave you scratching your head, trying to figure out what ingredients might fit into the description of said flavor. The overall texture and taste was a little too soft and melty....like whip cream that lost it's fluff. Homemade waffle cones are great, when they can support the ice cream they're intended for. These ones were brittle and weak. I'm sure the owners have good intentions, but I'll gladly make the trek to Liks over coming to this place again in the future. read more

I've been here a few times and had similar experiences. The staff is slow!! They have typical flavors that rival most other popular ice cream stops, however, they are a little more expensive for their scoops and waffle cones. I was really turned off from this place last time I was there. I ordered a MALT and made it very clear that I wanted a malt, not a shake. The employee who helped me started making my order and chit-chatting with a fellow employee. They seemed to be in no rush to clear out the line of customers (maybe 5) and eventually finished my order. Turned out, they made me a shake!! The ice cream tastes good but it's pricey, and the reason I went with three stars: they need a new system for simultaneously serving people and ringing them up. Since Nuggs is in my neighborhood, I've had the pleasure of enjoying their tasty ice cream often. I first went right after they opened. To be honest, at that time they didn't wow me. I felt their ice cream was just ok and that it was pricey for the serving size. However, maybe they changed things. Since that first visit, I am amazed by their giant scoops and super creamy, flavorful ice cream. The ice cream is dense and smooth with just the right amount of sweetness. The traditional flavors are done really well (coffee, double stuffed Oreo, English vanilla) but we also loved the key lime pie and Milky Way. Three of us came here on a Sunday night and the scoopers were incredibly friendly and encouraged us to keep sampling. In the end, we couldn't each choose just one so we all went for the split scoop- two flavors in a (massive) single scoop. I think this place is over-hyped. It's mediocre at best. The ice cream is fine, nothing special though. I had an ice cream sandwich, and the cookies suck. They taste worse than store bought cookies. As somebody who considers herself an ice cream connoisseur, I have made it a priority to visit as many creameries around town as I can... I even work at one of them! I visited Nuggs for the first time tonight and I was pleasantly surprised! There was quite the line but everything was orderly and it seemed refreshingly calm, even with the mass of people. As soon as we were done browsing the comical display of flavors, we were greeted by a friendly employee who offered us a sample of his favorite, strawberry blonde, right off the batt! It was delicious, though the frozen strawberry chunks were not as pleasing as I would have liked them to be. After a few samples, I chose a single scoop split between two flavors, cookie dough and double stuffed Oreo. I usually enjoy the funky, eccentric options, but tonight I was drawn to the classics. We had 6 orders to go in our group all together... Which went over without any road bumps! All together, my ice cream was fabulous and I felt it was a good price for the healthy scoop I was served.
