The fried chicken sandwich with mango salsa

We popped in for a sandwich on the way home. The hubby had their grilled cheese with roast beef. He said it was good, but he would have preferred more cheese, less beef. I had their fried chicken special with mango salsa. It was very awkward to eat ( the salsa was in very large chunks), but wow, the flavours were really excellent.

BEST SPECIALTY SANDWICHES! About $15/sandwich This is my 3rd time here, so I had to write a review. We usually get whatever is featured on their menu sign, and today it was: Singaporean Style Crispy Chicken: Strong coconut flavour, with a refreshing cucumber slaw and chili sauce for the perfect punch. I loved the crunchy peanuts inside and big juicy piece of chicken. Very unique and lovely flavour combination. Grilled Cheese du Jour (their daily grilled cheese): today was pesto artichoke with Havarti and roma tomatoes. Perfectly pressed on the panini, every bite had a good portion and mix of cheese and artichoke. Just super gooey and delicious especially hot off the panini grill. The ginger ale was also super good, very ginger-y for sure (if you're into that) It does get super stuffy inside, there's a few bar seats by the window but the circulation is pretty bad with an open kitchen. We usually sit outside (there's 3-4 tables, with a large umbrella overtop). Great in the summers or if you're grabbing takeout. I'd recommend eating it right away though! Also, super super friendly staff, they give good recommendations, and are very nice. Pretty quick serving too. Nothing fancy, just a good solid little shop that does what they do very well. Highly recommend if you're in the area.

I've had the Rueben and the Spicy Lemon Rosemary Chicken, looking forward to their Breakfast Sandwich next. Staff are friendly and willing to answer questions, despite moving at a literally break neck speed to produce these handhelds. There has always been a line up but it moves fast. Its also heckin hot in there on warm days, so mill about outside whilst you wait for your order.

Here in Vancouver for a work trip, and stopped for a late lunch. Located at 1308 Burrard St in Davie Village, this is a small, fast-casual local gem. Sandwiches, salads, and pastry are house-made with a focus on nearby farms and suppliers. Specials are listed on a board outside the door, so take a look before you go in. We were too late for the (what sounded fantastic) grilled cheese daily special, but all other specials and daily soup were available. The friendly staff obliged and offered menu guidance. As we waited for our meal, passers-by waved through the window and another patron shared "current" favorite is the falafel sandwich or the grilled veggie sando. In previous years, the Rueben and lemon chicken. And taste a bit of history: the dough "culture", from which sandwich bread and calzone dough is made, has been nurtured and fed for over 10 years, and when you bite into that sandwich (or calzone), you can taste the love that has sustained this place for years. The lemon rosemary roasted chicken is a signature item, but with our excellent meal experience, I'd say get whatever sounds good. I asked some patrons - self-reported frequenters. Plan for takeout or come at an "off" time to enjoy the limited seating inside and a few sidewalk tables. We tried the corn chowder, lemon rosemary chicken salad, side of macaroni and cheese, and the meatball sandwich. All were terrific!

Today was my second visit here; the first being about three years ago. They have expanded their menu and you can go to their Instagram page to see a picture of their specials board every day. I didn't get the special, though it sounded amazing; I got the Reuben sandwich. The bread is made there and the food is incredible. Was there just before noon and there were quite a few people coming in for lunch. Still quick service though. i'm really glad these folks made it through the pandemic and look to be going strong.

The owner tells me they make their own bread, pickles, mustard basically everything from scratch! I came in here because it was the most Yelped place in Vancouver and wanted to try it out after walking by without knowing about it all these years. This is a cute little space with a counter and a few bistro tables outside. As most of the restaurant is the kitchen, that is what takes up most of the space. I came here for the Rueben and it was amazing.

After having heard from my boss that this small shop just front of Maxine's on Burrard makes the best sandwich, I didn't hesitate to try it today. There were three nice guys working and a guy asked what do I want. " I said what's the best seller here? He said the spicy lemon rosemary chicken. " And yes, it didn't disappointed me... I loved it and perhaps come again soon to try other stuff.

What makes a sub/sandwich perfect ? Based on my little foodie experience I believe the key to a great ( not just good) sandwich is the bread : it should not be a brioche bun neither a french baguette , it got to be a mix of both, something in between the two kinds. This little lovely shop got the perfect solution for such an equation : one of the best sandwich bread I have ever tried in Canada ! Also it goes without saying that the rest of the ingredients are amazingly fresh and tasty with a mix of flavorful sauces and melted cheese. I am now regretting only trying the beef dip ( Friday's special) as I should have got at least the chicken one as well. Oh yeah and they make their own pastries! i got the Cookie & Cream and obviously expected average experience from a pastry baked in a sandwich shop, but guess what : it was epic !! Probably better than most pastry shops around town!! Unfortunately since COVID they removed pizza option from menu to handle the costs! Forgot to mention that the owner ( who is also the sandwiche's chef) is a great welcoming man . Long story short this place is bomb! Definetely coming back

