FANTASTIC halal for the area, but service always gives me a cold shoulder... I asked if I could swap all of my toppings on my salad for an extra sauce and for some reason they let me do it once and then never again. Food is good it's just a shame every single time I order from this place they mess up my order. Ordered it twice this week. One online-- ordered the number 1 that comes with red sauce and white sauce on top. I pressed "sauce ontop" when ordering it. Then I paid for an extra white sauce and wrote in the note-- this extra white sauce on the side. I received 0 sauce on top and 1 white sauce on side. Decided today to try ordering it in person instead, once again, and asked specifically for red and white sauce on top, extra white sauce on the side. Where's the sauce? Good gyro spot in Sea Cliff/Glen Cove. Craving a halal food truck style dish, I ordered lamb over yellow rice with some choped red onion and a little feta, mixed them in and add the tzaziki sauce. Some of the best falafel and rice bowls around. Fresh ingredients, nice staff, excellent sauces. You will be full off this stuff too. Big fan. It can take a few minutes to get your order, but each one is fresh in my experience so just know that going in. Falafel with various stuff and the Suge Knight sauce is my go to; I would suggest sauce on the side because they are, let's just generous, ample saucers. Chicken bits are good too. read more

Came here with my friends and we were able to dine in, but not sure how the dining in works nowadays. Regardless I felt like the food was okay, and it tasted similar to the NYC style halal carts but felt more expensive although the portion size was comparable. I ordered the street cart chicken with yellow rice, chopped pita and hummus with street cart white sauce and smoky bbq. I did enjoy the food, but it didn't really impress me more than I expected. Although I did pay more for the topping and sauce, the price was still more expensive regardless of the toppings/sauce I got. Would definitely try again and would recommend if you are looking for a NYC style halal food cart all the way in Glen Cove. read more

I've been to NYCR three times since its recent opening in October. Here's my assessment: The Good: Generous portions of tasty food. Lettuce, red onion, tomatoes, feta cheese and tzatziki sauce are always fresh and cold. The Bad: On 2 of the 3 occasions (as recently as yesterday) I was served my meal WITH cucumbers after specifically requesting NO cucumbers! There's an apparent lack of communication between the person taking the order and the person preparing the food! (Both times the restaurant wasn't busy so I can't attribute the clerk getting my order wrong to them being busy.) I have a mild allergy to cucumbers and being served cucumbers is a problem that's important for me to avoid. The Ugly: On 2 of the 3 occasions (as recently as yesterday) I was charged an amount that exceeded the price on the menu. The printed menu features 61 selections (i.e., over rice, over lettuce, over fries, or in a pita pocket) and on both occasions I ordered a specific number on the menu and was charged an amount that exceeded the stated price on the menu. Yesterday I was charged an additional 85 cents for feta cheese when clearly the menu describes my selection as including feta cheese. When I brought this to the attention of the cashier she offered to refund me the 85 cents (the right thing to do) but I declined. To me, it's not about the 85 cents but the fact that customers are being charged higher amounts than prices on the menu. This is not only wrong but it's illegal (as a deceptive trade practice under the Nassau County Administrative Code, XXI Title D, et seq. Consumer Affairs). I would consider upgrading my review only after these issues are properly addressed. read more

Really wanted to like this place however I was quite disappointed with the food. I expected the food to be akin to that of the NYC chicken and rice carts however this was not the case. Food is incredibly bland and "alright" at best. The white sauce is essentially watered down yogurt. I tried both the "Street Style Chicken" (alright) as well as the lemon pepper chicken (which I do not recommend getting). Also, toppings are sparse and clumsily thrown on; I asked for cucumbers and red onions and was given only a handful of each. For the hummus, I paid an additional amount for I was given a mere tablespoon. Additionally, the chicken was suspect too. It did not seem fresh or of high quality. The redeeming quality of the restaurant was the geniality of the owner/front of house and its level of cleanliness. At one point he had even gotten on the food line and started to work alongside the cooks. The owner(?) also thanked customers by their name and seemed like he wanted to be there. I hope that NYCR can improve on its food. Until then I cannot recommend it. read more

As a person who frequents multiple halal carts this place highly recommended (by someone who heard of a "halal cart type of place that just opened")  The atmosphere of the place was good. People were super nice. I got chicken over yellow rice with white sauce.. Classic combinations for a halal cart.  The rice does not taste like traditional halal rice. Halal rice usually has coriander.  The chicken was had a slightly slimey taste to it. Maybe because the amount of oil I saw them throw on the grill. The white sauce did not taste anything like it should taste - actually tasted soapy. The only thing edible in the dish was the chopped pita. read more

I came across this place about 6 months ago because I wanted to try something new and I am happy I decided to try this place. They food is delicious and that fact that they have several sauce options is awesome. I typically get ranch, buffalo sauce or the spicy mayo and each one scores a 10/10 for me. While the inside of the place is small it's kept cleaned and I like how there is a designated area for pickups. The food is made quickly and is always delicious! read more

Been here 3 times since it opened. Always good quality. As for the negative reviews of this place. They all seem to state that it is "bland" and/or "not authentic". I frequently eat Halal food from Rafiquis food truck in NYC and sometimes go to Hicksville for Authentic Halal food. And yes this place is different. The difference is that my family will not eat "authentic" Halal. They have tried and just don't like the flavor. But my family will eat at NY Chicken and Rice. The food here is of good quality and you can customize it to your taste and make it as healthy or unhealthy as you like. Anyone who feels it is "bland" should try one of the various sauces to adjust it to their particular taste. I particularly like the Shugh Knight sauce. Oh and the prices are very good. While it is halal style, did you people really expect it to be exactly like the street carts in NYC where they're turning out plates all day and night??! I think this place is a great, different new addition to glen cove. It's the only place around here of it's kind! It is NOT terrible!! The food was fresh and hot and there were 1000 different food options and combos at what I think are reasonable prices. I've only been there once. I would for sure go again! Was it the best I've ever had? No. But it certainly wasn't the worst. I would think as suggestions come in, the food will only get better. I'm glad I tried it and I actually enjoyed my lunch.