Over 80 reviews and 5 star rating? I had to check it out. And then I ended up going 3 times last week and twice this week. This is what I've tried so far (in the order from my most favourite to least favourite): - Spicy lemon rosemary chicken sandwich ($10.50): love the pickled jalapenos. - Reuben sandwich ($11): lots of meat piled high, comes with a super crunchy house-made pickle. - Roasted vegetable salad ($9.50): the olive tapenade spread is so good!! - Meatloaf sandwich ($11): meatloaf warmed up in a pan, otherwise nothing special in my opinion. Sauce is a bit salty. Large enough portion for me to split this into 2 meals. - Curry quinoa salad ($3): a nice snack, although I am not a fan of onions and peppers. - Fettuccine Alfredo with smoked meat (daily take-home feature) ($10): a pretty heavy meal, mostly consisted of pasta, not much smoked meat or tomatoes. On the plus side I had this for 3 separate meals. I now carry around their menu so that I can call ahead to place my order. Yes, I'm that addicted. It's also nice that they offer a stamp card - after your 10th stamp, your next sandwich is free. Most of their sandwiches can also be made into a salad, except for the reuben and meatloaf, which is a great alternative. But then I'd be missing out on the bread that's made fresh daily. I'd love to give them 5 stars but as I do think their food is a bit more on the pricey side, I'll have to settle for a 4. Service is always welcoming and friendly. I've noticed they know a lot of their regulars by name and order. Overall, I'd definitely recommend checking it out at least once. One day I'll try their daily feature sandwich!

A great spot, bar none. Fresh sandwiches with fantastic ingredients. There is a limited selection on deck, but what they do have is a special combination of flavours that make for some sumptuous meals. Top them off with some superior soda selections; they're here too. I've had the BLT and meatloaf sandwiches here. Both were great. They had flavours unlike each other and I'm sure the rest of the selection is the same. The bread is distinct and tastes like it was made the same day. This is certainly a component that sets this apart from other sandwich shops. Make sure you pay attention when ordering though, as these are not subtle flavours! The restaurant itself is small and has limited seating. However, this allows for some intimacy and coziness. Just don't bring the baseball team and things will be fine, although you certainly might want to if you want them to feel rewarded! read more

If you're going to be good at anything passion for what you are doing is the number one driver for anyone to have success abd be called a master. no matter what industry or service this must be Number 1 and Number E has just that. Number E does it right. I came in this morning for a breakfast sandwich as soon as they opened the doors at 10 a.m. There wasn't a breakfast sandwich on menu so the owner suggested to get a BLT and add an egg. Done! In between his sandwich making I asked him what the shops name meant.. He gavr me a very simple story "I knew this older man that ran a restaurant that I frequented and this man only had letters to order the food on his menu. English was not so good, the food was and yet he found a way to serve the people with the food he'd love to serve the people with that's what you get at Number E." Great sandwiches and great people that love what they're doing and they put their passion into the sandwich. We as patrons surely get rewarded here. He handed my sandwich and left me with these words, "it's going get messy. Let gravity do it's work." On to the sandwich: the bun is very soft, sprinkled with Himalayan rock salt. The vegetables were deliciously sauced up (I am not usually a fan of veggies) and are good. The egg fits perfectly in the sandwich bun and the rest of the ingredients is perfectly and meticulously layered in the sandwich. Lastly but one of the most important component the egg (add-on) which perfectly is cooked and just oozes once you bite into it. Amazing till the last bite read more

Pretty small and cosy space, with around 9 seats. Service was ok, nice and funny people. The food was great, nothing too extraordinary. Really nice place:) but I probably wouldn't go again cause it wasn't exactly my type as I like to dine in and unfortunately the place was small. read more

MUST EAT! We are visiting from Hawaii and ordered the meat lover's pizza and the Rueben. Everything made fresh and it was just delicious. The service was totally friendly and awesome even for a to-go order. But seriously, the pizza was one of the best I have ever had and this is cooking from someone who has eaten a lot of pizza. read more

This is a GREAT lunch place. Delicious salads, sandwiches, salads, and pizzas. The food is great. Some of it is pre-made so you can have it heated up. Plenty of street parking during weekday lunch. And the manager came out to check on our meal. Top of the line!!! read more

Best sandwiches in town. Home made with very healthy and organic ingredients. Glenn the owner is really a Chef and cooking everything himself. As a Frenchman, I am always difficult when it's about food but the place is definitively my favorite and value for money. American guests complaining about the prices of these sandwiches can cross the street over and eat their junk at Subway! read more

Awesome bread. Nice folks. Flavorful fillings. I had the meatloaf which was tender and juicy. The only thing I would say is it seemed a spice in either the sauce or meat was a bit much. Tasted like thyme of which I'm not a big fan and I think was just put on a little heavy handed. The pizza smelled wonderful. I will be back to try one soon. read more

* Silly * Seriously, a hashtag for the name of a restaurant? "#e" Really? Silly. Um, that ain't gonna work so well for online searching/website names/etc. Seriously. But I guess they figured that out already since their website spells out their name as "numefood." So you can get num with "efood" there, get "nu me" food, or just be confused. Kinda silly. They have a limited menu including open-faced Reuben, meatloaf sandwich, baked BLT, and roasted veggie salads. I ordered the Reuben. It was described as: Heritage Black Angus Smoked Beef, Sauerkraut, Truffle Mustard, and Swiss. It was prepared fresh and brought out on a tray covered by a thin paper, and served with eco-friendly disposable fork and knife. The bread had a good crust, and dense chew and was pleasantly toasted. The sauerkraut was a bit too wet though unfortunately and made the centre of the bread turn into mush. Kinda silly. The thin paper under the wet bread turned into a bit of a shredfest while cutting through the crust though - which got to be a bit silly. They need to serve a sandwich that needs cutting on plating that does not get shredded when cutting with the eco-friendly knive. Silly. I didn't detect any truffle in the mustard - but there were a lot of strong flavours, so that isn't all that surprising. The Swiss cheese was properly melted. The beef seemed like it could have been really good, but unfortunately when eating it was rather rubbery and chewy. I'm guessing the method of heating everything up didn't do justice to what was likely very good product before being prepared for serving. I had the impression that they may have pre-sliced and then heated it after being sliced which turned it rubbery. Really too bad as the spicing was pleasant. It would be nice if they were able to steam the meat and then fresh slice it right before serving. That may help. But it felt like kind of a silly exercise in attempting to make a gourmet sandwich but not quite getting there. I don't know what to comment on first. Everything from the sandwich to the cookies to the pizza was amazing. Everything was fresh and tasted like it was made from scratch. To top it all off the service there was top notch. If I lived here this would be my new go to spot. If I ever return to Vancouver this will be a must go to spot. I am usually a tough food critic and when I eat someplace i have much to say about the taste, value for money and more. All I can say about this place is a few words that i carefully chosen and they are : YUMMY! NOM and MUST!! this place had the best sandwiches in DOWNTOWN vancouver and I recommend anyone that is in the moon for a fast but well made with a lot of care and love sandwich, THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO !! When you pass by it looks like another small place between lots of others and yes its not a fancy shmancy downtown vancouver place but its a rare gem !! the owner is very nice and he will take care of your tastebuds for sure ! This is a very good place that you wouldn't suspect on the first look. The bread is home made, and as good as what you get in a french bakery. The recipes for the sandwiches are italian inspired and well balanced in taste and simplicity. Plus the americano coffee I got was actually delicious, and I usually don't like americanos... This place was recommended by the bike shop just steps away. The bike guy told us, "you won't forget the bread," as it's all homemade. We went to grab a quick bite before biking around town. Thoroughly impressed by the awesome amounts of flavor coming out of such a tiny little place. It was a place that you really wouldn't stumble upon since it sits in a sea of other small eateries, so I was glad someone told us to stop and take notice of #E. Great hearty sandwiches permeating flavor. Highly recommend getting whatever you order on the homemade tuscan bread. The black angus reuben left me beyond satisfied. Also, super friendly owner made this a great lunch. read more

well yesterday I stayed home sick, and cooking was the last thing I could imagine doing. lightbulb moment: nume e downstairs! Sweet! So I got the take away split pea soup. I had it for lunch yesterday and today and it is the JAM! A little bit spicy, a little bit smokey, but hearty and homey and fantastic. Plus when I was there the other two diners were clearly regulars and love the New Zealand duo as much as me. Such a great addition to the neighbourhood read more

Been to this place a couple of times because it's right under our building and very convenient. I believe the place opened up not too long ago. I ordered the chicken sandwich, which actually took a while to make but I'm not gonna complain about the time because when a sandwich takes 10 minutes to make and tastes that delicious, I could care less! They have a small menu and a variety of fresh juices in the fridge. I really enjoyed my experience at this sandwich shop and hope more people walk in and try it out. read more

I was just visiting Vancouver downtown and was craving a clean sandwich. This neighborhood has some great healthy options but I thought I'd give this place a try. I ordered the spicy lemon rosemary chicken sandwich. I have to say, that was one of the best and cleanest sandwiches I have ever eaten. The flavoring was excellent with a kick from their house-made pickled jalapenos. They serve fresh and healthy lean meat with no ill regrets afterwards. If only I had more time in Vancouver! I would definitely would have went back. I will say the place is small, the seating is limited and it is a bit crammed, but to go the food if it's too big of a deal. You will not be disappointed with this sandwich spot. read more

Had two sandwiches here on two different occasions: a daily special which I don't remember the name of, and a Dagwood. Both were incredibly flavourful, packed with ingredients I would've never thought to combine, and the owner makes them fresh before your eyes. He's a friendly guy, and quite clearly puts a lot of thought into his sandwich construction! Also had a latte here and it was pretty decent. read more

My brother suggested Number e food so we decided to have dinner there. The owner makes the sandwich bread in-house, which is rare. It took a solid 15 minutes to make our food but it all tasted amazing. If you want a great sandwich and are around Burrard bridge, this is the place to go to. read more

They make all their sandwiches as salads instead if you ask. I had a chicken ceaser salad and it was so fresh. Everything was done in front of me. Their to go cutlery and boxes are compostable. Only negatives this place is really small and quite expensive, example sandwiches are usually $16+ it's great quality food it's just quite pricy read more

If you want favors come here. We had the spicy rosemary chicken sandwich and the BLT. The spicy rosemary chicken had a jalapeño and avocado and a tangy dressing on the mix lettuce. The sandwich had spicy, tangy, bit savory all in one! The BLT was very tasty with perfect slices of ripe tomato and not the hardly ripened type that we all know about. The food is good! Bread is very good. Come here and hangout! read more

The sandwiches here are not cheap, and you don't have that many options to choose from, but they are so good I can't justify giving it anything lower than 5 stars. Maybe that's because I got the black angus one, so that's the one I recommend 100%. read more

A great spot for a quick lunch. All of their sandwiches are fantastic, and their soups hearty and filling. Though $9 for a meatloaf sandwich or $6 for a soup may seem spendy, the portions are huge--often enough for dinner, as well. Wow. This really is a 5 star sandwich place, I'm very upset I can only get this in Vancouver when I live in the US. I will be coming back just to experience this sandwich again. I always order the 3 pieces (1 wing, 1 drum & 1 thigh with fries or rice) for $9.39. You can ask for a mix of spicy or original but think the spicy is better and not too hot. I usually can't finish and take the rest home. Open 24 hours and considered the best deal in town for the portion of food you get. The decor is not fancy more like a hole-in-the-wall but that is what I love about it! They are here to impress you with the food and not the decor. The colourful orange and green bench seatings were originally from their shop on Main and 33rd so I love seeing them as it's reminded me of their good old days when you see motorcycles mixed with Mercedes cars in their parking lot.

The server apologized for the mistake, and I let it go, thinking we didn't have to drink it all. However, when the bill arrived, the price didn't match the quote. We were charged $25, not the $20 we were originally told when the 64-oz pitcher showed up, with the explanation that the regular price was $35 and that we had "saved" money. In the end, we were served twice the beer we wanted and paid twice what we intended, based on information that kept changing. Whether this was incompetence or intentional, it left me feeling frustrated and uncomfortable. The food and atmosphere really were great -- but the experience was overshadowed by feeling manipulated. Enjoy the food and beer, but pay close attention to what the wait staff tells you and what ends up on the bill.

It wasn't very warm, the lobster itself didn't have much flavor, tasted off and the whole sandwich was just kind of dry. Thank goodness I also ordered the prawn cocktail because it saved the meal. It wasn't anything fancy, but the prawns were a good size and gave me something I actually halfway enjoyed. Overall, I didn't have the experience I was looking forward to.

This little hole in the wall cafe is such a treasure to this city. I ordered the Black Angus Reuben sandwich and their roasted vegetable salad. Both were absolutely delicious. The bread is delectable and their house made pickles are addictive. One of the features that makes this place so unique is their pantry items so if you find the pickles here to be as incredible as I did, you can purchase a jar of them to take home! The sandwich itself is really well made. The bread is really soft and hardy so it will fill you up. It might get a little messy but it's totally worth it. The sandwich is extremely flavorful and the jalapeños add a subtle kick to the entire meal. Will totally be back in the future for a quick bite! read more

Have lunch there several times a week - all local stuff mostly organic.... It's great value for money, really don't understand why anyone would go to Subway, Tim Horton etc. if you have this around the corner.... Simply great food and the staff is fun!!! read more

The plate sizes were perfect for me. I ordered the carrot soup and a tuna fish in miso glaze. Both dishes were amazing. Nice environment and nice decorations. We made reservations for around 8pm with wasn't to bad of time. We also did valet parking. read more

Wow. Awesome sandwiches. All freshly made to order and fantastic. I have ordered the BLT and the Meat Loaf sandwich and both were top notch. Casual atmosphere and very friendly owners. Smoothies and take away dishes are also available. read more
